From the painted scenery to the stitches on a dress, our artists and technicians have considered every detail in service of telling this story – for you.

Theatre is a collective experience, and our process isn’t complete until you take your seat. As the play begins, remember that the performance you’re about to see is a one-of-a-kind experience, and no matter how much we rehearse, the performance will never be exactly the same as the one you’ll see today. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am honored to welcome you to our 28th season. And what a wonderful season it is—with something for everyone.

Florida Rep is an integral part of downtown Fort Myers, producing live professional theatre to diverse patrons from all over Southwest Florida. This year you will recognize many of our actors and directors from previous shows.

We also have a very active educational program, consisting of summer camps, our Theater for Young Audiences, which brings the arts to life for thousands of Lee County students each year, and a Conservatory program for more advanced students.

Every May, our PlayLab Festival invites playwrights from all over the country to submit their new offerings to be presented as developmental readings. A few of these plays have had their world premieres right here on our stages.

We want to thank you all for your generous and continuing support. The past few years have challenged us with the pandemic as well as the devastation of Hurricanes Ian, Milton and Helene. In these challenging financial times, organized financial support has been difficult. Tickets sales alone cannot sustain us. So please consider donating today if you are able. Dear Florida Repertory Theatre Patrons,

It’s a true pleasure to welcome you to another season of theatre here in our city. There’s something special about gathering for live theatre. It’s a chance to step away from the everyday, and experience something real — together. That’s what makes nights like this so important.

Here in the City of Palms, we believe in the power of community. Our local arts scene does more than bring joy — it strengthens our economy, connects our community, and keeps our shared stories alive. Theatre reflects who we are and what we value. Every performance represents countless hours of dedication, creativity, and collaboration — not only on stage, but behind the scenes and throughout our neighborhoods.

Last year, I was thrilled to trod the boards as dead Uncle Tony, in Florida Rep’s Lucky Stiff! It turns out the view from the stage is hilariously different! It gave me a whole new appreciation for the talent and team work behind every performance. In fact, it was so fun, I took a final bow on closing night!

When we support the arts, we’re also supporting local businesses, jobs, education, and civic pride. Your support makes this all possible. AND ONE FINAL LESSON

Tuesdays with Morrie began as Mitch Albom’s intimate memoir and quickly became a cultural phenomenon. His account of reconnecting with his former Brandeis sociology professor, Morrie Schwartz—as he faced ALS—spent more than 200 weeks on The New York Times nonfiction best-seller list and touched millions of readers worldwide.

The story moved from page to screen in 1999, with Hank Azaria as Mitch and Jack Lemmon in one of his final, most celebrated performances. The film earned multiple Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Made for Television Movie and Outstanding Lead Actor for Lemmon’s unforgettable portrayal of Morrie.

In 2002, playwright Jeffrey Hatcher, working with Albom, adapted the memoir into a stage play that premiered Off-Broadway. Audiences embraced its blend of humor, honesty, and humanity. The New York Daily News praised it as “a touching, life-affirming, deeply emotional drama with a generous sense of humor,” and it later earned the Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best Revival.

Today, the play remains a favorite among regional theatres, thanks to its universal themes of mentorship, loss, and living with purpose. Florida Rep is honored to share this timeless story—one that promises to warm hearts and linger long after the final curtain.

THE MUSICAL THAT JUST WON’T STOP GROWING

LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS is on stage MAR 17-APR 12, 2026

The cult favorite Little Shop of Horrors is best known today as the 1986 musical-comedy film featuring a starry cast—Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, Steve Martin (in his iconic turn as a deranged dentist), John Candy, Jim Belushi, and Christopher Guest. But its roots go all the way back to Roger Corman’s 1960 B-movie, shot in less than five days on a shoestring budget. From that scrappy beginning, the story has bloomed into one of the most beloved musical comedies of all time.

The film earned two Academy Award nominations, including Best Original Song, along with Golden Globe and BAFTA nods. But before Hollywood embraced it, Little Shop had already become a New York sensation. The 1982 stage musical by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken—the team later behind Disney’s The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast became one of the longest-running Off-Broadway hits in history. A 2003 Broadway revival followed, with notable casts over the years including Jonathan Groff, Tammy Blanchard, and Joy Woods. The show was revived Off-Broadway in 2019 and continues to play currently.

The show’s irresistible score—Motown-, doo-wop-, and rock-infused—pairs perfectly with its oversized star: Audrey II, the man-eating plant puppet that steals every scene. A trio of ‘60s-inspired street-corner divas—Chiffon, Crystal, and Ronnette—serves as the show’s soulful narrators.

Florida Rep is thrilled to bring this wildly entertaining musical to the Historic Arcade Stage—an irresistible, laugh-filled escape where the only thing growing faster than the chaos is the fun.

THE BRIDE: OR DOES THIS DRESS MAKE ME LOOK MARRIED? is on stage APR 7-MAY 10, 2026

Florida Rep audiences know Denise Fennell as “Sister,” the delightfully curmudgeonly nun from the hit one-woman, audience-interactive show Late Night Catechism, which has charmed Southwest Florida theatergoers for over two seasons. Now, we’re thrilled to welcome Denise back for a brand-new interactive comedy, The Bride: Or Does This Dress Make Me Look Married?

In this laugh-out-loud, semi-autobiographical show—co-written by Denise—she steps into the shoes of a bride “of a certain age,” confronting the hilarious and heartfelt questions that arise on the eve of her wedding. From love and commitment to marriage rituals, Denise engages the audience with her interactive signature style, blending outrageous stories, sharp observations, and candid moments from the heart.

Critics have called The Bride “joyous, bold, and unforgettable,” and audiences consistently fall for Denise’s self-deprecating humor, honesty, and quick wit. Whether you’ve laughed

Arts

Florida Repertory Theatre’s Performance Accessibility Assistance Program (PAAP) provides both audio-described and signed performances throughout the season. Working with the Sally J. Pimentel Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center and the Southwest Florida Council of the Blind, this program offers $25 tickets for patrons with vision loss and patrons in the deaf community. All performances are 2 PM Sunday Matinees. All tickets are subject to availability, and it is highly recommended to reserve in advance (limit 2 tickets per production).

ABOUT THE WRITERS

MITCH ALBOM is an author, screenwriter, philanthropist, journalist, broadcaster and inspiration around the world. Albom is the author of numerous books of fiction and nonfiction, which have collectively sold more than forty million copies in forty-eight languages worldwide. He has written eight number-one New York Times bestsellers — including Tuesdays with Morrie, the bestselling memoir of all time, which topped the list for four straight years and celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2022. He has also written award-winning TV films, stage plays, screenplays, a nationally syndicated newspaper column, and a musical. He appeared for more than 20 years on ESPN and was a fixture on The Sports Reporters. Through his work at the Detroit Free Press, he was inducted into both the National Sports Media Association and Michigan Sports halls of fame and was the recipient of the Red Smith Award for lifetime achievement. Besides Florida Rep, some of her favorite theaters include New York’s John Houseman Theater and Ensemble Studio Theater, Pittsburgh Public Theatre, PlayMakers Repertory Company, and Pennsylvania Stage Company. Maureen also served as Artistic Director for George Street Playhouse in New Jersey, and as Acting Artistic Director at Delaware Theater Company. Maureen has been recognized as a leader in arts education throughout the country and as an innovator in arts programming for special populations. She was the founding Artistic Director of the Unlimited Potential Theater Company of Very Special Arts in New Jersey. She also inaugurated the Drama Therapy Program for the Center for Cognitive Rehabilitation at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Maureen is a member of the faculty of the School of Arts and Communication at The College of New Jersey where she teaches Integrated Visual and Performing Arts. Maureen is a proud member of both the Actors Equity Association and the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society. A thank you for all the great teachers in my life.

CODY KLIMEKˆ(u/s Mitch) is an acting intern for the ‘25 -’26 season and recently appeared in Florida Repertory Theatre’s professional production of The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge. As a recent graduate from Florida Gulf Coast University’s theatre program, you may have seen him in The Life of Galileo, Letters to Sala, or Radium Girls. Cody is excited to continue his work in professional theatre. And he would also like to thank his friends and family for continuing to be his biggest supporters.

SARAH COLATRIANO (Assistant Stage Manager) is from the Washington DC area and is a recent graduate of the College of William & Mary, where she double majored in Theatre and Computer Science. CHARLES CLARK (Scenic Designer) is a seasoned designer with over 20 years of experience in the industry. Known for his innovative approach and keen eye for detail, Charles has worked on a diverse range of projects, from theatrical productions and concerts to architectural lighting and special events design. His work is characterized by a unique blend of creativity and technical expertise, ensuring that each project not only meets but exceeds design expectations. Charles is passionate about transforming spaces that create new worlds for unforgettable experiences. He joined Florida Rep in its 25th season and currently serves as the Director of Production. JANINE WOCHNA * † (Stage Manager) is an ensemble member having most previously stage-managed The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge, Venus in Fur, Boca, Oleanna, A Comedy of Tenors, A Sherlock Carol, Beguiled Again, Lobby Hero, The Importance of Being Earnest, And Then There Were None, Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder, and many others since 2005. Regional theatre credits include Fox on the Fairway at Riverside Theatre, The Man of La Mancha and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf at Triad Stage, four seasons as Resident Stage Manager at the Geva Theatre, and 14 seasons at the Cleveland Play House. She is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association.

What is ALS?

ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. “Amyotrophic” comes from the Greek language. “A” means no. “Myo” refers to muscle. “Trophic” means nourishment. So, amyotrophic means “no muscle nourishment,” and when a muscle has no nourishment, it “atrophies” or wastes away. “Lateral” identifies the areas in a person’s spinal cord where portions of the nerve cells that signal and control the muscles are located. As this area degenerates, it leads to scarring or hardening (“sclerosis”) in the region. In summary, ALS robs people of the ability to walk, talk and eventually, breathe. Approximately 30,000 Americans are currently affected by ALS, with around 5,000 new cases diagnoses annually.

The annual festival features five new plays—a curated mix of works by both emerging talents and established playwrights—that reflect Florida Rep’s mission to produce a wide variety of compelling, thought-provoking theatre.

Over four days, these plays are presented in staged readings, followed by talkbacks and audience conversations that help shape the work’s future. PlayLab also features a panel with all the playwrights, where audience members get to learn more about their process and their work, and sometimes a keynote address.
