COVER STORY

THE BELLINI ASTOR 58: REDEFINING SPACE AND LUXURY ON THE WATER Sebino Yachts brings the latest innovation from Bellini Yacht to UK waters

T

he prestigious Cannes Yachting Festival 2025 played host to one of the season’s most anticipated launches: the Bellini ASTOR 58. Following the remarkable success of the ASTOR 36 in 2024, the Italian shipyard has demonstrated once again why it stands at the forefront of contemporary yacht design. Sebino Yachts is proud to represent Bellini Yacht as the exclusive UK dealer. The ASTOR 36’s launch marked a triumphant return for Bellini Yacht, capturing the imagination of yachting enthusiasts with its innovative walk-around design and exceptional use of space. The ASTOR 58 takes these founding principles and amplifies them to an entirely new level—a reimagining of what a 58-foot yacht can achieve.

Defying Convention: The Space of a 65-Footer The most striking aspect of the ASTOR 58 is how she challenges preconceptions about yacht proportions. Step aboard, and you’ll quickly realise this vessel offers the volume and accommodation typically associated with yachts measuring 65 feet or more. Large families, groups of friends, or guests who value their own space can coexist comfortably, with multiple distinct social areas ensuring everyone can find their perfect spot.

The Beach Club Revolution At the heart of the ASTOR 58’s appeal lies her extraordinary aft deck beach club. Bellini has equipped this model with sector-leading automatic folding balconies that, when deployed, extend the beam to

14 N OVEMBER 2025

an impressive eight metres. This transformation creates an intimate connection with the water and surrounding vistas that few yachts can match. Whether launching water toys, taking a morning swim, or enjoying sundowners, this beach club provides a unique platform for experiencing the maritime lifestyle at its finest.

Al Fresco Living Perfected The main cockpit reveals the ASTOR 58’s commitment to social spaces. The outdoor dining area comfortably accommodates up to twelve guests around a generous table, whilst the adjacent outdoor kitchen transforms meal preparation into a social event. This is where Mediterranean living truly comes alive—long lunches that stretch into afternoon, evening gatherings under the stars, and the effortless entertaining that defines the yachting lifestyle.

The Foredeck Sanctuary

The B Atelier Experience: Your Vision, Realised

For moments when privacy calls, the foredeck offers a secluded haven. The generous sunbathing area provides the perfect spot for morning meditation or an afternoon with a good book, whilst the U-shaped seating becomes an intimate venue for sunset gatherings. Remarkably, this space feels proportionate to a 70-foot yacht, a testament to Bellini’s design prowess, enhanced by wide side access decks that make movement around the vessel safe and elegant.

Understanding that true luxury lies in personalisation, Bellini Yacht offers the B Atelier programme—a bespoke service that allows clients to create a yacht as unique as they are. The hull can be specified in a range of standard colours or matched to any colour through a paint-to-sample service. Below deck, customisation possibilities continue: fabrics can be selected to reflect your aesthetic, joinery finishes range from light Scandinavian-inspired timbers to rich traditional woods, and hardware and fixtures can all be tailored to suit your taste. This level of personalisation transforms the acquisition from a simple purchase into a creative collaboration, resulting in a yacht that is truly possessed—an extension of your personal style and values.

Intelligent Design Below Deck Below deck, high ceilings immediately convey a sense of spaciousness that belies the yacht’s length. The intelligent layout maximises every centimetre without feeling contrived. A particular highlight is the inclusion of a day head—a feature often absent on yachts of this size, significantly enhancing practicality for day guests and making her an excellent candidate for charter operations.

Beauty Meets Performance The ASTOR 58 is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful yachts on the market today. Her clean lines encase a restrained muscular form that speaks to both elegance and sporting capability. This is a yacht that turns heads in every marina, yet never resorts to ostentation. The design language is one of refinement—every curve and surface carefully considered to create a harmonious whole that is both timeless and distinctly contemporary. Her purposeful, dynamic profile unmistakably signals performance, yet this athleticism is tempered by elegant restraint.

The Bellini Promise The ASTOR 58 embodies Bellini Yacht’s philosophy of creating vessels that prioritise liveable space, intuitive design, and genuine connection with the marine environment. Following the successful rebirth with the ASTOR 36, this new flagship demonstrates that Bellini’s resurgence is built on solid foundations of innovation and quality. For discerning buyers in the UK market, Sebino Yachts offers expert guidance through every stage of the acquisition process. The ASTOR 58 is available now for those who refuse to compromise on space, style, or the pure joy of life on the water. children grow with both depth and delight. • STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics): Children design, build, and test ideas using blocks, clay, circuits, and coding toys. Curiosity is the fuel: “What if…?” becomes a daily habit. • Critical Thinking & Problem-Solving: We do not hand children answers; we help them ask better questions. Through puzzles, group challenges, and role-play, they learn resilience, reasoning, and collaboration. • Language, Story & Voice: From their first babble to their first story, we place language at the centre. Children express themselves — through words, song, movement, or art. • Creative Arts & Expression: Music, drama, and visual arts are essentials. Every child paints, performs, and participates — because creativity is not a gift for some, but a right for all. • Nature & Environment: Outdoor exploration is part of every day. From planting seeds to observing insects, children develop care for the natural world. • Wellbeing & Belonging: Yoga, mindfulness, and circle times help children find calm and confidence. Respect, kindness, and friendship are taught not as rules but as ways of living. “ Learning meets life” - “ Leaders plan a board and enriching curriculum that helps children understand and make connections to real life and the local community” Ofsted

Our Rooms

A New Beginning for Childhood Childhood is not a rehearsal. It is not the waiting room for what comes next. It is the beginning for everything. At Nannie Annies, we see childhood as a whole — mind, body, heart, and spirit. Education here is not something added to children, but something drawn out of them. We honour their voices, their curiosity, their laughter, and their individuality. Children are not preparing for life. They are living it.

And every moment — painting a picture, asking a question, building a tower, listening to a story — is part of that life. “Every child is not one among many – they are the point of it all”

Our Philosophy

We do not separate learning from play, or care from education. We believe in the whole child: body, mind, heart, and spirit. From storytelling and song to nature and science, from building friendships to finding their own voice – every child is encouraged to wonder, to try, to stumble, to rise again.

Our Learning Culture

Our curriculum is a living, breathing invitation to explore. It blends tradition and innovation, ensuring

Our rooms are meticulously designed to cater to the distinctive needs of children based on their age and developmental stage. We firmly believe that providing the best environments enables our children to flourish. Our classes, organised into four levels, align with different stages of development. Children progress to the next level when we believe they are ready, ensuring a tailored and supportive learning journey. • Willow – Gentle beginnings for our youngest, filled with warmth, sensory play, and security. • Tiny Chestnuts – A place of early independence, where toddlers find their words, explore textures, and test new skills. • Great Oak– Full of movement and curiosity: children collaborate, imagine, and ask their boldest questions.

• Mighty Acorn – The stepping stone to school, where confidence meets readiness, and children see themselves as learners and leaders.

Our People

Our staff are not only educators but companions on the journey. They bring professional expertise and deep care, but also playfulness, creativity, and patience. They are trained in child development, safeguarding, and wellbeing, but their true gift is seeing each child for who they are. We invest in continuous training and development, ensuring our practice evolves with the best of research while keeping love and humanity at its core. “wonder, words, and readiness” - “children equipped with useful skills and excellent vocabularies; prepared for next educational stages” Ofsted

Our Culture of Belonging

To be part of Nannie Annies is to belong to a family. We believe education happens not in isolation, but in relationship — with peers, teachers, parents, and community • Parents are welcomed as partners: workshops, open studios, and daily updates make them part of the story. • Festivals, exhibitions, and performances celebrate the richness of cultures, languages, and traditions. • Every child sees themselves reflected in the life of the nursery — valued, visible, and loved.

What Our Parents Say About Us

CK “Our son attended Nannie Annies for over three years, starting at just 7 months old, and I cannot speak highly enough about the care, dedication and professionalism of the entire team. From the moment we enrolled, it was clear that this is a truly nurturing and supportive environment where children are genuinely cared for and encouraged to thrive. The staff consistently went above and beyond to ensure that my son felt safe, happy and engaged every day. What really stood out for us was the genuine connection the staff made for not only our son, but also our family. They were approachable, communicative and consistently supportive, making the transition through different stages seamless and stress-free. We are incredibly grateful for the foundation

Nannie Annies has provided our son, and we will always look back on his time there with the utmost appreciation. For any parents considering Nannie Annies, I can confidently say it is a truly exemplary nursery that will provide your child with the best possible start”. PW The quality of care and education at Nannie Annies is outstanding. Children are engaged with a very wide variety of learning and STEAM activities, as well as educational trips outside, which stimulate their natural curiosity and help to prepare them for the transition to school. The nursery provides excellent feedback and planning every week which helps parents understand what is happening. It is a loving, caring environment for children and we cannot praise the staff and management highly enough CL “The service received from the practitioners is outstanding. There is no other childcare setting around that compares. Nannie Annies provide a wonderful, safe and caring environment for the children to learn and grow. My daughter absolutely loves going there and is always so happy when we pick her up.” HM “My daughter thoroughly enjoys her days there and is clearly thriving in such a fun and happy environment at the nursery. The staff are all so friendly and clearly passionate about their jobs. They go out of their way to provide a variety of engaging

and educational activities. I also cannot fault their communication with parents — they are always updating us on progress and daily routines.” OG “Our daughter has been at Nannie Annies since she was 18 months old and we have always felt incredibly confident in the care she receives. Nannie Annies had such innovative practices that at their heart celebrated play and kept her excited about returning each day. By showing patience and taking the time to get to know her as an individual, they have made her feel secure and valued, and she has continued to blossom.” CA “From the very beginning we have found Nannie Annies to be incredibly professional, caring, understanding and have our child’s best interests at heart. The staff are highly skilled and always go above and beyond to create a nurturing environment. We are regularly updated through their app with pictures, live videos and notes about meals, drinks, sleep and even nappy changes! This level of communication has given us peace of mind and confidence as parents.”

Our Promise

We are more than a nursery. We are a place where children learn not only to count and to read, but to wonder, to care, and to believe in themselves. This is where questions are celebrated, mistakes are honoured, and imagination is set free.

Tucking into a very tasty bacon and scallop roll, we sat back and enjoyed the hustle and bustle of this buzzing little eatery. Enough to cater for 50 guests under cover, with the addition of a sun terrace with further seating we could understand why this has become such a popular hidden gem. With a cafe next door serving chips and soft drinks and a pub serving alcohol, looking out across an incredible view it seems they have all aspects covered. We spoke to several members of this very friendly team who introduced us to Steve Cook, a local restauranteur who runs the Oyster Shack. He explained how things have developed from the

start, with daily early morning trips to Billingsgate Fish Market. “My day starts at 4am with a drive to the market and load up with a nice selection of the freshest fish and seafood we could find. It’s always exciting up there, and great for a chef to have such an array of produce to chose from. Our aim was always to keep things as local as possible, but as fresh as could be. If the seafood and fish is of quality, that’s most of our work done.” After a year or two of early starts and long days he was lucky enough to meet Maurice. “I text him every night now with my order, and he delivers the following morning. He has become my eyes and nose for the market. Working at the very centre of the market himself for years, he knows exactly what’s coming in from the boats and what’s available. He’s invaluable to us and instrumental in our quality. Thank you Mo!” Steve added “it’s great to have such direct contact and feedback from our guests. Some of our clients have become real friends, and I’m very lucky to have acquired such a dedicated great team of professionals working with me. It’s really satisfying and has been great fun” If seafood and oysters are your thing, then this little secret shack should surely be on your radar if you haven’t already joined the weekend queues. The Oyster Shack & Seafood Bar (postcode IG10 4AE) is open from 11am till 6.30pm Monday to Sunday in the summer and 11am till 5pm Monday to Sunday in the dark days of winter.

BENTLEY MOTORS AND STEINWAY & SONS A SYMPHONY OF CRAFTSMANSHIP

B

entley Motors and Steinway & Sons have announced a unique collaboration that brings together motoring and music in a celebration of craftsmanship, design, and innovation at the very highest level. Revealed at an exclusive event in Hamburg, a special Bentley Flying Spur Speed and a striking new limited-edition line of Steinway grand pianos, are the culmination of a partnership between these two world-famous brands. Uniting two leading names in the world of luxury, Bentley partners with pioneering piano manufacturer Steinway & Sons to showcase a long and shared tradition of excellence in craftsmanship, precision, individuality, and timeless design. Bentley’s Flying Spur Speed sedan – powered by its Ultra Performance Hybrid V8 - is finished in Arctic White with a Piano Black veneer interior, a lyrical design pairing that mirrors Steinway’s striking new Ultra Black and Ultra White limited edition grand pianos. The collaboration is a celebration of monochrome – a palette favoured by customers of both brands – and a reminder that in the world of luxury, less is more.

As contemporary interpretations of Steinway’s legendary grand pianos, each limited-edition series consists of just 18 Model B Concert Grands and 8 Model D Concert Grands. Produced entirely in Hamburg, these rare editions embody Steinway’s dedication to precision, innovation, and design with a contemporary edge, appealing to both musicians and collectors who value exceptional artistry. The collaboration between Bentley and Steinway extends beyond design, with both brands sharing expertise in woodworking and veneering, following recent visits to one another’s factories. This exchange of knowledge highlights how each applies technology and craftsmanship to create pieces designed to last for generations – whether in the concert hall or on the open road. Following the reveal, the black and white trio – the Bentley Flying Spur Speed and two Ultra Black and Ultra White Steinway grand pianos - will tour Europe for a series of concerts for the brand’s shared customers. bentleymotors.com/uk steinway.co.uk

Step inside and you will find Spanish mahogany cabinets, acquired from the Great Exhibition of 1851, still lining the walls. At the centre, an antique perfume counter displays our full fragrance collection, crafted with care, and worn by icons through the ages: Ian Fleming favoured No. 89; Marilyn Monroe ordered Rose Geranium; Florence Nightingale found comfort in White Rose. Beyond the boutique floor, our public archive reveals a treasure trove of royal warrants, vintage bottles, handwritten letters, and family history. JOE HOLSGROVE: Contemporary Bespoke Tailoring Grounded in Historic Craft

W

hatever the occasion, nothing compares to a truly bespoke garment. In an age of mass-production, there are few opportunities to own a piece of historic craft. Joe Holsgrove is an independent Bespoke Tailor with over 15 years’ experience working at the very highest level in tailoring. It’s almost certain that you will have already seen his work; he regularly dresses familiar faces from around the world, including royalty. At the heart of every garment that Joe makes lies the belief that clothing is an extension of one’s character. Each one is meticulously hand crafted, starting with a private consultation to understand the client’s lifestyle, personality and preferences. Only then will Joe take a comprehensive set of measurements and determine their posture as well as nuances from one side of the body to another. “Genuine bespoke tailoring 76 N OVEMBER 2025

transcends the way a garment fits the body,” Joe explains. “It must present the individual in their best light whilst being impossibly comfortable and made to last. With good care, my clothes will last for generations.” The journey of craft starts with a single pencil line on a piece of paper. Closely adhering to time-honoured methods, each customer will have their own pattern cut for them using a combination of ‘drafting’ techniques that translate their body measures into a twodimensional pattern - a garment jigsaw, as it were. It is from this that the fabric will be hand cut, before up to 100 hours of hand work can begin. Committed to using only the finest fabrics available, Joe sources the very best from the world’s most esteemed woollen merchants. “I think its vitally important to support the British woollen industry” he says. “Many of the mills are still family-owned businesses, who have been producing the

very best for centuries”. Joe’s workshop is like stepping back in time, with irons and sewing machines handed down from master to apprentice albeit with some asbestos removal along the way! “Some of my shears date from as far back as the 18th century. I see myself very much as a custodian of my craft; so it’s important to keep as much of it alive where possible. I always enjoy making contemporary clothes using just my hands and the most antiquated of tools. I think its such an interesting juxtaposition.” Every detail is considered. The garments evolve over a series of fittings (usually between two and three), where Joe refines the fit and feel of the clothes whilst welcoming reflections from the client. This collaboration is essential, and ensures maximum satisfaction with the final results. It’s so much more than just a jazzy lining and how many pockets you’re having; every proportion is noted and contemplated to ensure enduring elegance. Beyond the garments themselves, Joe is working closely with The King’s Foundation, where he is dedicated to passing on his knowledge to the next generation of master craftspeople. “It is a

huge honour to be invited to be the first to teach bespoke tailoring with The Foundation” he says. “Just as those before me learned and taught their craft, I hope to continue a tradition of excellence”. You can visit Joe’s London Studio by appointment. He will also be showcasing his craft in the South-West in January. To book an appointment, buy a gift voucher, or receive more information about his visit, please email bespoke@joeholsgrove.co.uk or call/text +44 7564 302 914. IMAGES: JEANIE JEAN

or many families, the festive season wouldn’t be complete without a jigsaw puzzle spread out across the table. Piecing together a puzzle becomes more than a lighthearted tradition; it’s a cherished Christmas ritual. Parents, grandparents, and children gather to share laughter, stories, and the quiet joy of fitting each piece into place. Puzzles are more than a pastime; they offer a chance to step away from screens and practice mindfulness. In an age of digital dominance, puzzling reminds us of the enduring pleasure found in slowing down and savouring the moment. In the 18th century, John Spilsbury crafted the first wooden puzzle, a dissected map designed to teach geography. Over time, wooden puzzles have evolved into a beloved form of leisure for adults. Wentworth Wooden Puzzles has been delighting puzzle enthusiasts around the world for over three decades. Founded in 1991, they are celebrated for their combination of British craftsmanship and excellence, creating exquisite wooden puzzles, each a timeless treasure, handcrafted with care and precision in Britain.

What sets Wentworth Puzzles apart is their signature “whimsy pieces”. These uniquely shaped, themed pieces are inspired by traditional Victorian wooden puzzles and included in the cut on a playful whim, giving birth to the eponymous “whimsy.” Each whimsy is a small surprise, adding charm, character, and challenge to every puzzle. Wentworth Puzzles are designed to delight and crafted to last. Each puzzle is made from sustainably sourced, thick 4mm wood and precision laser-cut using advanced technology, ensuring a perfect fit and a satisfying “click.” So, whether you keep your Wentworth Puzzle as a family heirloom or pass it to others to spread the joy, it represents the ultimate in sustainability. Sandringham Apple Juice

N

orfolk boasts a distinguished history of apple cultivation, with records of its earliest orchards dating back to the Castle Acre Priory foundation charter in 1089. The county, renowned for its rich agricultural legacy and fine chalky soils, consistently produces some of the United Kingdom’s most esteemed apples. In skilled hands, these apples are transformed into premium juices, recognised for their exceptional quality. With over thirty years of industry experience, Andrew Jarvis has refined the art of crafting superior apple juice on his 30-acre Sandringham property. His portfolio features eight single-variety apple juices, an award-winning apple and raspberry blend, as well as both still and sparkling ciders. These products have earned a strong reputation and are available online, featured in numerous Norfolk establishments, and stocked at several noted local farm shops. Their distribution extends beyond the region, reaching farm shops in Windsor and Spaghetti House Italian restaurants in London. Mr. Jarvis expresses pride in seeing his products enjoyed from Norfolk to London. Awarded a Royal Warrant in 2019, he is honoured to supply royal garden parties at Buckingham Palace, and his products were notably included in a hamper presented by the late Queen Elizabeth II to the Pope in Rome. Mr. Jarvis’s association with the Royal Fruit Farm on the Sandringham Estate began in 1990. Although he initially

90 NOVEMBER 2025

worked as a coalman, he later discovered a passion for apple juice production, which soon became his vocation. Having accrued twenty-two years of experience on the Sandringham Estate and a decade managing Sandringham Apple Juice, Mr. Jarvis now oversees operations with a small team of permanent part-time staff and seasonal workers, maintaining rigorous standards of quality and flavour. According to Mr. Jarvis, the nature of the work remains consistent each year, though schedules vary by season. Harvesting and pressing commence in mid-August with the Discovery variety and conclude in October, with pressing continuing through January. Post-Christmas activities focus on pruning, spraying, and orchard maintenance. Producing premium beverages is a multifaceted process requiring expertise and attention to detail. After pressing, the juice is allowed to rest overnight before bottling and pasteurisation, which preserves quality and prevents fermentation. Each of the eight cultivated varieties is harvested at peak ripeness, ensuring every bottle delivers maximum freshness and flavour. Sandringham Apple Juice products are suitable for enjoyment throughout the year, and Mr. Jarvis recommends serving them chilled to enhance taste. He highlights that there are many ways to appreciate his offerings, personally favouring a cold cider paired with a quality steak. sandringhamapplejuice.co.uk

“Every home has a story. Our role is to reveal it – one detail at a time.”

A

t Schneider Designers, we believe that true design is never about decoration alone – it’s about storytelling. Every home holds a narrative, and our role as architects and interior designers is to listen closely, uncover its character, and bring that story to life through thoughtful detail and timeless craft. As a boutique studio, we work intimately with each client, approaching every project as a bespoke journey. We don’t impose a signature style; instead, we shape a language that reflects the personality of the people who live there and the spirit of the building itself. From the proportion of an archway to the curve of a hand-turned banister, we see design as a dialogue between history, material, and imagination. British homes often carry a quiet poetry – layers of past lives revealed in their textures, patinas, and imperfections. Our task is to respect that heritage while introducing a contemporary sensibility: modern comfort balanced with authenticity. Whether restoring the elegance of a Georgian townhouse or transforming a mews house into a serene retreat, our focus remains constant – to craft spaces that feel as though they have always belonged. Detail is our language. It’s found in the joinery that fits seamlessly into the architecture, in the natural stone that grows warmer with

Our work is guided by patience, precision, and purpose – ensuring that every space we design feels deeply personal and effortlessly timeless. The Art of Natural Elegance

T

BY LYNDON

here is a quiet poetry to the way Lyndon approaches furniture. From their Cheltenham workshop, this artisan manufacturer – with over 40 years of British heritage – continues to shape the landscape of contemporary design. Lyndon’s philosophy is rooted in patience, precision and a profound respect for materials. Each piece emerges from a seamless dialogue between traditional craftsmanship and 21st-century technology, where the natural beauty of timber meets the sophistication of modern design. Nowhere is this harmony more beautifully realised than in Katō – a collection that encapsulates Lyndon’s commitment to form, function and feeling. Katō’s presence is understated yet powerful, evoking calm through its smooth, organic contours and tactile finishes. Every curve and joint has been carefully considered, every surface inviting to the touch. The undulating grain of the wood, meticulously shaped through a blend of joinery heritage and contemporary wood-forming techniques, gives Katō a living, sensory quality. Inspired by the purity of Scandinavian, Japanese and mid-century modern aesthetics, Katō bridges cultures and eras. It speaks of simplicity – not as

11 2 N O V E M B E R 2 0 2 5

reduction, but as refinement. The thoughtful upholstery, tailored with expert craftsmanship, enhances both comfort and visual lightness. The result is furniture that feels as natural as it looks – grounded, elegant and effortlessly at home in any interior. For Lyndon, design is not just about making objects; it’s about creating destination spaces – environments that invite people to pause, connect and experience. Katō exemplifies that mission. It is a celebration of Lyndon’s woodworking artistry, their sensitivity to material, and their ability to transform the ordinary into something quietly extraordinary. Crafted in Cheltenham, Katō stands as a testament to British design at its finest: responsible, refined and deeply human. In an age of the disposable, Lyndon continues to remind us that true luxury lies in authenticity – in furniture that endures, inspires, and enriches the spaces we inhabit. lyndon.co.uk

‘OUR STUDENTS ARE ACADEMICALLY CURIOUS, KIND AND EMPATHETIC YOUNG PEOPLE’ This month, we speak to Jade McLellan, Head of Senior School at the award-winning St Dunstan’s College in Catford, south-east London.

What excites you most about leading the Senior School at St Dunstan’s, and how do you see your role shaping its future? I am so proud to now be leading the Senior School at St Dunstan’s. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team for nearly a decade now, I have been fully invested in the College for many years and have enjoyed being part of its stratospheric academic rise. I would say that I am most excited by our students. They are academically curious, kind and empathetic young people who are always up for new challenges and who are ambitious for their futures. They are also all completely themselves, real individuals full of character which makes for such an inspiring school. Under my leadership, we 12 2 N OV E M B E R 2 0 2 5

are now turning our attention to deep scholarship, ensuring students go beyond the confines of the examined curriculum and become lifelong scholars who understand that learning has an intrinsic, not merely instrumental value. St Dunstan’s is known for balancing academic excellence with personal development. How does the Senior School ensure students thrive both academically and as individuals? We have always shown the students the value of holistic development, not merely competition for grades. This is shown through our four-part curriculum, which of course includes traditional subjects like history, geography and physics, but also includes timetabled curricular lessons on mental health, neurodiversity and AI, amongst

many other topics. Our innovative Forder co-curriculum, scheduled for the middle of the school day, offers around 200 clubs per week, from traditional orchestral and sports activities, to the more esoteric palaeontology and philosophy of Harry Potter clubs. In an ever-changing world, what do you believe are the most important qualities for young people to develop, and how does St Dunstan’s help them do that? We believe students need to be flexible and critical thinkers who have the adaptability and resilience to thrive and indeed lead in this uncertain future. We explicitly teach critical thinking and media literacy through our trailblazing Stuart curriculum which is timetabled for every child from Year 7-Year 13, outside of form time - in fact it even starts in our Junior School. Integrity is also a core value for our students, although it sometimes seems in short supply in the modern world. We recognise that our students have enormous privilege studying in a school like St Dunstan’s, with expert subject specialists in every subject and outstanding facilities. We therefore know how important it is to get them out into the community and encourage them to give back. They do an enormous amount of volunteering, from teaching younger children to read, to coding tuition and sorting donations at Lewisham Donation Hub.

in the state sector for about eight years before switching to the independent sector. What are you most excited about in the year ahead, either for the Senior School or personally as Head? We have an exceptional Year 13 cohort this year - hardworking, down to earth and caring so I am particularly excited to see their years of hard work come to fruition. We have also launched our first ever student-produced, research-led academic journal, with the first edition due to go to print in the new year. On a personal level, I am completing the first part of training to become a qualified coach, as we work to embed a coaching culture amongst students, parents and staff in our school. This is definitely a new challenge for a Head as it requires stepping back from directing and leading, into a more reflective space. Learn more about St Dunstan’s College Senior School at one of their upcoming open events. Scholarships available for those joining at 11+, 13+ and 16+. Visit stdunstans.org.uk

What first drew you to teaching, and what moments in your career have most shaped the leader you are today? I didn’t think at all about teaching as a career possibility, even though I ran the community outreach tutoring programme for my College at Oxford and enjoyed the tutoring I personally did as part of that programme. I initially went into Public Relations for an agency working on the London Challenge with the Department for Education. This inspired me to retrain as a teacher, initially working N OV E M B E R 2 0 2 5 12 3

INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS:

W

Unlocking Student Potential

ith options ranging from boarding schools to modern alternative curricula, there is almost certainly a school to suit each and every child. Here are some of the reasons why parents are choosing to give their children the unique experience of private school and why it’s worth the financial investment.

Enriched academic opportunities

One of the accepted benefits of private schools is that they provide exceptional and challenging educational experiences through extracurricular activities, Advanced Placement courses, and the International Baccalaureate programme, just to name a few. The IB programme focuses on school work and on developing you as a whole person. Private school students constantly score top marks on standardized tests and college entrance exams, and many schools have a 100 per cent rate of students attending their university of choice.

Controlled class sizes

A comprehensive study on class size made by educational researchers Bruce Biddler and David Berliner in 2002 showed that the smaller the class size, the better the average 12 4 N OV E M B E R 2 0 2 5

student performs on academic achievement tests. The gains from smaller class sizes are stronger the longer a child is exposed to them. Private schools vary greatly in size, but depending on their teaching style, almost all focus on the importance of small class sizes to individually help students’ weak areas and advance their strengths.

Dedicated teachers

In a study completed by the Fraser Institute in 2007, 91 per cent of parents surveyed said the dedication of the teachers was their main reason for choosing private school. Instructors are both qualified and passionate about their subjects, often holding advanced degrees in their field. Within the tight-knit school community, students have close relationships with their teachers who commonly act as role models. In addition, small class sizes make staff members more readily available for extra help or to further challenge individual students.

Parental involvement

Private schools are built around open communication between parents and administration, and they make it a priority to involve parents in the community. From frequent parent-

post-secondary education when they are in control of their class attendance and achievement.

Ample resources

At private schools, you’ll find incredible resources to support student learning in the classroom, sports field, art studio, and beyond. Quality resources provide students with the opportunity to fully explore their interests and talents.

Extracurricular activities

teacher meetings, social events such as parent breakfasts and family camping weekends, and the participation of parent committees in fundraising initiatives, families become an integral part of the child’s education. This common ground also helps strengthen parentchild relationships.

A safe environment

“At private schools, you’ll find incredible resources to support student learning in the classroom, sports field, art studio, and beyond”

Private schools have reputations for maintaining high standards for discipline and respect. Lower staff-to-student ratios allow for more effective observation and control of school grounds. The strong sense of community found in private schools also discourages dangerous behaviour. In the Fraser Institute study, around 72 per cent of parents surveyed with children in the private school system strongly agreed that their school was safe, which greatly improves the quality of the child’s educational experience and achievement. The discipline they learn also improves their rates for success in

12 6 N OV E M B E R 2 0 2 5

While academics remain the priority for most private schools, many also place a strong focus on a well-rounded education and encourage participation in extracurricular activities such as sports, music, arts or clubs. This involvement helps stimulate students in their studies, as noted in a study at Stanford University that found that students involved in the arts are more motivated to learn and are three times more likely to win a school attendance award. Extracurricular activities can provide a much-needed break from the stresses of academics while developing skills and engaging in valuable social situations.

Development for today’s and tomorrow’s world

Private schools go beyond offering the mandatory subjects required by provincial curriculum; they can offer students a wide range of specializations including arts programs, athletics, maths and science. Private schools are responsible for producing many leaders in politics, business and society, with a history of adapting quickly to changes in technology and culture. And today, they are also sought by parents of children with special needs such as behaviour problems or learning disabilities.

WHERE THE MAGIC BEGINS - AND BELIEVING TURNS TO BECOMING

very child dreams of a place like Hogwarts - and Clayesmore comes close. Not just for its turreted buildings, beautiful Dorset campus, and exceptional food, but because it offers something even more powerful than magic: a place where every child can discover their strengths and who they are meant to become – curious and creative, bold and adventurous, thoughtful and kind, or driven and determined. Tucked away in the rolling Dorset countryside, Clayesmore has spent over 130 years weaving this quiet kind of magic – the kind that doesn’t rely on spells, but on connection, care, and curiosity. Success here isn’t defined by a single path; it’s a journey that unfolds uniquely for each individual. Clayesmore is a school where every child is known - not just by name, but by nature. Teachers recognise each child’s spark, strengths, and story, and in that recognition, children experience something transformative: belonging. When a young person feels seen, understood, and valued, something extraordinary happens – they begin to believe, and from that belief comes possibility. The journey begins in the Prep

School, where specialist teaching in art, design, music, languages, and sport helps children explore their gifts and build a foundation not just for learning, but for life. As students move into the Senior School, the world opens wider. The curriculum challenges and inspires, encouraging each child to shine – whether through science or sculpture, coding or climbing, drama or debate – while building resilience, leadership, and independence. By Sixth Form, students stand tall in their own stories. Small class sizes, expert guidance, and a wide choice of A Levels and BTECs give each individual the freedom and support to carve their own path. As one grandparent reflected: “Clayesmore has given our grandchildren an exceptional education, strong values, and the confidence to take on the next stage of their lives.” When children belong, they believe; and when they believe, they become – scholars, artists, leaders, dreamers – whatever their story is meant to be. BUILDING CONFIDENCE THROUGH FUN AND FOCUSED LEARNING:

YELLOWBIRD EDUCATION’S HOLIDAY WORKSHOPS

A

“Yellowbird Education’s workshops are designed around growth mindset and confidence building”

t London House Magazine, we celebrate organisations that make learning an inspiring experience – and Yellowbird Education does exactly that. Their popular holiday workshops for children aged between 6 to 11 have become a highlight of the school break, offering an engaging and effective approach to learning that blends fun, focus, and friendship. Yellowbird Education’s workshops are designed around growth mindset and confidence building. Children learn best when they’re enjoying themselves. Each Creative Writing session is lively, interactive, and filled with creative activities that capture young imaginations. When children are having fun, they naturally become curious, motivated, and more open to new ideas – the perfect 13 0 N OV E M B E R 2 0 2 5

foundation for building knowledge and confidence. Small group sizes are another key to Yellowbird’s success. With fewer children in each session, teachers can give every learner the individual attention they need. This supportive environment encourages participation, helps children find their voice, and allows teachers to adapt lessons to each child’s pace and personality. The result is a sense of belonging and accomplishment that boosts selfesteem and nurtures a love of learning. Just as important is the structure of the workshops – held over consecutive days during the school holidays. This format allows skills to develop progressively and knowledge to be reinforced each day. Without long gaps between sessions, children maintain focus and momentum, which leads to deeper understanding and lasting confidence. By the end of the week, many children feel proud of how far they’ve come – not just in academic skills, but in their ability to collaborate, concentrate, and express themselves. Yellowbird Education’s holiday workshops prove that learning doesn’t have to stop when school does. Through fun-filled, smallgroup sessions held over consecutive days, children discover that education can be exciting, empowering, and joyful. It’s a wonderful reminder that the best learning happens when confidence grows – and confidence grows when learning feels like fun. yellowbirdeducation.com

DEVELOPING THE INDIVIDUAL ST DUNSTAN’S COLLEGE’S JUNIOR SCHOOL DEPUTY HEAD, ALEX MURPHY, DISCUSSES HOW THE AWARD-WINNING PREP SCHOOL PREPARES YOUNG PEOPLE FOR THE WORLD OF TOMORROW

I

n independent education, parents understandably want to see value for money. With rising fees driven by VAT changes and a cost of living higher than many have ever known, the return on investment in private schooling is under greater scrutiny than ever. Schools often point to league tables, exam results, and university destinations to highlight their success—but do these metrics tell the full story? And are they overshadowing something just as important: the development of the individual? Academic achievement matters. It equips children with the knowledge and skills to access broader opportunities beyond school. Yet on its own, it is not enough. Without the ability to think critically, collaborate, and self-reflect, academic results risk becoming hollow credentials. Today’s employers are less interested in specific exam grades and more focused on whether young people can learn independently, adapt to change, and lead with confidence and integrity. Given the unpredictability of the future job market and the rapid pace of change, two skills stand out in particular: critical thinking and problem solving.

13 2 N OV E M B E R 2 0 2 5

These human and cognitive skills aren’t easily measured. They don’t fit neatly into a spreadsheet or performance report. Instead, they are embedded in classroom interactions, pastoral care, and the broader educational ethos—from the earliest years onward. Schools that embed this philosophy early on, rather than waiting until secondary education, are becoming increasingly attractive to families. More parents are choosing schools not just for their rankings, but because the school’s values resonate with their own. Junior school pupils are at a formative stage. Every interaction— whether it’s navigating a playground disagreement or reflecting on a mistake—shapes their character. These early years are when empathy, resilience, and integrity take root. If schools focus solely on academic

benchmarks, they risk producing highachieving children unprepared for life’s complexities. However, schools that recognise this need and adapt their curriculum to include life and metacognitive skills give children the space to forge their own path. They help them find their voice, understand who they are, and build the character needed to make a meaningful impact beyond education. A rich character education nurtures emotional intelligence, moral awareness, and a sense of purpose; qualities that matter just as much as grammar or times tables. These qualities must not be treated as tokenistic extras. When integrated meaningfully into a child’s learning journey, they help children discover who they are, what they value, and how they can contribute to the world. That is the true value of education and honestly, the greatest return on investment. heir grip on power is most noticeable in the judiciary, where 74 per cent of leading judges (those in the High Court or Court of Appeal) were privately educated. Figures in the report also show that one in three MPs (32 per cent) was privately educated – as were half the members of the Conservative Cabinet. Even in Jeremy Corbyn’s Shadow Cabinet, 13 per cent of members went to private school. Nationally, the figure is just 7 per cent. The report, carried out by Dr Philip Kirby, goes on to show that 71 per cent of senior Army officers – two-star generals and above – went to private schools. Only 12 per cent attended comprehensives.

In medicine, 61 per cent of doctors were privately educated while 22 per cent went to selective state grammar schools and just 16 per cent to comprehensives. The list goes on – 48 per cent of civil servants were educated privately, 29 per cent went to selective grammar schools and 23 per cent to comprehensives. The higher echelons of journalism are also dominated by the private sector, with 51 per cent educated in independent schools. And of those chief executives of FTSE 100 companies who were educated in the UK, 34 per cent were privately educated. Nearly half the top actors – 42 per cent of Bafta Award winners – went to private schools, fuelling criticism that the profession is becoming more elitist. “Our research shows that your chances of reaching the top in so many areas of British life are so much better if you went to an independent school,” said Sir Peter Lampl, the chairman of the Sutton Trust. “As well as academic achievement, an independent education tends to develop the essential skills such as confidence, articulacy and teamwork, which are vital to career success.

A NEW CHAPTER IN TIMELESS CRAFTSMANSHIP: Franses Jewellers Unveils Expanded Boutique and Showroom

T

his September marked an exciting new chapter for Franses Jewellers, as the doors opened to a newly appointed boutique and a brand-new, dedicated Patek Philippe showroom in the heart of Bournemouth. As a fourth-generation family jeweller, Franses has long been established on Westover Road, recognised for craftsmanship, tradition, and a commitment to exceptional service. The unveiling of this enhanced boutique represents a reflection of heritage and an expression of the values that have guided the business throughout its journey.

Honouring the Past, Embracing the Future

What once started as a fascination and keen eye for antique jewellery, is now rooted in the tradition of Franses which has been handed down through generations. Throughout the years, this legacy has been carefully handed down – evolving naturally with time, while remaining true to the principles that define the Franses name: a family jeweller with a rich 148 N OVEMBER 2025

heritage in crafting fine diamond jewellery. The newly expanded boutique and Patek Philippe showroom embodies that same balance of tradition and progress. Every detail of the design has been considered to create an atmosphere that feels elegant yet inviting. The result: a calm and welcoming space where each piece can be appreciated as it deserves.

A Home for Patek Philippe

At the heart of the new boutique lies a dedicated showroom for Patek Philippe, one of the world’s most prestigious watchmakers. Franses is proud of being a Patek Philippe authorised retailer, a distinction that reflects a shared dedication to excellence and artistry. Patek Philippe has long represented the pinnacle of Swiss watchmaking – a name synonymous with precision and understated luxury. Franses feel privileged to hold the responsibility of sharing such unique timepieces within a luxurious yet welcoming environment, reflecting the same

qualities in their ethos as businesses. The new space offers clients an opportunity to explore the world of Patek Philippe in an intimate and thoughtfully curated environment – one where time itself seems to move a little slower, and where appreciation replaces haste.

Contemporary Design with a Family Touch

While Franses’ heritage is deeply rooted in tradition, it continues to evolve through the creative vision of James Franses. His jewellery collections reflect a modern approach to design, informed by a respect for classical craftsmanship. His work builds upon the foundation laid by those before him – timeless yet fresh. Within the new boutique, a curated display of James’s latest designs sits alongside Franses’s classic collections, offering clients a glimpse into the ongoing evolution of the brand. The team is excited to welcome both returning clientele and new customers into the new space that speaks for itself when creating a warm atmosphere to immerse yourself in.

A Commitment to Bournemouth

Franses takes great pride in its place on Westover Road, a location that has long been at the heart of Bournemouth’s vibrant town centre. Franses has grown and changed with the town itself, and this new chapter represents a continued investment in the community that has supported it for generations. Bournemouth holds a special place in the company’s story – a place where family tradition, creativity, and personal service have flourished. The new boutique reaffirms the brand’s dedication not only to its clients but also to the vitality of the town centre. The design of the space reflects somewhere clients can feel at ease – whether visiting to celebrate a milestone, choose a timepiece, or simply browse and learn. Every conversation is approached with attentiveness and respect. Attentive and friendly staff will greet you as you walk through the doors portraying a high-quality service that fellow retailers along Westover Road have always shown us.

Craftsmanship, Continuity, and Care

For Franses, jewellery and watches have never been just about aesthetics, but about the stories that pieces carry through generations. Each jewel and timepiece represent countless hours of skill and dedication. This approach, passed down through the family, relevant within Patek Philippe as well, continues to define the business today. The team at Franses looks forward to welcoming both familiar faces and new visitors to experience this new space – one that honours the past while embracing the future. franses.co.uk N OVEMBER 2025 149

THE ART OF THE INVITATION

HOW TO THROW THE PERFECT FESTIVE FÊTE,ACCORDING TO CONVIÉ

1. Get dressed for the occasion No matter the dress code, a festive fête is always an excuse to get dolled up. You can never go wrong with an LBD made seasonally apropos with the right pairing of sparkling jewellery and accessories. And don’t forget the finishing touches—a pop of colour on the lips and a hint of shimmer on the décolletage. I always opt for The Velvet Gloss in shade “Deep Cherry” when I’m going out, and The Glow Drops in shade “Sun-Kissed” lightly dusted along the collarbone and high points of the cheeks. 2. Your venue sets the vibe There’s no shortage of vibey venues in London, which can be especially useful for those of us who have neither the space nor energy to host a large number of people in their own homes. We love to gather in cozy, intimate spaces with plush furnishings and rich textures and décor, like Upstairs at Langan’s Brasserie, where we held our first ever brand party, or Belvedere which is tucked away quietly in the throes of Holland Park. 15 0 N OV E M B E R 2 0 2 5

here’s something magical about Christmastime in London, not least because of the endless opportunities to imbibe and indulge. But not all parties are created equal, and often the weeks leading up to Christmas and the New Year are stacked to the brim with celebrations across the city. When your friends are double—or even triple—booked, what can you do to make sure that your soirée makes the cut? When in doubt, turn to the experts to advise. We sat down with Convié co-founder Cristina Harrell to get the lowdown on the anatomy of a perfect party. A french word, “Convié” quite literally means “to be a guest” or “to be invited”—and the beauty brand has quickly become known for their supper clubs, cocktail parties and other engagements to bring their community together. Now, Cristina dishes out on what you need to be a winning host(ess) this festive season.

3. It’s all in the company My favourite part about hosting Convié events is bringing our community together over a shared love and passion for beauty. Often, we have a mix of guests who would have otherwise never met or been in the same room—and by the end of the evening they’ve become the best of friends. It’s so special to watch these moments unfold, and it’s a good reminder to mix and match your social circles when planning an event, as you never know what connections may be made. 4. Good food and fine wine For us, food isn’t simply sustenance; it’s a social ritual and an art form. We love to indulge in richly flavoured feasts from around the world, savouring every bite while sharing the experience with friends. No matter the time of year, the Convié community is always gathering and finding moments to celebrate. To follow along with our journey and join our next event, follow us on Instagram and TikTok at @we.are.convie or head to our website to become a member of our community: weareconvie.com/pages/meetthe-convie-community.

Consultant Plastic Surgeon

Professional | Approachable | Bespoke

Focus On: Paediatric Plastic Surgery Chris is an experienced cosmetic surgeon with a Paediatric fellowship from Great Ormond Street Hospital. He treats Paediatric patients from his clinics at 84 Harley Street and Wimbledon Parkside Hospital.

What is Paediatric plastic surgery?

The care of infants, children and young adults falls under the term paediatrics. Paediatric plastic surgery includes the management of congenital anomalies such as prominent ears and birth marks as well as repairing skin injuries, improving scars and removing lumps and bumps.

Is early intervention recommended?

Moles, lumps and bumps in children should be attended to when they cause either functional or cosmetic distress. The later on in childhood these are left the more likely a procedure can be done under local anaesthetic. Scar revision is most usually performed once a period of scar maturation and conservative management strategies have been fully employed. Most commonly this occurs during teenage years once scars become the focus of attention. For Pinnaplasty (prominent ear correction), surgery can sometimes be avoided through early intervention. For newborns, the protrusion of the ears can be improved with external moulding splints. If uncorrected, surgery above the age of six is recommended when the cartilage has become firm.

What anaesthesia is required?

Many procedures can be performed under local anaesthesia. Some interventions, if performed on a baby before four months of age, can use a ‘feed and wrap’ method, whereby an infant is given local anaesthetic and is then fed their milk to induce sleep, after which the surgery is performed. If general anaesthetic is necessary, it is generally best to wait until the child is over the age of three.

What sets Dr Helen Medical apart: • Weekend and extended weekday appointments: Open Monday to Sunday, offering flexibility for working professionals, parents and visitors to the area. • Rapid access to care: Same-day or next-day GP and specialist consultations for when health concerns can’t wait. • A compassionate, family-run practice: A warm and personal environment where patients are truly listened to - built by doctors who understand the pressures of family life. • Free, easy parking: Convenient on-site parking right outside the clinic ensures stress-free access for all visitors. 168 N OVEMBER 2025

The clinic offers a wide range of services including private GP appointments, paediatric care, women’s health (including menopause and weight management), lifestyle medicine, dermatology, ENT, allergy, health checks, blood tests and more. Patients can book directly without a referral and benefit from longer appointment times focused on personalised care rather than high patient turnover. “Opening in Ringwood allows us to support our local community in a way that truly fits their lives,” said Dr Helen. “We want patients to feel heard, cared for and confident they’ll be seen when they need us - without the long waits.” Dr Lexi added that; “With the “rapid rise” in weight loss treatments being offered online without a thorough medical consultation, they felt this was a vital service to develop. At Dr Helen Medical, those seeking help with weight loss can see our specialist lifestyle GP who can ensure a well rounded, holistic advice.” For more information or to book an appointment, visit drhelenmedical.co.uk or call 01202 022 956. The most memorable homes are never simply decorated; they are shaped with intent, considered in detail & curated to reflect the lives unfolding within them. This is the philosophy of Novaco Design, a creative studio renowned for crafting interiors as individual as the people who inhabit them. Every project begins with discovery, a conversation that reveals not only how clients wish to live, but who they are at their core. From these insights emerge spaces of quiet sophistication: a townhouse balancing heritage with modern living, a city apartment reimagined as a sanctuary, a country retreat reconnected with nature. The process is highly collaborative, guided with clarity & care from first sketch to final detail. The result is not simply a beautiful home, but a partnership towards spaces that are lasting in quality, deeply personal & rewarding to live in.

ntroducing the Introvert Chair, a new design collaboration between Moooi and artist Robbie Williams – global superstar, expressive artist and self-proclaimed master of mixed feelings. Inspired by Robbie’s own inner ups and downs, this chair is a soft place to land when the world gets a bit too... world-y. It’s cocooned, sculptural, womb-like (his words) and upholstered in a signature fabric that feels like kindness with texture. The result? A seat that’s both a design object and an emotional escape space. Comes with pillows. Doesn’t come with social expectations.

mood. One that values introspection, boundaries and emotional wellbeing. It invites you to take up space without performing. To turn inward. To be alone, but never lonely.

An embrace for the quiet ones

See it for yourself

The Introvert Chair is a sculptural sanctuary that’s curved to cocoon and padded to please. Designed by singer-songwriter and cultural icon Robbie Williams, the chair captures the feeling of slipping away into your own little world. Whether you’re reflecting, reading or people-watching without being watched, the Introvert Chair offers a comforting pause from the noise.

A new side to Robbie Williams

Known for his extroverted stage presence and legendary music career, Robbie Williams surprises the world with a piece that celebrates stillness and solitude. Created in close collaboration with Moooi, the chair is an authentic expression of his own inner world that’s designed not for the spotlight, but rather for stepping out of it.

Collaboration with Moooi

The collaboration between Moooi and Robbie Williams reflects a shared love for the unexpected. Born from an artistic partnership grounded in vulnerability, humour and design intuition, the Introvert Chair is an open-hearted invitation to slow down. The result? A chair that turns heads without requiring eye contact.

We’re proud to be one of a select few UK partners chosen to present The Introvert Chair by Robbie Williams – a bold Moooi collaboration that turns introspection into an art form. On display now at our Greater London showroom, the full set includes the chair, three Comfort Cushions and The Security Blanket featuring Robbie’s exclusive artwork. A tactile expression of comfort and creativity, it’s already sparking conversation across the design world. chaplins.co.uk

The chair’s softly sculpted form and generously padded frame feel like being wrapped in a hug. Its tactile, woolly signature fabric makes you feel warm and comfortable while the matching pillows invite you to adjust and nest in your own way. EDWARDIAN HOME RENOVATION & EXTENSION

T

By Footprint Architects

his sensitive renovation and extension of an Edwardian London home was defined by its historic character. Historic features were still on show, including original tiled entrance flooring and stained glass windows to the stairs. It was important to retain these features, whilst modernising the flow and use of the house. The house had already seen piecemeal alterations over the years. A conservatory-style rear projection had been replaced with a solid structure, the original porch restored, and a single-storey rear extension and loft conversion added. While these works brought incremental improvements, architectural work was required to address the deeper challenges of the house: a disjointed architectural language externally, broken circulation and limited light spill to rooms, hallways and a disconnection from the garden. Footprint Architects’ challenge was to break free from these constraints to fully unlock the home’s potential. The project increased daylighting, adding a spacious walk-in-wardrobe area and an accessible lift, and removed unnecessary partitions to transform the three-storey family dwelling into a bright, flowing home that supports modern family living – while

18 2 N OV E M B E R 2 0 2 5

remaining sensitive to the rhythm, privacy and heritage of its Richmond street. The design process began with a thorough analysis of the local architectural vernacular, exploring daylighting, simple circulation and investigating connections to the exterior space while preserving the historic influence.

“Aligning the living spaces along a singular axis created a natural pathway that gravitates toward the outdoor space”

the summer months. Material choices were equally deliberate. Zinc was selected for its durability, low maintenance and calm tonal quality, offering a contemporary counterpoint to the existing brickwork without mimicry. The humble palette ensures the extension sits quietly within the Edwardian character of the street. The result is a home that feels both practical and uplifting: brighter, better connected, and highly adaptable to family life. Footprint Architects have reimagined an Edwardian terrace for the long term, creating a contemporary extension rooted in its place and purpose.

The solution came in the form of a zinc-clad rear extension and re-organised ground floor that blurs the boundaries between internal and external, while carefully respecting neighbouring building lines. Aligning the living spaces along a singular axis created a natural pathway that gravitates toward the outdoor space. The reconfigurations made partitions redundant and reframed family life around the new sociable hub. Large glazing reinforces this connection to the outside by flooding the new space with daylighting, offering garden views with option to fully open up in

MOULD MATTERS, HERE’S WHY priority at a national level. Modern technology gives us the tools to deal with mould effectively. Air sampling and laboratory surface testing allow hidden problems to be identified quickly and accurately. Once confirmed, non-toxic remediation methods such as fogging can be used to cleanse the air throughout a property, making it healthier to breathe in just a matter of hours. These treatments are safe for children and pets, while still tough on contamination. At Mould Matters Ltd, we specialise exclusively in mould and damp. From laboratory testing and assessments to HVAC sanitisation, flood drying, and preventative coatings; our focus is on protecting both homes and the people who live in them. Our processes are stringent, our technicians fully qualified, and our aftercare designed to provide lasting peace of mind. mouldmatters.com

M

ould is not just an eyesore — it is officially recognised as a Category 1 Hazard, placing it in the same risk category as asbestos. This might surprise many homeowners, especially as mould often grows unseen. Spores can linger in the air long before patches appear on walls or ceilings, meaning families may be exposed without even realising it. The good news is that mould can be managed and prevented with the right approach. Understanding the problem is the first step. Mould develops where excess moisture and poor ventilation create the ideal environment for growth. Once established, it can release microscopic spores into the air, which may irritate the lungs, aggravate asthma, or trigger allergies. Recently awareness of the issue has increased with the introduction of Awaab’s Law, named after a young child whose death was linked to mould exposure. This law requires that reports of damp and mould are dealt with promptly in social housing, highlighting how the issue is being treated as a

A BRITISH ICON, RE-IMAGINED FOR TODAY’S FAMILY KITCHEN: Meet the new Classic & Classic Deluxe range cookers

R

angemaster, makers of the world’s first range cooker, has revealed upgraded Classic and Classic Deluxe models that bring together almost two centuries of British craftsmanship with the practicalities modern households demand. Manufactured at the company’s Royal Leamington Spa factory. From the outside, the design remains reassuringly familiar, yet every line feels crisper: squared-edge doors and slimmer bezels frame larger baker-style windows, while a new white LED display keeps timings clear to see at a glance. Inside, a generous 80 litre fan oven partners with either a tall fan oven (90 cm & 100 cm) or a second full-size cavity (110 cm) – ideal for Sunday roasts, batch baking or family pizza night. Classic Deluxe steps up with an eightfunction multifunction oven that includes Duo for crisp pastry bases and Delicate

heat for gentle custards; the 110 cm version is available in offset configuration with proving drawer in the bottom-right cavity or base configuration, which boasts a slow cook cavity above the right-hand oven. On the hob, choose between the familiar flame of gas burners with dual fuel or the instant, energy-efficient control of Rangemaster’s latest induction hob. A newly enlarged Flexi Grill slides out on telescopic runners, perfect for topped flatbreads or sizzling breakfast bacon, and touch-safe triple glazing keeps young hands protected. Colour remains at the heart of the family’s appeal. The Classic offers four timeless shades – Pale Cream, Gloss Black, Misty Blue and rich Bordeaux. Classic Deluxe widens the palette to eight, adding Charcoal Black, Slate, Mineral Green, Stone Blue and elegant Heather, each available with either Chrome or Antique Brass trim. rangemaster.co.uk
