Dear Members, The heat is on as we head into the last month of summer. Each year, these three months seem to fly by faster and faster! We hope you’ll be able to soak up the rest of summer with family fun at the Pool, a few rounds of golf and participation in some of the Club events we have planned. We’ll end the summer with a BANG at our annual Grog Party complete with live music and fireworks. There are LOTS of opportunities for golf this month as we host our annual ladies’ member/ guest tournament, The Morning Belle; the Family Golf Tournament; our Junior Club Championship and our Second Annual Melee where we pit National members vs Deuce members to see which Club comes out on top! GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE Spencer Roberts, CGCS Director of Golf Course Maintenance
Dear Members, I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer so far! July finally brought some dry weather and I hope you were able to enjoy the golf course. Overall, the course continues to be in good shape as we enter August. The cool season turf, especially the greens, continue to do well battling the summer stress. To keep the greens as healthy as possible, we have made slight adjustments to some of our daily cultural practices. The adjustments include raising mowing heights, rolling less frequently and keeping moisture levels a little higher to prevent wilt stress. These specific adjustments have a direct correlation to green speeds and firmness levels. During stressful summer conditions, plant health is our greatest priority. We will complete our second greens aerification the 19th and 20th of August. This important cultural practice not only has positive benefits for plant health but helps us achieve superb playing conditions throughout the season. With the greens actively growing, this process should have a limited impact on playability. Friendly Reminder: Please use the entr y and exit stakes to limit cart traffic in the rough. Gary Sailer Director of Golf Course Maintenance
This will be Spencer’s final report as Director of Golf Course Maintenance. We’re proud to announce that Spencer has been promoted to Vice President of Viridity, FiveStar’s construction and landscape company. Spencer will be succeeded by Gary Sailer, a Certified Golf Course Superintendent with nearly 10 successful seasons at Nicklaus Golf Club where he worked closely with the PGA. While managing the rigors of the superintendent life, Gary has maintained a healthy work-life balance and is complemented by his wife, Jill, of 23 years and their three children: Jack (20), Mitchell (18) and Gretta (16). Gary and Spencer have known one another for some time and their working relationship is built on years of service to a demanding industry and mutual respect. The transition from Spencer to Gary will no doubt be a smooth one. Please join us in congratulating and thanking Spencer for everything he has been and meant to our Clubs and please welcome Gary as the new leader of our Golf Course Maintenance operation. Page 8

No running or horseplay. No diving except in the diving well. No outside food or drink is allowed. Not responsible for lost items. Wading pool is for kids 7 and under. The Adult Lap Lane is for adults only.
Reminder: Pool passes expire at the end of the season! The Pool will be open daily 10a-8p through Tuesday, August 13th. Starting Wednesday, August 14th, the Pool will be open 10a-4p weekdays with NO lifeguards. “Swim-at-Your-Own-Risk� waivers will need to be signed at the check-in desk. Lifeguards WILL be on duty from 4p-8p weekdays and 10a-8p weekends through Labor Day.

Evening Drive Tuesdays at 6p Are you ready to feel better on the golf course? Do want to hit the ball farther and with better control? Join Titleist Performance Certified Trainers Drew Tanner and Sarah Stout, plus National trainer, Wes Buntenbach, at 6p on Tuesdays for the Evening Drive, a FREE golf fitness class designed to improve the mechanics of the entire body. Each class begins with a focus on flexibility and mobility; transitions into a series of exercises for injury prevention and strength; and finishes with exercises for ground force production and power. Even if you’re new to golf or have no experience with golf fitness, this class is modifiable for all fitness and skill levels.
Licensed Massage Therapist, Beth Jackson, is moving on from The National Golf Club. We would like to thank Beth for her more than 15 years of service to the Club. JUNIORS 6-Week Session: September 9th through October 14th Fee: $110 for one session per week for 6-week period or pay $25 per class Junior USTA Next Generation Program Scaling the game down to their size (court, racquets and special balls) makes learning easier and more fun! Juniors develop motor skills and strengthen physical ability while learning teamwork and leadership skills. We work 30 minutes on skills and 30 minutes on instructional match play. Ages 8 and under 60x18-foot court with Red Ball Mondays at 4p Ages 10 and under 60x36-foot court with Orange Ball Mondays at 5p Ages 12 and under full size court with Green Ball Mondays at 6p POLICIES: To provide better service to members, these policies will be enforced: Clinics may no longer be pro-rated. There will be no “pay-as-you-go” rate. Your account will be charged prior to start of session and no refunds will be made. You must cancel a private lesson 24-hours in advance or your account will be charged. Minimum of six participants are needed for an event to be held. There will be a $10 fee for late registration to events and clinics. Times and days may be subject to change. If there are less than three participants in a clinic, it will be cancelled or re-scheduled. Rain outs may be scheduled during weekends.
