Dear Members, Although it has been a great summer at the Club, I can’t help but be excited about the change of seasons and the cooler temps heading our way. September usually delivers great golf weather and, with the greens aeration already behind us, we’re sure to enjoy perfect golf conditions, too.

We’ll cap off the summer with a fun-filled Labor Day Weekend including our annual Grog Party on Sunday, September 1st. This family friendly event offers something for everyone — a great menu, live music, a bounce house for the kids and FIREWORKS to send summer off with a bang.

GOLF NEWS Dear Members, Cooler temperatures are just around the corner, football season is here, the golf course is in amazing shape … it must mean it is fall at The National! It is difficult to believe it is already September and we are winding down the 2019 golfing season. Even though we are approaching the end of our season, there are still plenty of great events remaining. In September we will host both our Men’s and Ladies’ Club Championships and MGA Closing Day. Mark your calendar for October 4th and 5th for the Watson Cup and October 10th-12th for our Inaugural Fall Classic. Complete details may be found on the following pages. We’d like to congratulate the winning families from our August 18th Family Golf Tournament: 1st Place went to Team Arnett; Team Zick took 2nd Place; Michael Good won “Closest to the Pin” at #4; and Carson Bjorn won “Closest to the Pin” at #6. Dear Members, First of all, let me say that it is great to be part of this amazing Club. The National Golf Club holds the reputation as one of the best clubs in Kansas City and I’m honored to uphold that tradition.
Aerification on #5 Green
As I write this article, fall aerification is underway. This process will promote healthy roots and alleviate compaction going into the fall. After a long and wetterthan-normal summer, the turf grass has come through in good condition overall. We will start fall overseeding in the upcoming weeks. These areas are typically associated with high traffic or spots that struggled during the summer heat and humidity. The native grasses have gotten fairly overrun with weeds. We are in the process of mowing these areas and we will apply a pre-emergent later this fall to help combat the weeds next season. We will be overseeding some of these areas as well. The National Practice Facility
One of the capital projects that we will be working on this fall is cart path repairs. We will start on hole #1 going forward. This will most likely be an annual project for the next several years until we have gotten all the way around the course. We will also be finishing the dredge for the water feature on #17 this fall. There will be no “pay-as-you-go” rate. Your account will be charged prior to start of session and no refunds will be made. You must cancel a private lesson 24-hours in advance or your account will be charged. Minimum of six participants are needed for an event to be held. There will be a $10 fee for late registration to events and clinics. Times and days may be subject to change. If there are less than three participants in a clinic, it will be cancelled or re-scheduled. Rain outs may be scheduled during weekends.
