unveils mythical creatures in new magical forest experience

magical forest experience has been unveiled as Legoland Windsor’s latest attraction. Visitors to the Berkshire theme park will be able to see models of mythical creatures such as a crystal claw crab and baby lava dragons. More than 80,000 Lego bricks were used to build the fantastical creatures. They will be brought to life through an augmented reality (AR) system, creating an immersive experience within the resort’s Lego Mythica section, which opened in May last year. Visitors will be guided through the mysterious woodland by the characters Bits & Bobs. he Ivy Royal Windsor Brasserie opened its doors on Tuesday, 31 May, with reservations now live. In celebration of the opening, The Ivy Royal Windsor Brasserie enlisted its very own Ivy band who took to the streets of the beautiful and historic market town of Windsor. Situated at 31 High Street, The Ivy Royal Windsor Brasserie is honoured to be located opposite one of the country’s most famous landmarks, Windsor Castle. The largest and oldest inhabited castle in the world, it was constructed in 1070 AD by William the Conqueror and has a rich tapestry of history, filled with heroic knights, royal princesses and more, making Windsor an idyllic setting for one of the newest additions to The Ivy Collection. The Ivy Royal Windsor Brasserie will serve modern British classics from dawn until dusk, including breakfast, coffees, weekend brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and cocktails. The brasserie’s extensive menus will incorporate a selection of classic, seasonal dishes including crispy duck salad with five spice dressing, toasted cashews, watermelon, beansprouts, sesame seeds, coriander and ginger, The Ivy shepherd’s pie, and salmon and smoked haddock fish cake with crushed pea and herb sauce and a soft poached hen’s egg. For those with a sweet tooth the brasserie’s dessert will be fit for a king, with

creations including the much-loved crème brûlée, apple tart fine, and chocolate bombe, a royal blend of melting chocolate with a vanilla ice cream, honeycomb centre and hot salted caramel sauce. In celebration of this year’s Platinum Jubilee festivies, the brasserie will be adding a number of limited-edition cocktails to its already extensive menu. Cocktails will include Queen Victoria (£10.75), a smooth mix of Tanqueray 10, Vanilla Syrup, Lavender Syrup, Crème de Mure and Lemon Juice, while Lilibet (£13.50) features Tanqueray 10, Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto, Lemon Juice and Honey Syrup, topped with The Ivy Champagne for a true royal touch. The critically-acclaimed Martin Brudnizki Design Studio is consulting on the brasserie’s interiors, as with The Ivy Collection’s sister sites. ith live music, the much-missed dog show, fun sideshows and tempting food and drink, the annual Princess Alice Hospice Summer Fete returns on Sunday 3 July. This year the event will include a performance by The Voice Kids’ 2017 contestant, Leah Jewel, a Bollywood dancing display, a doggy photo booth and much more besides. Held in the beautiful landscaped grounds of the Hospice on West End Lane, Esher it’s a fantastic event for people of all ages, promising something for everyone. As well as the relaxed and friendly atmosphere for visitors, the fete also raises vital funds for the Hospice. The event is always popular with the wider local community, so come along and see for yourself! It runs from 11am to 3pm, so there’s 36 JUNE 2022

plenty of time to enjoy lunch and a walk in the beautiful gardens. THE ROSE FESTIVAL Sat 11 Jun – Fri 22 Jul Roses hold a special place in the history of Polesden Lacey. The walled garden holds 35 varieties of Hybrid Tea, Floribunda and Hybrid Musk. While over 100 white Rambling Rector roses climb all over the pergola. Our annual Rose Festival celebrates this beautiful flower, with floral displays throughout the house, café and gift shop. There will also be an installation of beautifully conceived metal roses on the West Lawn, created by the talented team at the Camelia Botnar Foundation. These roses will be for sale, so if you’re quick you can reserve one for when the festival ends. All proceeds will go towards the work carried out by the foundation in helping disadvantaged young people learn a skilled trade. The current climate of “non-surgical” procedures

t’s a weird and wonderful world; no doubt. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I shall simply say, one (wo)man’s heavenly lips is another’s hellish nightmare. We’ve all seen celebrities be over injected to be dissolved, to sometimes be over injected again. It’s a very difficult line to walk, especially in the public eye, with judgement all around and that magical elixir to topple the aging process, yet to be discovered. To what extent do we want to freeze aging altogether though? There’s a beauty in letting some things go but also a strength in maintaining your sense of self and sense of confidence in what you can achieve. There are some people who’ve just got it as they ascend through life. Gillian Anderson would be one example; Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds would be two more. Do they have “work”? I couldn’t possibly comment. However, if I said, more people do than don’t, perhaps I could answer that question indirectly. To state the obvious, it’s how that work is done that counts for everything. Maintaining the essence of the individual, both at rest and on animation, is vital. Also, there is a huge nod to skin quality and a host of “background work”. (More on that later!) Skin quality is astoundingly important. Good juicing, Kombucha’ing, and generally keeping yourself well-nourished and hydrated, will support

the process of course. However, there is nothing like a good peel and resurfacing, coupled with some pure injectable hyaluronic acid, to take sauntering to shimmering. Then there are a host of medical grade products to keep the good stuff glowing as part of a daily/weekly routine. Prescription retinol (Tretinoin) remains a firm favourite, married with sassy soulmate SPF 50, as a no brainer. (If anybody hasn’t got the memo about UV rays and aging, I will literally fall off my chair.) The afore mentioned “background work” is so very helpful in keeping things in their rightful place. I’m all up for a full-face lift, when the time comes, but for those who want to maintain a wise, whilst lifted look in the meantime, there are areas in which you can use sophisticated fillers to lift and soften without a hint of odd. The temples are a good example, which become sunken over time as they lose volume and see the tail of the brow begin to descend. Behind the hairline is another excellent place to add a little lift without creating contours that don’t belong. The preauricular area (the bit in front of the ear, an index finger width and length) is also a helpful fellow, as is the chin and the angle of the jaw. These lesser-known points (in public parlance) are paramount in maintaining the package of you. Just a fresher version. Then there is the putting downward pulling muscles back in their place, gently but consistently. I think our creator(s) were having an off day, as the downward pulling muscles (the frown and the mouth corners) get stronger as we age. This means our upward lifting muscles end up losing out to them, as we get furrowed and tugged down into an angry or sad looking person when we’re at rest. Having treated yogis, people of the cloth and wholefood writers, looking tired or grumpy when you really are giving it your all to live a good life is frankly bloody annoying. Well Hallelujah! Now that we understand what is actually happening as we age, we can prevent and reverse it by means of micro non-surgical interventions. It’s the premise on which the beautiful On The Rocks sofa was built. Thanks to a series of sumptuous islands, it’s free to move in any direction — be it throughout the centre of a room, or tracing a snug perimeter. MAXIMUM FLOWER POWER ALL SUMMER LONG G eraniums are the absolute classic among flowering bedding and balcony plants, the perfect choice for window boxes, hanging baskets, containers and flower beds in sunny locations thanks to their long flowering period and a variety of colours and shapes that is hard to beat. Geraniums can withstand periods of heat - even temporary drought - and are largely resistant to plant diseases and pests. Geranium care is so straightforward that even gardening novices can enjoy this blooming beauty. The wild forms of our modern geraniums originate from the Cape region in South Africa and modern cultivated varieties also love the sun. The more sun they get, the more at home they feel and the more flowers they produce. But geraniums can also thrive in partial shade. When planting, make sure they have plenty of room to grow. Planters mustn’t be shallower than 18cm deep and there should be a minimum distance of 20cm between plants. In order to remain healthy, hardy and producing new flowers over many months, they need plenty of nutrients. That is why they are geraniums are known as ‘heavy feeders’. If you plant them in prefertilised potting compost, they can usually cover their needs in the first few weeks completely from the nutrients they have on hand. If you use a slowrelease fertiliser, this can be the case for several months. At some point, however, the nutrients will be exhausted, so additional fertilising becomes

necessary. The composition of special geranium fertiliser is perfectly adapted to the needs of this balcony beauty. A good, natural geranium fertiliser is coffee grounds, as these contain just the right mix of potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen to provide all the nutrients geraniums need for optimal growth. To ensure an even supply of nutrients, we recommend weekly applications of fertiliser.
