Many thanks to all the people who reached out after receiving the premiere issue of Avenir The Magazine! We are excited that all of Avenir has enjoyed this new magazine, designed to bring our community together. We’ve returned with our second issue, including several fascinating feature stories.
Up first, we preview the third annual Avenir 5K Run/Walk, which is a benefit for the nonprofit K9s for Warriors. This amazing event on Sunday, March 15 is the vision of Avenir residents Sharon and Rick Wollman and is another instance of how Avenir residents have come together to turn a development into a living, breathing community. We also profile the Pearl Clubhouse, which serves as the social hub of the 55plus Regency at Avenir neighborhood. In this feature, we chat with Property Manager Casey Frazier about all the programs and special events offered there.
Continuing in our efforts to get to know the people of Avenir, we speak this issue with Kevin and Amy Williams, who brought their blended family to Avenir last year and love the lifestyle the community offers. Finally, for the culturally minded, we preview the spectacular 2026-27 season of Palm Beach Dramaworks, the region’s home for groundbreaking theater.
Is there someone in Avenir with a great story to tell? Drop us a note at avenirthemagazine@gmail. com. We would love to know about them!

The third annual Avenir 5K Fun Run/ Walk to benefit K9s for Warriors will be held Sunday, March 15. Starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Pearl Clubhouse, this run is more than just a race — it’s a community event with local business partners, raffles and food trucks.
Avenir residents Sharon and Rick Wollman are organizing the race, set to draw in runners, walkers and families alike from across Avenir, including Regency at Avenir, the 55-plus active adult community that is home to the Pearl Clubhouse.
Starting on Regency Way at the Pearl, runners will travel along Avenir Drive to Coconut Blvd., looping back at Migration Point and continuing on Avenir Drive until Coral Isles Circle, before finishing back at the Pearl.
Three years ago, when the Wollmans first moved to Avenir, they were looking for a way to connect to the new community while doing something beneficial.
“We called ourselves the pioneers because there weren’t a lot of people
who had moved in yet,” Sharon explained. “It was year one. Nothing was built here. We started this race, and we were hoping we’d get a hundred people. It has taken off in leaps and bounds.”
Rick has been a runner for the past 40 years and thought Avenir would be a great setting to hold a race. With his racing experience, Rick noticed that not every run fosters community. Some races you simply ran, got your medal and left.
“Sharon and I really wanted to do a pure community event,” Rick stressed. “It’s not just the running and the walking, it’s what happens afterward with all the raffle prizes, local business and sponsor booths.”
This event isn’t just for the Avenir community, it also benefits rescue dogs and veterans. The Wollmans have a long history with K9s for Warriors that predates their time in Avenir. Sharon started raising funds for the organization in 2012 at her backyard parties with photos booths and dunk tanks.

With her love for rescue animals and helping veterans, K9s for Warriors has remained close to her heart.
“I’ve been doing volunteer work for animal organizations all my life, but at the end of the day, when you see the connection that a veteran has with a dog, it speaks volumes,” Sharon explained.
K9s for Warriors is a nonprofit or-

ganization that pairs service dogs with veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic injuries. These service dogs, once rescues looking for a place to belong, receive professional training to become invaluable allies to veterans. K9s for Warriors aims to save the lives of both veterans and rescue dogs. As the largest service dog program for veterans
in the United States, 2,000 dogs have been rescued since 2011.
Community members across Avenir turn out in support for this cause. Last year, 230 people joined the 5K event alone, with many more family and friends in attendance. Each year the crowd grows.
“It’s gaining more traction,” Sharon said. “We’re meeting more people, and
people want in. It’s pulling us in even tighter as a community.”
“It gives everyone in the community a sense of pride that they live in Avenir,” Rick added.
It’s not just runners or walkers coming out on race day. People from around the Avenir neighborhoods want to volunteer. Volunteers help pick up packets, get raffle prizes and stuff swag

bags. “It’s not just the race. People love it. It really pulls people together,” Sharon said.
Some sponsors are Avenir residents themselves. Local business Pure Way Water Filtration is a platinum sponsor and is donating a complete water filtration system. CJ’s Home Concierge is sponsoring for the third year and is also owned by an Avenir local, as is new sponsor Cima Health.
The magnitude of community support is growing exponentially. Velocity Community Credit Union is not only a gold sponsor but is also having all the employees at their new Avenir location participate in the run/walk.
There are more than 35 sponsors, ranging from restaurants and salons to pet groomers and landscapers, demonstrating their investment in Avenir.
Everyone is welcome to come to the race, from seniors to kids.
“We have 75-year-olds and 80-yearolds doing the walk,” Sharon said. This year, they expect more than 250 walkers and runners. Each race participant receives a swag bag, a medal for competing and the annual T-shirt.
After the race, runners, walkers and supporters can look forward to drinks and sweet treats at the Pink Tiki Coffee Bar and Le Macaron French Pastries food trucks, as well as a Bagels
with Deli table. The raffle draw promises some serious excitement with prizes like a $575 voucher for a year of car washes with Mint Eco Car Wash, a wine magnum, a $500 wine tasting, a $600 basket from Bloomingdale’s and more to come. The grand prizes are all worth $500 and over.
Beyond the food and prizes, the run/walk is simply a great way to get to know the community. Residents get to know people from across the street and across the neighborhood. Sharon recounted her friend’s reaction to the new faces at the race. “She said, ‘I just met your neighbor, and I can’t believe it took this race for me to meet them!’ People get to meet people,” Sharon recalled.
As Avenir grows and more people move to the community, the Wollmans hope that the run/walk event grows, too. Raising more than $30,000 in the 2025 race, the Wollmans hope to surpass this amount and continue to aid K9s for Warriors this year.
“Our vision to grow this race year after year is not only to get runners, but to make it a fair,” Rick said. “Make it a whole day event with music and snacks — where people can come from all over and spend the day.”

As one of the only 55-plus communities in Avenir, Regency and its clubhouse, the Pearl, stand apart from the many neighborhoods of the quickly growing development. With a host of amenities and clubs for its tight-knit residents, it’s easy to see how this community attracts active 55-and-up individuals from around the country.
Walking into the Pearl, guests are greeted by a bright and airy atmosphere with high ceilings and coastal touches. The sprawling center boasts modern fixtures and serene décor that is truly reminiscent of the club’s namesake. The welcome area invites residents to sit and play a board game or sample coffee from the complimentary coffee bar.
Casey Frazier, the property manager, is joined by three club attendants to ensure that everyday events and special events run smoothly. As a Florida native herself and longtime resident of The Acreage, Frazier is deeply familiar with the western communities. She will have been at Regency for three years
this May and has seen the community grow in leaps and bounds.
“When I first started, there were maybe a little over 100 homes, and now we’re pushing 373 to 380,” Frazier noted.
She was there through the rebuild after homes and the Pearl were damaged by the tornado from Hurricane Milton. “It looked like a bomb went off,” Frazier recalled. “The clubhouse was in shambles. There was a giant hole in the roof of the aerobics room.”
The tennis courts, pickleball courts and pool furniture all had to be replaced. Yet amid the destruction, the community stepped up.
“The community came together so amazingly to help people and rebuild. We had people out here immediately putting tarps on roofs and just being there for their neighbors,” Frazier said.
This sentiment of interconnection seems to be ever present at Regency and the Pearl. There’s an array of clubs to choose from, including the Regency Book Club, Mahjong Club, Regency

Day Trippers, Fiber Friends Club, Mixed Media Art Club, Flights Around the World Wine Club and Regency Cares.
As the community continues to grow, more niches are created.
“We have a lot of people who keep bringing new ideas of things they want to start and establish here at Regency,” Frazier explained. “It’s always something changing, growing and enhancing — having more for people to do.”
In addition to clubs and events, the Pearl offers state-of-the-art amenities. Within the walls of the clubhouse

itself, residents can enjoy the Stripes and Solids Billiards Room, complete with a pool table and a poker table, the Golf Simulator Room, and the card room.
For community gathering or private parties, the Coquina Ballroom offers a welcoming space with a stage, while the Marina Club serves as a spectacular bar for entertaining. For the wine aficionado, they offer wine lockers, so residents don’t have to lug their bottles to and from events.
“We have a pretty good number

of activities that we have going on throughout each month to bring homeowners together and to keep everyone engaged,” Frazier said. “We have things for just about everyone.”
For those interested in art, the Pearl has a designated art room with its very own ceramics kiln. There is also a spa on site called Spa Vibes, which caters to the wellness oriented. With private rooms for massages, manicure and pedicure services, and facials, club-goers are sure to leave feeling refreshed. The fitness center offers a full gym and workout classes through Hustle Training 360, as well as a dedicated yoga room.
“We have people who play cards throughout the week, and we have a huge pickleball community here,” Frazier added.
With eight pickleball courts, it’s easy to understand the draw. There are also three tennis courts, two bocce ball
courts, a basketball area, a game lawn and a family playground that round out the outdoor game offerings. If outdoor relaxation is more your speed, the resort-style swimming pool, hot tub, poolside grill area, lounge, firepit and hammocks provide plenty of options to unwind.
The multitude of amenities and programs for Regency homeowners has attracted a community on the younger side of 55-plus. Residents are often not yet retired and are looking for ways to be actively engaged with their neighbors and surrounding community.
Frazier plans events like monthly lectures with guest speakers; Coffee with Friends, a chance for neighbors to mingle over breakfast; a concert series with cover bands; a Pearl Palooza, one Sunday a month by the pool devoted to entertainment with a food truck; and, of course, holiday celebrations.
“Some of them are scared for that
next step. They hear 55, and they think they’re getting old, but it’s not the case,” Frazier reflected. “You’re just starting that next chapter, and it’s a matter of continuing to enhance your life, while also being with the same age group of people who are going through the same thing as you.”
New residents will feel this sense of belonging almost immediately. The club attendants are ready to welcome them and answer questions they have, and the various clubs are always happy to get new members. New committees are being formed now in this growing neighborhood, and the up-and-coming Welcome Committee will further facilitate the entry of new homeowners into this active and engaged Avenir community.
The Pearl at Regency at Avenir is located at 9890 Regency Way in Palm Beach Gardens. For more information, visit www.regencyatavenirhoa.com.

The Pearl’s amenities include the resort-style pool area, a fitness center, an array of outdoor courts, the Golf Simulator Room and more.

The Williams family moved to Avenir in June 2025 and have been appreciating the community ever since. Their blended family of eight has found a niche where their children can safely play and scooter around the neighborhood, while mom and dad can meet new friends on the pickleball court.
Amy Williams, originally from the Midwest, moved to Florida from Indiana for her career in marketing. Kevin Williams, who grew up across the eastern United States, moved from Memphis, Tennessee, to Florida for his role on the legal and business team at a Clewiston-based company. They met more than three years ago over Memorial Day weekend while Kevin was scouting potential places to move.
“We didn’t take a lot of time to figure out it was going to be something long term,” Amy recalled.
The couple tied the knot this past May, uniting their different backgrounds. Amy comes from Korean heritage, while Kevin comes from a Jamaican background. Kevin’s four children — Kennedy, age 18; Madison, age 15; Yale, age 14; and Dean, age 11 — pri-
marily live in Memphis, coming to Florida every chance they get. Amy’s daughters Alisa, age 16, and Nia, age 12, are full-time residents of the Sunshine State.
Having a large, blended family comes with its own challenges.
“I think it forces you to create a space and environment where everyone can express themselves and be their own individuals,” Kevin explained. “There are eight different emotional states in the house, and they’re all coming from different perspectives: age, gender and family history.”
Having enough space for everyone was one of the driving factors behind their choice to move to Avenir. They wanted a place where they could be involved in the construction of their home, and they loved that the layout of their home in the Apex neighborhood could be configured so that the primary suite was on the ground floor and all the children’s bedrooms were on the second floor. Having multiple subcommunities in the overall Avenir community was also a draw.
The location of Avenir provided a
happy medium for both the commute to Amy and Kevin’s respective jobs, and the drive to Jupiter, where Alisa attends high school and Nia attends middle school. They have found that a large number of the children who live in Avenir go to school in Jupiter as well.
“We’ve actually found a lot of the kids’ classmates in the neighborhood,” Amy said.
The children can easily walk to their friends’ houses and have made new friends by simply “running around the neighborhood,” Kevin noted.
Amy and Kevin find that letting the children explore helps them gain a sense of independence. They ride their scooters around and even go pick up food from the restaurant at the Nest.
“I’ll get a text message from one of them, saying, ‘Hey, I’m going outside’ or ‘I’ll be out on the scooter,’” Kevin said.
The Williams family also loves to spend time together talking and playing board games. Amy and Kevin hope to teach their family to not only respect differences but to also appreciate them. Each of the children has their

own unique interests and goals, ranging from academics and Model UN, to competitive dance and anime. While Amy and Kevin were originally worried about how their children would get along, the kids quickly grew accustomed to each other.
“We’re really proud of how the kids navigated this blending — on their own
and even how they have led us,” Amy said.
The family bonded on special vacation trips, like a ski trip to Vail, which remains a highlight. Skiing and tubing as a family created lasting memories.
“I remember that being a cool memory,” Amy recalled. “Kevin and I were inside, and all the kids were making
s’mores and hanging out with each other on the porch through the back patio.”
Amy and Kevin have also been finding friends at Avenir, largely on the pickleball court. Amy is in two pickleball leagues, while Kevin is in one. They started playing pickleball two years ago and were quickly recruited by their

— Kevin Williams
neighbors to join the Avenir teams. They’ve also found themselves cooking more since they moved and met fellow residents over barbecue.
“Actually, a neighbor approached us a few weeks ago, and they said they could smell what we were cooking and were hoping we could invite them over,” Kevin laughed.

Kevin and Amy Williams have found that a large number of the residents in Avenir are originally from the Northeast, and that every person they meet seems to have interesting stories and life experiences to share.
“Sometimes you get a little nervous, being a minority moving into an area where there’s not a lot of people who look like you, but it has been really

good, and there’s a lot of people who come from places where there’s more diversity,” Amy explained.
Meanwhile, they are excited to see how the community will grow and are eagerly awaiting the completion of the Great Egret, Avenir’s western clubhouse, as well as for more shops and restaurants to open. Right now, Avenir feels like a retreat for their family. After they get home from work and school, they are in their own bubble inside a thriving community tucked away in western Palm Beach Gardens.
“We’re looking forward to seeing what it turns into, and it looks like it’s going to exceed our expectations,” Kevin said. “Once you’re out here, you are really in this kind of oasis.”

World premieres. Co-productions. A luminous, thoughtprovoking musical. An absurdist classic. A contemporary play that should be more widely known. These are the colors of Palm Beach Dramaworks’ exciting 2026-27 season, which features five disparate plays that together provide a microcosm of the company’s mission: a commitment to producing classic, contemporary and world premiere plays that entertain, enlighten, stimulate discussion and illuminate our shared humanity.
It is a mission guided by the spirit of the original regional theater movement, which was created as an alternative to the artistic restraints and commercial necessities of Broadway; by the desire to bring quality professional theater to communities throughout the country, nurture local talent, cultivate new audiences and become integral to the cultural fabric; by the opportunity to explore and experiment and develop new, thought-provoking and unconventional

work, while also showcasing some of the great plays of the past.
Palm Beach Dramaworks’ 2026-27 season opens on Oct. 9 with the world premiere of Alejandro Rodriguez’s Alba, which is inspired by Federico García Lorca’s La Casa de Bernarda Alba and was part of the 2025 Perlberg Festival of New Plays. Alba is followed, on Dec. 9, with the second world premiere of the season, Jennifer Maisel’s Provenance (rights pending), which will be a co-production with the Asolo Repertory Theatre in Sarasota. This unique play, about the life of a painting, was initially seen by PBD audiences during the 2026 Perlberg Festival of New Plays. Next up, opening Feb. 12, is the romantic and deeply moving The Light in the Piazza , written by Craig Lucas (book) and Adam Guettel (music and lyrics). Winner of numerous Tony Awards, the musical will be a co-production with the Riverside Theatre in Vero Beach. Moving from the sublime

to the absurd, Harold Pinter’s The Birthday Party , a classic comedy of menace, opens April 2. Closing out the season will be Richard Strand’s Ben Butler , which opens on May 21. This very funny comedy is inspired by an event in the life of a historical figure who will likely be unfamiliar to most audiences on the way in, but unforgettable on the way out.
“The 2026-27 season really does epitomize who we are, and is also an indicator of our continuing evolution,” Producing Artistic Director William Hayes said. “For some time now, we’ve been exploring the possibility of doing coproductions with other theater companies. We’ve done a few in the recent past, but we’ve come to believe that collaboration is the wave of the future — and not simply for the financial advantages. They will be the exception, not the rule, but when you work with other respected institutions, you learn from each other, discover new ideas and

develop more resources. You make new connections, open new doors, build name recognition and expand your audience. We’re excited by the possibilities.”
Also featured is a special, limited-engagement event.
“Bringing in major talent to share their special gifts is another way of expanding our vision,” Hayes said, “which is one of the reasons we’re so delighted to be presenting internationally renowned artist Hershey Felder for a limited engagement.”
Felder, who has been called “a world-class singular artist” by American Theatre magazine, brings his newest and most personal show, The Piano & Me, to PBD on Oct. 30.
Seasonal subscriptions are on sale now. Although The Piano & Me will be performed shortly after the closing of Alba, it is not part of PBD’s subscription season. However, subscribers have the opportunity to add the show at an exclusive rate.
ALBA (World Premiere)
By Alejandro Rodriguez
Oct. 9-25, 2026
Inspired by La Casa de Bernarda Alba by Federico García Lorca, Alba follows a strong-willed Cuban matriarch trying to hold onto control of her house in the face of many encroaching forces, including newfangled technology, impatient debtors and a young suitor with suspicious motives. Narrated by her grandchild and set in working-class Miami, the play seeks to make sense of the unspoken secrets that led to a tragic family event. Alba was first seen at PBD as part of the 2025 Perlberg Festival of New Plays.
PROVENANCE (World Premiere)
By Jennifer Maisel
Dec. 9-27, 2026
Co-Production with Asolo Repertory Theatre
The life of a sensual, unusual portrait from its beginnings in early 1900s German society, through its theft by the Nazis and its subsequent travels around the world. Canvas. Pencil. Paint. How can one piece of art tear at the hearts of generations? Provenance was first seen at PBD as part of the 2026 Perlberg Festival of New Plays. (Rights pending.)
THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA
Book by Craig Lucas with music and lyrics by Adam Guettel
Feb. 12-28, 2027
Co-Production with Riverside Theatre

In this lyrical, shimmering musical, winner of multiple Tony Awards, Margaret Johnson takes a trip to Italy in the summer of 1953 with her daughter, Clara, a beautiful, childlike young woman. Clara falls in love with Fabrizio, a handsome Florentine who wants to marry her. The protective Margaret, trying to come to terms with her own unhappy marriage, must decide whether to allow her determined, challenged daughter to follow her heart.
THE BIRTHDAY PARTY
By Harold Pinter
April 2-18, 2027
This classic, absurdist, comedy of menace is set in a ramshackle boarding house run by Meg and Petey. Meg decides to throw a birthday party for their only boarder, Stanley, despite his objections. When two ominous strangers arrive, the celebration is transformed into a nightmare. Linguistically dexterous and full of the playwright’s signature pauses and perplexing dialogue, the play is ambiguous, ambitious, funny, horrifying and thought-provoking, with an ending that invites more questions.
BEN BUTLER
By Richard Strand
May 21 - June 6, 2027
The laughter flows in this historical — make that hysterical — comedy set in 1861 and inspired by an event in the life of the colorful and controversial Benjamin Butler, a major general in the Union Army. His principles are tested when three escaped slaves come to him at Fort Monroe, Virginia, seeking sanctuary. Should he obey the law and send them back, or obey his conscience and perhaps change the course of history?
HERSHEY FELDER
SPECIAL LIMITED ENGAGEMENT
Oct. 30 - Nov. 22, 2026
Known the world over for his theatrical portrayals of great composers and musical storytelling, having premiered his now world-famous play George Gershwin Alone in Palm Beach 25 years ago, Hershey Felder brings his most personal work to Palm Beach Dramaworks. The Piano & Me, a new play with music, features Felder playing Felder, as well as the many characters he’s met along the way who made his art possible. He tells the story behind the story of his more than 30 years onstage, and features the music of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Rachmaninoff and others. This is the story of the joy, the heartbreak, the elation, the insanity, and above everything else, the music that drives it all.

Palm Beach Dramaworks is a professional, nonprofit theater company founded in 2000 and located in the heart of downtown West Palm Beach. Each season, the awardwinning company produces five shows and offers a wide variety of programs for students at the theater and in schools.
