The Strong Woman's Guide to Lasting Fat

Real results come from doing the simple things well

For more than ten years I've worked as an online fitness coach for women, helping over 500 of them lose fat, build real strength, and finally feel at home in their own bodies. I've coached complete beginners, busy moms, shift workers, brides, and women navigating hormones and menopause.

I've also lived this myself, having gone through my own 60-pound transformation, so I understand the journey from both sides of the coaching relationship. I'm a certified female personal trainer, a HYROX ambassador, and a contributor to STRONG Fitness Magazine and Status Fitness Magazine, and I coach women across Canada entirely online. You can read more about how I got here on my story page.

I put this guide together to hand you the core of what I teach my clients, in a form you can start using today. No hype, no crash diets, just the approach that keeps working for the women I coach. Along the way I'll point you toward free articles and resources on my website so you can go deeper on any topic that speaks to you.

WHERE WOMEN GET STUCK

Why fat loss feels harder than it should

Most women I meet are not lazy and are not doing nothing. They are often doing too much of the wrong things: cutting calories far too low, grinding through endless cardio, and skipping the strength work that actually reshapes the body. That combination burns you out, stalls your metabolism, and leaves you smaller but not stronger.

The women who get lasting results tend to do the opposite. They eat enough to fuel their training, they lift weights a few times a week, and they stay consistent long enough for it to pay off. That is the whole game, and the rest of this guide breaks down exactly how to play it.

TRAINING · PART 1

Lift weights, and lift them properly

The single biggest shift I make for most new clients is getting them to lift weights. Strength training is what builds the lean, toned shape most women are after, and it protects your muscle while you lose fat, so the body you end up with looks and feels the way you pictured.

A common worry is that lifting heavier will make you bulky. It will not. Building noticeable muscle takes years of dedicated effort, and for most women heavier weights simply mean a firmer, more defined body. I break this down fully in my article on whether women should lift heavy or light weights, which is worth reading before your next session.

You do not need a full gym either. A set of dumbbells at home is plenty to start with. My complete full body workout for women walks you through a beginner-friendly routine, and when you are ready to focus on specific areas, I have guides for a stronger upper body and a leg day built for glutes and legs.

TRAINING · PART 2

How often to train, and how to structure your week

For most women, lifting three to four times a week is the sweet spot. It is enough to drive real change without taking over your life, and it leaves room to recover. You can train your full body each session, then split into upper and lower days as you get stronger and want more volume.

Add some easy movement on your off days, a walk, a live class, or a bit of cardio you actually enjoy, and you have a balanced, sustainable week. I also run live workout classes for women where I coach you through a full session in real time, which is a lovely way to stay accountable and learn proper form from the comfort of home.

QUICK WIN

Pick two lower-body and two upper-body dumbbell exercises, do 3 sets of 10 each, three times this week. That single habit, repeated, is where nearly every transformation begins.

NUTRITION

Eat enough, and eat with a plan

Nutrition is where most of the frustration lives, so let me simplify it for you. You do not need to eat as little as humanly possible. You need to eat enough protein, enough whole foods, and enough total food to fuel the training that is changing your body.

Protein comes first. It keeps you full, protects your muscle, and supports recovery between sessions. Build every meal around a protein source, add plenty of vegetables and some quality carbs, and you are most of the way there. For the moments between meals, my list of healthy snacks for women that support weight loss will keep you satisfied without derailing your day.

When you want a plan built specifically around your body, your schedule, and the foods you love, that is exactly what my one-on-one nutrition coaching for women is for. Together we let go of the restrictive diet mindset and build eating habits you can actually keep for good.

YOUR SEASON OF LIFE

Your body, your stage, your plan

No two women start from the same place, and your plan should reflect that. What worked in your twenties may not serve you now, and that is completely normal.

New moms need a gentler on-ramp. After a baby, your body, energy, and schedule all change at once, and rushing back into an intense plan usually backfires. My postpartum weight loss coaching is built to rebuild your strength safely while fitting around life with a newborn.

Hormones shift as we get older too, and that does not put fat loss out of reach. It simply means your food and training need to adapt with you. I walk through exactly how to eat for this stage in my guide to the best foods for menopause weight loss

Consistency beats intensity, every single time

The women who transform their bodies are not the ones who train the hardest for two weeks and then vanish. They are the ones who show up at a pace they can sustain, month after month, until the results become undeniable. Progress comes from repeating good habits long enough for them to compound.

This is the part where a coach makes the biggest difference. Having someone to build your plan, adjust it when real life happens, and hold you gently accountable is often what turns a good intention into a genuine result. That support is the heart of my Shred Program and my weight loss coaching for women, where you get a personalized plan and direct access to me the whole way through.
