LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Alas, summer is here and that means so many things to so many people! In the Florida Powerboat Club family, it generally means that about seventy percent of our members have retreated from their Florida winter hideaways or put their commuting schedules on hold, moving their families and prized possessions (boat or yacht or both) back home for the summer months! And for those who live in Florida or southern states, it’s time to get the hell out of town and go anywhere else! But heading east, rather than North, is not such a bad idea for boating enthusiasts! The strange irony is that when the summer hurricane season begins in Florida, bad stuff can happen fast, but that is precisely the BEST TIME of the year to be venturing out to the Bahamas or taking coastal excursions along the shores of the Atlantic.

To explain this trend, the warmer air and surf temperatures, combined with the lighter tropical winds which typically prevail from the south, are the very weather conditions that calm down the Atlantic Ocean and the gulf stream, taming the seas and making offshore excursions more manageable. This certainly explains why FPC shifts the boating agenda with a strong focus on Bahamas events. For the summer of 2026, we are pleased to be launching our 35th Annual Bahamas Poker Run, and to punctuate this accomplishment, FPC has offered this event every year (minus Covid) with no cancellations since May of 1992! Every year this event draws approximately twenty

boat entries from around the nation, which may seem like a small number, but the coordination of such an adventure can be immense, and this number of boats continues to be an ideal, manageable number for organizers and marina partners.

What is unique about our 2026 Bahamas Poker Run, is that this is the first time this particular event has been presented by a boat manufacturer and FPC thanks Deep Impact Custom Boats! Company owner Mark Fischer provided an attractive incentive, by offering to pay entry fees for any FPC member owning a Deep Impact! This may be the first time any such promotion has been offered by one of our sponsors- and the results were positive indeed, producing the largest number of Deep Impacts on any FPC Bahamas run! The second interesting addition to this run is a routing change from Bimini to Nassau, which historically has made Chub Cay the go-to lunch and fuel stopover. With Chub Cay now closed to the boating public, FPC pulled a rabbit out of the hat, with a new North Andros stopover named Morgans Bluff. While this outpost is less developed, it offers a protected harbor, fuel dock, pristine beachfront anchorage spot, a lunch concession for the group and a safer navigation route that skirts the harsh seas in the tongue of the ocean! After a recent recon visit by the Jones family on the King of Clubs, this venue is shaping up nicely!

Moving on and taking summer weather statistics one step further, your adventurous FPC prez decided to revisit the club’s colorful past, by getting back to Northeast Florida’s coastal waters. It was 1996 when the first north Florida event was staged in Jacksonville on the St. Johns River, and for about a decade, many events followed that visited St. Augustine, Daytona Beach, and as far north as Savannah and Hilton Head SC. Several factors like hurricane damage influenced the landscape of the area’s boating events, and FPC moved along to other adventures throughout the Sunshine State. Now, for the first time in over two decades, FPC is taking advantage of the summer weather patterns by launching the St. Augustine Summer Rendezvous, officially kicking of the summer boating season July 23-26! So many things have come together to make this an exciting adventure on the horizon, with the historic Casa Monica Resort & Spa as headquarter hotel, a 100-plus year old historic building that was built by legendary oil tycoon and creator of the Florida East Coast Railway, Henry Flagler, one of America’s great “affluences” who played a role in creating Florida as a destination for the wealthy in the Gilded Age of the late 1800’s and into the early 20th century. With great marine facilities for launching and a newly renovated St. Augustine Municipal Marina, the ideal event partners are in place to host an amazing experience! Once again, the odds for fair weather and following seas are in our favor, as the June climate offers the best conditions for “loop runs” which begin with a coastal inlet-to-inlet cruise, followed by scenic intracoastal water exploration! Participants will cruise

over 200 miles of coastal waterways by day, and enjoy the old charm of historic St. Augustine by night. It doesn’t get much better than that, and FPC desperately seeks another few members to register, so we can have a great outcome! Augustine by night.

Moving on to other summer business, let’s not forget that FPC is once again proudly staging the 2nd Annual NorTech Owners Bahamas Run, with a fantastic agenda that is a rinse-and-repeat of last year’s August extravaganza! Registration is steady and there is still room for about ten boats at the time of this writing, so we invite all NorTech owners to get on board. The final chapter for the summer Bahamas will be a late-August exclusive 15boat Northern Bahamas Island Hop to explore the islands from Grand Bahama to the Abacos. One of the big highlights of this run is that the majority of the cruising is done throughout the scenic protected waters, better known as the Sea of Abaco. Geographically, this body of water is protected on the south side by Grand Bahama and Great Abaco, and to the north by a chain of barrier islands, providing calm water that will make the bow “queen seat” in every center console the most popular seat in the house. Unless of course, you’re the captain, and we know where you’d prefer to be. For all of us who are passionate about the powerboating lifestyle, let’s just agree that the helm is our Happy Place!

MIAMI BOAT SHOW BASH 2026

With NOR-TECH Hi-Performance Boats returning as presenting sponsor for the third year in a row, FPC’s Stu Jones and Speedonthewater owner Matt Trulio collaborated to promote one of the longest running MIAMI Boat Show visitor parties, the annual Miami Boat Bash. Staged for its first time in 1993 at a swanky Washington Avenue bar called Mickey Rourke’s Knockout Saloon, this celebration of the powerboating lifestyle has continued for over three decades at various Miami party venues along the way. Staying with the tradition of offering tropical escapes to the Florida Keys in the mid-winter months, FPC returned to Hawks Cay Resort in Duck Key just days after the completion of the February Miami Boat Show, giving over two hundred adventurous boaters a warm weekend of powerboating in paradise!

Other than an event name change, the annual Hawks Cay Rendezvous ran like clockwork as it always has for over thirty years. The four-day format offered beautiful Florida Keys weather in Mid-February, when the rest of the country is digging themselves out of a snow bank every morning! Commencing activities at Grove Harbour Marina in Coconut Grove, the 30-boat fleet represented a wide variety of manufacturers with the usual brands including Deep Impact, Midnight Express, MTI and Nor-Tech representing two thirds of the entire group. The Thursday morning start kicked off as scheduled, with teams lining up for the safety checkpoint handoff, a practice which rewards teams with a bonus card for displaying their crew wearing PFD's at the start of the run.

Unlike many FPC events which commence Friday morning, the Thursday start provides attendees with four big days of boating fun in the Florida Keys, a customary practice for this annual event for many years. As far as any participant or

bystander could observe, the event name change from Miami Boat Show Poker Run to Hawks Cay Rendezvous was a subtle change, since the new event format followed similar protocols from the outside looking in. At the dockside captains meeting before departure, FPC president Stu Jones reminded drivers that they accept full responsibility for safe operation practices on the water, citing the USCG Rules of Road as the guidelines that govern all boating activities at all times, regardless of whether they are participating on a group run or on their own.

Lunch at Gilberts went off without a hitch, and by late afternoon the fleet was settled in at Hawks Cay Marina in Duck Key, located in the middle Keys just six miles north of Marathon. With no structured activities for the first evening, guests were free to roam about the expansive resort, and many explored off property to Marathon, where a host of fine dining establishments beckoned!

Friday provided a flexible cruising agenda, as some boaters heading northbound to Islamorada, discovering Three Waters Resort for lunch and fuel, and many later gathered at the nearby oceanside sandbar, a popular rendezvous point for many local and visiting boaters every weekend.

Several other teams stayed in nearby waters, cruising through scenic Boot Key canals and the bay side of Marathon, visiting Island Fish Company and Faro Blanco Resort for casual lunch destinations!

Saturday provided another open format day, as some teams chose to head southbound to Key West for lunch ( sixty miles each way) while others further explored the local waters from Marathon to Islamorada. At least eight teams gathered at Papa Joe's waterfront in Islamorada for lunch, and later joined

the fun at the oceanside sandbar, where hundreds of boats had congregated to enjoy the warm, sunny day February day.  The only thing that could top three perfect days of boating was getting a beautiful fourth day Sunday for the trip back from the Florida Keys to Miami and Mother nature delivered a perfect score! With staggered departures beginning as early as 730 am, all thirty teams vacated Hawks Cay Marina by late morning, with many participants claiming that the conditions for the ride back were about the nicest waters they had ever experienced in recent years! Sometimes, you just have to roll the dice and hope for the best when it comes to Florida boating, and with a perfect scorecard from Mother Nature,  the FPC Hawks Cay Rendezvous dealt a perfect winning hand to every team!

Friday Night Gamblers Party: Hawks Cay Resort

Friday evening brought the teams together for the FPC hosted Gamblers Night Party, which opened with a cocktail hour sponsored by Deep Impact Custom Boats, and later flowed into a large ballroom with a lavish dinner buffet! In addition to sponsor presentations and President Choice awards, attendees enjoyed the Gamblers Night format, which encouraged teams to play out poker cards and seek the highest hands, in an effort to be seated at a 10-seat final table for sudden death game of five-card stud. The simple format does not require any players to have common knowledge of poker playing strategy, as it is essentially the luck-of-the-draw which determines the winners. This format engages more teams in the final round, making it more fun for so many more participants. The top three teams shared a $6,000 purse along with donated prizes from Sunchill floats and EZ Fenders. Congratulations to all the winners and special thanks to all of our sponsors for making this event a great success!

Discovering the.... PARADISE COAST

From pristine beaches to the palm tree lined streets of downtown, Naples has truly earned its name as the Paradise Coast and FPC members experienced this first-hand by attending the 2nd Annual Naples Rendezvous in March.

With FPC’s ongoing mission to offer a wide range of event formats in as many Florida boating communities as possible, Naples was added to the event calendar in 2025 and after a great outcome, FPC returned for the 2nd Annal Naples Spring Rendezvous. While the only subtle change was the event title, as FPC places more emphasis on hospitality and venue management, the overall structure of the event took on the same 3-day format, with most teams arriving Thursday at the Hyatt House Naples, a modern resort in the heart of downtown Naples offering quality accommodation and a modern, floating dock marina.

Arriving on Thursday was ideal since the itinerary kicked off with a Friday run for lunch in the Fort Myers Beach area, and the FPC members enjoyed being the first boating club to fill up the docks at the all-new BIMINI BASIN Seafood & Cocktails, a boater-friendly restaurant in Cape Coral. This also provided an ideal rendezvous point for a number

of teams that were coming in from coastal ports including Sarasota, Bradenton, and Venice. Gulf coast sea conditions were ideal as the teams joined in for the southbound run back to Naples, using the Gordon Pass to access the scenic Naples waterfront that includes multi-million-dollar mansions and abundant waterfront entertainment options. The old days of the “sleepy Naples” stigma are long over, as a younger, energetic, and fun-loving vibe appears to preside throughout the area!

With about twenty teams in attendance, boat-count had gone down somewhat from the previous year, but this only improved the coordination of event logistics, getting the group underway on schedule for the Saturday run, which included a bonus card handoff from the 42’ Pardo cruiser, “She’s The One”, owned by longtime FPC alumni, Michael & Lori Smith. From there, and with FPC chopper in pursuit, the course headed southbound, passing Marco Island, Goodland and

beyond, then turned eastbound after clearing the sandy shoals of Cape Romano. Destination: Everglades City, in the heart of the 10,000 Islands!

After clearing the Indian Key pass which funnels into a winding mangrove waterway towards Everglades City, there are few places in Florida that would rival the scenic extravaganza that unfolds in these final minutes of the cruise to Everglades City. The breathtaking scenery changes to a village lost in time, as the boats idle through this historic town that made headlines during the seventies and eighties war on drugs, with historic DEA busts that were known to empty the town’s population overnight!

After docking at their spacious marina with the assistance of community volunteers, Everglades Isle RV Resort hosted an amazing BBQ lunch buffet, which allowed guests to dine outside in the pleasant spring conditions, or visit the charming members lounge that is themed with many Floridian

sportsman artwork and artifacts. The only thing missing was time, as most guests admitted they would have loved taking a ninety-minute airboat tour through the intricate network of mangrove swamps and canals that once-harbored an untouchable band of midnight smugglers.

Heading back to Naples from the lunch stop provided a variety of course options, with a few teams favoring the longer but more scenic intracoastal route from Marco Island, while others braved the sporty conditions that swirled up as the winds shifted from the north. Nonetheless, everyone returned to Naples safely and gathered later for a fun celebration with family, friends, and fellow boaters at the Hyatt House Naples party room.

A recent addition to FPC parties is the Gamblers Night theme, which was introduced at the Hawks Cay Rendezvous and returned by popular demand for the Naples event. Rather than select the three top hands from the player board for prizes, the top TEN ranking players gather together for a final round of Five-card stud, engaging the teams and creating a high level of fun as the players battle it out for the win!

With humble beginnings in 2011, the Tampa Bay Poker Run got its early start at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort & Marina in St.Perersburg. As the event roster slowly outgrew the Vinoy facilities, FPC eventually moved the event headquarters to downtown Tampa, and now celebrates sixteen years of Powerboating in Paradise at a destination commonly referred to as "America's Next Great City"!

Having a big-city backdrop as event headquarters for a Florida Powerboat Club event is somewhat uncommon when looking back at the club’s three-decade event archives. While Bahamas runs only commence in bustling Fort Lauderdale, the self-proclaimed Yachting Capital of the World, and Florida Keys events stage out of the Magic City of Miami, the undisputed Powerboating Capital of the world, neither of these waterborne cities is considered to be the official host or headquarters for these events. Instead, participants head off to rustic islands in the Keys and Bahamas, in search of their “powerboating in paradise” experience. By sharp contrast, with the Tampa Convention Center acting as docking headquarters and the two host hotels just steps away, the Tampa Bay Poker Run enjoys up to four continuous days of metropolitan flavor, with a landscape of giant office towers, luxurious condominiums, big-chain hotels, countless restaurants, entertainment complexes and people, thousands of people, coming and going in every direction!

With only minor changes to the weekend structure, the standard

practice is for out-of-town participants to arrive by Thursday, giving them time to launch their boats at the nearby Davis Island boat ramp, and get fueled and ready for two full days of adventure. FPC organizers typically use the late afternoon and early evening for participant check-in to help expedite the 45-team rush, and for this edition, a Friday morning captains meeting brought the majority of the drivers together to review the safety guidelines and weekend agenda. Shortly before noon, the fleet was underway for the lunch run to Sunset Grille at Little Harbor, a charming waterfront community in Ruskin, along the eastern shoreline of Tampa Bay. This venue provided excellent dining and great service from friendly staff and functioned as a rendezvous point for several other registered teams arriving from southern departure points including Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Venice, and Sarasota. The Friday Fun Run served as a great shakedown for all the teams, who were later provided with a flex-format for dinner plans, with many having dinner at Jackson’s Bistro, while others ventured to some of Tampa’s iconic restaurants like Bern’s Steakhouse or Columbia at the Ybor City Historic District.

Saturday morning after a dockside breakfast was hosted, the boats launched on schedule from the Tampa Convention Center docks, as the harbor came to life shortly after 10 am for the traditional bonus card handoff segment, executed by the talented team of FPC girls. This proved to be a great photo and video capture moment, as random spectators lined the railings of the Tampa Riverwalk, a popular walking, biking, jogging path the cuts through the heart of downtown Tampa with scenic water views for all 2.6 miles of its entirety. As always boat drivers were instructed to get underway soon after gathering up their first card, to spread out the flow of departing teams, with the two primary objectives in mind. One, to provide better safety with essential spacing between the boats as they exit Seddon Channel into Tampa Bay, and two, equally important to the organizers and participants, to capture excellent photo and video coverage from the aerial team, flying in the Robinson R44. Everybody wants great helicopter coverage, and this is a formula that provides the best results! On board the Bradenton-based Robinson was Pete Boden managing still photography, and FPC’s video-production manager Ryan

McCoy captured video for the club’s various media platforms, including YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, along with private member content packages.

Due to the size of the event, it has been customary to offer multiple venues for the Saturday lunch program. Although Tampa and St. Petersburg are certainly known for the numerous lunch options throughout the area, few are capable of managing a 45-boat, 225-person invasion on a busy Saturday, which puts FPC organizers constantly in search of the best locations. In an attempt to keep a fresh stream of new options for repeat participants, new locations were added for 2026, including Finn’s Dockside Bar & Grill at Apollo Beach, and Tiki Docks Riverview, which was assigned primarily to teams with lowprofile outboard cats, due to the limited clearance of a railway bridge, and the shallow draft of the Alafia River. The usual staples that remained on the option list included Doc Fords at the St. Pete Pier, Hula Bay at Tampa Harbor Marina, and The Getaway, known for its rustic Keys-like atmosphere. All reports coming back from participants indicated that everyone was happy with their lunch experience.

Unfortunately, the same could not be said about the bumpy bay conditions due to north winds attacking Tampa Bay and coastal waters beyond the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. While most teams could cope with the light chop on the bay, of the forty-five teams present, a dozen or more opted out of the Egmont Key checkpoint, which was a Viking yacht anchored off the key’s beach about five miles west of the Sunshine Skyway. As safety advocates, FPC organizers always applaud captains when making the right decision to abort turbulent seas for the sake of safety and comfort of the crew, and we are certain that many FPC wives and crew members, are one hundred percent in agreement!

With the boats back in safe harbor, and after an adventurous day of boating and fun dockside party after the run, enthusiastic teams later gathered at the Westin Waterside Resort ballroom for a festive Gamblers Night Party, a format that was introduced earlier in the season, which places a total of ten players at the final table to play continuous rounds of five-card stud poker, eliminating one player per round. These final rounds have put so much fun and excitement into the Saturday evening festivities, that we as organizers keep asking ourselves..” Why haven’t we done this more often?” And the simple answer is: Even after thirty-five years of powerboating events and throwing fun parties, there are ALWAYS new ways to improve the fun, spice up the parties, expand the adventures, and deliver our members the best experiences possible. FPC will never lose sight of that mission!

After two exciting days of powerboating, the Tampa event culminated with the Saturday night awards party, staged at Westin Waterside Resort ballroom, requiring a simple elevator ride for most guests or a five minute walk for those staying at the Marriott Water Street hotel. This is always a festive evening, with teams enjoying a cocktail reception upon arrival, where they played out their poker hands and enjoyed event highlight videos on the big screen.

Southern CHARM

While the Orange Beach Powerboat Week is geographically the most northerly event staged on Florida Powerboat Club's annual event calendar, it may seem puzzling to South Floridians that is area is commonly referred to as "The South". But there is one common theme that most visitors would agree on, that the Southern Charm of Orange Beach and the surrounding coastal communities might be the main reason they keep coming back!

FPC members celebrated seven years at the Orange beach power Boat Week event presented by The Wharf. Festivities kicked off Thursday with the Miss Orange beach Powerboat Week contest, which added a new venue at Ginny Lane, and by Friday morning, the boats were underway eastbound to the most popular restaurant in the area, Juanas Pagodas in Navarre Beach. While the offshore course was an option, all teams gladly defaulted to the scenic ICW route through Perdido Key and Pensacola Beach.

Cloudy skies did not dampen spirits, as most members were happy to avoid the hot sun for the majority of the day while staying dry and enjoying Juana’s lunch stop. Accelerating the agenda due to incoming weather kept the entire fleet safe from pending afternoon storms. Staying primarily on the protected intercoastal waterways a mixture of catamaran, performance, V bottoms, and multi engine center consoles, cruised safely on the 100 mile round-trip.

Saturday weather radar predicted substantial storms coming in from the west, as organizers suggested that all boats take safe

harbor for the day unless they opted to brave the weather and head to the scheduled stop at the Grand Mariner Restaurant in Mobile Bay. Instead, the group enjoyed amenities at The Wharf, and congregated for a group lunch rendezvous at Ginny Lane Restaurant.

A handful of the teams decided late in the afternoon to sneak in another hour of boating heading out to local waterfront hotspots including Tacky Jacks and Pirates Cove, although most admitted they had to deal with light rains on the return to The Wharf.

Saturday evening the group was ready to party, and it was a festive occasion as always, for 28 registered teams, and about 125 guests as they gathered a Dicks Last Resort, a spacious restaurant onsite that had been reserved for the private affair! While guests enjoyed a variety of appetizers and dinner, the Sponsor presentations and Presidents Choice awards kept the group entertained! Among the guests, Texas attendees had a strong showing with at least ten registered teams from the Lonestar state, and almost half of them made it to the final round of ten players for this Saturday night gambler’s party.

Midnight Express

While Midnight Express appears to be building boats at full capacity at their manufacturing facility, it is comforting news to Midnight customers and company owners alike that management is taking a larger production footprint at the existing North Miami production facility. This transition will help the builder step up production of all models, ranging from 34’ to 52’ feet, including the new 49’ Nyx center console, which launched in late 2025 at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, and later made its debut at FPC’s 33rd Key West Powerboat Week event. Of course, it wasn’t long after the release of the new 49’, that orders started rolling in, and several new builds are rolling out and into the hands of long-term, loyal Midnight Express owners, wanting to step up their hull size, without adding beam and a 6th Mercury Racing 500R. But for those who share the passion for big boats and lots of power, the 52’ Pied De Mar still fits the bill, and several of these massive center consoles are being seen on a regular basis around South Florida waters.

Addressing Midnight Express’s ongoing success, many reasons can be listed, but as an observer and participant of the performance marine industry for almost four decades, the editor points out two pivotal decisions made the Glaser brothers soon after their launch almost two decades earlier. 1) Involvement and sponsor support of performance boating events, including FPC and other powerboat clubs around the United States, and more recently their series of owner runs to the Florida Keys and Bahamas. 2) The Midnight Express trade-in, refurb program, where company owners go out of their way to take back any inventory that is in reasonable condition, giving their buyers easy trade deals and putting them into a (new) boat, ahead of other buyers. Dating back thirty-five years when Nor-Tech built its first fifty-foot performance V-bottom in Cape Coral, there was another young company starting in the performance marine industry, The Sunny Isles Powerboat Club based in North Miami. Performance boating enthusiasts and loyal Nor-tech owners have learned to trust Nor-Tech with constant innovation and design of new models, and like the 4000 Supercat, this new model essentially created a “new class” of outboard cats, with its quad Mercury Racing 500R engine package, spacious cockpit, and even a cabin below deck! Not to be forgotten, the Nor-tech 340 Sport still packs a good punch for the under-35 center console market, and on the big-boat side of production, the popular 450 Sport and 500 Sport center console models are still in regular production. Few companies in the performance marine industry can flaunt a manufacturing resume that is beyond fifty years, and Myco Trailers in Bradenton, Florida is one of those few! Founded in 1974, Myco quickly took interest in the performance boating community, and later evolved into the leading brand among powerboat racers, recreational performance boaters, and eventually government and military agencies. In the performance arena, Myco now features a full line of primarily welded aluminum frame trailers, with option lists and configurations that are extensive!

As far back as 2007, Myco partnered with Florida Powerboat Club to build a custom trailer for a Nor-Tech 3900 Supervee, King of Clubs, which traveled extensively through Florida and as far away as Texas and Lake Havasu for summer poker run tours. After selling the boat and trailer to a New York FPC member, the entire rig eventually bounced around between owners, as far north as Canada, then back to Texas, then New England and finally landed in upstate New York. Performance Boat Center is becoming a Cigarette dealer again News Release: June 2026

While Performance Boat Center remains the powerhouse performance marine center in Lake of the Ozarks, with a huge floating dock marina, new and used boat sales, and the fabulous Red Head Yacht Club restaurant, they have always kept their sites on South Florida.
