American flags lining the Clubhouse drive make me proud to be a part of this Club and even more proud to be a citizen of this great country. The upcoming 4th of July holiday serves as a reminder that we all have much to be thankful for. I’m particularly grateful to the men and women who serve in the military to keep us safe and free. Whether you celebrate Independence Day at the Club or are off on a family vacation, I hope you have a safe, joyful and memorable time.

We have an exciting line-up of events planned during the first week of July and there is literally something for everyone: a Patriotic Parade, Street Fair, Family Dinner Buffet, 4th of July Shotgun, Parents’ Night Out, Pool Party, Live Music at First Fridays Happy Hour, free Drive-In Movie at the Range, Pickleball Junior Club Championship and, of course … a spectacular Fireworks Display. Congratulations goes out to Frank Booth and his guest, Jeff Janssen, on their hard-fought victory in the White Alloe. Dear Members, Happy Fourth of July! This 2019 season continues to bring numerous challenges to the Golf Course Maintenance team as we experienced another damaging flood event on the night of June 22nd. So far in 2019, we have received over 35 inches of rain; this is highest amount ever recorded in Kansas City through the first six months of the year. The team continues to stay positive as we take it one day at a time, trying to create the best possible playing conditions.

The course continues to remain very healthy even after all the rain we have received. As the summer heat starts to settle in, we will alter some maintenance practices, especially to the greens, to make sure all the playing surfaces stay as healthy as possible. Almost all the blemishes in our fairways and tees have been fixed and the new sod should blend in to our existing Zoysia grass fairly quickly. Have a safe and wonderful holiday! Our popular Water Fit class is BACK and in full swing at The National Pool. We’ve had a great turnout for these classes but the Pool is pretty large so there is LOTS of room for more of you to join us for these FREE refreshing workouts!

Join Titleist Performance Certified Trainers Drew Tanner and Sarah Stout, plus National trainer, Wes Buntenbach, at 6p on Tuesdays for the Evening Drive, a FREE golf fitness class designed to improve the mechanics of the entire body. Each class begins with a focus on flexibility and mobility; transitions into a series of exercises for injury prevention and strength; and finishes with exercises for ground force production and power. Even if you’re new to golf or have no experience with golf fitness, this class is modifiable for all fitness and skill levels. And did we mention that it’s FREE?

Instructor Kelly Hrisak uses a combination of water weights, pool noodles and kickboards to get you moving during the hot summer months ahead! Water Fit classes meet Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30a at The National Pool. Classes are FREE like the other regularly scheduled classes offered at The Fitness Center. There’s no need to register in advance either … just dive right into the fun (oh, and wear your swimsuit!).

Our Poolside food and beverage service, now in its second year, is working out very well for members and staff alike. We hope you’ve had the opportunity to place your order from the comfort of your lounge chair or cabana. Of course, we still offer handy grab-and-go items, ice cream novelties and beverages at the Snack Bar for your convenience.

Pool & Snack Bar Hours: The Pool is open daily 10a-8p. The Snack Bar is open daily 11a-7p. Pool Parties: For Pool Parties, please contact Linda Franke at 816.746.0200, ext. 340. Towel Rental: Towels are available for $1 each. Pool Rules: Always obey Lifeguards! No running or horseplay. No sitting on ladders. No diving except in the diving well. Kids 10 and under must be with an adult. No outside food or drink is allowed. No gum, coolers or glass containers. Not responsible for lost items. Adults have priority for chairs and cabanas. Wading pool is for children ages 7 and under. Toys not allowed in the slide pool. The Adult Lap Lane is for adults only.

POLICIES: To provide better service to members, the following policies will be enforced as of May 2019. Clinics may no longer be pro-rated. There will not be a “pay-as-you-go” rate. Your account will be charged prior to the start of the session and no refunds will be made. You must cancel your private lesson 24-hours in advance or your account will be charged. A minimum of six participants are needed each time for an event to be held. There will be a $10 fee for late registration to events and clinics.
