Bespoke jewellery offers the rare opportunity to create something entirely individual, a piece shaped with intention and crafted to endure for generations.
At Baker Brothers, bespoke design is approached as a considered and collaborative process. Every commission begins with conversation, allowing time to understand the story behind the piece and the person it is intended for. Whether marking an engagement, celebrating achievement or honouring a personal milestone, the journey is guided by meaning rather than momentary trend, ensuring the finished piece feels personal from the very beginning.
Ideas evolve naturally through discussion and refinement, gradually taking form through sketch and design development. Proportion, balance and wearability are considered alongside aesthetic vision, ensuring each creation integrates effortlessly into everyday life rather than being reserved solely for occasion. Every element, from precious metal to setting style, is selected with care, allowing the final design to achieve quiet sophistication and lasting relevance.
The Baker Brothers Diamond Grade Gemstone selection represents one of the defining moments within the bespoke journey. While diamonds are universally assessed according to the 4Cs, these recognised measures form only the foundation of selection at Baker Brothers.
Through the Baker Brothers Diamond Grade, each stone is considered beyond certification to identify those distinguished by exceptional balance, brilliance and integrity. Only around twenty per cent are selected each year, forming a collection composed exclusively of exceptional gemstones and offering confidence whatever size or grade is chosen.

From initial concept to final creation, every stage is approached with patience and precision. Master jewellers bring each design to life using time-honoured techniques supported by modern innovation, carefully shaping, setting and finishing every detail by hand. The result is jewellery distinguished not only by refinement, but by the emotion and meaning it carries.
Begin your bespoke journey
The bespoke experience awaits at our boutique, where private consultations offer dedicated time to explore ideas and possibilities.
Whether arriving with a clear vision or the beginnings of an idea, each commission unfolds at its own pace, resulting in a piece created to be worn, treasured and passed from one generation to the next.

Discovering that you will not share in a parent’s or loved one’s estate can come as a real shock. This could occur if they’ve not got a Will or if they have, then that Will does not make provision for them. For many people, the issue is not about money but about feeling overlooked or misunderstood at a deeply emotional time.
The first thing to know is that being excluded does not always mean there is nothing you can do. While people are generally free to leave their estate as they wish, the law also recognises that certain close family members and dependants may need financial support.
Under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975, some individuals are entitled to ask the Court to consider whether the Will, or the rules of intestacy, made adequate reasonable financial provision for them. This scenario might affect adult children who were financially dependent on a parent, individuals who provided care in later life, long-term partners who lived together but never married and even surviving spouses.
Timing is particularly important. A claim under the Inheritance Act must be brought within 6 months of issue of the Grant of Representation. Many people delay seeking advice in the hope that matters will resolve themselves within the family,

“A claim under the Inheritance Act must be brought within 6 months of issue of the Grant of Representation”
only to discover later that their legal options have become limited.
It is also worth understanding that not every sense of unfairness gives rise to a claim. Your legal advisor will, however, be able to provide advice on whether you have grounds to advance a claim. Importantly, many inheritance disputes are resolved through negotiation rather than Court proceedings. Taking early, discreet advice can help you understand your position and decide how best to move forward.
If you are facing an inheritance dispute, early advice is crucial. Understanding your position, your rights, and the time limits that apply can help you make informed decisions at a difficult moment and, where possible, prevent the situation from permanently dividing a family. Feel free to reach out to our team for advice if you find yourself in this situation.

Along the Essex coastline, Mersea Island has quietly built a reputation as a place where time seems to move at a different pace. Shaped by tidal creeks, working harbours and wide coastal skies, the island offers a contrast to the routines of everyday life, without feeling remote or out of reach.
West Mersea Coastal Holiday Park is set within this distinctive landscape, overlooking West Mersea Beach and its line of pastel-coloured beach huts. The park’s location reflects much of what draws people to this part of the country: a balance between accessibility and retreat. At just ten miles from Colchester and within easy reach of London, it is well placed for short breaks, yet far enough

away to feel like a genuine change of scene.
The coastline here is often associated with the UK’s ‘Sunshine Coast’, a title that reflects both the area’s relatively mild climate and its enduring appeal as a seaside destination. Life on the island is closely connected to the water, with sailing, fishing and other water sports forming part of the local culture. For others, the attraction lies in quieter pursuits - walking the shoreline, watching boats return to harbour, or spending an afternoon in one of the island’s independent cafés.
Within the park itself, the atmosphere remains deliberately low-key. Onsite facilities are designed to complement the informal character of the surroundings rather than dominate them, allowing the natural setting to take precedence. The extended 11-month season reflects the year-round nature of island life, offering opportunities to experience Mersea beyond the summer months, when the landscape becomes calmer and more reflective.
In an age where leisure time is increasingly fragmented, the appeal of a holiday home on Mersea Island lies in continuity. It offers a familiar place to return to, shaped by changing seasons and repeated visits, where time can be spent away from schedules and screens, reconnecting with both people and place.

“This year has been a defining chapter for me and my business here in St Albans. As a young and growing brand, I set out with a clear vision: to help women — and men — build confidence inside and out through personal styling, shopping experiences and holistic wellbeing coaching.
Through personal styling and curated shopping sessions, I support my fashion clients in stepping forward with courage and clarity. As we refine wardrobes and make intentional choices together, they begin to radiate more of who they truly are. Their personality shines through, their confidence feels grounded, and their presence becomes magnetic. They do not simply look different — they embody a more elevated version
Rebecca Howarth is reflecting on a landmark year for Harriet Kelsall Bespoke Jewellery, where, in 2025, she was appointed as Managing Director and the company transitioned to an EmployeeOwned Trust.
As well as this, the team had another year of welcoming customers across their 4 studios, hosting Herts Open Studios, and running raffles, cleaning events and live jewellery making demonstrations to support Rennie Grove Hospice Care, St Albans, and Garden House Hospice in North Herts. Alongside these charitable efforts, the company reached another milestone, celebrating 20 years of bringing bespoke to Green Street, Cambridge.
It was also a year of recognition within the jewellery industry, becoming finalists at the NAJ Awards 2025 and UK Retail Jeweller Awards for Bespoke Jeweller of the Year.

I have seen them feel truly transformed and empowered, successfully implementing new habits that leave them happier, healthier and more aligned. Whether in person or online, I guide them as they build lifestyles rooted in self-respect and balance. I created my business as a holistic brand because when you look good, you feel good — and when you feel good, you look good. “I’ve spent over 20 years in the fitness industry, beginning as a class instructor before competing and earning professional status as a figure athlete. It was during that time my love for gyms truly grew, and I went on to help scale a small local company from one site to seven as COO, building it into a multi-million pound brand. Building businesses from the ground up has been my life’s work, and I know firsthand the courage, resilience, and belief it takes to step into leadership.
Today, I’m a business mentor for health and wellness professionals who are ready to create their own space, whether that’s opening a studio, a wellness facility, launching a gym, or building a brand that reflects their values and expertise. From securing premises to refining their offer and strategy, I guide them to build with confidence, clarity, and strong foundations.”

“For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved fashion and the confidence it gives you. As a Personal Stylist, there is nothing more rewarding than helping people rediscover their style and feel incredible in what they wear.
I run a busy and successful personal styling business, Edits Styling, based in Harpenden, working with clients locally, across the county and into London. I qualified at the London College of Fashion in 2013 and have spent the past decade helping women and men create wardrobes that truly work for their lives. My clients come from all walks of life, with different budgets, lifestyles and style challenges, but they all share one goal: to look and feel their best.
More than a decade after launching my business, I am incredibly proud of the relationships I build with my clients. Personal style is about so much more than clothes; it’s about confidence, identity and how you show up in the world.

With International Women’s Day this month, it feels like the perfect moment to celebrate the power of confidence. When a woman feels good in what she’s wearing, it can change everything — and being part of that transformation is what I love most about my job.”

Lavender has been grown in and around Hitchin for hundreds of years and museum is homage to this. Perks and Llewellyn was an apothecary located in Hitchin town centre until the 1960’s, Hitchin Historical Society have kindly loaned us much of the shops furniture and its artefacts which help give visitors an insight into the use of lavender throughout Victorian times.
We have over 30 acres of lavender containing a wide range of varieties for you to explore. You’ll be able to wander wherever you like within the field and pick some lavender to take home with you. We’ll provide a paper bag for collecting lavender which can be picked up at the entrance to the field. We kindly request that you bring your own scissors to help support our additional safety measures currently in place due to COVID-19. We advise that the lavender should only be cut from the sides of the bushes, not from the top. Our main flowering season is between mid-June and late August. Amateur photography is welcomed!
We have many varieties of British wild flowers in our meadow including Common Knapweed, Lady’s Bedstraw, Poppy, Tufted Vetch, Cornflower and Field Forget-Me-Not. The meadow can be found towards the right hand side of our main field and will usually be in flower from early summer.
Our top tips for growing lavender at home: Ideally, lavender prefers to be planted in a

porous soil, such as sand or chalk. Chalk is ideal as it is slightly alkaline and allows for rain water to permeate through.
Lavender can grow in a non-porous soil, such as clay, if sand or grit or something that allows drainage is mixed in.
Here at the farm, we’re lucky to have ideal growing conditions as the soil is chalky and the slope of our field allows for a high amount of surface run-off, meaning that our lavender doesn’t sit in water for too long.
Lavender likes to be in a place that will get a lot of sun but so long as the plant is well aerated, it will still thrive.
When first planted, lavender needs help to become established in the ground and will need watering for the first seven to ten days or so. Once established, it won’t need any additional watering aside from incidental rainfall. If you’re planning to keep your lavender plant in a pot you will however, need to keep watering it occasionally. It doesn’t necessarily need any extra feed to help it become established.
There can be flexibility when it comes to harvesting your lavender stems. If you’re cutting

your plant for fresh flowers, you can cut them whenever you like. For dried lavender, they should ideally be picked just before the petals (corollas) open up.
When pruning, stems should be cut above the greenery, about two inches above the old wood. This will allow for new growth for next season. If the stem is cut too far down into the old wood, it can damage or even kill off a plant. Lavender will survive just as happily if pruned once the lavender heads have lost all their colour.
There are 39 species of lavender worldwide and within each species there are hundreds of varieties, meaning that there are many different colours, scents and foliage types to choose from.
We have 2 main species that are farmed at Hitchin Lavender. They are Lavandula Angustifolia and Lavandula x Intermedia, although you’ll be able to see 60 varieties growing in our display field and 10 varieties in our main field.
Angustifolia is a very valuable species of lavender because of the high quality oil that is produced by the plants. The oils can be used in perfume, cosmetics, for aromatherapy and utilised as an antiseptic. Its typical flowering period is from mid-June to late July. It is an extremely hardy plant and fairly forgiving of pruning mistakes! It has a shorter stem than other species and more contained greenery, making it a good option for domestic use.
Intermedia is a hybrid plant which comes from a combination of Angustifolia and Latifolia lavenders. Many varieties of Intermedia are used for producing commercial oil and dried bunches, as the yields from these plants are up to three times greater than Angustifolia. Intermedia is also very hardy with a flowering period from early July through to September.
If you’d like to pick a variety of lavender that can be found in our fields, you’ll find a selection of Angustifolia and Intermedia plants, available in two different pot sizes in our farm shop.
Dogs are welcome on-site so long as they are kept on a lead and any doggy deposits are cleared

away by their owners.
The lavender attracts a diverse mix of wildlife, in particular bees. You’ll be able to see many bees amongst the lavender rows. Much of the other wildlife may be harder to spot but the farm is home to hares, butterflies, insects, partridges, skylarks and more.
Experience a different view of Hitchin Lavender and the surrounding countryside by walking along the public footpaths which intersect our farm alongside our main field and outbuildings.
Professional photography is allowed anytime during our general opening hours but is subject to an additional fee.

Education today is about far more than academic results alone. While strong examination outcomes remain important, there is growing recognition that young people must also be equipped with the skills and mindset needed to thrive in an increasingly complex and fast-changing world. Preparing students for life beyond the classroom has become a central focus of modern education.
Critical thinking is one of the most valuable skills students can develop. In a digital age where information is abundant, the ability to analyse, question and evaluate ideas is essential. Encouraging curiosity and independent thought helps young people become confident decisionmakers, capable of navigating challenges both in further education and in their future careers
Equally important is creativity. Whether expressed through the arts, problem-solving or innovation, creativity allows students to approach situations with flexibility and imagination.
Education that values creative thinking alongside academic rigour fosters resilience and adaptability – qualities that are increasingly sought after in higher education and the workplace.

“Critical thinking is one of the most valuable skills students can develop. In a digital age where information is abundant, the ability to analyse, question and evaluate ideas is essential”
Communication and collaboration also play a vital role. Learning to articulate ideas clearly, listen to others and work effectively as part of a team prepares students for real-world environments. These skills are developed not only through classroom discussion, but also through group projects, extracurricular activities and community engagement.
Wellbeing has become another key consideration in education. Supporting emotional resilience, self-confidence and balance enables students to perform at their best academically while maintaining a healthy relationship with learning. Schools that prioritise wellbeing help young people develop coping strategies that will serve them long after formal education ends.
Finally, a broader perspective on global citizenship is essential, particularly in a diverse and international city like London. Exposure to different cultures, viewpoints and experiences encourages empathy, open-mindedness and a sense of responsibility beyond one’s immediate surroundings.
By combining academic excellence with personal development, modern education aims to nurture well-rounded individuals who are prepared not only for exams, but for life. In doing so, it empowers young people to step confidently into the future, ready to contribute positively to society and adapt to whatever challenges lie ahead.

Merchant Taylors’ Prep School, set in 15 acres of leafy grounds in Northwood, delivers the best of both worlds: a strong academic tradition with an extensive range of co-curricular and sporting activities. Located just minutes from Merchant Taylors’ senior school, it provides an excellent all-through option for high-achieving pupils.
The new Head, Miles Chester, who joined in September, brings extensive experience and a fresh, dynamic approach to the school. He is proud of the prep school’s quality of teaching and the holistic education it offers. “Through an enriched curriculum, we foster every opportunity for pupils to develop their individual potential, nurturing their unique passions, interests and aspirations. The foundation we provide ensures they are equipped with the skills and confidence to transition seamlessly to senior school,” said Mr. Chester.
The focus on the individual pupil is central to the Taylors’ ethos. From the very beginning, teachers take the time to get to know each pupil and their abilities, within a small-class setting. This allows enquiring minds to develop in an

environment where each pupil is given a sense of belonging that helps them to achieve.
Through an extensive programme of extracurricular clubs and activities, boys are encouraged to try new things and explore their talents and creativity. The school uses sport to reinforce its ethos and to instil discipline, teamwork, fair play, responsibility and respect.
Having the senior school nearby offers numerous opportunities for collaboration, particularly in sports, music and academics. With pupils now transitioning to senior school at the end of Year 6, the school is expanding its intake for Year 3 from September 2026. “This is a great opportunity for able pupils with potential to join our school and benefit from a well-balanced education and smooth transition to the senior school”, Mr Chester added.

Leading co-educational Hertfordshire independent school St Margaret’s in Bushey have announced the appointment of Ben Turner as new headteacher from August 2026. Ben will be only the second male headteacher to lead the School on its Bushey site since it opened there in 1897.

Under current head, Lara Péchard’s leadership the School has moved to be fully co-educational and grown to over 800 pupils from ages 2 to 18.
Ben brings wide-ranging experience in wholeschool leadership and a deep commitment to ensuring that every child is given the strongest possible foundation for their future. He will build on the exceptional work and legacy of Lara Péchard, guiding the school into its next chapter with energy, ambition and care.
Ben is currently Senior Deputy Head at Wimbledon High School, one of the leading schools in the country, educating more than 1,100 pupils aged 4 to 18. During eight years in senior leadership within a through-school setting, he has played a central role in shaping whole-school strategy and culture, with responsibility spanning academic and pastoral provision from the Junior years through to Sixth Form.
He believes firmly that young people flourish when treated as individuals - given genuine autonomy, encouraged to build confidence and supported in discovering who they are and who they aspire to become at every stage of their development.
Prior to this role, Ben spent eight years at Whitgift
School, where he rose to a senior leadership position within a Sixth Form of over 400 students. There, he focused on fostering strong relationships and celebrating not only students’ academic achievements but also their personal growth.
A passionate historian, Ben holds a master’s degree in modern history. Outside of school life, he enjoys running, skiing and climbing, and values the role that challenge and outdoor experiences play in young people’s personal development.
“St Margaret’s has a distinctive and increasingly sought after place in the independent sector”
He currently lives in South East London with his wife and young family and has commented: “St Margaret’s has a distinctive and increasingly sought after place in the independent sector: academically ambitious, personally invested and deeply rooted in its community. Families are looking for an education that combines genuine care with high expectation, where empowerment is meaningful, and every individual matters. This is a school that pursues excellence without losing sight of the whole child. I am proud to lead St Margaret’s into its next chapter, building on its strong momentum and ensuring that its values-led approach continues to attract families who want something more human, more ambitious, and more enduring.”
Chair of Governors, Laurence Miller said: “Following an extensive search with an extraordinarily large number of applicants of extremely high calibre, I am delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Ben Turner as our new headteacher. Ben interviewed as an exemplary candidate with wide experiences both in the academic and pastoral sides of schools, together with a vision for leadership and direction for our wonderful school for the future. Choosing the right school is one of the most important decisions a parent can make.
At Haberdashers’ Elstree Schools, students benefit from an exceptional education that blends the best of single-sex learning with the benefits of a co-educational environment.
Set on a stunning 100-acre campus in Elstree, Hertfordshire, Habs Boys and Habs Girls offer an inspiring education for students aged four to 18, encouraging intellectual ambition, strong character, and a commitment to make a profound impact in the world.
Last year, Habs achieved an incredible double recognition: winning both the award for Outstanding Educational Partnerships and the overall top accolade of Independent School of the Year 2025. The judging panel praised the school for staying true to its vision, combining academic excellence with the ambition to make a meaningful difference in the world.
With a mission to be at the forefront of education, the schools offer a dynamic and forward-thinking curriculum designed to equip students with independence, resilience, and an open mind. Innovation is embedded throughout school life, with the Director of Innovation driving initiatives that prepare students for an evolving digital landscape.
At the heart of Habs Elstree’s success is a clearly defined purpose: to empower young people to make a real difference. Their Partnerships Programme is a pioneering initiative with six
local state schools aimed at building educational opportunities for communities with average or above-average levels of disadvantage. Each week, Habs delivers over 52 hours of curriculum support and enrichment to almost 2,000 students, involving 500 Habs pupils and 56 staff.
As well as fostering the leadership skills that are central to being a Habs student, the programme improved attendance among disadvantaged pupils by 10.1% – not just for those in the programme, but at school overall – that’s the equivalent to a full extra day of school every two weeks.
While academic excellence remains a hallmark of a Habs education, a comprehensive pastoral care programme nurtures students’ emotional, social, and spiritual development. An outstanding range of co-curricular activities allows students to explore their interests and talents beyond the classroom.
With world-class facilities, ongoing campus investment, and a strong commitment to social responsibility, Habs continues to evolve, empowering students to make a profound impact in the world and exemplifying the very best of independent education today.

“This year’s Independent School of the Year has demonstrated its resilience in staying true to its vision, rather than swerving the challenges of the moment…It represents the very best qualities of the independent sector — a voice that helps the wider world to understand the powerful and positive impact of this sector.”
– Independent School of the Year

Across many of Britain’s leading professions, people educated in the private sector continue to be overrepresented in senior and decisionmaking roles. Recent research and ongoing public debate suggest that, despite progress in widening participation, educational background remains a powerful factor in shaping career trajectories across public life, business and the professions.
This pattern is particularly visible in areas such as politics, the judiciary and the armed forces, where senior leadership roles are more commonly held by those who attended independent schools. Similar trends can be seen in medicine, the civil service and the media, where private and selective educational pathways continue to feature prominently among those at the top.
In the corporate sector, many leaders of major British companies progressed through fee-paying schools and highly selective universities. The creative industries also reflect this imbalance, with a significant number of successful actors and performers having come through independent education, prompting wider discussion about access, representation and opportunity.
Supporters of independent education argue that its influence extends beyond academic results. Greater emphasis on confidence, communication, leadership and extracurricular engagement can
play an important role in preparing young people for competitive environments. Strong networks and exposure to wider opportunities are also often cited as contributing factors.

“The
higher echelons of journalism are also dominated by the private sector, with 51 per cent educated in independent schools”
At the same time, educators and policymakers continue to question how these advantages can be more evenly distributed. Improving access to high-quality teaching, enrichment activities and personal development opportunities across all school types remains a central challenge for the education system.
As conversations around social mobility and fairness continue, education remains at the heart of the debate. Understanding how different educational experiences shape outcomes is essential to creating a system that allows talent to flourish, regardless of background — and ensures that leadership across British society reflects the full breadth of ability within it.

Staff at Sarum Hall School are lacing up their walking shoes and preparing to take on a sponsored half-marathon walk around London in support of their chosen charity of the year, Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice.
The charity supports babies, children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions, as well as their families.
Each year, the pupils vote to support a charity, organising a variety of fundraising initiatives and themed days to champion their cause. This year, staff decided it was their turn to contribute too.
The idea for the walk was spearheaded by Higher Level Teaching Assistant Miss Burrows following a conversation with Head of Pastoral Care Mr Laws and Teaching Assistant Miss Furlong.
Miss Burrows said: “The idea began when we were discussing how we could best support our school charity. I walked Yr Wyddfa last summer and we talked about how great it would be to take on a walk together. Turning it into a charity event felt like the perfect way. When the pupils chose Noah’s Ark as our charity, we felt even more strongly that we should raise both awareness and funds. We shared the idea with the rest of the staff, and the response was overwhelming”.
The team plan to walk a half marathon on Saturday 14th March. They will start at Big Ben
and walk back to their school, taking in some of London’s iconic sites along the way.
Miss Burrows added: “I’m sure we are going to be exhausted, but hopefully there will be a nice pub at the end of it where we can all recuperate with lunch and tend to our sore feet!”
The school community has already demonstrated its commitment to the charity, smashing an ambitious £10,000 fundraising target by the end of its first term. Faye Armitage, Community Engagement Officer at Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice visited and said, “It was a joy to visit and see the compassion and enthusiasm of the pupils. They were genuinely engaged, asked thoughtful questions, and showed a real understanding of what it means to support children and families in their own community.”

Adeep respect for craftsmanship is the mantra by which the Franses family heart beats. Franses Jewellers believes that fine jewellery should be thoughtfully designed, carefully made, and created to endure. This philosophy is brought to life through the work of James Franses, whose designs represent the fourth generation of a family tradition rooted in creativity and skill.
James Franses plays an integral role in shaping the identity of Franses today. With a background steeped in both traditional techniques and contemporary design, many of the jewellery collections are designed and crafted in-house, allowing for a level of detail and individuality that defines the brand. Each piece reflects a balance between timeless elegance and modern refinement, ensuring it feels relevant while retaining its character.
Designing and making jewellery in-house allows for a more personal approach. From the earliest sketches to the final polish, every stage is guided by an understanding of the significance jewellery holds for those who wear it. Whether creating a bespoke engagement ring or a refined everyday piece, the focus remains the same: to create

jewellery that feels meaningful, beautifully made, and destined to be cherished for generations.
James’s work is mastered by technical expertise and an intuitive sense of style. Inspiration is often drawn from classic forms and subtle detailing. Diamonds and precious gemstones are selected for their quality and character, while each design is carefully considered to ensure longevity — both in craftsmanship and aesthetic. Through this approach, Franses jewellery continues to evolve while remaining true to its foundations.
This commitment to quality and creativity is inseparable from the wider Franses story — a story shaped by family, and a lifelong passion for fine jewellery.
The origins of Franses Jewellers can be traced back to a moment of quiet curiosity. Jeff Franses’ journey began simply by walking past a jewellery shop and being drawn in by a watch displayed in the window. It was a Patek Philippe timepiece, remarkable for its unusual shape and understated elegance. That moment sparked a fascination that would grow into a lifelong dedication to jewellery and horology.
Jeff’s keen eye for detail and natural appreciation for antique jewellery became defining traits. Over time, this instinctive understanding of craftsmanship and design laid the foundations for what Franses would become. Antique jewellery continues to influence the values of the business today — reinforcing the importance of quality,

“Jeff Franses’ journey began simply by walking past a jewellery shop and being drawn in by a watch displayed in the window. It was a Patek Philippe timepiece, remarkable for its unusual shape and understated elegance”

provenance, and thoughtful design.
As the business developed, it remained firmly rooted in family values. Knowledge was passed down through generations, not only in terms of technical expertise, but in an understanding of service, integrity, and trust. Jewellery, after all, often marks life’s most meaningful moments, and Franses has always recognised the responsibility that comes with being part of those stories.
Today, as a fourth-generation family jeweller, Franses continues to honour that legacy while embracing the future. The business remains proudly independent, shaped by decades of experience and a shared passion for excellence. Its long-standing presence on Westover Road reflects a deep connection to Bournemouth and its community.
From Jeff’s first moment of inspiration to James’s contemporary designs, with the added visual merchandising skillset of Beverly Franses, and Jemma Franses’s exceptional customer service, Franses Jewellers represents a continuity of vision. Each piece tells a story — not only of the materials and the maker, but of a family whose heritage continues to shape every detail. franses.co.uk

In 2026, beauty is embracing a gentler, more luminous approach. Moving away from sculpted contours, rigid eyeliner, and bold lips, makeup is now all about soft radiance — a subtle glow that highlights your natural features rather than masking them. Skin appears dewy and fresh, lips hold a delicate wash of colour, and eyes are softly defined. It’s a look that feels modern yet timeless, editorial yet approachable — ideal for readers in London who appreciate elegance that doesn’t feel overworked.
The key to this trend is letting natural texture shine. Heavy powders and matte foundations are replaced with lightweight, hydrating formulas that enhance rather than cover. Cream blushes, tinted moisturizers, and sheer foundations create a healthy, lit-from-within effect. Layering is understated: cheeks, lips, and eyes are harmonized,
yet precise lines are intentionally avoided. The result is a look that feels effortless and lived-in while remaining polished and cohesive. Lips play a starring role. Instead of crisp lines or opaque matte finishes, makeup artists suggest sheer, buildable colour applied with fingertips or a soft brush. The effect is a natural, justtouched appearance that mirrors real lip tones. Cheeks reflect these same soft hues, and eyes remain neutral — soft browns, warm taupes, and muted roses create definition without harshness. Highlighter is applied sparingly, accentuating contours while keeping the overall glow subtle. Eyes continue the theme of understated elegance. Rather than dramatic eyeliner or deep smokey shadows, muted shades define the eye softly. Mascara is applied to enhance length and lift without clumping or over-separation. The goal

is approachable sophistication: a look suitable for daytime meetings, evening events, or spontaneous photoshoots. Its versatility is a driving factor in its popularity in fashion-forward cities like London. Technique remains central to the soft-radiance aesthetic. Fingers, soft brushes, and sponges are preferred to diffuse edges and blend colours seamlessly. Products are layered lightly, allowing cream blushes and multi-use balms to meld with the skin. Lips are gently patted rather than outlined, while highlighters are placed strategically on high points to enhance dimension without excessive shimmer. Subtlety is paramount: enhancement takes precedence over perfection. This trend aligns with wider cultural shifts in beauty, emphasizing authenticity, versatility, and effortless sophistication. It allows wearers to celebrate individuality, showing polished yet approachable looks that fit busy, modern lifestyles. Products designed for this aesthetic — sheer lip oils, lightweight foundations, luminous blushes, and multipurpose balms — make achieving soft radiance simple, whether you’re a makeup novice or seasoned enthusiast.

By Mr Gavin Schaller, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Pinehill Hospital

If you have noticed pain at the base of your thumb when performing everyday activities such as opening jars, turning keys, or even holding your phone, you are not alone. Base of thumb arthritis is one of the most common forms of osteoarthritis. As a hand surgeon, it is one of the most common problems I see and treat.
The joints where the thumb meets the wrist works incredibly hard, allowing us to pinch, grip, and twist — movements we take for granted and use hundreds of times a day without thinking. Over time, the smooth cartilage that cushions the joints can wear away resulting in progressive pain, weakness, stiffness, and deformity.
Everyday life can become more difficult with simple household tasks, gardening and playing sports resulting in pain. Many people put up with this, but when the problem becomes too much, small changes can make a big difference.

Simple adjustments help reduce strain on the joint:
• Use jar openers and kitchen gadgets with larger handles
• Carry bags over your forearm rather than gripping tightly
• Choose lightweight cookware and kettles
• Use both hands to lift heavier items
• Try a low profile, supportive thumb splint during painful activities
Hand therapy exercises can also strengthen supporting muscles and improve joint control. If symptoms persist, treatments range from anti-inflammatory medication and steroid injections to surgery in more severe cases. There are a number of surgical options that can be performed depending on the situation and thumb joint replacement is now a well-established option, providing excellent pain relief and movement for the right person. The key is that no one should feel they simply have to “put up with it.”
Persistent thumb pain isn’t just a nuisance – it’s treatable, and help is available. At Pinehill and Rivers Hospitals, we provide fast and convenient access to treatment and are here to help and support you every step of the way.

In a world that often moves too quickly, many of us carry tension, fatigue and inflammation without realising how deeply it affects our wellbeing. Megan Olive Lymphatics offers a gentle, restorative pause - treatments designed not only to help you feel better, but to help your body function better too.

At the heart of the practice is Brazilianinspired lymphatic drainage, delivered with a holistic approach that respects the body as an interconnected system.
Using precise, rhythmic movements, the treatment stimulates lymph flow - the fluid network responsible for removing metabolic waste and supporting immunity. When this system becomes sluggish, we may experience puffiness, bloating, heaviness, low energy and skin congestion.
Clients frequently notice an immediate sense of lightness after treatment, along with reduced fluid retention, improved digestion and a smoother appearance to the skin. Beyond the visible changes, lymphatic work supports circulation, nervous system regulation and the body’s natural detoxification processes - helping you feel calmer, clearer and more balanced.
Treatments can be particularly supportive during periods of hormonal fluctuation, recovery from illness or surgery, chronic stress, fatigue, or simply when the body feels overwhelmed.
Alongside hands-on therapy, targeted red light therapy is incorporated to work at a cellular level. This gentle, non-invasive light encourages collagen production, calms inflammation and supports tissue repair. It can assist skin health,
healing and overall vitality, while also helping regulate the body’s natural restorative processes. Many clients describe it as deeply relaxing - a warmth that allows the body to shift into rest and repair.
Every appointment is tailored to the individual. Some clients come seeking sculpting and debloating, others support for recovery, skin concerns or nervous system regulation. Often, they leave with something less tangible but equally valuable - a feeling of reset.
Megan’s background in sports massage laid the anatomical foundations for her work, but her practice has evolved towards a gentler, whole-body approach. Her philosophy is simple: the body is intelligent and responsive when supported in the right way.
Holistic therapy does not replace medicine - it complements it, encouraging the body’s natural healing responses.
More than a treatment, Megan Olive Lymphatics offers space to slow down, rebalance and reconnect - where wellbeing is felt both inside and out.

In the words of Lao Tzu, “To know others is wisdom. To know yourself is enlightenment.” Hobbies are the embodiment of self-understanding, much like building our dream homes. They are pursuits we engage in not for financial gain or outside recognition, but for the enrichment of our human experience.
Therefore, it is paramount that your space can play host to the things you love most. From vinyl aficionados to gaming gurus, knitting maestros to grail collectors, the rule is simple: have at least one room that is, essentially, a larger extension of your brain’s greatest daydreams. For all you passion seekers out there, here are the starting points for building your ultimate hobby hideout.
The core concept:
You want to be able to tell a story that sparks curiosity — one that builds anticipation in any like-minded individuals (whether they want to hear it or not) about how this room creates the single greatest experience you could hope for.
For example, Brionvega is one of the foremost speaker system innovators in the world and has been creating audiological marvels since the 50s. Their mid-century charm, paired with decades of sound-engineering majesty, delivers one of the world’s best vinyl listening experiences. Like many legends of niche interests, Achille Castiglioni’s

Radiofonografo even has an official owners’ club for those who belong to this exclusive group.
Absolute cinema – Movie Watchers: Now that we’ve discussed the DNA of the perfect personal space, let’s explore which pieces are ideal for the hobbies we love so dearly — starting with a personal favourite of mine. As all film geeks know, half the battle when getting into a movie happens off-screen. Not off-camera, but in the space around

you. Setting up your own personal cinema room is about as intimate as it gets for those of us who are fans of the silver screen.
Add some dramatic dimmable lamps and take on your own cinematic universe from the comfort of a Cassina armchair. Want the true multiplex experience? Invest in Poltrona Frau’s collaboration with camera legends Leica, which projects picture-perfect quality right from the TV unit into your home.
Music is the language of the world. Love stories are told, tragedies are compressed into three-minute sonatas, and a collection of your fondest memories exists in melodic form. It doesn’t even need lyrics for you to understand the message. Imagine keeping a library that contains all of that — you’d want it to be your own personal listening paradise.
Storage is usually a great place to start. You need somewhere to put the things you aren’t using, so you aren’t overwhelmed by materials and tools. Next comes seating — this needs to be mobile, adjustable, and able to fit comfortably within the rest of your space. Style is more of an optional extra in this regard. Finally, while we specialise in surfaces, we don’t want to recommend breaking out the paint-by-numbers on any of them, so we’ll leave that to you.

You’re going to need a place to sit back, store your special songs, and hear every note in pitch-perfect quality. The following steps are our recommended failsafe: combine bespoke storage from USM with that megastar of vintage aesthetics: the Eames Lounge Chair. Then dial it up to eleven (I tried to avoid the Spinal Tap reference — I really did) with a sound system from Brionvega or Transparent.
Other hobbies take a more DIY approach — for the practically-minded among us who pass the time quilting, crocheting, and painting to their heart’s content. After all, nothing makes a house feel more like a home than making space for your own creations, amplified further when those pieces are made within the boundaries of your abode. So, what path can you take to create the perfect crafting space?
“You’re going to need a place to sit back, store your special songs, and hear every note in pitch-perfect quality”
Is the local library still not quiet enough? Want to be the sole member of your own book club? The obvious prerequisite for this hobby is, of course, literature. But the design that transforms a space into your own reading room — one that lets the words transport you to another world from the comfort of home — is the ultimate goal. This one is a little looser on the guidelines: all the below are a matter of personal preference and are largely down to the individual. Pick a comfy chair (with a side table to match), a glowing floor lamp, and an even bigger bookcase — and you’ve got your reading room. Decorate the shelves with your favourite personal effects, and light a candle for added ambience.

At Mogra Interiors, we believe great design is about more than aestheticsit shapes the way we live. Our design philosophy centres on balance and thoughtful curation, creating homes that feel refined yet effortlessly liveable. Design should simplify life, bringing clarity and joy rather than complexity.
The Modern Home Challenge
Discerning families today often face time constraints and decision fatigue when it comes to renovating their homes. They may have ideas but struggle to translate them into cohesive designs, or they feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of choices in materials and layouts. This can lead to stalled projects and spaces that never quite reach their potential.
A home is more than a collection of rooms; it is a foundation for family life. When design decisions feel heavy or unclear, the emotional excitement of creating something beautiful can be replaced by stress. Our role is to remove that burden - guiding clients with expertise and structure so they can focus on the possibilities rather than the obstacles.
Our Collaborative Process
We work as partners, not just designers. Our step-by-step process begins with understanding

each client’s lifestyle and aspirations. From spatial planning to material selection, every decision is intentional and informed. We collaborate closely, ensuring clients feel confident and involved at each stage.
This approach addresses common pain points: simplifying complex choices, creating designs that feel cohesive, and delivering results that are both functional and aesthetically enduring. By focusing on the details, we create homes that reflect individuality while remaining timeless.
Homes for Modern Families
Our mission is to design spaces that enhance everyday living. A well-designed home should feel like a sanctuary - a place of comfort, connection, and ease. Whether refreshing a single room or undertaking a larger renovation, we bring care and expertise to every project.
Design is an investment in quality of life. At Mogra Interiors, we help families create spaces that reflect who they are and how they want to live.
Let’s Create Something Beautiful
If you are planning a home renovation or an interior refresh and would like expert guidance on creating a considered, family-friendly home, we would love to help.

Glow Lighting reveals how lighting is playing its part in the emerging Neo Deco trend
Pinterest named it as one of the big interior trends of 2026, and now British lighting brand Glow Lighting is putting the ‘Neo Deco’ movement in the spotlight.
A 21st century take on the classic Art Deco movement, Neo Deco welcomes a new era of interior design where bold, glamourous pieces are used to create luxurious, yet liveable, homes.
Emily Butterill, Founder and Creative Director of Glow Lighting, said: “Neo Deco takes the classic styling of the Art Deco movement and reinterprets it for contemporary homes.
“It allows homeowners to showcase hero elements, with lighting often acting as both a functional feature and a decorative statement.”
As with the traditional Art Deco movement, bold geometrics are a signature of the Neo Deco trend, and lighting provides an easy way to introduce this important element.
Glow Lighting’s Humphrey is a perfect example, with its timeless silhouette and striking ribbed detailing. It works beautifully as either a pendant, wall light or table lamp and can be hung individually or grouped in a row across a kitchen island or dining room table.
For a softer interpretation, Florrie offers gentle curves and elegant detailing, ideal for introducing Neo Deco style in living rooms or bedrooms. With its subtle scalloped detailing, it pays homage to the arcs of the Art Deco movement.
Wanda, which is available in a myriad of bold colours, brings a more playful edge, combining a strong shape with characterful design that suits feature lighting.
Emily added: “Neo Deco lighting should feel special. Whether it’s a statement pendant or a pair of wall lights, the goal is to accentuate every space.”

Material choice is also important. Glass and metal finishes add depth and richness, and at Glow Lighting, all pieces are made in the UK from handspun metal and handblown glass.
Emily said: “There’s a real appreciation for craftsmanship within Neo Deco. People want pieces that feel considered and long-lasting, not disposable. Well-made lighting brings that sense of permanence and quality into a space.”

Decorating for wellness is set to be a major trend in 2026. The heart of French Bedroom’s approach to bedroom design has always been to create bedrooms that nurture both body and mind, with carefully curated natural materials, calming colours, and tactile textures layered together to foster tranquillity.
The Heart of Your Sanctuary: The Perfect Bed
The foundation of a wellness-focused bedroom begins with the bed itself, and French Bedroom’s Love Story collection is crafted with the restorative power of natural materials at its core. Organic textures and breathable fibres, often celebrated for their high vibrational qualities, are believed to interact positively with the body’s energy,
promoting a calmer, more grounded environment. These qualities lie at the heart of a truly rejuvenating space.
The Love Story Naturelle Bed, with its solid oak frame and natural linen upholstery, creates a serene and stabilising presence in the room. Oak brings a sense of durability and connection to nature, while linen, renowned not only for its temperatureregulating and hypoallergenic properties but also for its uplifting vibrational energy which supports deeper, more comfortable rest.
The Love Story Sérénité Rattan Bed embodies this connection to the natural world. Its handwoven rattan and satin-varnished oak frame evoke artisanal warmth and countryside tranquillity, introducing organic texture that softens the space and subtly lowers sensory stress.

For those who prefer a cocoon-like retreat, the Love Story Cocoon Bed, with its gently curved, tactilely inviting upholstered headboard, wraps the sleeper in softness.
These beds demonstrate how natural materials are not just aesthetic but essential elements in creating a bedroom that nurtures wellbeing at every level, from physical comfort to subtle energetic alignment.
Layering Textures and Accents for Calm Layering thoughtfully selected bedding and accessories on these natural foundations completes the sanctuary. The Wildflower Quilted Bedspread brings gentle, tactile warmth, while the Tumbling Roses Bed Linen introduces delicate, meadowinspired prints that echo the tranquillity of woodland calm.
Cushions crafted from linen and textured fabrics invite the body to slow down and connect through touch. Underfoot, natural-fibre rugs offer grounding warmth and a reminder of organic simplicity.
Lighting plays a vital role in nurturing a restorative atmosphere. Gentle, diffused light from rattan wall lights creates a soft, dappled glow reminiscent of sunlight filtered through leaves, extending the biophilic narrative into the evening hours.
With each element, colour, texture, light and natural material, working in harmony, the room becomes a sanctuary where the senses are soothed, the mind feels anchored, and the body can fully unwind.

The studio’s approach is grounded and practical, seeking luxurious and stylish outcomes. It begins before design is ever discussed. Meetings are unhurried, and conversation drifts easily through the weather, a meal, or the rhythm of a client’s day until the project naturally finds its focus. Listening is vital to the process. By the time plans are mentioned, there is already a sense of how the space needs to work, not just how it should look.
This way of working comes from an early understanding of how interiors shape daily life. It starts with ‘who’. Who is the person, how they move through a space, and what they value. Function leads, but aesthetics follow with equal force, integral to the design outcome. Growing up in environments where exterior and interior spaces were disconnected and frequently chaotic, Karen recognized early on that architecture is never neutral. When poorly conceived or badly executed, it unsettles the mind and diminishes the human experience. The built environment has a psychological weight; it can either elevate or erode wellbeing.
Rooted in her heritage and shaped by extensive travel, she witnessed the transformative power

of design done well. These are places where proportion, materiality, and context exist in quiet harmony that lasts for generations. In these spaces, one feels grounded, uplifted, and understood. This realization became a guiding principle: design is not aesthetic indulgence, but responsibility.
Every brief is stripped back to its core. Context is the integrator that brings together place, origin, and surroundings into the design, alongside layers of local craft and culture. Interior and exterior are conceived as one continuous narrative. A city home demands a different response to one in the countryside because the pace of life, environment, and climate shape the outcome.
Karen’s understanding of craftsmanship stems from time spent in her mother’s workroom,

surrounded by fabric and the steady rhythm of sewing machines. She watched how the patient, skillful manipulation of materials turns into drapery which, when hung voluminously, changes the energy in a room. She saw precision, mindfulness, and graceful execution. These values are fundamental to her and manifested in her early work. The project that holds a special place in Karen’s heart is Magna Hill, a tropical villa nested in a serene city village. Designed intuitively, it was a rewarding journey of creative output followed by the pleasure of seeing the vision materialize into an elegant residence harmonious to its surroundings. This experience could only be improved by working on a globally significant project.
Seeking to create from a design capital, she relocated to London for a masters degree at Chelsea College of Art and Design and took a position in the infamous David Collins Studio. Her sense of interiors was put to the test under rigorous critique from David himself when her first assignment was to design the presidential suite for the ultra-luxury Mandarin Oriental in Doha in his signature style. She immersed herself in a studio of boundary-pushing designers, working long hours refining and perfecting their craft. What she saw connected with memories of her mother’s workroom and solidified her understanding of the chemistry behind luxurious interior design.
In 2023, after working with several renowned global and London-based studios, Karen founded KISoriano Interior Design. Creating high-end residential interiors in London and the Middle East, the studio focuses on the continuation of her core principles. This is luxury shaped by people, places, and time, both personal and enduring.

Authenticity takes the lead as The Baked Tile Company launches new Zellige and Terracotta tile collections

British tile specialist The Baked Tile Company is putting authenticity in the spotlight as it launches two new tile collections.
Introducing Baked Real Terracotta Parquet and Baked Real Zellige White.
Embracing variation, texture and subtle irregularity, Baked Real Terracotta Parquet and Baked Real Zellige White weave imperfect magic into walls and floors.
Baked Real Terracotta Parquet tiles are bursting with warmth and character, with tonal shifts and

surface variations that bring depth and softness to floors.
Meanwhile, Baked Real Zellige White channels centuries-old Moroccan craftsmanship, with gently uneven edges and a glaze that dances between matt and glossy to create movement across walls.
Lesley Taylor, Founder of The Baked Tile Company, said: “These tiles are all about authenticity and variation is part of their charm. The subtle differences in tone, texture and finish are what gives them life and ensures every installation feels unique.”
With both new collections, layout plays a huge role in the finished look. The elongated Terracotta Parquet tile works beautifully when laid in a herringbone style, adding rhythm and warmth to kitchens, hallways and living spaces.
The smaller, square Zellige tiles are striking when installed with no spacers, which allows the tile’s natural, uneven edges to create the classic undulating surface Zellige is known for.
Lesley said: “When you’re working with tiles like these, simplicity is often best. Let the material do the talking and avoid overcomplicating the design with too many competing elements.”
Lesley added: “These tiles suit a relaxed mindset. If you embrace the imperfections rather than fight them, the end result feels timeless, tactile and full of character.”

When it comes to updating a kitchen, we know that the splashback is one of the most hardworking design features in the room. Protecting walls from splashes, steam and everyday cooking mishaps, our kitchen tiles also offer a powerful opportunity to add colour, texture and personality to the heart of the home. From classic metro tiles to statement patterns and sleek modern finishes, the right splashback can instantly elevate a kitchen scheme.
Leading tile, wall panel and flooring specialist Hyperion Tiles is encouraging homeowners to rethink this key area, choosing splashback tiles that balance style with long-term practicality. Our director Richard Skeoch explains: “A kitchen splashback should work just as hard as it looks good. Tiles are heat-resistant, wipe-clean and incredibly durable, making them ideal behind hobs and sinks. Whether you opt for timeless ceramics or robust porcelain in a bold, patterned or subtle plain design, a well-chosen tiled splashback can completely transform a kitchen while withstanding daily life.”

“A kitchen splashback should work just as hard as it looks good”

Follow our top tips on choosing kitchen tile splashbacks:
• Balance style with practicality: Ceramic and porcelain tiles are ideal for busy kitchens thanks to their durability, low water absorption and easyclean finishes.
• Decide on a focal point: Use patterned or colourful tiles to create impact behind the hob, or keep things calm with block-colour or neutral tiles that complement cabinetry and worktops.
• Think about light and space: Gloss finishes and lighter shades help bounce light around smaller or darker kitchens, while matt tiles offer a softer, contemporary feel.
• Don’t overlook grout: Mid-tone grout shades are practical in family kitchens, disguising everyday splashes while still looking polished.
• Choose with longevity in mind: Classic tile shapes paired with contemporary colours tend to age more gracefully than overly trend-led designs.
With more than 15,000 tile and wall panel options available, Hyperion Tiles caters for every project and personal taste, with choices in colours, finishes, textures, patterns, shapes and sizes. Beyond tiles, the collection includes designer paint, luxury wall panels, distinctive bathroom accessories (from mirrors to storage), plus flooring solutions from real wood to LVT. hyperiontiles.co.uk

Today’s bathrooms blend style with comfort and your choice of radiator or heated towel rail is key to creating the perfect space. Nick Duggan, MD at The Radiator Centre, reveals everything you need to consider when choosing the right heating solution.
Towel rails are a perfect blend of practicality and style, keeping towels warm and within easy reach. They come in a huge variety of finishes and designs have come a long way since the standard ladder models, providing an opportunity to add a stylish, decorative touch to your bathroom. The main advantage is their dual functionality, as they heat both your room and your towels. However, it’s worth bearing in mind they typically provide less overall warmth than a standard radiator, so they’re best suited to smaller bathrooms or used in combination with another heating solution. Nick Duggan, MD at The Radiator Centre adds, “When selecting a heated towel rail, finishes and design can make a real difference. Coloured or matt options are more efficient than chrome, which can emit up to 20% less heat, while larger bars and designs that separate the towel section from the radiator, will warm the room more effectively. For ultimate convenience, dual fuel models with an optional electric element are ideal, ensuring your towels stay warm and dry even when the central heating is off during the summer months.”

If your bathroom already has plumbing, standard radiators offer consistent, reliable warmth for a bathroom. Providing a higher heat output than heated towel rails, they’re excellent for heating larger spaces and some designs come with a choice of complimentary hooks and bars for your towels too.
Electric radiators and panels provide flexibility and convenience, ideal for bathrooms where plumbing is limited. As Nick explains, “These slim, contemporary designs fit almost anywhere and their programmable settings allow for precise control. Their main limitations are running costs, which can be higher than water-based systems, and in very large bathrooms they may not deliver as consistent warmth as a full central-heating radiator.”
Combining different heating solutions is a great way to get the best of both comfort and style. As Nick explains, “In larger bathrooms a standard radiator paired with a sleek towel rail, creates a warm, beautifully styled space where your towels are always perfectly dry. The only thing to keep in mind is making sure the controls and designs work together so the space feels cohesive.”

Style and finish are where a towel rail or bathroom radiator can truly elevate your whole bathroom. Many modern designs are statement pieces in their own right, combining striking shapes with elegant finishes to complement your décor. Nick comments, “Bathroom heating is no longer just about function and the latest designs play with shape, texture and colours to really mix things up. There’s more choice than ever before for the bathroom, so whether you’re someone who prefers your radiator or towel rail to blend in or stand out, there are some great solutions to explore.”

To work out what you need for your bathroom, use a simple heat calculator which will take into account the size of your bathroom, ceiling height and even the number of windows. This will then give you a clear guide on the ideal output in watts, which will influence the size of towel rail or radiator needed. It’s a small step that saves guesswork and ensures your heating is perfectly matched to your space.
Placement is a key consideration as Nick advises, “Ideally, position your heated towel rail somewhere easily accessible from the shower or bath, without crowding the room or blocking other fixtures. Wall space near the bath or beside the shower often works best. While traditional, vertical towel rails are still a popular choice, there are a lot of other stylish options now available so take some time to consider what works for your space. Long, low designs are a great solution for anyone with a smaller bathroom as they can fit in areas which would otherwise be dead space, such as above the bath.”
When it comes to bathroom heating, your choices can make a big difference to energy use. Nick advises, “With electric towel rails, look for systems with thermostatic controls or programmable timers so your bathroom is only heated when you need it, rather than running all day. Choosing the right size radiator or towel rail for your room is

also key, as over or under estimating sizing can mean wasted energy or an under-heated space.”
He continues, “You may also want to consider energy-efficient designs that use lower volumes of water combined with a high internal surface area. Less water means less energy is needed to heat it, making the system more efficient overall. For example, aluminium radiators typically contain less water and heat up faster than steel equivalents, so they reach the desired temperature more quickly while using less energy, perfect for anyone looking to combine comfort with smarter, more sustainable heating.”
Nick adds, “If your home uses a heat pump, it’s important to choose bathroom heating that works efficiently at lower water temperatures. While standard heated towel rails may struggle to warm the room sufficiently on their own, you could consider pairing them with a low-temperature or larger panel radiator, providing plenty of heat and giving you the best of both worlds. Alternatively, models like the Rosy Pro, shown below, are designed specifically to work with heat pumps and come with integrated rails for towels.” theradiatorcentre.com

Smart bathrooms aren’t just about voice-activated mirrors or mood lighting, heating has gone smart too. App-controlled towel rails and radiators let you pre-warm your bathroom, dry towels efficiently and even monitor energy use remotely. Nick comments, “What we’re seeing now is a shift from novelty to necessity. With energy costs high and homeowners looking for more responsive, efficient systems, smart heating is becoming the sensible choice. A Wi-Fi enabled towel rail that only runs when you need it isn’t just luxurious, it’s practical. In our view, smart heating will soon be the norm in modern bathrooms. The real innovation lies in how these products integrate, linking with sensors, smart thermostats and even humidity detection to keep the space comfortable and efficient without constant user input.”

Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2026 is set to make a quiet but powerful impact in the home, and according to the experts at independent tile specialists Porcelain Superstore, nowhere will the calming influence of Cloud Dancer be felt more than in the bathroom.
As homeowners increasingly look to create spa-like spaces that support rest and wellbeing, this soft, airy off-white offers the perfect foundation.
Unlike stark whites or cold greys, Cloud Dancer sits in a warmer, gentler place.
It reflects light beautifully while still feeling cocooning, making it particularly well suited to bathrooms, where calmness and serenity are key.
Abbas Youssefi, Managing Director, Porcelain Superstore, said: “Bathrooms are no longer just functional spaces, they’ve become places to switch off and Cloud Dancer speaks directly into that mindset.
“It is soft, reassuring and timeless, which makes it ideal for bathrooms where you want to create a sense of calm without the space feeling bland or clinical.”
For those homeowners embarking on a bathroom renovation this new year, Abbas feels Cloud Dancer is a great inspiration when it comes

to tile selection.
Not only will its creamy off-white hues help smaller bathrooms feel more open, but in larger spaces tiles in Cloud Dancer-esque shades will provide a serene backdrop that lets textures and finishes shine.
Abbas added: “Cloud Dancer is incredibly versatile. It works just as well with natural materials like wood and stone as it does with more contemporary finishes such as brushed brass or matt black brassware.
“It also complements a wealth of colours, from pastel shades through to bolder hues, for those homeowners who want to add contrast and interest through accessories.”
For those keen to embrace the trend fully, Abbas recommends layering similar tones rather than matching everything exactly. Soft beige or offwhite wall tiles, lightly veined floor tiles and tonal grout can all help create a seamless, relaxing feel.
Porcelain Superstore offers a wide range of tiles in creamy off-white shades, including Heath White and Nomad Chalk.
