November has arrived and with that, the 2019 tournament season has come to an end. Thank you to all who participated in this year’s events and congratulations to all of the lucky and skilled competitors who took home victories. We are beginning to work through the 2020 event calendar and are sure to have a great variety of events for you to enjoy next season. While the colder weather is sure to set in soon, don’t hang up your golf clubs for the year! The golf course is in fantastic condition and there are sure to be many great fall days ahead of us. Tee times will now begin at 9a each day of the week in November and 10a in December. These starting tee times will remain in effect until April of 2020. Please check ForeTees for daily updates on the weather forecast to be advised of any potential frost delays or inclement weather. In preparation for colder weather, the ice/water machines will be removed from the comfort station and outside the Golf Shop until next spring. It’s official! At the time of the writing this note for the newsletter, we have officially broken the record for all-time precipitation. As you’ll see from the graphs and weather data on the next page, 2019 will go down in the record books as the wettest year since data started being collected. I believe I can speak on behalf of the entire maintenance team that we are hoping for a mild winter and back to normal rainfall for 2020! As another season comes close to an end, we are pleased at the current course conditions. The team has been working diligently to wrap up some final practices such as overseeding rough, topdressing programs, fall fertility and a few other applications on the greens to get them ready for any harsh conditions coming our way. I am very proud of all our associates for working tireless hours on and off the golf course! On October 22nd I had the chance to host a second “Town Hall” meeting with a group of members. Thank you to all who took the time to attend. I enjoyed the meeting very much and appreciated the openness of the group and some of the questions, concerns and comments. I felt the meeting was very positive and look forward to doing this on a more regular basis. Here’s a short recap of just a few of the topics discussed: Continued improvement to Sechrest and outlining the short-term and long-term goals Divot management on the Zoysia fairways and the need to backfill with sand Water management and the challenges of irrigation coverage with different grass types
and how this has a direct correlation to playability (for instance, soft approaches) Consistent conditions to the greens despite variables such as weather and outside events A look back at 2019 and taking a conservative approach to managing the golf course A new, up-and-coming team of associates, along with a small veteran team and the time it takes to condition and re-condition to meet and exceed standards Equipment fleet and maintenance facility Small projects such as pathways at #2 tee complex and stairs at #18 tee complex One-on-one meetings with me on the course or taking a “hot lap” to discuss on-site Trying to play more golf with members
Overall, it was a very good meeting and again, I thank the members who were able to attend. Moving forward, I’d like to try and get together on a quarterly basis and we can look at varying the times to try and accommodate as many members as possible. We officially ended the season on October 9th with yet another golf rainout! Although we were unable to play one last round, we were not discouraged. We gathered that evening for a final awards presentation and a fabulous dinner. Laurie Lind and Terri Thomas welcomed us with wonderful decorations, prizes and tee gifts. I wish to thank all of you who helped make a positive impact on our golf association this year, especially the 2019 LLLGA Officers and Committee Chairs. We are looking forward to next season! Originally from Albany, New York, Megan had her first serving and bartending job at a box car diner called “Quintessence” in 2000. She worked at college bars in downtown Albany, teaching herself about beer and wine along the way. Her hospitality career took her to New York City where she was lead bartender at restaurants including Blue Fin in Times Square, the iconic Public Theatre in the Astor Library and Blue Water Grill in Union Square where she studied under Eben Klemm and Laura Maniec. Megan obtained her Level One and Two Wine & Spirit Trust Certifications before relocating to the Kansas City area. Since her move in 2018, she has continued her food and beverage education and recently achieved her Level One Court of Master Sommelier Certification. Megan and her fiancé, Ryan, have two toddlers (River, age 4 and Nico, age 2). Megan is enjoying the collaboration with team members at the Club and is very excited to meet the members, be of the utmost service to all and to elevate the hospitality experience at The Country Club at Loch Lloyd.

Please plan to join us for an autumn luncheon and enjoy these two special guests: Lynn Bandyk is owner of Bella B, a family-owned business in South Overland Park with a focus on home decor, staging, DIY painting, design services, gifts, furniture, chalk paint, painting workshops and repurposing furniture and accessories. Lynn will be showing fall and Christmas decor and sharing fabulous decorating tips for the coming holiday season such as new trends, new ideas and new paint colors. You’ll also be able to do a little “retail therapy” as Lynn will bring some merchandise to sell after her presentation. The Loch Lloyd Home and Garden Club Conservation Committee celebrated the 2019 Nesting Box Trail Season with lunch at the Clubhouse. The group discussed the season’s highs and lows as well as surprises found in the nesting boxes this year. The nesting season runs from April through August. During this time, twoperson teams meet at the Golf Shop early each Monday morning to check and record activity in each of the 91 boxes on the trail.
