TRUST ME – Where There’s a Will There’s a Way

When arranging a life assurance policy to protect your family, two fifths of people have never heard of writing their policy in Trust. However eight in ten have assets they want to pass on.

ccording to insurer Legal and General there is a significant lack of awareness surrounding the legal arrangement of writing a life insurance policy into a Trust, which allows a person to gift their policy to their beneficiaries when they die. 40% of those surveyed were unaware of the process, while 82% have policies they would like to pass on. 43% do not have a will in place. A Trust, which allows a policyholder to indicate to whom - and when - the proceeds of their life policy will be paid out, is a crucial way of protecting family members from the financial burden of Inheritance Tax (IHT) by helping to ensure this money is not included as part of the deceased’s estate. It is important when speaking to your financial adviser that you discuss the subject of Trusts and whether this added security is appropriate for you. Most insurers provide Trust forms free of charge on existing policies, and for new policies it is likely to incur minimal if any additional cost. For some individuals, estate planning can be complicated and will require the services of a solicitor. However, when looking at a simple life assurance arrangement, a good start is to write the policy in Trust from the outset regardless of your situation. e adviser arranging your life assurance should be able to help you with this.

Peace of mind Having an up-to-date will in place is a practical move. Even if you do not have a large estate with complicated financial arrangements (in which case it would be prudent to employ the services of a solicitor), it is possible to find a low cost alternative for simple wills, and even a free will for a small bequest to a charity. For example Age UK will be running a “Free Wills Month” in March which oﬀers simple wills to the over 55s by participating solicitors. Age UK hope that their supporters would kindly consider supporting Age UK with a gift in their will, although there is no obligation to do so. Ensuring you have suﬃcient life assurance to protect your family in event of your death is essential for most people. pring is drawing nearer, the days are getting longer and Epping Forest is preparing to burst back into colour following a seemingly very long and cold winter slumber. With the Easter bank holiday just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to get out and about and enjoy the fresh spring air and hopefully even warmer weather. ith independent school pupils three times more likely to achieve the top grades at A-level than state school pupils it’s not surprising that, despite the current economic climate, many families opt to send their children to a good independent school. It’s not purely for academic reasons that parents choose an alternative to the state sector. Other reasons include the better pupil to teacher ratios with smaller class sizes, the perception of improved standards of behaviour and potential future career prospects. Another factor for many parents is the range of extra-curricular clubs and activities that are the norm at most independent schools. With the variety of diﬀerent sports, such as fencing or cricket, regular musical performances and shows, house competitions and preparation for wider life through schemes such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award, there are many opportunities for children to immerse themselves into life at school. Other important criteria for parents when considering schools are the levels of direct contact with teachers and the

communication with home. Most independent schools should take pride in how they communicate with parents and the best will aim for daily contact, albeit when handing over or picking up, and for regular emails, texts, newsletters, Twitter feeds and accessibility through their websites or Apps. or many, receiving an inheritance can be life changing, potentially allowing the recipient to move house, repay their mortgage, privately educate their children, or simply enjoy the nicer things in life. Unfortunately, unless you take active steps to plan the transfer of your assets down through the generations, there are a number of events that could result in a significant amount of your wealth not passing to your family. Arpit Shah, a local Wealth Manager outlines some of those which his clients most frequently protect themselves against. • Inheritance Tax : Typically paid at 40% on the value of any assets which exceed your inheritance tax allowance, often referred to as the nil rate band. • Residential or nursing care: Should you require residential or nursing care, you will need to fund these costs yourself if you have assets over £23,2501 with residential care costing £31,2002 per annum on average, unless this can be funded from ongoing income, these fees can significantly reduce the value of your estate in a relatively short period of time. • Divorce: As one in three marriages in Britain sadly now end in divorce3 this a real issue experienced by many families. • Bankruptcy: Businesses can go bankrupt. A business run by one of your children that fails could lead to assets already gifted to them (or to which they will become entitled in the future) being used to pay their creditors. e good news is that, through careful planning often involving a carefully drafted Will, together with lifetime trusts, it is possible to reduce the threat posed by each of these events. Pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements can also help protect finances following divorce.

n the evening of Saturday, 24th February, the Duchess Suite at the Prince Regent was alive and bustling with parents and supporters of the Woodford RFC Under 14s. A glitzy, gala evening, promise of a great meal, prizes and inspirational words to support the team’s aspiration for a trip to Japan to attend World Cup Japan 2019. In their blood and in their hearts, the team play to win and dream of ultimate success and that perhaps just one of their players, will eventually play for the England team. In 2017 they formulated a plan… In agreement and in unison, they started the mammoth, fundraising programme with a range of creative ideas. Helping shoppers to pack at Tesco raised £500.00. Cake events, the gala evening and a comedy event in March. “We believe that if we are as committed to our dream as we are to our rugby, and conduct ourselves in a gentlemanly manner in all that we are asked to do, then we can make a wonderful reality!” Woodford RFC Under 14s Hoping for a once in a lifetime experience spurs them on; a sense of shared honour whilst

BOAT RACE Preview Saturday 24th March 2018

atched by thousands along the banks of the River Thames and by millions more on TV around the world, The Cancer Research UK Boat Race is the world’s most famous rowing race, and one of the biggest free sporting events in London. The annual contest between two rowing crews from Oxford and Cambridge universities, is now one of the oldest sporting rivalries, following a challenge between old school friends. The first ever race took place in 1829 in Henley on Thames and since the second race in 1836 the contest has taken place in London. April 2018 will see the running of the 164th Men’s Boat Race and 73rd Women’s Boat Race, both now taking place on the Championship Course.

Race course, known as the Championship Course is 4 miles, 374 yards or 6.8 Km long, stretching between Putney and Mortlake. The start of the race is marked by the University stone, a few hundred yards upstream from Putney Road Bridge and for the first quarter of a mile, as the crews pass the historic boathouses of Putney Embankment. The Finish Line is just a few yards downstream from Chiswick Road bridge and here the crowds on Race Day are as densely packed as those near the Start. What those crowds witness as the crews cross the Line is the ecstasy of the victors and the despair of the losing crew. On Race Day up to 250,000 spectators crowd the banks of the Thames to witness the action. Remember, all the riverside pubs will be heaving, with the crowds spilling out onto the towpaths. If you’re planning to watch from a pub, arrive early! There are large screens at Bishops Park, Fulham and Furnival Gardens, Hammersmith which mean you will be able to watch the whole Race before and after the crews have passed. The parks will also feature food outlets, beer stands and merchandising stalls.

Silent Pool Distillery to open new distillery extension

ith the drive to expand their presence both nationally and internationally, Silent Pool Distillers, producers of the multiaward winning Silent Pool Gin, are due to open their new distillery in April this year, just three years after they first started back in 2015. The new distillery extension will contain an 1800L, custom made copper still, 5 times the size of their original still Juliet, allowing the company to keep up with the current and increasing global demand. Unlike many other distilleries, Silent Pool Distillers proudly bottle their spirits onsite ensuring that each product is entirely crafted within the four walls of the distillery. It was of great importance to the company that even with increased production, their ethos of personally overseeing every stage of production remained. With the aid of an EU grant the distillery will also unveil a new bottling line built in Italy which will enable the company to hold true to overseeing each stage onsite but also to meet the

fast growing demand. The expansion has been driven in large part by exports, Silent Pool Gin is now available in over 24 countries including most of mainland Europe, Japan and America; this has resulted in more jobs for local people and local trades who supply the business. The efficiency of the larger still will allow the innovative distillers to dedicate more time to product development within gin but also whiskey and brandy. Part of what makes the distillation process so authentic is the method they use to power their hand made still. Similar to Juliet, the new still will be heated by steam from a reclaimed, vintage boiler that’s fired on local hardwood. Originally designed to power a steamboat in a 1980’s film, this classically British, McEwen boiler has been reformed and adopted by the distillers at Silent Pool and is now an essential part to the production of their handcrafted spirits. Becoming a ‘greener distillery’ was integral in the planning stages of the expansion and with over 40 solar panels covering every square inch of the new roof, the distillery extension will now generate enough electricity across the year to be completely carbon neutral, Silent Pool Gin really will be made by sunshine! Nestled on the banks of the spring-fed Silent Pool, deep within the rolling Surrey Hills, the distillery is open to visitors 7 days a week, MondaySaturday 9:30-17:00, Sundays & Bank holidays 10:00 – 15:00. HOLIDAY REQUEST WITH A TWIST at’s why an enquiry from a family looking for a summer holiday with a twist was a chance to showcase the benefits of booking with a specialist travel company like Holiday Designers. e challenge was to find a holiday for two adults and two sporty boys aged 9 & 6, with a sport related theme which would keep them fully occupied for a week in the summer. ey specified their maximum budget, wanted to fly from the Southwest and needed accommodation with two bedrooms. Many diﬀerent options were researched including multi activity Kayaking, Cycling & Rafting in Croatia; a Tennis Club in Cyprus or Greece, and Golf in Cyprus and Portugal. What really got the attention of these football crazy boys was a football camp in Sardinia being run by ex-Premier League players. Campioni Soccer Academy runs camps in Sardinia, Greece and Portugal throughout the summer, and with Andy Cole, ex England International striker, billed to run the camp

the week this family were planning to travel, they were keen to find out more. Holiday Designers found flights from Bristol and accommodation in two interconnecting cottages at the Chia Laguna Hotel in southern Sardinia, on half board. All within their budget and with one of their preferred suppliers. e boys were convinced as were Mum and Dad, so their ideal summer holiday was booked. All that was left for them to do was look forward to their break and do some shopping for new football kits and boots.

Keep your hair in shape "If you're feeling you're stuck in a rut and need to revitalise your look, invest in a good hair cut and, if necessary, a colour. Do your research first so you find a salon and hairdresser who'll be prepared to talk about what you want, what they think will suit you and what will work with your hair type."

Edit your wardrobe "Spring's a brilliant time to give your wardrobe an edit. Organise everything by putting it into compartments for work wear, casual wear and formal wear," he suggests, and remove anything you don't wear or doesn't fit. "When clothes don't fit they make you feel bad about yourself. e simple rule is, if you haven't worn something for three months, you should put it in a bag or store in another wardrobe. If you by the end of six months you still haven't used any of those pieces, donate them to charity."

"I see my role as saying, 'If you like it, wear it and enjoy your life, but I can advise on how to wear it and make it suit you'. At the end of the day, you should just be able to enjoy fashion and have fun with it. "Also, fashion and style have no relation to age, so if you're in your seventies and love Topshop, wear Topshop, frankly it's up to you. Equally, if you're in your twenties and want to wear full-on vintage, don't be afraid to."

"For another wardrobe lift, consider shaking up the colours you wear. Start introducing a diﬀerent colour slowly through accessories, as well as make-up. n the professional footballing world, most players are done before they reach their mid-30s. But not Jer main Defoe, 35, who was recalled to thee national squad last year. Not only that, but Defoe efoe even scored the first goal in his return to England gland football, 13 years after first joining the teaam. So, what’s his secret? Other than a superhuman ability to get the ball in the net, Defoe puts the longevitty of his career down to one thing: His recent addoption of a plantbased diet. Why he wanted to do it i Defoe is refreshingly honest onest about why he started exploring the options tions in his diet. “When you come into the later stages of your career, you always try to find an nything you can do to prolong it,” he explains, showing his steely dedication to football. It was documentaries like Netflix’ l s What The Health that convincced Defoe to cut meat out of his diet, showingg him the benefits and alternatives that were on alternati n offer. “II wanted to try something different to prolong p my career, and that’s how I was inspiredd,” he says. In his drive to continue u to play football at a top level, Defoe hass now cut meat out altogether, but he still eaats some fish. How he fo ound the transition nsition No matter how in vogue the vegan diet is, for most people, the transition is sttill a pretty tricky one. Even though Defoe hasn n’t gone fully vegan, cuttingg meat out of his diet d was still tough, g , because of the culture he grew up with. “At A first it wasn’t easy,” he admits. “It’s something completely different to what I’ve done before,

especially co oming from a West West Indian background.” bac ” Defoe is close to his familyy,, and sa says: “When I first starteed, it was difficult. I used to go to my mum’s on a Sunday and she’d make lamb, beeff,, all this kind off stufff..” Admitted dlyy,, Defoe has it easier than most peoplee. He works closely c with a nutritionist who helps shape his diiet to make sure it’s balanced. In fact, it doesn’t seem m like Defoe does that much cooking at all “II don all. don’tt mind cooking,” he says, sounding very uncon nvinceed. “My girlfriend does most of it, but I help her.” Now, w, De Defoe’ efoe’s diet has settled into a pretty consistent rhythm. r “I try to stick to vegan meals at home, but aafter training at the ground, I’ll have a bit of fish, like tuna or salmon, to get some energy back into m my system,” he says. And don n’t worry, y, because his mum m has also managed to o adapt - he was at her house the night before we sspoke, and she made him a lo ovely vegetable cuurry. y. How it chaanged his perffor ormance For Defoe, changing his diet so significantly has undoubtedlly been worth it. “It wasn’’t easyy,, but as I w was doing it, I noticed the difference,”” he says. “I didn’t get one muscle injury last season, and in your 30s, that’s quite unusual. “I thougght it must be down to my diet - cutting meat out an nd really understanding what I’m actually putting into o my bodyy..” His musccles aren’t the only thing that haave benefited frrom a meat-free lifestyle. “I’ve always had energy, y, but sometimes you y feel a little bit lethargic and bloated d,” he says. “Now I feel f like I’ve got more energy. y. I feel completely different - I’m able to train every day, y, I don’t get aany injuries, it’s helped with my game. That, for m me, is the most important thingg..” How his teeammates have responded Veganism issn’t exactly seen as a macho lifestyle Veg choice, which seems at odds with the lads-centric nature of fo ootball. Howeverr, Defoe says his teammates are really receptiivve to o his diet. “A “A lot of the younger players look at me and they they’re re like ‘W Wow, Wo w, how ho can he still be playing at a that sort of level at 35?’ I think they wanted to know k what the secret is,” Defoe says. The answer he alwa a ys giivves them? His diet. “I think they look at me and think they should try it themsselves - and they should, because the earlier you try t it, the better it will be,” Defoe says. With top p sportspeople like Serena Williams and Daavid vid Ha Hayee adopting veganism, plant-based diets are sheddin ng the image of being wishy-washy and unbalanced d. If a 23-times Grand Slam winner can succeed witthout getting her protein from meat, then there’s got g to t be something in that.

diet has been an eye-opening onee. “When I was younger, I didn’t understand much about food, I just ate what was in front of me,” he says in disbelieff.. “Ev “Even at the training ground I just ate like everyone else.” It was education that showed Defoe that there are so many alternatives to meat. That’s why he did a film with Quorn and Ben Fogle about how reducing your meat intake can be so much healthier and better for the environment. “It encourages kids to understand what they’re putting in their bodies,” Defoe says. “It shows you can be healthy and fit without eating meat.” For now, w, you y won’t see Defoee reaching for grilled chicken breast to get his #gains. s a Celebrity MasterChef winner and mum, actress Lisa Faulkner is mo ore aware than most of how importaant healthy food is for children. And healthy food doesn’t just mean eatingg well at mealtimes, it means eating healthy snacks too o. Lisa, 45, whose daughter Billie is 11, says: “I know how easy it can be to give your children n snacks based on convenience, but many of th hem may be packed full of sugar.” She’s highlighting a serious issue. At the moment, m around half of children’s sugar intake - aboutt seven sugar cubes a day - comes from unhealthy snacks and sugary drinks, and on average, a children are consuming three or four unhealthy snacks and sugary drinks a day. y. This means they’re haaving ving m much more sugar than the recommended daily maximum of five cubes for four to six year olds and six cubes for seven to 10 year olds - fuelling obesity and dental decay. y. At 31, Joe Wiccks has achieved a feat most aspiring influence l ers could only dream of: turning his virtuous lifestyle into a multi-million-pound empire. In the space of three years, there have been five workout andd recipe p books, a Channel 4 show, DVDs, countlesss tours across the globe and over 8,000 Instagram posts under his nom de plume, The Body Coach, h racking up two million followers and counting. From the outsside, the man seriously doesn’t seem to stop - a quick scroll through his Instagram feed before we meet rev r eals Wicks has already shared photos of his breeakfast and new book, The FatLoss Plan, and hee has a full day of media inter views ahead. Of course, he’’s also managed to tick off a gr uelling morning HIIT class - yet not one strand of his cher ub-esqque hair is out of place, and that megawatt smile is in full force, despite the fact he appears to also be fighting off a nasty cold. So what does he h make of all his success? “It’s mad isn’t it, really? It’s such a short amount of time,” says Wicks, refle l cting on his growing repertoire of recipe books, based on h his cult Lean In 15 method. “I’ve got an eight-bookk deal with a publisher so they’re just really keen to keep pushing them out, so obviously it’s going to get more m challenging to come up with something new,,” he adds. To date, he’s sold more than a million copies of Lean In 15 an nd managed to hold a steadfast place in the uppeer regions of the book charts since December 2015. He puts its popularity down to our modern, time-po oor lifestyles. “People just wanted that ease and accessibility of quick basic stuff that they could throw in the pan, make a couple of batches, and stick it in the oven or the fridge for the next day,” he sayss. Wicks has also o just launched a new 18-part audio series for Audiblee with Sir Mo Farah called Mo-Joe, in which the duo will coach TV presenter George Lamb to r un thiss year’s Virgin Money London Marathon. Wicks ran it hiimself back in 2015, but confesses it wasn’t his finesst moment. “I had a bad experience because I didn’t ttake it seriously. I thought that 4 8 MARCH 2018

While Wicks is reluctant to give anything away about his relationship, he says trying to keep the balance is important to him, and being “over” hanggovers appears to be key for the savvy v entrepreneuur. “My ideal night is like a nice meal and d the cinema,,” he reveals. “I’m not really into raving v and clubbin ng any more. Almost overnight, I just losst interest in itt, you know? It’s weird, I used to always be the last one o out - now I’m happy to go home at midnight.” Between the books and his social-media presence, he’s aware that his time is, increasingly p g y, in demand. “I plan my breaks around my year but I’ll have to blocck a week out in advance, because if I don’t, everyone will just stick stuff in my diary,” he says. “I’ve got a good balance, it might look like I’m m 24/7 all yeaar round but I do have a week off here and there. I re-energise, refocus, and then I can go again.” Outside of his growing media empire, young people are a particular passion for Wicks. He says he h was “alwayss a sporty kid” and originally aspired to be a PE teaacher; he also recently launched a Schoolls Fitness Wee eek, where he streamed workouts on his channel thaat could be followed along by schools. After thee eighth book is wrapped up, he’d like to focusingg on helping combat childhood obesity, and bringin ng more education about fitness and nutrition to o the curriculum. “I really want to be drivving the schools campaign that I’ve been doing online and hopefully h amplifying it, maybe with a TV V show show where I can creates actual change within n schools - likke Jamie Oliver did with school dinners,” he says. “My end d goal is, I really want to be remembered for more th han someone who sold a few books and had an onlin ne business.” I ask if his h stratospheric success is partly down to t luck, and hee’s humble enough to agree - while also acknowledgging all the hard graft he’s put in. “Yes e, I think so... ollywood rom-coms tell us that falling pregnant generally brings happy tears, excitement, and a feel-good ‘glow’ that radiates from within. It’s no wonder then, that feeling vulnerable, anxious or overwhelmed during pregnancy can catch many women off guard at a point that is supposed to be the happiest time of their lives. While much has been written about postnatal depression, a new study has revealed that pregnancy can be just as challenging a time for many women. It found that one in four suffer from a mental health issue during pregnancy - before the baby has even been born. Researchers at King’s College London found that

when interviewed, a quarter of pregnant women had a mental illness ranging from depression (11%) and anxiety (15%) to eating disorders (2%) and obsessive-compulsive disorder (2%). You can help to boost your serotonin levels by making sure you’re getting between 8 and 10 hours of sleep each night during pregnancy.

It’s true what they say - fresh air is good for you. Studies have found that spending just 15 minutes a day in nature can boost focus, ease anxiety and increase levels of the feel-good hormone dopamine. More importantly, getting your fix of all-important vitamin D from natural sunlight can help you to sleep better at night. And the better you sleep, the better you’ll feel during the day.

Practise pregnancy yoga Getting into a downward dog pose is probably the last thing you want to do when you’re six months pregnant, but according to the Mayo Clinic, practising prenatal yoga can improve sleep and reduce stress. As well as gentle stretching to relax and strengthen, a pregnancy yoga class will usually include guided meditation and breathing exercises to help calm anxious thoughts. ost parents know that feeding children a good, balanced diet is vital for their health and development. But what’s less well-known is that a key reason for ensuring good nutrition early in life is to nurture children’s microbiome - the trillions of bacteria that live on and in us, but mainly in the gastrointestinal tract. The microbiome helps control the immune system, and thus how well children fight off infections and whether they develop allergies, as well

as regulating the metabolism and even influencing mood. It also plays a huge role in a healthy digestive system, which helps control weight, sleep and much more. Largely a product of lifestyle and the environment, the microbiome changes throughout life and is most malleable during early childhood. Dr Rachael Buck, lead research scientist and gut health expert at healthcare company Abbott, shares three ways to promote a healthy microbiome in both pregnant women and children, giving them a

recommended for as long as possible during infancy, as it provides many benefits to both mother and baby. It’s difficult to reverse the decision not to breastfeed.” Speak to a health visitor, midwife or doctor for advice on how to feed your baby.

1. DURING PREGNANCY Emerging research shows a mother’s gut bacteria undergo natural changes as pregnancy progresses. These changes in the microbiome promote energy storage in fat tissue and help support the growth of the foetus. A healthy diet isn’t only good for mum and her microbiome, it’s good for her growing baby too. So, if pregnancy cravings have you reaching for sweets or the biscuit tin, opt for something healthier instead. Try to stick to a varied diet with plenty of fibre-packed foods such as fruit, vegetables, whole grains and legumes, and probiotic-rich foods like yoghurt and sauerkraut. If you’re feeling more adventurous, kefir (a fermented milk drink) and kimchi (salted and fermented vegetables) are also good choices and are now widely available in supermarkets.

2. BABY’S FIRST 24 HOURS How and where a baby’s born, as well as every surface touched in the first 24 hours of life, affects baby’s microbiome, and these early experiences can impact its health well into the future. From the moment it’s born, a baby’s body is colonised by trillions of microbes given to it by its mother during birth, from her gut and skin and via what baby eats, whether that’s breast milk, formula or both. Skin-to-skin contact soon after birth promotes nursing and helps establish milk supply, and breast milk itself helps to build a healthy gut too. Components such as human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs), a special type of prebiotic and the most abundant ingredient in breast milk after fat and carbohydrate (lactose), help to feed and multiply healthy gut bacteria and work to support a baby’s developing immune system. Buck says: “Breastfeeding is best for babies and is

Newborns and young infants start with a limited number of microbes. However, as babies come into contact with more people and new environments, they acquire additional types, and the composition of their microbiome begins to change and become more distinct. The types of solid food children are introduced to can also play a big part in the make-up of their microbiome. Buck says the toddler years are an ideal time to optimise a child’s gut health through diet because then the microbiome stays fairly similar throughout his or her lifetime. After introducing solid foods - one at a time - to a toddler, offer a variety of nutritious foods including eggs, legumes like lentils, beans, and peas, vegetables and fruit. Starchy vegetables like sweet potatoes, parsnips, squash and yucca, whole grains like oats, rice, barley and quinoa, and probiotic-rich gut foods like yoghurt and kefir are also good choices to boost their gut health.

fter a long day, you should be able to retreat to a place of tranquillity and calm in order to relax and catch up on some precious sleep. Design and decor can play a huge role in making sure your bedroom is the oasis it should be. There’s a lot of talk about getting the ‘wow’ factor for rooms, but in bedrooms you’re really seeking the ‘aaah’ factor’. You should immediately feel your shoulders drop as you shed tension and realise that this is where you can truly be yourself and unwind. When decorating your bedroom, simplicity is the key to serenity. So no matter what your particular style is, all you need to do to create a sumptuous oasis is heed a few basic but important design ideas. If you’re having trouble sleeping, it might be because of the paint colour in your room. Colours that are too bright or bold can actually keep you awake. Light colours are great for making a room feel larger, but a darker hue envelops the bedroom, creating the perfect space to relax and slumber. If you need to have something bold, painting a feature wall behind your head may give you the punch you’re looking for without interrupting your sleep. The bed is obviously the focal point, but at the end of the day, it’s the finishing touches that will turn a bedroom into the ultimate personal comfort zone. Whether your bedroom is covered in carpet or hardwood, rugs are a great way to add colour, texture and of course, warmth underfoot. Try layering rugs in different shapes and patterns for an extra-comfy look.

You need to clear any clutter, allow space for you to breathe! The only items that should be in your bedroom are the items you love and care to look at every morning and evening, like family photographs. If you are trying to make your bedroom as cosy as possible, bright overhead lighting will not help. Instead, opt for sleek bedside lighting whether that be a wall mounted sconce or a simple lamp. It has to be bright enough to allow for reading in bed, but not overwhelming or (gasp!) fluorescent. Anything with a dimmer is ideal. Scent your room with essential oils. In aromatherapy, a number of scents are recognised for reducing stress. Relaxing scents include bergamot, chamomile, lavender, lemon, marjoram, neroli, orange, sandalwood, valerian and ylang-ylang. Your bedroom should be a place of rest and relaxation. You should look forward to retreating there at the end of the day. Making some simple decor changes can help transform this important space into the peaceful sanctuary you deserve!
