National Gun Violence Awareness Day is an annual event in the United States that aims to recognize the thousands of people who are killed or injured by gun violence each year. This year's event comes after a mass shooting at a Texas elementary school on May 24, in which 21 people were killed. In 2021, there have already been 233 mass shootings in the US, resulting in more than 18,000 deaths. Efforts to impose stricter gun regulations have failed in the past, but many Americans hope that recent attacks will inspire change. The Wear Orange Weekend, which takes place from June 3-5, promotes gun safety and encourages people to take action against gun violence. The March for Our Lives, founded by survivors of a school shooting in Florida, is planning nationwide marches on June 11, with the main event taking place in Washington, D.C.
