HERITAGE CRAFTS AT RISK OF DISAPPEARING
Across the UK, traditional craft skills once central to daily life are quietly disappearing. Some now survive through only a small number of practitioners. A new project led by New Ashgate Gallery is working to record these skills, share them with new audiences, and support their continuation.
Surrey Craft Legacies focuses on heritage crafts identified in the Red List of Endangered Crafts, including silver spinning, marionette making, silk weaving, historic stained glass, and furniture making. These are skills shaped over generations, now under pressure from changing industry, training routes, and demand. Silk weaving, stained glass, and Marionette making are all endangered;

Silver spinning is critically endangered in the UK.
The project unfolds across three connected strands, bringing together documentation, participation, and public presentation.
The first strand captures knowledge at risk of being lost. Leading makers are being filmed as they work, recording both technique and lived experience. These oral-history films document how skills are learned, sustained, and adapted over time. The films will be made freely available online through Surrey History Centre, creating a lasting public resource, and will be shared with local schools and craft enthusiasts alike.
The second strand opens these skills to new audiences. From March to October 2026, a programme of free workshops will take place across Farnham’s town centre events and community venues. Participants will be introduced to processes such as constructing marionettes, working with woven fibres, and understanding stained glass design
The summer exhibition, Craft Legacies: Heritage and Endangered Skills, Living Traditions at the New Ashgate Gallery, Farnham, presents work by both leading makers from across the UK who have shared their knowledge in Farnham, England’s World Craft Town, alongside films, photographs, and handmade objects created through community workshops. The exhibition traces how skills move from one generation to the next. It presents heritage crafts as living practices, shaped by those who continue to make, teach, and adapt them today. Each piece reflects a process of learning, repetition, and exchange, showing how knowledge is passed on through hands-on experience.
Dr Outi Remes, Director of New Ashgate Gallery, said: “These are highly skilled practices built over generations, yet some are now on the brink of disappearing. If they are not actively passed on, they will be lost. This project records that knowledge and makes it accessible, while giving new people the chance to learn directly from experienced makers.”
Rachel Mulligan, a leading stained-glass artist and Surrey Artist of the Year competition winner in 2014 at the New Ashgate, has been instrumental in the recognition of historic stained glass as an endangered craft:
“Since I discovered stained glass more than thirty years ago, education opportunities have declined, and it has become significantly harder
and more expensive to buy specialist materials. Sharing my skills and engaging with people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities helps to raise awareness of this beautiful art form.”
During his visit to Farnham World Craft Town, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh took part in a stained-glass workshop at the Farnham Pottery, experiencing traditional craft skills first-hand.
Surrey Craft Legacies is led by New Ashgate Gallery, a charitable trust based in Farnham, Surrey. The project is funded by the Community Foundation for Surrey and made possible by The National Lottery Heritage Fund. It is developed in partnership with Creative Response, DAiSY, Hale Community Centre, Farnham Assist, and Farnham Library, with the digital archive hosted by Surrey History Centre.

NEW TWO MICHELIN STAR RESTAURANTS FOR 2026:
Only a handful of restaurants in the UK have two star-status, which is seen as a considerable step up from a single star and requires a degree of consistency and quality over many years. ‘Two stars elevates your restaurant to be one of the best in the world’ - says Michelin.
Two new restaurants were awarded two Michelin stars in 2026, both in London.
• ROW ON 5, MAYFAIR was awarded its second Michelin star after winning its first star in last year’s ceremony. The restaurant’s executive chef Spencer Metzger said the restaurant was “a dream to work in” and chef patron Jason Atherton praised his colleague as “the next generation of talent”.
• BONHEUR, MAYFAIR BY MATT ABE was awarded two Michelin stars – just three months after opening - a new venture in collaboration with chef Gordon Ramsay, who trained at the restaurant when it was Le Gavroche when he was just 22. Bonheur sits in the same location as Michel Roux’s restaurant Le Gavroche, which was the first restaurant in the UK to win three Michelin stars. Fired Legacies: The Ceramic World of Rich Miller
Watts Contemporary Gallery, 16 April – 28 June 2026
Opening at Watts Contemporary Gallery on 16 April, Fired Legacies: The Ceramic World of Rich Miller is the first solo exhibition of work by the leading ceramic artist – who is also well-known as a judge on Channel 4’s Great Pottery Throw Down.
resenting more than 100 works all made for this exhibition, Fired Legacies delves into Rich’s own mixed-race heritage and explores British colonial history, examining the complexities of migration and lasting cultural influences that have, for many years, inspired the artist’s practice.
From crowns to lampposts, piggybanks to rum bottles, Rich Miller takes familiar objects and symbols and, whilst respecting their beauty, considers other resonances: the crown and its links with empire, the lamppost and the recent ‘Raise the Colours’ campaign. His work asks questions that are intended to spark conversations around these issues, while promising no answers.
A graduate of Surrey Institute of Art and Design (now UCA), Rich Miller spent 20 years of his career at the helm of Froyle Tiles, a bespoke Surrey-based stoneware tile company and primary collaborator for world-class architects on projects including the Tate St Ives Pavilion (with Jamie Fobert Architects) and, with architects ZMMA, the restoration of Watts Gallery.
Parallel to his industrial expertise, Rich has always maintained a rigorous studio practice, and it is this duality of roles, as both a master technician and a conceptual ceramicist, that led to his appointment initially as a technical consultant on The Great Pottery Throw Down and subsequently a judge.
This is reflected in the exhibition where, alongside his conceptual work, Rich Miller will present a new range of colour-glazed homewares.
Rich Miller said: “Much of my work explores British colonial history and my place in it. I have a real fascination with social history and the way
we interact with objects, and the hierarchical structures that exist. All of the individual pieces I make ask the questions that I’ve always been thinking myself, such as how was British society formed, how was the wealth created and why am I, as a mixed-race person, here in Britain?”
“Rich has always maintained a rigorous studio practice, and it is this duality of roles, as both a master technician and a conceptual ceramicist, that led to his appointment initially as a technical consultant on The Great Pottery Throw Down and subsequently a judge”
“I’m delighted to be presenting this work at Watts Gallery, a place I’ve known for years. As a student in Farnham, we visited Watts Chapel and the Gallery, and when Watts Gallery was restored in 2010 Froyle Tiles was commissioned to create tiles for several spaces.”
Madeline Henderson, Co-CEO (interim) Watts Gallery, said: “Ceramics have always been and continue to be at the heart of Watts Gallery, from Mary Watts’s Chapel and the Pottery she created here in Compton, to exhibitions of work by leading contemporary ceramic artists including Rich Miller. Reflecting this, we are honoured that Dame Magdalene Odundo DBE, recognised as one of the world’s most esteemed ceramic artists, is our President.”
“Like Rich Miller, Mary Watts had more than one strand to her practice, and enabling others to learn and develop pottery skills was key to this. Today we continue to provide opportunities for people to learn and develop their pottery practice here at Watts Gallery, and through our Art for All community programme, we work hard to make sure that everyone can access this.”
“All profits from Watts Contemporary Gallery exhibitions support the Art for All learning programme, and we are delighted to be bringing Rich Miller’s incredible work to Compton.”

Easter is coming
Easter is coming, and so are the Easter Eggs! Which one will you choose this year? We went along to visit Chris Bachmann at his multi award winning Weybridge Patisserie in the search of the perfect egg. We asked him, “What makes a Bachmanns Egg so special?”
“All our Easter Eggs and Bunnies are handmade with love on the premises. There are a few reasons why I think that our Easter products are the best in the UK. First, we use one of the finest couvertures in the world, sourced from a small manufacturer in Switzerland. It not only eats well on its own, but marries perfectly with other flavours. Not only is the chocolate perfectly tempered and therefore beautifully shiny, but unlike factory made products, the chocolate is poured into the moulds, allowed to set, and then another molten layer of chocolate is added. When this layer sets, it creates a tension or fault line between the layers, which improves the “snap” of the chocolate when eaten. Last, we also hand sculpt our eggs, adding a final exterior textured layer, and by adding chocolate flowers and hand made buttons, each egg becomes an individual work of chocolate art. It is the repeated lamination that makes the eggs break up delicately before melting in the mouth, and that is what truly sets them apart. However, this takes a lot of skill, and we have a great team here under Wayne Harris our head Chef, and our choclatier Dan Ellis.
Filled with either our legendary fresh cream truffles, or packed and encrusted with Crunchy Almond Rochers (baton almonds, macerated in cointreau, toasted with icing sugar over a hot flame, and mixed with melted chocolate and cocoa butter) our Eggs make an exquisite and unique gift for that special someone. We only make and stock our eggs for the three weeks between Mothers Day and Easter- that way we can pack them so that the products are super fresh and tasting their best- you know they haven’t been sitting around on a shelf in a warehouse for months and months.
“In fact, a couple of Easters ago, one lucky lady opened her Bachmanns egg to find a diamond and platinum engagement nestling inside. Bachmanns were asked to pack the ring in its box into a truffle filled 800g dark chocolate egg so the suitor could propose in style on Easter day.
“I must admit, I was quite relieved to get the ring and the egg back to the owner- it was a gorgeous piece of jewellery and I imagine it was extremely expensive. It was quite a compliment that we were trusted to look after it. I am delighted to say that we got a thank you letter from him and his new fiancé the week later”

YOUR HOLIDAY SHOULDN’T BE HARD WORK
Q&A with Carsten Lund, Founder of TRIPLA
Q. When we were chatting before this interview, you said luxury is about “ease.” What does that mean to you?
To me, true luxury is when everything flows. That doesn’t always mean extravagant, but it does mean thoughtful. A wellness retreat in the Alps where transfers, spa treatments, and mountain hikes are seamlessly coordinated. Or a short city break where the flights, hotel, and a hard-to-get dinner reservation are already sorted. We do work with high-touch experiences, but it’s not about the price tag, it’s about removing stress and creating something that feels personal.
Q. In your experience as a traveller and industry professional, have you noticed travel needs changing in recent years?
Very much so. People are no longer just looking for a nice hotel or a beautiful view, they often want something deeper, something that resonates. I’ve noticed a real shift towards travel that feels meaningful. For some, that means behind-the-scenes cultural access; meeting local artisans, exploring places tourists don’t usually see. For others, it’s culinary journeys, connecting with a region through its food and wine. And increasingly, it’s about restoration: wellness retreats, mindful escapes, and time to simply switch off in a way daily life doesn’t allow. Travel has become less about ticking off a destination and more about creating experiences that inspire, enrich, and stay with you long after you’ve returned home.
We’ve all been there. Ten-tabs deep in-flight options, hotel reviews, and “must-see” lists. Why does organising time away so often feel like a job in itself? We sat down with Carsten Lund, founder of TRIPLA, to hear why he believes travel should feel effortless, and how his own experiences have inspired a different approach.
Q. Carsten, you’ve spent a lifetime travelling. What stands out most from those experiences?
I’ve been lucky to see the world through both a luxury and practical lens, from barefoot escapes on private islands to cultural weekends in Europe, and even multi-generational cruises or villas. And what always stands out is how much detail matters. The transfer that’s waiting without fuss or the restaurant that actually lives up to its promise. It’s these little things that turn a good trip into a truly memorable one.
Q. Many of us know the stress of planning holidays. What do you think makes it so challenging?
Time, mostly. People are busy, and while travel should be restorative, organising it often isn’t. I’ve seen clients arrive exhausted before their holiday even begins because they’ve spent weeks trying to piece it all together online. One family I worked with wanted a milestone birthday in Tuscany. They’d been overwhelmed by villa choices and didn’t know which were genuinely right for them. We stepped in, found a villa with space for grandparents, teenagers, and young children, complete with a private chef for a celebratory meal and a private wine tasting. For them, it turned from a logistical headache into a celebration they’ll never forget.
Q. With travel uncertainty on the rise, how can travellers be sure their money is safe?
It’s a very real question for many travellers. At TRIPLA, protection isn’t an add-on - it’s the foundation of everything we do. All flight-inclusive holidays are fully ATOL protected, and every client payment is held securely in Trust by NatWest Bank and the Travel Trust Association. This means client money is safeguarded from the moment they book, even in the unlikely event that a supplier or TRIPLA were to fail. In a landscape where reassurance matters, TRIPLA ensures every journey is 100% financially secure.
Q. What’s the best way to start planning a trip with TRIPLA? Everything begins with getting to know you. When clients connect with us - whether online or by getting in touch directly - it gives us a sense of their travel style and helps us start shaping ideas that are genuinely personal. Joining our mailing list also keeps you in the loop with tailored inspiration, updates and occasional offers, including the chance to win a £500 travel voucher. It’s a simple first step toward creating a journey designed entirely around you.
Q. And finally, what do you hope clients feel when they travel with TRIPLA?
Peace of mind, really. That feeling of being looked after so they can just enjoy the experience. Whether it’s a river cruise with private excursions, a birthday in Tuscany, or a quick Parisian escape between board meetings, I want them to feel it was designed just for them. And that they never had to worry about the details.

The story of Loseley Park begins in the early years of the 16th century, when the Manor of Loseley was purchased during the reign of Henry VII. Its new owner, Sir Christopher More—Sheriff of Surrey and Sussex—was a man of considerable influence and authority. Yet it was his son, Sir William More, a direct ancestor of the present owners, who truly shaped Loseley’s legacy by embarking on an ambitious programme of building.
At the heart of the estate stands the magnificent Tudor manor house, located just three miles southwest of Guildford. Constructed between 1562 and 1568, the present house was built using stone salvaged from the ruins of nearby Waverley Abbey. It replaced an earlier, more modest dwelling—one that Elizabeth I famously deemed “not adequate” for a royal visit, prompting the construction of a grander residence worthy of her presence.
Loseley’s celebrated walled garden is based on a design by the renowned garden designer Gertrude Jekyll and is arranged as a series of distinct

“rooms,” each with its own character and planting theme. Redevelopment of the garden began in 1993–94 with the Rose Garden and has since expanded to include the Herb Garden, Flower Garden, White Garden, and, most recently, the organic Vegetable and Cut Flower Garden. Beyond the formal gardens, the Loseley Lakes offer a tranquil haven for both wildlife and visitors. These historic water features form part of the landscaped parkland surrounding Loseley House and once served practical purposes—providing fish, water, and beauty to the estate. Thanks to support from the Surrey Hills Farming in Protected Landscapes programme, the upper and lower lakes have recently been restored. The project has improved water quality, reopened views towards the house, and created thriving habitats for wildlife such as kingfishers and dragonflies. New picnic benches along the footpath now invite walkers to pause and enjoy the revitalised landscape.
Acquired by the direct ancestors of the current owners, the More-Molyneux family, at the beginning of the 16th century, Loseley Park remains a family home to this day. Still lived in by the More-Molyneux family, the estate opens to the public each spring, offering visitors a rare glimpse into centuries of English history set within a living landscape.

TOURING EXHIBITION: LAST NIGHT FOR EVER BY ANDREA GREGSON AT WINKWORTH ARBORETUM
Until Thursday 17 March
Last Night For Ever, a sculpture by artist Andrea Gregson, arrives at Winkworth on the final stop on its tour of three National Trust properties (previously at Leith Hill Place and Nymans) this January.
Originally exhibited at The Garden Museum, London in 2009, the sculpture makes connections between garden histories past and present, merging the visual trickery of the grotto first created in Renaissance Italy, with found objects and visual motifs from this location over time.
Whilst the outside of the sculpture remains the same, bespoke new interiors have been made for each venue, to highlight the garden
and building histories, geology and surrounding landscape. Looking into the interior of the meandering sculpture, is a diorama of natural and manufactured forms. As visitors walk around the sculpture, they can adjust the roof panels to illuminate the interior, peer through different viewpoints.
At Winkworth Arboretum, the work responds to its location in the Boathouse next to Rowe’s Flashe (the lake), with a focus on water as a life-giving force for all species in the arboretum. In between the two ends of the sculpture, visitors can see a stone arch framing the entrance of regenerative shell grotto, and a fertile cave with fungi. With the ongoing advancement of urbanisation, Last Night For Ever, reminds us of the importance of nature and our fragile ecologies.
The exhibition has been funded by University for the Creative Arts Research Funding and the National Trust.
Andrea Gregson Biography Andrea Gregson is an artist, curator and Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at University for the Creative Arts, Farnham. INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS GUIDE
MARCH 2026
BENEFITS OF THE INDEPENDENT SCHOOL
With options ranging from traditional boarding schools to modern alternative curricula, there is almost certainly a private school to suit every child. Parents choose private education for many reasons, from academic enrichment to community values, and for many families it represents a worthwhile long-term investment in their child’s development.
ENRICHED ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITIES
One of the most widely recognized benefits of private schools is their ability to offer challenging and enriching educational experiences. Many provide advanced coursework, internationally recognized programs, and diverse extracurricular
learning opportunities. These programs are often designed not only to strengthen academic performance but also to encourage critical thinking, creativity, and personal growth. Graduates of private schools are frequently well prepared for higher education due to the rigor and breadth of their studies.
CONTROLLED CLASS SIZES
Private schools are known for placing a strong emphasis on smaller class sizes. Fewer students per classroom allows teachers to give more individualized attention, helping students strengthen weaker areas while further developing their strengths. This personalized approach supports deeper understanding, increased engagement, and a more responsive learning environment.
“91
per cent of parents surveyed said the dedication of the teachers was their main reason for choosing private school”
DEDICATED TEACHERS
Teachers in private schools are often highly qualified and deeply invested in their subjects. Many bring advanced training or specialized expertise to the classroom, along with a strong commitment to their students’ success. In closeknit school communities, teachers are more accessible and often serve as mentors and role models. Smaller class sizes also allow educators to provide extra support or extend learning opportunities when needed.
PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT
Open communication between parents and school staff is a cornerstone of private education. Schools often encourage parents to take an active role through regular meetings, community events, volunteer opportunities, and parent-led initiatives. This level of involvement helps families feel connected to the school community and supports stronger collaboration in a child’s education, which can positively influence parent–child relationships as well.
A SAFE ENVIRONMENT
Private schools typically maintain clear expectations for behavior, respect, and accountability. Lower staff-to-student ratios make it easier to supervise students and address issues proactively. A strong sense of community can also discourage negative behaviors and promote mutual respect, contributing to a learning environment where students feel secure and supported.
AMPLE RESOURCES
Many private schools invest heavily in resources that support learning across a wide range of disciplines. From well-equipped classrooms and libraries to sports facilities, art studios, and technology, these resources allow students to explore their interests and develop their talents more fully.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
While academics are central, private schools often emphasize the importance of a well-rounded education. Students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities such as sports, music, visual arts, drama, or clubs. These activities help develop teamwork, leadership, creativity, and social
“At private schools, you’ll find incredible resources to support student learning in the classroom, sports

skills, while also providing balance and relief from academic pressures.
PREPARATION FOR TODAY’S AND TOMORROW’S WORLD
Private schools often go beyond standard curriculum requirements by offering specialized programs in areas such as the arts, athletics, mathematics, and science. Their flexibility allows them to adapt to cultural, technological, and educational changes, preparing students for a wide range of future paths. Many families also seek out private education for children with specific learning needs, valuing the tailored support and individualized approaches these schools can provide.
Raising Resilient Minds: Learning Beyond the Classroom
Education is about far more than exams and grades - it’s about fostering resilience, creativity and the confidence to embrace the unknown. In Berkshire, where rolling hills, meandering rivers and scenic countryside abound, schools are increasingly recognising that adventure and hands-on experiences are just as vital as academic achievement in preparing young people for life beyond the classroom.
A strong academic foundation remains essential. Pupils need the knowledge and skills to think critically, communicate effectively and engage with ideas that shape the world around them. As education expert Alex Standish observes, “School subjects are a way of inducting children into the intellectual habits of humankind and hence into a disciplinary conversation about knowing our world.” Mastering these subjects equips students with the tools to contribute meaningfully - not only in the classroom but also within their communities and beyond.
Yet the lessons learned outside the classroom are equally transformative. Collaboration, adaptability and curiosity are skills that cannot always be measured by a test. At Pangbourne
“A strong academic foundation remains essential”
College academics are paired with an adventurous programme designed to challenge students beyond their comfort zones. From navigating local rivers and hiking through the Chilterns to tackling highropes courses, pupils build resilience, problemsolving abilities and leadership skills. They learn to listen, prioritise collective goals and see both success and setbacks as opportunities to grow.
An adventurous mindset nurtures independence, courage and integrity. By blending academic discipline with real-world experiences, Pangbourne prepares young people not just to succeed in exams, but to thrive in life. They leave equipped to make thoughtful choices, embrace challenges with confidence and contribute positively to the world around them.
Education, ultimately, extends far beyond the classroom. It’s about cultivating curiosity, character and a readiness to explore all that life has to offer - helping young people not only to achieve, but to live fully.

Churcher’s College: An All-Through Education Where Pupils Flourish
For families exploring school options in Hampshire, Churcher’s College stands out as a leading choice. Set within the South Downs National Park and close to the borders of Surrey and West Sussex, the school spans two spacious sites. As an independent day school for boys and girls aged 3 to 18, Churcher’s offers stability, community and a strong sense of belonging—the best of an all-through education.
A HAPPY AND RELAXED BEGINNING
At the Junior School and Nursery, children start their learning journey in a bright, nurturing environment. With generous outdoor space, pupils enjoy a childhood connected to nature, where exploration, play and fresh air are part of everyday learning. Outdoor activities are woven throughout the curriculum, supporting curiosity, wellbeing and confidence.
The school’s much-loved “have a go” ethos encourages pupils to embrace new challenges with enthusiasm. A broad, creative curriculum spans languages, music, art, science, sport and adventurous outdoor learning. Pastoral care is a particular strength: staff know each child individually and
work closely with families to ensure every pupil feels safe, valued and understood. By the time children move up to the Senior School at 11, they do so with readiness and excitement.
GROWING IN CONFIDENCE AND CHARACTER
The Senior School and Sixth Form build on this strong foundation, combining academic ambition with personal development. Excellent teaching sits alongside wide opportunities in sport, music, drama, art and the acclaimed outdoor education programme, helping pupils discover new interests and strengths.

HOW LONDON’S EDUCATION LANDSCAPE IS CHANGING
London’s education landscape is undergoing a period of significant change as schools adapt to the needs of modern learners and an increasingly complex world. While academic achievement remains central, there is growing recognition that education must also support wellbeing, personal development and broader life skills.
One notable shift is the increased focus on smaller class sizes and more personalised learning. Across the capital, many schools are prioritising individual attention, enabling teachers to better understand each pupil’s strengths, challenges and learning styles. This approach supports stronger academic progress while fostering confidence and engagement in the classroom.
A more holistic approach to education is also gaining momentum. Schools are placing greater value on character development, creativity and extracurricular opportunities alongside traditional subjects. Programmes that encourage leadership, collaboration and problem-solving are increasingly embedded into school life, helping students develop skills that extend well beyond examinations.
Wellbeing and mental health have become central considerations, particularly in a fastpaced urban environment. London schools are investing in pastoral care, mindfulness initiatives and emotional literacy, recognising that students who feel supported are better equipped to succeed academically. Creating balanced learning
environments is now widely viewed as essential rather than optional.
Curriculum innovation is another defining feature of change. Many schools are expanding learning beyond standard syllabuses to include financial literacy, digital skills, global citizenship and environmental awareness. London’s rich cultural, scientific and historical resources are increasingly used to enrich teaching, bringing subjects to life through real-world context. Technology is also reshaping education across the capital. Blended learning models, digital platforms and flexible teaching approaches allow for more adaptable and inclusive learning experiences, preparing students for a future in which digital fluency is vital.
Together, these developments signal a move towards an education system that balances academic excellence with wellbeing, creativity and adaptability. As London continues to evolve, so too does its approach to educating young people — ensuring they are prepared not only for exams, but for life beyond the classroom.

COLLAGEN STIMULATION: A Regenerative Answer to Facial Rejuvenation
Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers have long been used to restore facial volume and will also improve the quality of the overlying skin. They remain an effective treatment for age-related volume loss. However, concerns about over-correction and the risk of an “over-filled” appearance have led to increasing interest in treatments that enhance skin quality whilst minimising volume replacement. Such an approach is collagen bio-stimulation with Sculptra®. Sculptra contains Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA) an injectable biocompatible material with a 20yr history of safe medical use. Unlike traditional fillers, PLLA does not simply add volume. Instead, it works by stimulating the body to produce its own collagen, within the dermis.
than an instant volumising treatment, results develop progressively. Improvements typically become noticeable over 6–12 weeks and continue to evolve thereafter. With appropriate patient selection and treatment planning, results can be sustained for up to 24 months.
At the Cosmetic Doctors Company our treatments are individually tailored following a comprehensive consultation that considers skin quality, degree of collagen loss, anatomical factors and aesthetic goals. Most patients require two treatment sessions spaced approximately 4–6 weeks apart, although this is personalised according to need.
Collagen plays a central role in maintaining skin structure, strength and elasticity. From early adulthood, collagen production declines at an estimated rate of around 1% per year. Over time, this contributes to dermal thinning, reduced firmness and the development of fine lines and wrinkles.

FRANSES JEWELLERS:
CRAFTSMANSHIP, HERITAGE, AND A CONTINUING STORY
Adeep respect for craftsmanship is the mantra by which the Franses family heart beats. Franses Jewellers believes that fine jewellery should be thoughtfully designed, carefully made, and created to endure. This philosophy is brought to life through the work of James Franses, whose designs represent the fourth generation of a family tradition rooted in creativity and skill.
James Franses plays an integral role in shaping the identity of Franses today. With a background steeped in both traditional techniques and contemporary design, many of the jewellery collections are designed and crafted in-house, allowing for a level of detail and individuality that defines the brand. Each piece reflects a balance between timeless elegance and modern refinement, ensuring it feels relevant while retaining its character.
Designing and making jewellery in-house allows for a more personal approach. From the earliest sketches to the final polish, every stage is guided by an understanding of the significance jewellery holds for those who wear it. Whether creating a bespoke engagement ring or a refined everyday piece, the focus remains the same: to create
jewellery that feels meaningful, beautifully made, and destined to be cherished for generations.
James’s work is mastered by technical expertise and an intuitive sense of style. Inspiration is often drawn from classic forms and subtle detailing. Diamonds and precious gemstones are selected for their quality and character, while each design is carefully considered to ensure longevity — both in craftsmanship and aesthetic. Through this approach, Franses jewellery continues to evolve while remaining true to its foundations.
This commitment to quality and creativity is inseparable from the wider Franses story — a story shaped by family, and a lifelong passion for fine jewellery.
The origins of Franses Jewellers can be traced back to a moment of quiet curiosity. Jeff Franses’ journey began simply by walking past a jewellery shop and being drawn in by a watch displayed in the window. It was a Patek Philippe timepiece, remarkable for its unusual shape and understated elegance. That moment sparked a fascination that would grow into a lifelong dedication to jewellery and horology.
Jeff’s keen eye for detail and natural appreciation for antique jewellery became defining traits. Over time, this instinctive understanding of craftsmanship and design laid the foundations for what Franses would become. Antique jewellery continues to influence the values of the business today — reinforcing the importance of quality,
“Jeff Franses’ journey began simply by walking past a jewellery shop and being drawn in by a watch displayed in the window. It was a Patek Philippe timepiece, remarkable for its unusual shape and understated elegance”
provenance, and thoughtful design.
As the business developed, it remained firmly rooted in family values. Knowledge was passed down through generations, not only in terms of technical expertise, but in an understanding of service, integrity, and trust. Jewellery, after all, often marks life’s most meaningful moments, and Franses has always recognised the responsibility that comes with being part of those stories.
Today, as a fourth-generation family jeweller, Franses continues to honour that legacy while embracing the future. The business remains proudly independent, shaped by decades of experience and a shared passion for excellence. Its long-standing presence on Westover Road reflects a deep connection to Bournemouth and its community.
From Jeff’s first moment of inspiration to James’s contemporary designs, with the added visual merchandising skillset of Beverly Franses, and Jemma Franses’s exceptional customer service, Franses Jewellers represents a continuity of vision. Each piece tells a story — not only of the materials and the maker, but of a family whose heritage continues to shape every detail. franses.co.uk

‘SOFT RADIANCE’ An Effortless Makeup trend for 2026
In 2026, beauty is embracing a gentler, more luminous approach. Moving away from sculpted contours, rigid eyeliner, and bold lips, makeup is now all about soft radiance — a subtle glow that highlights your natural features rather than masking them. Skin appears dewy and fresh, lips hold a delicate wash of colour, and eyes are softly defined. It’s a look that feels modern yet timeless, editorial yet approachable — ideal for readers in London who appreciate elegance that doesn’t feel overworked.
The key to this trend is letting natural texture shine. Heavy powders and matte foundations are replaced with lightweight, hydrating formulas that enhance rather than cover. Cream blushes, tinted moisturizers, and sheer foundations create a healthy, lit-from-within effect. Layering is understated: cheeks, lips, and eyes are harmonized,
yet precise lines are intentionally avoided. The result is a look that feels effortless and lived-in while remaining polished and cohesive. Lips play a starring role. Instead of crisp lines or opaque matte finishes, makeup artists suggest sheer, buildable colour applied with fingertips or a soft brush. The effect is a natural, justtouched appearance that mirrors real lip tones. Cheeks reflect these same soft hues, and eyes remain neutral — soft browns, warm taupes, and muted roses create definition without harshness. Highlighter is applied sparingly, accentuating contours while keeping the overall glow subtle. Eyes continue the theme of understated elegance. Rather than dramatic eyeliner or deep smokey shadows, muted shades define the eye softly. Mascara is applied to enhance length and lift without clumping or over-separation. The goal
is approachable sophistication: a look suitable for daytime meetings, evening events, or spontaneous photoshoots. Its versatility is a driving factor in its popularity in fashion-forward cities like London. Technique remains central to the soft-radiance aesthetic. Fingers, soft brushes, and sponges are preferred to diffuse edges and blend colours seamlessly. Products are layered lightly, allowing cream blushes and multi-use balms to meld with the skin. Lips are gently patted rather than outlined, while highlighters are placed strategically on high points to enhance dimension without excessive shimmer. Subtlety is paramount: enhancement takes precedence over perfection. This trend aligns with wider cultural shifts in beauty, emphasizing authenticity, versatility, and effortless sophistication. It allows wearers to celebrate individuality, showing polished yet approachable looks that fit busy, modern lifestyles. Products designed for this aesthetic — sheer lip oils, lightweight foundations, luminous blushes, and multipurpose balms — make achieving soft radiance simple, whether you’re a makeup novice or seasoned enthusiast.

How to find the right therapist
Starting therapy is a very important decision. The world of therapy can feel overwhelming. There is no single “best” therapy. You have chosen to meet a new person and invite them to walk beside you through the next period of your life. So how do you find the right guide? How do you know that this therapist is someone with whom you can be vulnerable but still feel safe and protected?
The relationship you have with your therapist is the most important factor in a successful therapeutic partnership. You will need to feel comfortable sharing experiences, both past and present. There are several factors involved when choosing a therapist. The first step is to ensure they are qualified, insured and belong to the relevant governing body such as UKCP, BACP or the BPS to name but a few.
Often mental health charities can help or offer advice regarding the best therapists in your area. You can seek a referral through your GP or selfrefer to most private practitioners.
Many therapists offer an initial telephone consultation. This gives you the opportunity to see how you feel while speaking to them. Ask them to explain how they work and the modality that they use. Some of the main ones are:
1. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): Focuses on the link between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.
3. Humanistic / Person-Centred Therapy: Emphasises empathy, authenticity, and selfacceptance.
4. Integrative / Eclectic Therapy: Combines techniques from different modalities.
5. Trauma-Focused Approaches (e.g. EMDR, Somatic Therapy): Specialised methods to process trauma safely.
Most importantly do you sense empathy, safety and a desire to help?
Therapy is not a quick fix. Answers won’t come immediately. It is a journey rather than a destination. With the right guide you will become more fully aware of yourself. You will feel enabled, empowered, liberated and more able to live effectively with yourself and others. Choosing the right partner on this journey is critical and will be life changing.

For many individuals, the benefits are significant, including improved metabolic health, better blood sugar regulation, and meaningful, sustained weight loss. However, alongside these health gains, there is increasing awareness of the visible changes that can occur in the skin and face following substantial or rapid weight reduction.
When you lose weight, the body sheds fat from all areas, including the face. This fat normally helps support the skin and maintain facial fullness. As it reduces, the skin can appear thinner or less firm. While this is a natural physiological process, the pace of weight loss seen with medications like Mounjaro can make these changes more noticeable.
One commonly discussed effect is “Mounjaro Face.” This term describes the loss of subcutaneous fat pads in the face, which can lead to hollow cheeks, under eye hollows, and a sagging jawline. Facial fat plays an essential structural role by supporting skin and softening contours. When it diminishes quickly, the face may look gaunter or more angular. For some, this creates a sculpted appearance. For others, it can contribute to a tired or prematurely aged look.
Changes are not limited to the face. Sagging and laxity elsewhere on the body are also
common concerns. Because of rapid shrinkage, the skin on the stomach, arms, and thighs may become loose, saggy, or crêpey. Skin has impressive elasticity, but it is influenced by age, genetics, hormonal factors, sun exposure, and the total amount of weight lost. When fat volume decreases quickly, the skin may not retract at the same speed, resulting in visible laxity.
An accelerated aging appearance may also develop. Decreased collagen and elastin production, combined with rapid weight loss, can make skin look older, tired, or drawn. Collagen provides structure and firmness, while elastin allows the skin to maintain resilience. As natural production of these proteins declines with age, the sudden reduction of facial and body fat can make these changes more apparent. Stretch marks are another possible outcome. As the skin retracts, new stretch marks may appear due to the swift change in skin tension. Although often associated with weight gain or pregnancy, stretch marks can also occur when the skin undergoes rapid contraction. Individual susceptibility varies based on genetics and skin type.
Dryness can further affect overall skin quality. Reduced nutrient intake or dehydration may cause skin to feel drier, less supple, or less hydrated. Appetite suppression sometimes leads to lower consumption of essential nutrients, including healthy fats and proteins that are vital
for maintaining the skin barrier. Without proper hydration and nourishment, the skin may appear dull and less resilient.
Despite these potential changes, prevention and management strategies can make a meaningful difference. Gradual weight loss of approximately 0.5 to 1 kilogram per week allows the skin more time to adjust to the body’s changing shape. Although medications can accelerate results, a steady and controlled approach may help minimize sudden laxity.
Hydration is fundamental. Water helps maintain skin elasticity, overall tone, and cellular function. Consistent fluid intake supports the skin’s structural integrity and can improve its appearance during periods of change.
Nutrition is equally important. Eating a balanced diet that includes adequate protein, healthy fats, and essential vitamins, particularly vitamins C and E, supports collagen production and tissue repair. Protein provides amino acids necessary for
structural support, while antioxidants help protect against oxidative stress that contributes to collagen breakdown.
Sun protection is another critical factor. Ultraviolet exposure accelerates collagen degradation and reduces skin elasticity. Daily application of broad spectrum sunscreen can help preserve skin quality and slow the development of laxity and fine lines.
For individuals seeking additional support, non surgical treatments may help manage visible changes. Dermal fillers can restore lost facial volume and soften hollows. Skin tightening technologies such as Sofwave and BTL Exilis stimulate collagen production and improve firmness in targeted areas. Medical grade skincare products that contain retinoids, peptides, and growth factors can further enhance collagen synthesis and improve texture over time.
Professional advice remains essential. A qualified clinician can provide evidence based skincare recommendations, assess nutritional adequacy, and guide appropriate medical support when needed. Personalized treatment plans ensure that aesthetic concerns are addressed without compromising overall health.
Weight loss with medications such as Mounjaro can be transformative. While skin changes may occur, they are understandable physiological responses to fat reduction and can often be mitigated with proactive care. By combining gradual weight management, hydration, balanced nutrition, sun protection, medical skincare, and professional guidance, individuals can prioritize both metabolic health and skin integrity.

Kitchen refresh with stylish, practical tile splashbacks
When it comes to updating a kitchen, we know that the splashback is one of the most hardworking design features in the room. Protecting walls from splashes, steam and everyday cooking mishaps, our kitchen tiles also offer a powerful opportunity to add colour, texture and personality to the heart of the home. From classic metro tiles to statement patterns and sleek modern finishes, the right splashback can instantly elevate a kitchen scheme.
Leading tile, wall panel and flooring specialist Hyperion Tiles is encouraging homeowners to rethink this key area, choosing splashback tiles that balance style with long-term practicality. Our director Richard Skeoch explains: “A kitchen splashback should work just as hard as it looks good. Tiles are heat-resistant, wipe-clean and incredibly durable, making them ideal behind hobs and sinks. Whether you opt for timeless ceramics or robust porcelain in a bold, patterned or subtle plain design, a well-chosen tiled splashback can completely transform a kitchen while withstanding daily life.”
“A kitchen splashback should work just as hard as it looks good”
Follow our top tips on choosing kitchen tile splashbacks:
• Balance style with practicality: Ceramic and porcelain tiles are ideal for busy kitchens thanks to their durability, low water absorption and easyclean finishes.
• Decide on a focal point: Use patterned or colourful tiles to create impact behind the hob, or keep things calm with block-colour or neutral tiles that complement cabinetry and worktops.
• Think about light and space: Gloss finishes and lighter shades help bounce light around smaller or darker kitchens, while matt tiles offer a softer, contemporary feel.
• Don’t overlook grout: Mid-tone grout shades are practical in family kitchens, disguising everyday splashes while still looking polished.
• Choose with longevity in mind: Classic tile shapes paired with contemporary colours tend to age more gracefully than overly trend-led designs.
With more than 15,000 tile and wall panel options available, Hyperion Tiles caters for every project and personal taste, with choices in colours, finishes, textures, patterns, shapes and sizes. Beyond tiles, the collection includes designer paint, luxury wall panels, distinctive bathroom accessories (from mirrors to storage), plus flooring solutions from real wood to LVT. hyperiontiles.co.uk
Still. Serene. Simply Breathtaking.

The brief called for spa-inspired luxury but with warmth and intimacy rather than a hotel aesthetic. The result is a deeply personal sanctuary, shaped around comfort, rhythm, and retreat.
The Bath: A Sculpture in Stillness
The freestanding bath sits in natural light, its soft organic curves gently contrasting the room’s architectural lines. Positioned as the visual centrepiece, it brings quiet ceremony to daily rituals. This is not indulgence for show, but meaningful elegance that transforms how mornings begin and evenings unwind.
“The bath is the emotional heart of the room - calm, grounding, and visually effortless.”

A wall-hung heated WC integrates seamlessly, with concealed cistern and glass flush plate maintaining uninterrupted lines. Intelligent engineering sits quietly behind the design, advanced cleansing, water efficiency, and soft-close functionality. Everything performs beautifully, without demanding attention.
The Vanity: Warmth and Order
The floating vanity enhances the sense of space, while warm timber cabinetry softens stone and porcelain surfaces. An undercounter basin keeps the look clean and uninterrupted, complemented by brushed brass mixers that catch the light with understated refinement. Storage remains generous yet discreet because true serenity begins without clutter.
“Every surface was chosen to feel calm to the eye and reassuring to the touch.”
The Materials: Texture and Continuity
Large-format porcelain flows seamlessly from floor to wall, creating visual harmony. Timber adds depth, brass introduces warmth, and underfloor heating ensures comfort underfoot. Integrated lighting casts a soft glow, while recessed niches provide practical storage without visual noise.
The Feeling
This is more than a beautifully specified bathroom. It is a space that resets you, that turns daily routines into restorative rituals. A reminder that the rooms we return to every day deserve thoughtful design and enduring quality. In the end, this is what home should do.

Pantone’s Colour of the Year brings serenity to bathrooms
Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2026 is set to make a quiet but powerful impact in the home, and according to the experts at independent tile specialists Porcelain Superstore, nowhere will the calming influence of Cloud Dancer be felt more than in the bathroom.
As homeowners increasingly look to create spa-like spaces that support rest and wellbeing, this soft, airy off-white offers the perfect foundation.
Unlike stark whites or cold greys, Cloud Dancer sits in a warmer, gentler place.
It reflects light beautifully while still feeling cocooning, making it particularly well suited to bathrooms, where calmness and serenity are key.
Abbas Youssefi, Managing Director, Porcelain Superstore, said: “Bathrooms are no longer just functional spaces, they’ve become places to switch off and Cloud Dancer speaks directly into that mindset.
“It is soft, reassuring and timeless, which makes it ideal for bathrooms where you want to create a sense of calm without the space feeling bland or clinical.”
For those homeowners embarking on a bathroom renovation this new year, Abbas feels Cloud Dancer is a great inspiration when it comes

to tile selection.
Not only will its creamy off-white hues help smaller bathrooms feel more open, but in larger spaces tiles in Cloud Dancer-esque shades will provide a serene backdrop that lets textures and finishes shine.
Abbas added: “Cloud Dancer is incredibly versatile. It works just as well with natural materials like wood and stone as it does with more contemporary finishes such as brushed brass or matt black brassware.
“It also complements a wealth of colours, from pastel shades through to bolder hues, for those homeowners who want to add contrast and interest through accessories.”
For those keen to embrace the trend fully, Abbas recommends layering similar tones rather than matching everything exactly. Soft beige or offwhite wall tiles, lightly veined floor tiles and tonal grout can all help create a seamless, relaxing feel.
Porcelain Superstore offers a wide range of tiles in creamy off-white shades, including Heath White and Nomad Chalk.
The Complete Guide to Bathroom Heating
Today’s bathrooms blend style with comfort and your choice of radiator or heated towel rail is key to creating the perfect space. Nick Duggan, MD at The Radiator Centre, reveals everything you need to consider when choosing the right heating solution.
TYPES OF BATHROOM HEATING
Towel Rails
Towel rails are a perfect blend of practicality and style, keeping towels warm and within easy reach. They come in a huge variety of finishes and designs have come a long way since the standard ladder models, providing an opportunity to add a stylish, decorative touch to your bathroom. The main advantage is their dual functionality, as they heat both your room and your towels. However, it’s worth bearing in mind they typically provide less overall warmth than a standard radiator, so they’re best suited to smaller bathrooms or used in combination with another heating solution. Nick Duggan, MD at The Radiator Centre adds, “When selecting a heated towel rail, finishes and design can make a real difference. Coloured or matt options are more efficient than chrome, which can emit up to 20% less heat, while larger bars and designs that separate the towel section from the radiator, will warm the room more effectively. For ultimate convenience, dual fuel models with an optional electric element are ideal, ensuring your towels stay warm and dry even when the central heating is off during the summer months.”
Standard Radiators
If your bathroom already has plumbing, standard radiators offer consistent, reliable warmth for a bathroom. Providing a higher heat output than heated towel rails, they’re excellent for heating larger spaces and some designs come with a choice of complimentary hooks and bars for your towels too.
Electric Radiators & Panels
Electric radiators and panels provide flexibility and convenience, ideal for bathrooms where plumbing is limited. As Nick explains, “These slim, contemporary designs fit almost anywhere and their programmable settings allow for precise control. Their main limitations are running costs, which can be higher than water-based systems, and in very large bathrooms they may not deliver as consistent warmth as a full central-heating radiator.”
Combination Approaches
Combining different heating solutions is a great way to get the best of both comfort and style. As Nick explains, “In larger bathrooms a standard radiator paired with a sleek towel rail, creates a warm, beautifully styled space where your towels are always perfectly dry. The only thing to keep in mind is making sure the controls and designs work together so the space feels cohesive.”
DESIGN & STYLE CONSIDERATIONS
Style and finish are where a towel rail or bathroom radiator can truly elevate your whole bathroom. Many modern designs are statement pieces in their own right, combining striking shapes with elegant finishes to complement your décor. Nick comments, “Bathroom heating is no longer just about function and the latest designs play with shape, texture and colours to really mix things up. There’s more choice than ever before for the bathroom, so whether you’re someone who prefers your radiator or towel rail to blend in or stand out, there are some great solutions to explore.”
PRACTICAL TIPS
Sizing
To work out what you need for your bathroom, use a simple heat calculator which will take into account the size of your bathroom, ceiling height and even the number of windows. This will then give you a clear guide on the ideal output in watts, which will influence the size of towel rail or radiator needed. It’s a small step that saves guesswork and ensures your heating is perfectly matched to your space.
Position
Placement is a key consideration as Nick advises, “Ideally, position your heated towel rail somewhere easily accessible from the shower or bath, without crowding the room or blocking other fixtures. Wall space near the bath or beside the shower often works best. While traditional, vertical towel rails are still a popular choice, there are a lot of other stylish options now available so take some time to consider what works for your space. Long, low designs are a great solution for anyone with a smaller bathroom as they can fit in areas which would otherwise be dead space, such as above the bath.”
Energy Efficiency
When it comes to bathroom heating, your choices can make a big difference to energy use. Nick advises, “With electric towel rails, look for systems with thermostatic controls or programmable timers so your bathroom is only heated when you need it, rather than running all day. Choosing the right size radiator or towel rail for your room is
also key, as over or under estimating sizing can mean wasted energy or an under-heated space.”
He continues, “You may also want to consider energy-efficient designs that use lower volumes of water combined with a high internal surface area. Less water means less energy is needed to heat it, making the system more efficient overall. For example, aluminium radiators typically contain less water and heat up faster than steel equivalents, so they reach the desired temperature more quickly while using less energy, perfect for anyone looking to combine comfort with smarter, more sustainable heating.”
Nick adds, “If your home uses a heat pump, it’s important to choose bathroom heating that works efficiently at lower water temperatures. While standard heated towel rails may struggle to warm the room sufficiently on their own, you could consider pairing them with a low-temperature or larger panel radiator, providing plenty of heat and giving you the best of both worlds. Alternatively, models like the Rosy Pro, shown below, are designed specifically to work with heat pumps and come with integrated rails for towels.” theradiatorcentre.com
TRENDS & INNOVATIONS
Smart bathrooms aren’t just about voice-activated mirrors or mood lighting, heating has gone smart too. App-controlled towel rails and radiators let you pre-warm your bathroom, dry towels efficiently and even monitor energy use remotely. Nick comments, “What we’re seeing now is a shift from novelty to necessity. With energy costs high and homeowners looking for more responsive, efficient systems, smart heating is becoming the sensible choice. A Wi-Fi enabled towel rail that only runs when you need it isn’t just luxurious, it’s practical. In our view, smart heating will soon be the norm in modern bathrooms. The real innovation lies in how these products integrate, linking with sensors, smart thermostats and even humidity detection to keep the space comfortable and efficient without constant user input.”
The spring shift in bathroom design
With bathroom design specialists, Ripples.
Spring 2026 brings with it a renewed desire for homes that feel uplifting, personal and easy to live in. Rather than dramatic redesigns, this season is about thoughtful updates that enhance wellbeing and reflect how we truly use our spaces. Here, Natalie, showroom owner at Ripples Banstead, shares her insight into why the bathroom is emerging as one of the most transformed rooms in the home.
Once purely practical, bathrooms are now being designed as restorative sanctuaries. Homeowners are prioritising layouts that feel calm and uncluttered, layered lighting that adapts from energising mornings to relaxing evenings, and tactile materials that add warmth and comfort. The focus is not on indulgence for its own sake, but on creating an atmosphere that supports daily routines and moments of pause.
Warm neutrals are replacing the cool greys that dominated previous years. Soft beiges, clay tones and gentle browns add depth while maintaining a light, spring-ready feel. These hues pair beautifully with natural materials such as timber furniture, stone-effect tiles and brushed metallic finishes, creating spaces that feel both grounded and effortlessly elegant.
Colour is also returning, but with greater intention. Mineral greens, soft sky blues and muted terracotta tones are being introduced through tiles, cabinetry or accessories to add personality without overwhelming the room. The effect is subtle yet uplifting - a reflection of a wider shift towards bathrooms that support emotional wellbeing as much as aesthetic appeal.
Another defining trend is the move towards softer shapes and organic forms. Curved mirrors, rounded basins and gently contoured baths introduce a sense of flow, helping bathrooms feel more welcoming and less clinical. Paired with textured finishes such as fluted glass, ribbed surfaces and matte stone, these details add quiet visual interest while maintaining a calm, cohesive look.
Ultimately, Spring 2026 is less about following trends and more about creating spaces that feel authentic and restorative. By embracing warmth, texture and thoughtful design, homeowners are shaping bathrooms that not only look beautiful, but genuinely enhance everyday life.

HOW TO BUILD THE ULTIMATE HOBBY ROOM
In the words of Lao Tzu, “To know others is wisdom. To know yourself is enlightenment.” Hobbies are the embodiment of self-understanding, much like building our dream homes. They are pursuits we engage in not for financial gain or outside recognition, but for the enrichment of our human experience.
Therefore, it is paramount that your space can play host to the things you love most. From vinyl aficionados to gaming gurus, knitting maestros to grail collectors, the rule is simple: have at least one room that is, essentially, a larger extension of your brain’s greatest daydreams. For all you passion seekers out there, here are the starting points for building your ultimate hobby hideout.
The core concept:
You want to be able to tell a story that sparks curiosity — one that builds anticipation in any like-minded individuals (whether they want to hear it or not) about how this room creates the single greatest experience you could hope for.
For example, Brionvega is one of the foremost speaker system innovators in the world and has been creating audiological marvels since the 50s. Their mid-century charm, paired with decades of sound-engineering majesty, delivers one of the world’s best vinyl listening experiences. Like many legends of niche interests, Achille Castiglioni’s
Radiofonografo even has an official owners’ club for those who belong to this exclusive group.
Absolute cinema – Movie Watchers: Now that we’ve discussed the DNA of the perfect personal space, let’s explore which pieces are ideal for the hobbies we love so dearly — starting with a personal favourite of mine. As all film geeks know, half the battle when getting into a movie happens off-screen. Not off-camera, but in the space around
you. Setting up your own personal cinema room is about as intimate as it gets for those of us who are fans of the silver screen.
Add some dramatic dimmable lamps and take on your own cinematic universe from the comfort of a Cassina armchair. Want the true multiplex experience? Invest in Poltrona Frau’s collaboration with camera legends Leica, which projects picture-perfect quality right from the TV unit into your home.
Turn it up – Music Listeners:
Music is the language of the world. Love stories are told, tragedies are compressed into three-minute sonatas, and a collection of your fondest memories exists in melodic form. It doesn’t even need lyrics for you to understand the message. Imagine keeping a library that contains all of that — you’d want it to be your own personal listening paradise.
Storage is usually a great place to start. You need somewhere to put the things you aren’t using, so you aren’t overwhelmed by materials and tools. Next comes seating — this needs to be mobile, adjustable, and able to fit comfortably within the rest of your space. Style is more of an optional extra in this regard. Finally, while we specialise in surfaces, we don’t want to recommend breaking out the paint-by-numbers on any of them, so we’ll leave that to you.
You’re going to need a place to sit back, store your special songs, and hear every note in pitch-perfect quality. The following steps are our recommended failsafe: combine bespoke storage from USM with that megastar of vintage aesthetics: the Eames Lounge Chair. Then dial it up to eleven (I tried to avoid the Spinal Tap reference — I really did) with a sound system from Brionvega or Transparent.
What you make of it – Craft Lovers:
Other hobbies take a more DIY approach — for the practically-minded among us who pass the time quilting, crocheting, and painting to their heart’s content. After all, nothing makes a house feel more like a home than making space for your own creations, amplified further when those pieces are made within the boundaries of your abode. So, what path can you take to create the perfect crafting space?
“You’re going to need a place to sit back, store your special songs, and hear every note in pitch-perfect quality”
Read the room - Bookworms
Is the local library still not quiet enough? Want to be the sole member of your own book club? The obvious prerequisite for this hobby is, of course, literature. But the design that transforms a space into your own reading room — one that lets the words transport you to another world from the comfort of home — is the ultimate goal. This one is a little looser on the guidelines: all the below are a matter of personal preference and are largely down to the individual. Pick a comfy chair (with a side table to match), a glowing floor lamp, and an even bigger bookcase — and you’ve got your reading room. Decorate the shelves with your favourite personal effects, and light a candle for added ambience.

Gardens Designed for Living
Among the hills and woodlands of Surrey, a garden — whether in town or countryside — is far more than an addition to a house. It is essential part of everyday life and often the very reason of living here: a place for long lunches and meeting with friends, children and dogs spilling outdoors after school, or a quiet morning coffee before the day begins. In a county where landscape and architecture are so closely intertwined, the garden plays a defining role in how a home is experienced.
Yet even the most thoughtfully designed houses can be paired with outdoor spaces that feel incomplete — attractive in parts, but lacking comfort, privacy or a sense of cohesion.
At Scamells Garden Design, every project begins with conversation. Understanding how a garden should feel, how it will be lived in, and how it must perform throughout the seasons shapes everything that follows. The studio’s philosophy is rooted in the belief that a successful garden must respond equally to people and place — to the character of the house, the surrounding landscape
and the patterns of daily life.
Led by Joanna, the studio brings architectural clarity together with naturalistic, low-maintenance planting to create spaces that feel both structured and relaxed. There is a quiet emphasis on proportion, flow and atmosphere — gardens that hold their form in winter and soften in summer, that offer openness where desired and shelter where needed. The intention is never to impose a design, but to allow it to feel as though it has always belonged.
Working across contemporary townhouses and established country homes, the studio undertakes a limited number of projects each year, ensuring close personal involvement and attention to detail throughout. The process is measured and transparent, offering reassurance alongside creative clarity. From early concept through to completion, each stage is carefully managed so that the journey feels seamless as well as considered.
The finished gardens are designed for living — for gathering, unwinding, celebrating and simply stepping outside to breathe. Thoughtful design offers something quietly valuable: a landscape that feels settled, enduring and entirely your own.

REFRESH YOUR POOL NOW Enjoy it in the Summer
Make the most of the quiet months and welcome summer with a sparkling, upgraded swimming space.
As the garden settles into its winter calm and the pool enjoys a restorative break, it is the ideal moment for expert pool engineers to give this cherished feature of your home extra care. With no swimmers to disturb and plenty of time before the summer rush, winter is an opportunity for essential refurbishment and servicing work to be done - ensuring effortless enjoyment when warm weather returns.
Outdoor Pools: Preparing for a Summer Comeback
With the pool resting, your pool engineer can conduct uninterrupted inspections and enhancements. Winter services are the perfect time for specialists to retile areas where tiles have loosened, refresh worn surrounds or replace ageing liners and coping stones. By spring, everything will look pristine and ready for long, lazy days by the water.
Indoor pools also benefit from seasonal attention. Your pool engineer can assess humidity control, air quality and ventilation, ensuring a healthier, more comfortable environment year-round.
Enhancing lighting, adding acoustic treatments or introducing spa features such as hydrotherapy jets or counter-current systems can enhance wellbeing.
Winter is also the ideal moment to review insulation, fine-tune plant room systems and optimise filtration efficiency - all carried out discreetly while normal family life continues.
Little Touches, Big Differences
Energy efficiency upgrades are another winter win. Your pool engineer can install modern heat pumps, advanced filtration systems and automatic covers that reduce running costs while improving comfort.
Lighting offers instant impact too: newgeneration LEDs can transform the atmosphere, casting soft, elegant illumination across terraces for those balmy summer evenings.
For homeowners seeking a more contemporary aesthetic, winter allows for creative refinements - from sleek porcelain terraces to sculptured entry steps - elevating an existing pool into a true outdoor retreat.
Smaller upgrades can make a surprising impact. Smart automation systems allow you to monitor water chemistry, schedule cleaning, adjust temperature and control lighting from a smartphone, making summer enjoyment effortless.
Get Ahead of the Summer Rush
London Swimming Pool Company recommends two winter services to keep your pool in great condition and tackle minor works at the ideal time. With expert care, your pool will be ready to sparkle the moment sunshine beckons.

Celebrating 30 Years of Wellness
This year marks a proud milestone for BETA Wellness UK (Riptide Pools Ltd.) — 30 years at our first showroom in Chelmsford serving our local communities there and in more recent years, also in our Sevenoaks and Ashford branches. Many will still remember us as Hot Tub Barn, but we’ve recently rebranded to reflect something much bigger than a name change.
Our new identity represents our commitment not just to relaxation, but to complete home wellness.
For three decades, we have helped families transform their gardens into spaces for connection, recovery and year-round enjoyment. With three showrooms in Chelmsford, Ashford and Sevenoaks, and a team whose experience spans many years — in some cases decades — we are proud to remain a trusted, family-feel business rooted in local knowledge and personal service.
The way we view outdoor living has changed. Today, a hot tub is more than a luxury feature; it’s a space to unwind after busy workdays, reconnect with family, and prioritise wellbeing. Our range of Riptide hot tubs and swim spas — including powerful exercise pools designed for low-impact training — reflects this shift. Swim spas in particular, have grown in popularity, offering the benefits of swimming, hydrotherapy and relaxation in one compact, energy-efficient solution.
As we enter our fourth decade, we’re expanding further into health-focused products. We are excited to be launching the BETA Wellness ice bath and infrared sauna range, bringing the benefits of contrast therapy, muscle recovery and stress reduction into the home. These additions mark an important step in our evolution from hot tub specialist to complete wellness provider. While our name has evolved, our ethos remains the same: honest advice, exceptional aftercare and a genuine passion for helping our customers invest in their wellbeing.
If you’re curious about how a hot tub, swim spa or home wellness space could enhance your lifestyle, our wellness teams would be delighted to welcome you and share the benefit of 30 years’ experience.

ECLISSE
In the world of contemporary interiors, where clean lines and architectural simplicity reign supreme, ECLISSE continues to push boundaries with its Syntesis Collection — a range designed to remove visual clutter and create seamless living environments.
At the heart of the collection is the Syntesis Pocket Door System, available for both timber and glass doors. Designed to slide effortlessly into the wall without the need for architraves, it allows walls to remain uninterrupted, delivering a crisp, minimalist finish. Ideal for modern apartments and luxury homes alike, it maximises usable space while maintaining a refined aesthetic.
Complementing this is the Syntesis Flush Hinged Door, which sits perfectly aligned with the wall surface. Free from visible frames or architraves, it can be finished in the same material or colour as the surrounding wall, enabling designers to create discreet passageways that blend effortlessly into the architecture.
For those seeking a bold architectural statement, the Syntesis 40 Degree Hinged Door introduces a striking angled frame detail. The 40° chamfer creates subtle shadow lines that add depth and interest, offering a contemporary twist on the traditional hinged door.
Glass also plays a key role within the collection. The Syntesis Glass Aluminium Framed Pocket
Door pairs slim aluminium profiles with expansive glazing, allowing light to flow between spaces while retaining convenient separation — a practical yet elegant solution for open-plan living.
Beyond doors, the collection extends to architectural details. The Syntesis Flush Skirting eliminates protruding skirting boards, sitting neatly within the wall line to maintain a continuous, pared-back finish throughout a space.
Looking ahead, ECLISSE UK will soon introduce the Syntesis Areo Collection — an exciting new development that promises to further refine the concept of flush design, continuing the brand’s commitment to innovation and understated luxury.
Together, the Syntesis Collection offers architects and designers a cohesive system for creating calm, contemporary interiors where form and function exist in perfect balance. eclisse.co.uk

Lighting with decadence
Glow Lighting reveals how lighting is playing its part in the emerging Neo Deco trend
Pinterest named it as one of the big interior trends of 2026, and now British lighting brand Glow Lighting is putting the ‘Neo Deco’ movement in the spotlight.
A 21st century take on the classic Art Deco movement, Neo Deco welcomes a new era of interior design where bold, glamourous pieces are used to create luxurious, yet liveable, homes.
Emily Butterill, Founder and Creative Director of Glow Lighting, said: “Neo Deco takes the classic styling of the Art Deco movement and reinterprets it for contemporary homes.
“It allows homeowners to showcase hero elements, with lighting often acting as both a functional feature and a decorative statement.”
As with the traditional Art Deco movement, bold geometrics are a signature of the Neo Deco trend, and lighting provides an easy way to introduce this important element.
Glow Lighting’s Humphrey is a perfect example, with its timeless silhouette and striking ribbed detailing. It works beautifully as either a pendant, wall light or table lamp and can be hung individually or grouped in a row across a kitchen island or dining room table.
For a softer interpretation, Florrie offers gentle curves and elegant detailing, ideal for introducing Neo Deco style in living rooms or bedrooms. With its subtle scalloped detailing, it pays homage to the arcs of the Art Deco movement.
Wanda, which is available in a myriad of bold colours, brings a more playful edge, combining a strong shape with characterful design that suits feature lighting.
Emily added: “Neo Deco lighting should feel special. Whether it’s a statement pendant or a pair of wall lights, the goal is to accentuate every space.”
Material choice is also important. Glass and metal finishes add depth and richness, and at Glow Lighting, all pieces are made in the UK from handspun metal and handblown glass.
Emily said: “There’s a real appreciation for craftsmanship within Neo Deco. People want pieces that feel considered and long-lasting, not disposable. Well-made lighting brings that sense of permanence and quality into a space.”

KISoriano Interior Design
The studio’s approach is grounded and practical, seeking luxurious and stylish outcomes. It begins before design is ever discussed. Meetings are unhurried, and conversation drifts easily through the weather, a meal, or the rhythm of a client’s day until the project naturally finds its focus. Listening is vital to the process. By the time plans are mentioned, there is already a sense of how the space needs to work, not just how it should look.
This way of working comes from an early understanding of how interiors shape daily life. It starts with ‘who’. Who is the person, how they move through a space, and what they value. Function leads, but aesthetics follow with equal force, integral to the design outcome. Growing up in environments where exterior and interior spaces were disconnected and frequently chaotic, Karen recognized early on that architecture is never neutral. When poorly conceived or badly executed, it unsettles the mind and diminishes the human experience. The built environment has a psychological weight; it can either elevate or erode wellbeing.
Rooted in her heritage and shaped by extensive travel, she witnessed the transformative power
of design done well. These are places where proportion, materiality, and context exist in quiet harmony that lasts for generations. In these spaces, one feels grounded, uplifted, and understood. This realization became a guiding principle: design is not aesthetic indulgence, but responsibility.
Every brief is stripped back to its core. Context is the integrator that brings together place, origin, and surroundings into the design, alongside layers of local craft and culture. Interior and exterior are conceived as one continuous narrative. A city home demands a different response to one in the countryside because the pace of life, environment, and climate shape the outcome.
Karen’s understanding of craftsmanship stems from time spent in her mother’s workroom,
surrounded by fabric and the steady rhythm of sewing machines. She watched how the patient, skillful manipulation of materials turns into drapery which, when hung voluminously, changes the energy in a room. She saw precision, mindfulness, and graceful execution. These values are fundamental to her and manifested in her early work. The project that holds a special place in Karen’s heart is Magna Hill, a tropical villa nested in a serene city village. Designed intuitively, it was a rewarding journey of creative output followed by the pleasure of seeing the vision materialize into an elegant residence harmonious to its surroundings. This experience could only be improved by working on a globally significant project.
Seeking to create from a design capital, she relocated to London for a masters degree at Chelsea College of Art and Design and took a position in the infamous David Collins Studio. Her sense of interiors was put to the test under rigorous critique from David himself when her first assignment was to design the presidential suite for the ultra-luxury Mandarin Oriental in Doha in his signature style. She immersed herself in a studio of boundary-pushing designers, working long hours refining and perfecting their craft. What she saw connected with memories of her mother’s workroom and solidified her understanding of the chemistry behind luxurious interior design.
In 2023, after working with several renowned global and London-based studios, Karen founded KISoriano Interior Design. Creating high-end residential interiors in London and the Middle East, the studio focuses on the continuation of her core principles. This is luxury shaped by people, places, and time, both personal and enduring.

Spring 2026: Styling modern country interiors
When rustic elegance and understated chic meet. Amthal Karim, Head of Design at Furniture And Choice comments.
“The start of a new year often promises hope and new beginnings. However, instead of racing full speed ahead with a million plans and ideas, sometimes it’s a good idea to start slowly and mindfully. Recent lifestyle trends reflect this, such as the ‘slow living’ and ‘joyspanning’ trend, which highlight our desire to appreciate the present moment and quality of life. These trends have also influenced interior decor styles like country decor, cottagecore and modern farmhouse interiors.
Country-inspired interiors have gained popularity over the past few years on TikTok with modern farmhouse amassing over 60k posts. Compared to cottagecore, country-style interiors are less whimsical, adopting a more practical and rustic approach with classic elements, natural textures, and an earthy palette.
Gone are the days when country interiors feel old-fashioned and uninviting. Modern country style bridges the gap between classic country style and contemporary design. What’s the key to achieving this look? Choosing a statement furniture piece is one way to start. A contemporary style sofa with a classic silhouette and soft curves is an ideal statement piece that doesn’t shout and is understated. Light, contemporary plush fabric upholstery is hard-wearing and makes it easy to layer while remaining elegant on its own.
Layering with the right textures and accessories
“Modern country style bridges the gap between classic country style and contemporary design”
like ruffles, frills, wicker and rattan are essential in country-style interiors. Traditional country interiors take inspiration from the outdoors – think relaxing country walks and leafy colour palettes. Mixing different wood tones helps create a layered and lived-in feel, like choosing light wood flooring and dark wood accents for furniture.
Colour psychology plays an important part in making country decor look chic. Green’s connection to the countryside and outdoors makes it an easy pick for this decor style. Different shades or hues of green from olive to sage, set the mood depending on whether you want to lighten or make the space feel moody. Soft jade tones and celadon green are currently trending and are in the Pinterest colour report and are great picks as we move towards spring. For those who want to add bigger pops of colour, burnt orange or terracotta accents help give the space a rustic charm.” furniturechoice.co.uk

TRANSFORM YOUR BEDROOM INTO A WELLNESS SANCTUARY WITH FRENCH BEDROOM
Decorating for wellness is set to be a major trend in 2026. The heart of French Bedroom’s approach to bedroom design has always been to create bedrooms that nurture both body and mind, with carefully curated natural materials, calming colours, and tactile textures layered together to foster tranquillity.
The Heart of Your Sanctuary: The Perfect Bed
The foundation of a wellness-focused bedroom begins with the bed itself, and French Bedroom’s Love Story collection is crafted with the restorative power of natural materials at its core. Organic textures and breathable fibres, often celebrated for their high vibrational qualities, are believed to interact positively with the body’s energy,
promoting a calmer, more grounded environment. These qualities lie at the heart of a truly rejuvenating space.
The Love Story Naturelle Bed, with its solid oak frame and natural linen upholstery, creates a serene and stabilising presence in the room. Oak brings a sense of durability and connection to nature, while linen, renowned not only for its temperatureregulating and hypoallergenic properties but also for its uplifting vibrational energy which supports deeper, more comfortable rest.
The Love Story Sérénité Rattan Bed embodies this connection to the natural world. Its handwoven rattan and satin-varnished oak frame evoke artisanal warmth and countryside tranquillity, introducing organic texture that softens the space and subtly lowers sensory stress.
For those who prefer a cocoon-like retreat, the Love Story Cocoon Bed, with its gently curved, tactilely inviting upholstered headboard, wraps the sleeper in softness.
These beds demonstrate how natural materials are not just aesthetic but essential elements in creating a bedroom that nurtures wellbeing at every level, from physical comfort to subtle energetic alignment.
Layering Textures and Accents for Calm Layering thoughtfully selected bedding and accessories on these natural foundations completes the sanctuary. The Wildflower Quilted Bedspread brings gentle, tactile warmth, while the Tumbling Roses Bed Linen introduces delicate, meadowinspired prints that echo the tranquillity of woodland calm.
Cushions crafted from linen and textured fabrics invite the body to slow down and connect through touch. Underfoot, natural-fibre rugs offer grounding warmth and a reminder of organic simplicity.
Lighting plays a vital role in nurturing a restorative atmosphere. Gentle, diffused light from rattan wall lights creates a soft, dappled glow reminiscent of sunlight filtered through leaves, extending the biophilic narrative into the evening hours.
With each element, colour, texture, light and natural material, working in harmony, the room becomes a sanctuary where the senses are soothed, the mind feels anchored, and the body can fully unwind.
“We create bedrooms that are both beautiful and restorative, championing femininity to enable women to have a room of one’s own. Designed by

THE REAL THING
Authenticity takes the lead as The Baked Tile Company launches new Zellige and Terracotta tile collections
British tile specialist The Baked Tile Company is putting authenticity in the spotlight as it launches two new tile collections.
Introducing Baked Real Terracotta Parquet and Baked Real Zellige White.
Embracing variation, texture and subtle irregularity, Baked Real Terracotta Parquet and Baked Real Zellige White weave imperfect magic into walls and floors.
Baked Real Terracotta Parquet tiles are bursting with warmth and character, with tonal shifts and
surface variations that bring depth and softness to floors.
Meanwhile, Baked Real Zellige White channels centuries-old Moroccan craftsmanship, with gently uneven edges and a glaze that dances between matt and glossy to create movement across walls.
Lesley Taylor, Founder of The Baked Tile Company, said: “These tiles are all about authenticity and variation is part of their charm. The subtle differences in tone, texture and finish are what gives them life and ensures every installation feels unique.”
With both new collections, layout plays a huge role in the finished look. The elongated Terracotta Parquet tile works beautifully when laid in a herringbone style, adding rhythm and warmth to kitchens, hallways and living spaces.
The smaller, square Zellige tiles are striking when installed with no spacers, which allows the tile’s natural, uneven edges to create the classic undulating surface Zellige is known for.
Lesley said: “When you’re working with tiles like these, simplicity is often best. Let the material do the talking and avoid overcomplicating the design with too many competing elements.”
Lesley added: “These tiles suit a relaxed mindset. If you embrace the imperfections rather than fight them, the end result feels timeless, tactile and full of character.”
