We would be honored if you joined us on Monday, November 11th for the 16th Annual Veterans Day Scramble at The National Golf Club. We celebrate this opportunity to pay tribute to the brave men and women who have served our country proudly throughout the years and those who are currently fighting for our freedom all over the world. National and Deuce members and their guests may sign up to participate in this time-honored event. We’ll pair two members or a member/ guest pair with two of our invited military guests. The cost for the event is $150+ per person and will include golf, carts, lunch, participant gifts and dinner. The fee helps the Club offset expenses and underwrite the costs for our invited military guests, who pay nothing to participate. If you are unable to play in the Scramble but would like to contribute to help underwrite the costs of this event, we would be most grateful for your support. Proceeds from the event will be donated to a charitable organization. If you would like to contribute, please email Nic Ingram at nicholasi@thenationalgolfclub.com with your donation amount and we’ll charge it to your member account. This year we’re also offering a limited number of seats for members who aren’t able to play in the event but who would like to attend the celebratory dinner. The charge for dinner is $40++ per person with your reservations made through the Concierge at 816.746.0200 or by email to: concierge@thenationalgolfclub.com. Please mark your calendar for this moving and ceremonial event! If you would like to register, please contact Nic Ingram, Director of Golf at 816.741.0634 or nicholasi@thenationalgolfclub.com.

GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE Gary Sailer, CGCS Director of Golf Course Maintenance

Dear Members, It’s been a very eventful first month on the job for me, but I am enjoying my time here at The National Golf Club and looking forward to the future. October is one of my favorite months of the year. Cooler weather and colorful trees are the biggest reason after a long summer. It is also a month when the Zoysia grass starts to go dormant on the tees and fairways. We will let them grow out an inch or two as a protective measure against the cold weather that lies ahead. The cool-season grasses start to slow down a bit as well. This is a very good month to replace cool-season sod in the rough. We will focus on high-traffic areas and locations where seed is not a viable option. We will also be overseeding the greens during the first part of October. Bunker maintenance will also be a priority; as some of our mowing duties slow down, we will focus on checking sand depths and adding sand where needed. We recently repaired the walk bridge on #1. This bridge was displaced due to the heavy rains we encountered early in the summer. As this month goes on, leaf removal will also be a priority. We will process the leaves with our mowers as we mow roughs, but we will also use blowers to remove them from play areas. Have a great October and a Happy Halloween! Regards, Gary Sailer, CGCS Director of Golf Course Maintenance

With the changing of the seasons comes another change for our Club. Executive Director of Food & Beverage, John Geiger, is leaving the FiveStar family. Over the past several years, John has made significant improvements to our Club’s service, procedures, training and menus. We would like to thank John for his leadership and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.

Jack Meyers Director of Food & Beverage

Another change you’ll notice this month is a new feature on Wednesdays … Spaghetti & Meatball Night! See details on the next page and be sure to join us for dinner or call and carry out your order. Now that football season is here (GO CHIEFS!), we hope you’ll cheer on our hometown team at one of the watch parties we have scheduled in October. Wear your Chiefs gear and join us on Sunday, October 6th and Thursday, October 17th at The National Clubhouse. We have many other exciting things planned for you this month including our Silver Oak Wine Dinner, Ladies’ Witches Who Wine, a Family Halloween Party and our highly anticipated Family Fall Festival. Complete details may be found on the following pages. We thank you for making advance reservations so that we may staff and prepare accordingly. If you have any questions or concerns or if I may be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your support. Jack Meyers Director of Food & Beverage jackm@thenationalgolfclub.com

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month so we are “keeping it pink” with this month’s featured wine! For each glass purchased, we’ll donate $1 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation; for each bottle purchased, we’ll donate $3.

TOAD HOLLOW DRY ROSÉ OF PINOT NOIR This wine offers an alluring rose quartz color with aromas of melon sorbet, peach and baking spice. You’ll experience bright and lively flavors of watermelon, Bosque pear and wild strawberry with a note of a ginger finish. Crisp. Flavorful. Satisfying!

Meet Wine Expert Tiffany Frazier Regional Sales Manager When Tiffany Frazier was offered her position at Silver Oak and Twomey, she had to take a deep breath. “It was true elation and one of the best moments of my life." Afterward as she was sitting outside by the winery garden, she still had to pinch herself. “Knowing that I was going to be part of this historic winery and family – the feeling was indescribable." With experience in the wine industry that stretches back 14 years, Tiffany is particularly grateful to work for a familyowned winery. “The positive energy and true happiness is palpable as soon as you walk through the historic doors of the winery."
