Developing Your Mental Golf Game an Evening with Dr. Andrew Jacobs Sports Psychologist Saturday, June 15th at 5:30p at The National Clubhouse Dr. Andrew Jacobs Sports Psychologist One of the country’s most respected sports psychologists, Dr. Andrew Jacobs works with athletes of all ages, from kids to professional and Olympic competitors. Called “a pioneer in mental training,” he was one of the first sports psychologists to work with a US Olympic team, a professional team and a university athletic department. Dr. Jacobs has served as the team psychologist for the Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Comets, the University of Kansas and UMKC. Off the field, he helped develop the Cycle Reebok program. Along with the Menninger Leadership Center, he helped to design “The Fifth Quarter,” a program to aid pro athletes with their lives after they retired from their sports careers.

Learn how to develop your mental game from one of foremost experts in sports psychology. Dr. Andrew Jacobs has been a practicing sports psychologist for 30 years for clients including Royals players, Chiefs players and Olympians. He is the sports psychologist for UMKC Athletics and has a weekly radio show on Sports Radio 810. Have you ever wondered how professional golfers stay so cool under pressure? Do you ever marvel when a golfer hits an errant drive in the woods, only to hit the perfect strike out and land the ball just feet from the pin? It’s not just about skill, but a mental toughness that is developed throughout their career. That toughness is not developed on their own, but with the aid of a sports psychologist. Having a sports psychologist as part of their performance team is a necessity if a professional golfer wants to perform at the highest level possible. The National Golf Club is thrilled to offer the membership the opportunity to learn how to develop their mental game from one of foremost experts in the field of sports psychology. Dr. Andrew Jacobs has been a practicing sports psychologist for over 30 years. Join us on Saturday, June 15th at 5:30p at The National Clubhouse for passed hors d’oeuvres followed by a one-hour talk with Dr. Jacobs. Dr . J acobs will speak about some of the basic psychological concepts that apply to golf, take you through a few brief but fun mental activities and speak about how to apply those concepts to your own game. After the talk, Dr. Jacobs will open the floor up to questions. The cost for this evening with Dr. Jacobs is $35++. Guests are welcome! Please reserve your seat by calling 816.746.0200.

Since 1992, Dr. Jacobs has been a radio talk show host. For the past 18 years he has hosted “Dr. Andrew Jacobs Sports Psychology Hour,” on Sports Radio 810WHB. Dr. Jacobs received his bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University and doctorate from the California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego. He has been in private practice in Kansas City since 1981.

“Sports are my passion and have been since I was a kid. I grew up playing baseball and basketball but these days … I’m a recreational golfer.” — Dr. Andrew Jacobs Page 6

GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE Spencer Roberts Director of Golf Course Maintenance

Dear Members, The abundant amount of rain we experienced in May has been a challenge for the Golf Course Maintenance team. As of May 25th, the property has received just under 13 inches of rain for the month. The saturated conditions have it made it difficult to mow, especially in the rough. The team continues to do a great job, working long hours to try to keep up with all of our mowing responsibilities.

Flooding on #9 — May 2019

The Zoysia grass in our fairways has also been negatively affected by all the rain. Standing water and the saturated conditions have created isolated weak or dead areas of turf. The team will repair these specific areas as soon as possible. The repairs should have a limited impact on your golfing experience. Hopefully, we’ll enter a drier weather pattern soon so everyone can enjoy the golf course and other outside Club amenities! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Sincerely, Spencer Roberts Director of Golf Course Maintenance spencer@fivestarlifestyles.com
