Highland Game “US OPEN” Saturday, June 15th (All Day)
Join us for our second Highland Game of the season! Our monthly Highland Games are friendly competitions that you can sign up for on the first tee. Each Highland Game will have a different format, revolving around the PGA Tour’s major championships. This month is, of course … the US Open! The Golf Professionals have designed this month’s game to add a little fun to your round, without interrupting your traditional Saturday group. SUMMER JUNIOR GOLF
Summer Junior Golf Program
The Loch Lloyd Summer Junior Golf Program is an eight-week program that combines instruction along with playing golf. Each weekly session will have a primary focus on a particular golf skill to include putting, chipping, pitching, full-swing, sand play and uneven lies. Following the instructional segment, the students will take their skills onto the golf course under the guidance of a PGA Golf Professional. Each student will receive 8 hours of instruction, 8 hours on the golf course and a tee gift to take home with them. Program Details Thursdays from 10:15a to 12:15p May 30th, June 6th, June 13th, June 27th, July 4th, July 11th, July 18th and July 25th Entry Fee: $175 per student for the 8-week program Each student receives a tee gift to take home! The 2019 Scotty was another for the record books! Although we had rain to contend with on day two, participants had a great time at Thursday evening’s Calcutta and enjoyed an excellent day of golf on Friday. Thank you to all the members who participated in this year’s Member/Member Tournament!

With the busy golf season underway, we thought it might be the perfect time to remind everyone about the policies and procedures with respect to attire at the Clubhouse as well as on the golf course. We realize that not all rules are popular but we also know that rules are often necessary to maintain a dignified atmosphere befitting the caliber of Club that is The Country Club at Loch Lloyd. Here are a few reminders, taken from the Club's “Rules & Regulations” document: No swimsuits or workout attire are allowed in the Clubhouse at any time. Shoes must be worn in the Clubhouse at all times. PROPER ATTIRE FOR THE 19TH AND 20TH HOLE:
Men: Collared shirts or t-shirts in good taste; slacks, golf-length shorts or denim in good taste; button-down shirts may be untucked. Women: Slacks, skirts, golf-length shorts and denim in good taste; shirts with or without a collar. PROPER ATTIRE FOR THE FIRESIDE GRILL: Men must wear collared shirts in the Fireside Grill; no t-shirts are allowed. PROPER ATTIRE FOR GOLF: Men: Sleeved golf shirts with collars or mock turtlenecks should be worn at all times, with the shirts tucked in. Slacks, or golf shorts of appropriate length (no more than two inches above top of the knee) are acceptable. T-shirts, tank tops, cargo shorts with non-flush pockets, walking shorts, denim and swimwear are not allowed. Women: Golf skirts, skorts, slacks, capris or shorts should be worn no more than six inches above the knees. Sleeveless golf shirts must have a collar or crew neck; sleeved golf shirts are acceptable without a collar. Short-shorts/skorts, denim, bathing suits, cover-ups, halters, tank tops, tube tops and t-shirts are not allowed. Headwear and Footwear: Soft-spiked golf shoes or sneakers are to be worn. Dress shoes, sandals, slippers and bare feet are not allowed. Hats, caps and visors should be worn in their intended fashion, with the bills facing forward. Members are responsible for advising their guests of the dress requirements.
DEFINING GOOD TASTE: Denim in good taste means the denim must be tasteful and in good repair with no holes, rips, tears, tatters or frays. No acid-washed denim is allowed. No baggy or sagging denim or slacks are allowed. T-shirts in good taste means the t-shirt fabric must be in good repair with no holes, rips, tears, tatters or frays. If the t-shirt has a design or message imprinted, the design/message must be tasteful. NO hand-written messages, pictures or inappropriate messages will be allowed. No visible undergarments or midriff should be showing.

June is upon us and Father’s Day is right around the corner! It’s hard to believe with the weather we’ve been having as it feels like it should still be March! We are currently tracking nine inches more rain year-to-date than last year at this same time and the current long-range forecast is … wet! Keep in mind the snow we dealt with early in 2019 was also significantly more than the snow received during the same period in 2018 — 19 inches more to be precise.
With all of that said, it is great to see everyone out on the course in between storms, getting in a few rounds of golf. We have a lot going on throughout the property as we anticipate a very busy June! Along with daily maintenance and a few projects, we’ll be prepping for The Whummle near the end of the month.
The week of June 3rd was scheduled for re-sodding damaged Zoysia fairways in isolated areas. Due to the challenging weather we’ve had, that project has been delayed until the week of June 24th. We appreciate your patience during this time as it’s been a long time coming to improve these damaged fairways. Let’s hope for a mild winter this year to avoid winter kill all together! On the next page you’ll see our off-path cart rules for 2019. Please adhere to these directions and it will help us mitigate any unnecessary damage to the course. We anticipate keeping carts on paths for holes 3, 18 and all par 3’s. It’s your course so whether it’s cart traffic control or fixing ball marks, please hold yourself and others accountable and work together to keep the course in the best possible condition. These simple guidelines will make such a difference. Thank you.
Lastly, you’ll notice that the Sunpatiens have been planted around the Club with one exception … behind the 16th hole. We elected to not plant this area now as we plan to enhance the site with a new grouping of azaleas and possibly other perennials. During the week of The Scotty, I had the opportunity to sit with a group of members one afternoon to discuss their concerns, answer questions and clarify issues. I enjoyed our time together and look forward to more opportunities for direct communication with members as I continue building relationships around the Club and get to know more of you. Q: Who is your mentor(s)? A: I have been fortunate to work for several great superintendents. Neil DeWerff, at Smoky Hill Country Club in my hometown of Hays, KS, was responsible for my start in golf course maintenance. Other notable superintendents who I learned a lot from include Nels Lindgren and Matt Bashara, both right here at Loch Lloyd. Q: Best advice you’ve been given? A: Mostly pertaining to my time as superintendent, I was told one of the most important things to know and do is have the ability to delegate. Hire good people and allow them to do their job. Q: How did you get into golf maintenance and where did you train? A: As I was making a career change many years ago, I got a job at my hometown country club on the maintenance crew. I fell in love and never looked back. I got my start as a summer employee at Smoky Hill Country Club in Hays, KS. Shortly after, I became assistant superintendent at Fort Hays Municipal Golf Course. I then decided to move to the KC area and got a full-time position at Loch Lloyd. Q: What is your dream vacation? A: Being an avid sports fan, I would say going to the NCAA final four, wherever it may be, and then directly to Augusta to watch the Masters, since it always takes place the week after the Final Four. Q: What is playing on your radio right now? A: Because it is hard to find a station that strictly plays music from the 80s and 90s, my radio is tuned to sports radio at all times. Q: What do you do away from work? A: If I’m not golfing, I am spending time with family and friends, most likely watching or attending a sporting event of some kind. Q: What’s your favorite thing about your job? A: I love working outdoors. I love the satisfaction of seeing the results of hard work with a well-manicured course early in the morning as the sun rises.
Q: Where is your favorite local hot spot to eat? A: Being in the BBQ capital of the world, I would say Joe’s of Kansas City or Jack Stack Barbecue would be my favorites. Q: Anything else you’d like to share? A. After working my way up to assistant superintendent in my 12½ years at Loch Lloyd, I got the opportunity to become superintendent at Painted Hills Golf Club in Kansas City, KS. I took on the challenge and enjoyed five years there. Recently I had the opportunity to meet Jeff Steen and discuss the possibility of returning to Loch Lloyd in an irrigation position. Because of my love of Loch Lloyd, the fact that I think it is such a special place, and the chance to be a part of the incredible team he was assembling, the decision to return was not a hard one to make.

Most people would agree that group fitness is motivating, holds us accountable, and can be entertaining. If you haven't tried working out with a group of like-minded golfers, you may want to consider Total Yo-Golf Conditioning. You’ll improve your dynamic flexibility, which is necessary for more range in your swing. You’ll build greater acceleration and force — and prevent early deceleration — of your club head, which can improve the distance of your drives. You’ll also build a more stable base, which helps you control your swing and leads to better consistency. These Group Fitness “Happy Hours” are designed with the golfer in mind, but anyone can benefit. Classes meet Tuesdays at 5:30p and Saturdays at 9:15a and consist of 30 minutes of Golf Conditioning and 30 minutes of Yoga. The fee for Elite Members is $200 for 20 sessions or $150 for 10 sessions. Welcome Special Guest CHRIS SIDA Chris Sida started working for Major Brands as a merchandiser and worked his way up through the ranks, helping to build a wine portfolio that was one of the best in the nation. He became the company’s wine director where he developed aggressive wine programs that would propel Major Brands to become one of the strongest wine companies in the state of Missouri.
As large companies started buying all the brands and consolidating wine and spirit portfolios, small wholesalers began to sell out to the larger ones. Ultimately, there were only two big wine wholesalers left standing. Chris saw the need to create a marketing/brokerage firm to help the smaller brands and he started CSM, Inc. Chris Sida with his wife, Jennifer, and their young daughter, Ava.
Chris helped build portfolios for Svedka Vodka, Sobieski Vodka, Schmitt Sohne Wines, Clos du Val wines, Jefferson Whiskey and Castle Brands. He also owns a wholesaler and has started to self distribute his own wines, Centered and Atom Wines. Chris moved to Kansas City three years ago and lives at The National with his wife, Jennifer, and their daughter, Ava. In honor of Pet Appreciation Week (June 2nd-8th), we welcome the Kansas City Pet Project to our meeting. Caring for 10,000+ animals per year, KCPP works to increase pet adoptions and focuses on lost pet reunions, identification and education. You’ll learn about the remarkable things they are doing to make our community a better place for pets and people, get a sneak peek at the new KC Campus for Animal Care and meet a few darling four -legged guests! If you’ve ever wondered how you can help, you’ll learn about volunteer opportunities, fostering, adopting, training practices, veterinary care and ways to contribute. We will have animals in our presence, so plan accordingly if you have allergies. Between now and our June program, the Home & Garden Club will conduct a charitable drive for the Kansas City Pet Project. Please see the list of items needed on the right. If you prefer to write a check, please make it out to KC Pet Project. They also welcome gift cards to Wal-Mart, office supply stores and home improvement stores. Bring your items to the June meeting or drop them off in the bin or mailbox at Michelle Illig’s house on the north side of Loch Lloyd at 16103 Spyglass Court. Not only does fishing give children the thrill and satisfaction of catching a fish, it teaches them life skills such as patience, independence and respect for their environment. It is also a chance to experience the outdoors and spend time with family and friends. SWIM MEET SCHEDULE (dates in blue are home meets) Swim meets take place at 5:30p on these Wednesdays: June 5th, June 12th, June 19th, June 26th and July 10th The Country Club at Loch Lloyd will host three of the five meets this year. Swimmers must participate in two meets to be eligible to swim in the SSA Swim Championship Meet. If a meet is canceled due to weather, notifications will be made by 4:30p on the day of the meet. Meets are automatically rescheduled for the next day (Thursday) at the same place and time and with the same volunteer responsibilities.

Bring a partner or come solo and we’ll match you up. If you have your own paddle, please bring it as the Club only has a limited number of paddles. Tennis shoes and comfy clothes are recommended.
The tennis courts are open for TENNIS and PICKLBALL daily. Please make your court reservations using the ForeTees mobile app or call Sarah at 816.322.1022 to reserve your court. The courts are lighted for evening play. Please stop by the Golf Shop if you need assistance with the ForeTees app.
