Welcome to Fleurvana November

Fleurvana kicks off November with our first "Body Issue". This month we will celebrate the beauty of the human form and expand the empowerment of different view points of floral artistry. November has always been a time for friendship and family in my world. I challenge you to take a look at your relationships (professional, personal, family etc.) during this scorpio season and see where you should spend more energy celebrating and where you should unplug. It's the season of gratitude and giving after all, but it's also the season of burnout and exhaustion. You deserve to have a full cup of blessings. Just don't stretch yourself to the breaking point trying to fill everyone else's cup first. Welcome to November!

SHAYAI LUCERO DESIGNING WITH NATIVE FLAIR New Mexican floral designer Shayai Lucero is redefining what it means to merge your personal heritage with your botanical style. As the owner of Earth & Sky Floral Designs, Lucero brings her own quirky, Native American flair into every floral design she creates. Born and raised on the reservations of the Pueblos of Acoma and Laguna, this former Miss Indian World title holder is passionate about designing with elements that are unique to her people and her land. She is a lifelong student of traditional Pueblo medicinal plants – some of which she incorporates into her designs. Lucero even received her Certificate in Traditional Mexican Healing through a multi-institutional program involving the University of New Mexico, La Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Morelos (Mexico) and el Centro de Desarrollo Humano hacia la Comunidad (Mexico). I really enjoyed my time with Shayai and learned so much from her – and hope you do too!

In 2019, Lucero was commissioned by the FBI to create the Native Warriors Wreath to commemorate National American Indian Heritage Month.

Hi, my name is Laurie Zelinski, astrologer and wellbeing mentor. I’m coming to you today with the November issue of The Creative’s Connection to the Cosmos. This monthly column is especially curated for Fleuvana magazine and floral creatives. November brings several big celestial events; a powerful Full Moon Eclipse, planets once retrograde now in forward motion, another planet going retrograde, and the Sun changing signs. Let’s start with the topic of last month’s column: retrogrades. If you remember we had 6 planets in retrograde in September. I talked about how retrogrades offer a time for us to slow down and reflect, review, re-evaluate, and rethink areas in our lives that are triggered or impacted.

In October Mercury (the planet of communication), Saturn (the planet of hard work, lessons and maturity), and Pluto (the planet of power and transformation) all turned direct. When planets turn direct they go back over some of the same territory they covered when they were in retrograde. It’s like driving forward at a red light, stopping and going back through the light, and then putting the car back in drive and going through the red light one last time. The going forward motion allows us the opportunity to integrate lessons, epiphanies, revelations, or information that came forward during the retrograde. I do want to mention we still have Uranus (the planet of awakening) and Neptune (the planet of dreams and illusions) in retrograde until late in the year, so more to come!

We have one planet that has recently gone retrograde and that bears pointing out. On October 30 Mars (the planet of vitality, creativity and conflict) went retrograde and will not go direct until January 12, 2023. This is an unusually long retrograde for Mars and it’s in the sign of Gemini (communication, creative ideas). This could be a boost of ideas about new projects or creative ways to breathe life into existing ones, but watch your words and be careful not to be pulled into arguments or conflicts. Mid-October marked the beginning of the second eclipse season of 2022, with the New Moon Partial Solar EClipse on October 25. Eclipses are important times when energetic portals open. Eclipse energy can be felt to be building about 2 weeks before and can last up to 6 months after.

This can be a time of downloads, and can signal swift changes as well as beginnings, endings, and significant life shifts. There are generally 4 eclipses a year that occur in pairs, with an occasional 3rd eclipse joining one of the pairs. The final eclipse of 2022 (the last of the 2nd pair) courts on the US midterm elections November 8th. This eclipse involves Mercury (the planet of communication), Venus (the planet of love and money), and Uranus (the planet of awakening). It will be very interesting to see how this manifests at a personal level for each of us as well as a global level. I believe this is one of the most intense astrological events of 2022. Finally, on November 22 the Sun changes from Scorpio (a fixed water sign) to Sagittarius (a mutual fire sign).

Scorpionic energy can feel heavy, but it also provides the drive to dig deep into the dark places in order to achieve some sort of transformation. This shift from this Sagittarius Sun might have you feeling the need to expand your horizons, learn something new, or even embark on a spiritual journey. I hope this helps you navigate some of the astrological events of November. Until next time keep reaching for the stars.
