The park was enclosed with an 8 mile long brick wall in 1637. Most of the wall that still encloses Richmond park is the original. THE WORLD’S LARGEST SNOW GLOBE DAZZLES LONDON’S COVENT GARDEN PIAZZA

K’s master LEGO artist Duncan Titmarsh, credited for building the world’s tallest LEGO Christmas tree and the massive LEGO advent calendar that awed everybody last year, has come up with the world’s largest LEGO snow globe in London this year just before the festive season kicks-off.

The giant-sized snow globe features LEGO sculptures of 14 iconic London buildings, fitted with LED lights includes Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Big Ben, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Covent Garden Market Building. The tallest building in the LEGO Snow Globe is The Shard at two metres. Standing over three metres tall, it took six people 75 days, and 120,000 LEGO bricks to build the Snow Globe and will be on display throughout the Christmas period at Covent Garden. The miniature London skyline is encased inside an inflatable plastic dome spangled with glittering fake snow. Covent Garden is London’s most magical destination this Christmas. From the shimmering 60ft tree and 15ft topiary reindeer watching over the festivities, to the larger-than-life baubles and thousands of twinkling pea lights adorning the Market Building and side streets, the world famous Piazza will be brimming with festive cheer to mark the holiday season. A firm family favourite, live reindeer petting will return to the West Piazza every Saturday until 21st December from 12-4pm, providing the chance to hand feed Santa’s helpers for the perfect Christmas photo moment. A visit to Covent Garden is a must, whether you intend to shop, or soak up the atmosphere watching the street entertainers. The focal point of Covent Garden, the market, has dominated the area ever since the Middle Ages. There is also an open-air cobbled area where miming and juggling acts can often be found. Classical music and opera singing often fills the air - not from the Royal Opera House but from street performers who often stage impromptu concerts in the courtyards below street level. Covent Garden is a mecca for shoppers - high Street outlets include Marks & Spencer, Oasis, French Connection, Next and Monsoon, with menswear at Diesel, Replay, Oakley and Paul Smith. Neal Street, which runs to the north west of the Piazza, has more in the way of urbanwear including as well as trendy trainer shops including Office and Size? as well as the Natural Shoe Store and Terra Plana ‘ethical shoes’. If (perish the thought!) you tire of clothes shopping there are scores of excellent places to stop off for a coffee.

Knightsbridge is one of the most unchanged, attractive areas of Central London, with little in the way of offices nearby but plenty of shops and restaurants to serve the needs of local residents. There are plenty of ways to spend money in this beguiling corner of the capital. Harrods is the most famous of the local stores, a huge tourist attraction employing over 3,000 staff in more than 300 departments. Some much prefer Harvey Nichols, a chicer alternative with three floors of designer wear, a huge beauty department and delectable delicacies on the fifth floor, all at extremely high prices. Knightsbridge is everything you would suspect of London’s poshest neighbourhood. Designer boutiques, five star hotels and expensive restaurants compete for space, however unbelievably it is possible to find the odd cosy pub randomly tucked away from the main thoroughfares. It is also a great place to people watch, from the wannabe IT girls to the hapless rich men trying to entice them.

The name Carnaby Street is synonymous with 1960s Swinging London’ - a phrase coined by Time magazine. Nowadays, the area has gone through something of a revival and is once again boasting cutting edge designer talents and trendy stores. With over 140 shops, bars and restaurants to choose from in the area, it’s definitely worth a visit. Shoppers will find rich pickings at urban streetwear shops like Replay, Diesel, Howies, American Apparel and Puma. There are also a number of streets in the immediate area around Carnaby Street - notably Newburgh Street which runs parallel, Foubert’s Place, and Kingly Court which has three floors of one-off ‘concept’ shops, cafes and restaurants set around an open courtyard. Carnaby Street is a fantastic place to buy sports, urban footwear, but there’s also a number of fine cosmetics shops - seek out the Cowshed and MAC Cosmetics - as well as a few boutiques selling vintage mod clothing. Altogether very stylish.

The area was made famous by a lively local scene during the ‘Swinging 60s’ and punk fuelled seventies. The doyenne of punk fashion, Vivienne Westwood, still runs her first ever store at the so-called ‘World’s End’ end of The King’s Road. Although the area has none of the character of that time, it is still full of famous faces and is one of the best and most varied places to shop and eat in London. Doctor Who proves timeless as Tardis touches down at Bonhams

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the classic series, Doctor Who, Bonhams Knightsbridge will include pieces from each decade of the show’s history at its forthcoming Entertainment Memorabilia sale on 18th December.

eroes and villains from the long running series will be represented including a Dalek, a Cyberman suit and the Yeti amongst others, as well as props used by The Doctor. Scripts, drawings and costumes will also be offered, including a number of lead character costumes from the BBC archive used on spin-off series Torchwood. Stephanie Connell Head of Bonhams Entertainment Memorabilia Department said, “We are delighted to be offering such a range of pieces from the 50 year history of the series, many of which are previously unseen. The sale recognises our relationship with the Doctor Who series and the fans of the show.”

Other highlights include a selection of items from the recently rediscovered Patrick Troughton era episode, The Web of Fear. A set of five Rehearsal Scripts for Doctor Who and the Web of Fear from the collection of episode writer Henry Lincoln, each signed by the author, are offered with an estimate of £2,500-£3,500. Filmed episodes of Doctor Who and the Web of Fear were thought lost until their recent discovery in a TV Station in Africa. The set of 30 DECEMBER2013

five scripts to be sold on 18th December include the script for the still missing episode three of the series. As well as the personal script archive of writer Henry Lincoln, the sale will include memorabilia relating to episodes written by him, including The Abominable Snowmen and The Web of Fear. Two extremely rare original Yeti homing device props from the 1968 serial The Web of Fear are offered for sale. Each figure stands 11.5cm high and carries an estimate of £2,000-£3,000. The Yeti were created by scriptwriter Henry Lincon and first featured in The Abominable Snowmen. After Lincoln’s departure as writer for the programme, the Yeti were never to appear again. Props and monsters from Tom Baker era will also be offered such as a 1978 Taran Wood Beast monster costume from, Doctor Who: The Androids of Tara (estimates £1,500£2,000). The enormous body suit of synthetic fur is complete with clawed hands, scaled face and protruding eyes and teeth, set on a head measuring half a meter in diameter. A Cyberman costume from 1988 episode Doctor Who: Silver Nemesis consisting of silver painted body suit, moulded chest pieces, laser gun and gloves is estimated at £1,000£1,500. The Cybermen were the most persistent of The Doctor’s enemies. They originated from Earth’s twin planet but had extended their lives with artificial implants and become coldly logical, emotionless beings. Also appearing in the sale is the original dove pan magic trick prop from The Talons of Weng-Chiang, 1977 staring Tom Baker as Doctor Who. The prop is from the estate of Larry Barnes, magic advisor for Doctor Who. It is estimated to sell for £700-£900.

One of the sale highlights is a Destroyed Dalek, believed to have appeared in Remembrance of the Daleks, which is offered for sale with estimates of £4,500 - £5,000. An iconic part of British popular culture, the Dalek appears in the Oxford English dictionary, has featured on postage stamps and was voted the all-time greatest monster by leading science fiction magazines. Made from wood, fibreglass, metal, plastic and foam, the Dalek prop stands at over 1 metre in height. This model is believed to be the very one blown up in the episode and later to appear in the office of villain, Mr. Rattcliffe.

& SAATCHI ONLINE The Griffin Gallery continues to provide a platform for contemporary artists with its latest exhibition showcasing the finalists of a Saatchi Online Showdown. Nick Evans visited the exhibition, ‘Painted Faces Showdown’ and spoke to Rebecca Pelly-Fry, Director of the Griffin Gallery, the first gallery to host a full showdown shortlist.

PAINTED FACES SHOWDOWN Painted Faces Showdown, which runs at the Griffin Gallery until 20th December, highlights the best in emerging contemporary portraiture. This is the first Saatchi Showdown to be exhibited in partnership with Winsor & Newton, who have been making the finest art materials since the company was founded in 1832. Showdown is a competition hosted by Saatchi Online for artists all over the world to showcase their work to a judging panel of internationally acclaimed artists and curators. The public is then given the chance to purchase the works. Whilst all sales of the Painted Faces Showdown will go through Saatchi Online, buyers can register their interest at the Griffin Gallery during the exhibition. Rebecca Wilson, Director of the Saatchi Gallery and Chief Curator of Saatchi Online and Rebecca Pelly-Fry, Director of the Griffin Gallery selected 30 semi-finalists from a longlist of 300 artists chosen by the Saatchi Online community of artists and curators. This year’s celebrity judge, who selected the winner, Miguel Laino, the runner-up, Chris Stevens, and the other eight finalists, whose work is on display at the Griffin Gallery, was Saatchi Gallery exhibitor and 42 DECEMBER2013

internationally renowned artist, Chantal Joffe. She joins the list of previous Saatchi Showdown judges, which includes esteemed artists Barnaby Furnas, Ged Quinn, Wangechi Mutu, Peter Coffin, Dexter Dalwood and Matthias Weischer. “I have been impressed with the very high quality of work, submitted from all over the world,” said Griffin Gallery Director, Rebecca Pelly-Fry, one of the long list judges. “The ten finalists, selected by internationally respected figurative artist, Chantal Joffe, reflect the range of contemporary styles and concerns of artists around the world today, and collectively create a strong and diverse group exhibition. elebrate New Year’s Eve and welcome 2014 with a bang at the London New Year’s Eve 2013 Fireworks, a free event presented by Mayor of London. Each year around 250,000 people come and watch the exciting fireworks display on the banks of the Thames. The night skies will be a blaze of light and colour at midnight on New Year’s Eve with a display of stunning pyrotechnics from the EDF Energy London Eye on the famous South Bank. As the clock strikes 12, Big Ben’s famous ‘bongs’ will be relayed across the viewing areas, before the UK’s biggest annual fireworks display takes place to a specially created musical soundtrack. Once the fireworks come to an end, join together with friends and strangers alike for a rendition of Auld Lang Syne. The celebrations carry on until 12:45am with a live DJ set. Stay to the end and you’ll find it easier getting out of the viewing areas for your journey home. Very large crowds are expected on the night with limited viewing areas, so if you’d rather watch the spectacular from the comfort of your own home the fireworks will be shown live on BBC 1. Lots of pubs and clubs are also ticketed entry on the night, so if you haven’t booked in advance it may be hard to find somewhere to enjoy the evening. Before deciding to head out, consider how long you are prepared to stand outside waiting for the display to start, especially in the cold, and then how long it will take to get home. Travel is free on all TfL journeys from 11:45pm on New Year’s Eve until 4:30am on New Year’s Day this includes bus, tube, tram, DLR and London Overground services. There will be major changes to regular tube and train services and you may have to use different routes or station entrances with specific queuing arrangements. Do plan your journey both to and from the event and follow directions from stewards, police or rail and underground staff on the night.

RICHMOND PARK

ichmond Park was originally a deer-hunting park, and still has 300 red deer and 350 fallow deer. When Charles I moved his court to Richmond Palace (no longer standing) to avoid the plague in London, in 1625, he turned his manor into a deer park with herds of fallow and red deer. The park was enclosed with an 8 mile long brick wall in 1637. Most of the wall that still encloses Richmond park is the original.

The Royal deer have been maintained in Richmond ever since. The deer have played a major role in the Park’s history and have shaped the landscape too. Their special grassland habitat depends on grazing and the parkland trees have a distinctive ‘browse line’ as the deer eat all the leaves and twigs growing below about 1.5 metres. Deer grazing also prevents tree seedlings from growing, keeping the grassland open. For young trees

to survive they need to be protected against damage from deer antlers for some 50 years. During the autumn the deer ‘rut’ (breeding season) takes place. The red stags and fallow bucks compete for females (known as hinds and does respectively). At this time, the large males roar, bark and clash antlers in a spectacular way in an attempt to fight off rivals and to attract as many females as possible. The young are born mainly in June, and are hidden by their mothers amongst the bracken and long grass. Females and their young are very vulnerable and sensitive to disturbance at this time Herds of red and fallow deer roam freely within much of the park. The herds are culled in November to keep numbers manageable and the park population healthy. The British Deer Society and the Deer Initiative of England and Wales, who are regarded as the main welfare organizations dealing with the welfare and management of deer nationally, recognise that parkland deer numbers must be managed and that removal of some of the deer is necessary each year to keep populations at acceptable levels. The keeping of deer in enclosed English parkland has a long heritage. Although many ancient parks were originally maintained for hunting purposes, in recent times it is recognised that the deer herds of the Royal Parks in London are an integral part of the parks’ ecosystem, as well as being a valuable amenity and educational feature. These parkland deer are wild animals, which are not regularly shepherded or handled; they are left to breed normally and to establish normal social behaviour. All deer parks have a maximum capacity of deer numbers, which must not be exceeded to avoid problems of disease and damage to

the natural environment (the complex ecosystems for which Richmond Park is notified as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, National Nature Reserve and a European Special Area of Conservation, being of particular importance). The deer are wild animals, so never try to touch or feed them. Always keep a respectful distance, especially if you have a dog. As well as deer, a range of other mammals lives in the park, though they may not be as obvious. These include Fox, Rabbit, Shrew, Mice and Vole. Th ere are recent records of at least nine species including all 3 species of Pipistrelle, Noctule, Serotine, Brown Long-eared and Daubenton’s bats. OVERSEAS PROPERTY HOTSPOTS BRAZIL The 2016 Olympics and the FIFA World Cup in 2014 are prompting a frenzy of building and regeneration in Rio. Brazil’s property prices rose by 23.% in 2011, according to Knight Frank, buoyed by foreign investors and a fastgrowing Brazilian middle class who have access to mortgages for the first time. Prices of beachfront flats in Ipanema and Leblon are now up there with prime London or Paris. But outside of Rio plots for modern villas can be found from £31,600. Since the mid-noughties boom began, Natal in Brazil’s north-east has caught the attention of overseas buyers – particularly those who fancy a beachfront holiday home they can use themselves. For those who wish to purely make an investment, the country’s Minha Casa Minha Vida (My house, My life) social housing scheme – which aims to build 3m properties in Brazil by the end of next year – looks set for attractive returns. THAILAND Thailand’s economy is one of the fastest-growing in Asia and, with 22 million overseas visitors in 2012 alone, tourism is booming. It’s property market is still emerging, but there is significant overseas interest, as the Thai Government is easing restrictions for foreign ownership. “The construction standards are far higher than other emerging markets considered for investment, such as Egypt or Brazil,” said Luke Smith, managing director of Crystal Investments and Real Estate. And property is still low-priced in Pattaya, in the less developed East Thailand - a 12-hour flight from the UK and a three-hour drive from Bangkok. “It’s the nearest coastal town to Bangkok, it offers the best value for money and we’re finding great interest from Russia, India and China. Pattaya has a spent a lot of money on infrastructure, which is pushing prices up,” commented Samantha Jones of Knight Knox. “A typical completed studio will sell for £30,000, but investors who are prepared to take the risk can pick up a unit off –plan for £15,000,” she added. Jones recommends investors buy a property with full, freehold title. “It’s the easiest and cleanest way to buy and 49% of condos on any developments can be owned in this way by foreign nationals, ” she said. MUMBAI South Mumbai is the southern-most precinct of the city of Mumbai and is the main business centre. It is the richest urban precinct in India, and houses most of the city’s elite. The area is on the east by Mumbai harbour and on the west by the Arabian Sea. Consulates, museums and old theatres are located in South Mumbai. As a ratio to average per capita income, real estate prices in the business districts remain the most expensive in the world. South Mumbai is also the home to several of the city’s sporting grounds, including Brabourne Stadium, Wankhede.

As everyone who’s holidayed in Spain will know, there’s so much more to Spanish cuisine than you see in UK supermarkets and tapas menus. So we formulated a service that would introduce people to new tastes and flavours from around Spain, without them having to spend hours researching and sourcing individual products. And that’s how we arrived at our concept – a place where you’ll find your favourite foods, as well as all manner of tasty goodies and scrumptious delicacies.… a foodies’ larder no less! Q. HOW DOES THE SCHEME WORK? Subscribers receive a fresh selection of gourmet Spanish food and ingredients every month – each different from the last, and each based on the season. There’s always something new to try and we provide a menu card with each delivery as well as publishing recipes on our site, with suggestions on how to use the ingredients. he SydElite Athlete Support Programme is designed to help talented young athletes attending the school, who compete at district, national or even international level, to better manage their sport/work/life balance and maximise their potential both academically and in their sport.

Trust your instincts, be sure to have a good support team around you and be relentless in your work ethic to reach your goals.”

If the cat gets to the turkey resting on the side (which is what happened in my family one Christmas) take it for what it is... ‘not the end of the world.’ It also gives you something to talk about the following Christmas!

In addition to the seasonal flu vaccine there are several measures you can take to reduce the frequency and severity of cold and flu symptoms. Firstly there are effective practical measures to avoid spreading bugs like using tissues when you cough or sneeze, binning used tissues and thorough hand washing (or using hand gels). Nutrition and general fitness play an important role in immunity. Having a healthy diet and taking regular exercise to enhance the immune system should definitely be encouraged. If your diet needs a boost over-the-counter vitamin and mineral supplements could enhance your body’s ability to fight off infections and reduce the intensity and duration of symptoms. In essence, flu vaccination should be viewed as another layer to help fight against flu and cold bugs but is not a substitute for healthy living.

Genetic Testing and Breast Cancer Family History The Angelina Jolie Effect

he recent publicity surrounding Angelina Jolieâ€™s decision to talk about her family history, her decision to have genetic testing and the prophylactic surgery she has had, has raised awareness of the potential benefits of analysing the breast cancer genes to give more accurate information on an individualâ€™s personal risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. However several key clinical issues require clarification. Traditionally genetic testing has been offered to families in which there is a strong family history with several closely related individuals in a particular family having developed cancer. We know that different cancer types can occur in families; a well-known pattern is breast cancer and ovarian cancer occurring in the same family; another well recognised pattern is bowel cancer and womb cancer. Testing for the breast and ovarian cancer genes (BRCA1 and BRCA2) follows a two stage clinical process. In the first stage we take a blood sample from a lady in the family who has developed either breast or ovarian cancer, and then analyse the complete sequence of her BRCA1 and BRCA 2 genes. These genes are made up of the letters C, G, A and T arranged in a long and unique sequence. The BRCA1 gene is made up of 100,000 letters arranged in sequence, and a faulty gene is caused by a very subtle change in the sequence, often consisting of a single spelling mistake, which can be found anywhere in the entire sequence. Only if we manage to identify a spelling mistake in the blood sample of the individual with breast or ovarian cancer can we then move on to the second stage of the process, and determine whether a well relative in that same family has inherited the same spelling mistake. If she does not have that specific spelling mistake then she has inherited the good copy of the gene, and has the same risk of developing breast or ovarian cancer as anyone else of her age in the general population. We follow a similar two stage process in families with a strong history of bowel cancer, but look at the sequence of a different set of genes; those we know are involved in inherited bowel cancer. However we often see families with a strong history of breast and ovarian cancer, in which we cannot identify a fault in either BRCA1 or BRCA2. Recently a new test has been introduced into the UK private sector by Myriad Genetics Inc, which examines the sequence of 25 genes from a single blood sample, thus allowing a much wider range of genes to be examined in any family. The early results (from 40,000 samples tested) suggest that we are able to identify faulty genes in many more families, allowing us to give a much more accurate estimate of an individualâ€™s risk of developing different types of cancer, and therefore encouraging more targeted screening strategies. It is now even more important than before to ensure that everyone offered genetic testing is given accurate and understandable information about their own individual risk, and the clinical implications of the genetic test results for them. What Ho for a Christmas Wassail

One of the Christmas Season traditions closely linked to collectable antiques is the Wassail and its Bowl.

t is known that the greeting ‘wassail’ is derived from many early Northern European languages and, however it is spelt, it roughly translates as “Good Health”.

But the Wassail is more than just a toast; it is a mixed drink containing a fair plug of alcohol, usually cider, as well as the celebration of quaffing it with a gathering of friends. This is called The Wassail in the Hall – on some occasions you all drink out of the same large bowl so its best to choose your friends carefully! There is also the Wassail performed by strolling groups going from house to house, and the even more ancient custom of visiting the orchard to toast the health of the trees and bless the fruit; the Apple Wassail. The large Wassail Bowl has for centuries been made of one timber in particular, lignum vitae. Nicknamed iron wood it is the heartwood of species of the genus Guaiacum and has a specific gravity of between 1.28 and 1.37, so it will not float in water.

Genuine antique turned wood items of any type, particularly large bowls and cups will not be truly circular, for the timber will have shrunk and twisted slightly, but it is this very unevenness that gives such pieces their character and creates their appeal to the collector. Some of the finest examples can be seen in the Victoria and Albert Museum in Kensington and if you are interested in learning more there are several excellent reference books under the heading of “Treen”. The surface of a two or three hundred year old Wassail Bowl will be soft to the touch and shiny as bronze, and believe me, a sup of Wassail from one this year will make your Christmas special. CHELSEA FABRICS Chelsea Fabrics was established twenty years ago as producers and wholesale suppliers of Curtain and Upholstery fabrics.

t that time the most popular fabrics were printed designs and the Company sold its own exclusive designs not only to numerous shops and stores in the UK but exported to markets as diverse as Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the UAE and Scandinavia amongst many others.

About three years later, the company set up a showroom in Fulham, West London, which included a retail department named The Curtain Fabric Factory, to sell its discontinued designs direct to the public at greatly discounted prices. Over the next decade, demand for prints diminished and plains and textures almost entirely took over the market. Such was the demand for discounted fabrics in the retail shop, that more emphasis was placed in that area and the offer was greatly expanded. There are dozens of different types of plains and semi plains, ranging from pure silks to velvets, traditional florals to the latest themes in abstracts, jacquards, embroideries, satins, designs with horses, designs with maps, butterflies, flowers of every description, trees, animal skins, the list is virtually endless. And for clients who cant find their perfect choice in stock, there are thousands of samples from the Worlds leading Mills to browse through. The only criticism and one often repeated, is that the choice is too large ! But to help with this expert staff are on hand to advise with a no pressure, one to one service. Today, breaking the day into precise intervals is crucial for the operation of a modern society. Being able to tell the time is taken for granted in the 21st century, but clocks can be so much more than a cold, automated machine. This is where antique clocks come into their own – where a combination of mechanical and aesthetic can create a piece of art. Walking into Gütlin on the King’s Road, Chelsea, the gentle tick-tock of the many timepieces brings reassurance and peace. Housed in what was previously an art gallery, Gütlin is brimful from wall to wall with gold, silver and fine wood classic timepieces – from a rare Glashutte Second World War Luftwaffe pilots’ wristwatch to a 1720 William Barrow grandfather clock. The owners of Gütlin, horologists John and Mark Coxhead – a father and son team, have a passion for collecting, dealing and restoring top timepieces. Established nearly 20 years ago, they are located in an area world renowned for fine antique shops and art galleries. Only dealing in quality clocks of the 18th and 19th centuries, and some from the 20th century, Gütlin’s speciality is French mantle and longcase clocks in mahogany, walnut and oak. However, it caters for all tastes and styles, with watches from the 1920s to 1960s, and gold, silver, carriage, bracket and novelty clocks. It also has a small range of barometers and boulle side cabinets. EXCLUSIVITY Starting small, buying from auctions and exhibiting at fairs, Gütlin soon built a comprehensive collection and name for themselves. ‘Not only did we sell well, but we bought well too,’ says John. ‘We’d come home with money in our

pockets and a new set of clocks to restore, which was very gratifying.’ Mark says: ‘We’re engineers, with a great understanding of antique clocks, how they operate and what their values are. We are both passionate and enthusiastic about the world of clocks and want to be able to provide fine decorative items for people’s homes.’ Gütlin also specialises in Jaeger LeCoultre Atmos clocks from the 1950s to present day. A Swiss clock that uses changes in atmospheric temperature and pressure to wind itself, the power consumed by a 15 watt light bulb could run over 60 million Atmos clocks at the same time. One of the most difficult clocks a repairer will encounter, Gütlin is fully prepared to return them to the highest of operational standards. ‘They’re something that is unusual and different; made to the highest order in a period when quality counted,’ says Mark. STANDARDS There is nothing clock wise that Gütlin will not repair. Using specialist, modern tools, it is prepared for all eventualities. ‘The tools we use mean we can do better work and do it quicker,’ says Mark. Celebrities and royalty are no strangers to Gütlin. The late Princess Margaret bought a clock as a present for a friend, and various highpowered people from the music industry have passed through its doors. It services all the Home Office, Household Cavalry and Ministry of Defence clocks. Interior designers are also great fans of Gütlin’s offerings, returning time and time again. Auctions start at 12 noon on Tuesdays and generally run through an amazing 120+ lots per hour, sometimes up to 3 per minute. Attention is required as you may have waited quite some time for your lot to come up. Monitors (behind the auctioneer and in reception) along with the speaker system show the current lot with a picture and the printed catalogues detail everything you need to know.
