Dear Members, The golf course is beautiful, the air is fresh and crisp and the Chiefs are back! It’s a great time of year and I’m excited for the change of season.
Steve Shrawder Club President
This month has much to offer golfers, families, kids and … witches! We hope you’ll be able to join in the festivities at the Clubhouse for the events our creative Food & Beverage team has put together for you. All the details are included in this newsletter.
In addition to hosting some great member events, we’re honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month by donating $1 per glass or $3 per bottle of our featured Wine of the Month … a rosé, of course! Thank you for helping us help others. We hope you have the opportunity to visit us soon. The Terrace and Veranda look very inviting!

We would be honored if you joined us on Monday, November 11th for the 16th Annual Veterans Day Scramble at The National Golf Club. We celebrate this opportunity to pay tribute to the brave men and women who have served our country proudly throughout the years and those who are currently fighting for our freedom all over the world. National and Deuce members and their guests may sign up to participate in this time-honored event. We’ll pair two members or a member/ guest pair with two of our invited military guests. The cost for the event is $150+ per person and will include golf, carts, lunch, participant gifts and dinner. The fee helps the Club offset expenses and underwrite the costs for our invited military guests, who pay nothing to participate. If you are unable to play in the Scramble but would like to contribute to help underwrite the costs of this event, we would be most grateful for your support. Proceeds from the event will be donated to a charitable organization. If you would like to contribute, please email Nic Ingram at nicholasi@thenationalgolfclub.com with your donation amount and we’ll charge it to your member account. This year we’re also offering a limited number of seats for members who aren’t able to play in the event but who would like to attend the celebratory dinner. The charge for dinner is $40++ per person with your reservations made through the Concierge at 816.746.0200 or by email to: concierge@thenationalgolfclub.com. Please mark your calendar for this moving and ceremonial event! If you would like to register, please contact Nic Ingram, Director of Golf at 816.741.0634 or nicholasi@thenationalgolfclub.com.

Gary Sailer, CGCS Director of Golf Course Maintenance Director
Dear Members, It’s been a very eventful first month on the job for me, but I am enjoying my time here at The Deuce Golf Club and looking forward to the future. October is one of my favorite months of the year. Cooler weather and colorful trees are the biggest reason after a long summer. It is also a month when the Zoysia grass starts to go dormant on the tees and fairways. We will let them grow out an inch or two as a protective measure against the cold weather that lies ahead. The cool-season grasses start to slow down a bit as well. This is a very good month to replace cool-season sod in the rough. We will focus on high-traffic areas and locations where seed is not a viable option. The curb project on #14 is finished and working out very well (see photos of the project below). This will divert water away from the fairway and directly toward the creek at the bottom of the hill. The result should improve the turf grass in the rough and fairway and make the hole safer. Please obey the signs for this hole and remain on the cart path only. Thank you for your cooperation. As this month goes on, leaf removal will also be a priority. We will process the leaves as we mow roughs, but we will also blow them off play areas with blowers. Have a great October and a Happy Halloween! Regards, Gary Sailer, CGCS Director of Golf Course Maintenance

With the changing of the seasons comes another change for our Club. Executive Director of Food & Beverage, John Geiger, is leaving the FiveStar family. Over the past several years, John has made significant improvements to our Club’s service, procedures, training and menus. We would like to thank John for his leadership and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.

Meet Wine Expert Tiffany Frazier Regional Sales Manager When Tiffany Frazier was offered her position at Silver Oak and Twomey, she had to take a deep breath. “It was true elation and one of the best moments of my life." Afterward as she was sitting outside by the winery garden, she still had to pinch herself. “Knowing that I was going to be part of this historic winery and family – the feeling was indescribable." With experience in the wine industry that stretches back 14 years, Tiffany is particularly grateful to work for a familyowned winery. “The positive energy and true happiness is palpable as soon as you walk through the historic doors of the winery."
