SHOULD YOU SAY ‘I DO’ TO MARQUEE INSURANCE?
N
atasha Sadler, Private Client Insurance Executive at Scrutton Bland looks at the insurance considerations around summer events in your garden. You could hardly have missed the recent media coverage of Pippa Middleton’s wedding. Pageboys in silk breeches, a dress rumoured to have cost £40,000, and an enormous £100,000 glass marquee for guests to relax in and dance the night away. Not many of us will be hiring a marquee of quite that size for our garden party or wedding, but if you are having an outdoor event at your property this summer then it’s certainly worth looking at your existing home insurance policy. Many standard policies do not cover specialist equipment such as music systems, cooking apparatus, or the marquee you have hired. If you suffer loss or damage to the marquee or any other temporary equipment that has been brought in for the big day, you may be legally responsible for some scarily large sums, so it makes sense to plan ahead with the help of an expert. An insurance broker such as Scrutton Bland will help you to understand if your existing home insurance policy covers risks such as • temporarily opening up your home or garden to the public (public liability event insurance) • domestic employee liability cover (for example cleaners, nannies, gardeners, waiters and waitresses) • damage to hire equipment such as lighting or music systems
8
JUNE 2017
• catering insurance • event cancellation insurance In some cases your existing policy can be extended, however our private client insurance policies will in many cases automatically include high-level coverage. For our private clients this could mean that top-of-the-range marquee hire is covered to the value of £100,000, and if for example you open your house and garden for an ‘open garden’ day for charity, your house and garden liability can be covered up to £10 million. Our private clients also benefit from the joined up service that we offer, bringing together the expertise of our insurance, tax and independent financial planning teams. By holding joint meetings with our in-house team of advisers, we are able to ensure that our clients benefit from the right mix of professional advice to help you maximise your financial assets whilst at the same time minimising your tax liabilities, without the need for lots of time-consuming meetings. n

EPPING FOREST I
t’s that time, once again, to make the most of the warmer weather and lighter evenings and enjoy the Epping Forest Open Air eatre season this summer. In addition to the ever-popular performances by the nationally renowned theatre company, Illyria, this year the City of London Corporation is presenting a brand new and innovative promenade production taking place in the Barn Hoppitt area of Chingford. Barn Hoppitt is the area of woodland including Warren Pond, located opposite e View and Queen Elizabeth’s Hunting Lodge. On Sunday 9 July there will be two delightful performances of e Wind in the Willows. Based on Kenneth Grahame’s book, this production takes an unsuspecting audience on an exciting journey to meet Mole, Ratty, Badger and Toad in their homes and follows them as they pursue the weasely weasels and sly stoats. e event is full of music and dance, starting with a picnic and ending with a dance involving the entire audience. Epping Forest provides an outstanding, natural stage for this wonderful production. ere will be two performances, 11am – 2pm and 3pm-6pm. e Illyria performances will once again take place in the stunning setting of the grounds of e Temple, Wanstead Park. e programme includes: • e Comedy of Errors, Friday 7 July, 7pm – 9.30pm (gates open at 6pm). e Bard’s shortest, funniest and most rumbustious comedy. • e Emperor’s New Clothes, ursday 10 August, 3pm-5pm. is family performance tells the classic tale of e Emperor, who is a lovely man, but perhaps not the best judge of character. • Pride and Prejudice, Sunday 20 August, 3pm-5pm. It is fitting to tell Jane Austen’s perhaps most popular story in this Regency setting. Wanstead Park was the site of its own real-life drama to rival any fiction, with the notorious fates of Catherine Tylney Long, the Wanstead heiress and Regency cad, William Wellesley Pole. is performance of Pride and Prejudice is a sparkling adaptation, based entirely on the original novel. Tickets are priced at £14.95 adult, £8.95 child and £2.95 infant. In addition to Open Air eatre, the usual varied and exciting programme of events are taking place throughout Epping Forest this summer. To book or for further information visit www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/eppingforestevents or telephone 020 7332 1911. We strongly recommend booking early for all events, to avoid disappointment. n

BRAESIDE - A SMALL GIRLS’ SCHOOL WITH A BIG VISION A more personalised single sex education
A
t Braeside we believe in the value of smaller classes. We are an ‘all through’ school in Buckhurst Hill for around 170 girls from 2½ to 16. Our class sizes are much smaller than in other schools, and this means we can provide a more personalised education with more individual attention in an environment that enables girls to progress, achieve and flourish. Not all children learn in the same way and some will excel in a smaller, more nurturing school. With an average of 12 pupils per class (some classes with fewer), we have high staff to pupil ratios and lessons are tailor-made to each individual. Teaching extends and supports, and teachers are able to give extensive feedback. From the youngest in our Early Years through to the oldest at GCSE level, Braeside girls are valued as unique individuals who contribute to the school community. In our smaller environment the girls become more confident and find it easier to develop the academic, creative and personal skills necessary for life. By choosing Braeside for your daughter you are choosing a family-owned school with strong traditions, values and morals. Our experienced staff will care not just for your child’s academic success but also for her welfare. Respect, moral values and good manners are also virtues that are encouraged and developed. e broad curriculum is supported by a variety of activities that offer stimulating opportunities for the girls to experience. ere is an extensive programme of clubs and activities, with numerous educational trips and residential visits. and after school clubs allow for a 7.30am start and 6pm finish. e families who choose Braeside for their daughters are attracted by the smaller environment that helps develop the skills needed to face the future with confidence. Each child is prepared for their next stage of her education to suit both her character and academic ability. In 2015 Braeside joined e Oak-Tree Group of Schools. e four schools - Braeside, Coopersale Hall, Normanhurst and Oaklands - are privately-owned and share the same visions. Braeside pupils have the best of all worlds as while their own school provides a small, nurturing environment, they benefit from regular collaboration with similar-aged pupils from their sister schools. Shared learning experiences, inter-school competitions and extra-curricular events feature strongly with notable events including the Oak-Tree Year 3 Camp for some 80 pupils, the Oak-Tree Performing Arts Festival for some 330 pupils, the Oak-Tree Art Exhibition for GCSE pupils, the Oak-Tree Fireworks Display 1000 people and the Oak-Tree Summer Ball for parents. Braeside is a small school, but with access to extensive resources it has a very big vision. n

THE HIGHLIGHTS OF CHINA AS EXPERIENCED BY MICHELLE HARRIS
T
his trip was a fulfilment of a lifetime’s ambition. An opportunity to see some of the most exciting sites in the world in a whirlwind trip which would satisfy intellectual curiosity and to also experience one of man’s greatest achievements: e Great Wall of China. Having looked at various operators for this trip, I decided to travel with the highly revered, Jules Verne. e itinerary looked relentless but in one short week, the main sites could be visited and savoured; ample time for photographs and therefore enough memorabilia to reflect upon this spectacular week. First visit upon arrival to Chengdu was the Panda Breeding Research Centre. ey are magnificent. e most adorable of creatures, their idea of a happy place is to have an area to themselves (other than cubs who are prepared to share), plenty of bamboo and somewhere to sleep. From Chengdu to Xian and a visit to the Shaanxi Provincial History Museum in order to understand the importance of the Terracotta Warriors before visiting the sites. e warriors represented the armies of Qin Shi Huang (first Emperor of China) and were sculptured in order to protect him in his afterlife. Each warrior is unique with a different face, varying heights but similar expression of focus, determination and destiny. Although many more soldiers are still being restored, the original army consisted of 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses and 150 cavalry horses. is visit alone was worth the travel. To see the warriors is to appreciate the importance and splendour of their discovery in 1974. en back to the very comfortable Titan Hotel (in which every room is a suite) to recoup and prepare for the next step of this very exciting journey. 1 4 JUNE 2017
Back to Beijing via the bullet train and views across the countryside. Six hours later and having transferred to the luxurious Radisson Blu Beijing, we were again, up early for another day of unrivalled adventure. A leisurely walk along Jinli Street and a visit to the Temple of Heaven but the best day’s excursions were saved for last: Forbidden City, Tian An Man Square and e Great Wall. Fortunately the cable car was working so the climb was not as arduous as it might have been but still, walking along the wall is not for the faint-hearted but oh! It was so worth it.
Of all my travels and the places that I have ever visited, there are very few that can compare with the majesty of The Great Wall. rough their expertise of the region, Jules Verne have developed a tour which comfortably encompasses a mammoth experience and adventure. Not one minute was wasted yet at no time did I feel unable to keep up – everything was gauged to perfection. Absolutely recommend …n

CHIGWELL - RODING VALLEY MEADOWS
E
ssex Wildlife Trust’s Roding Valley Meadows nature reserve, near Chigwell, is the largest remaining area of water meadows in Essex.
It consists of flower-rich hay meadows beside the meandering River Roding. In parts wet and elsewhere dry, it is bounded by thick hedgerows, together with a small amount of scrub, secondary woodland and tree plantation. e meadows came to exist under an ancient system of management, which included grazing and hay cutting. Essex Wildlife Trust mimics this system in their management, using traditional breeds of cattle and continuing with a summer hay cut. is method ensures that wildlife-rich water meadows, which are rare and in decline elsewhere in the county, are preserved. ere is an abundance of beautiful wild flowers in spring and summer, including Southern Marsh Orchid, Devil's-Bit Scabious, Ragged Robin, Marsh Marigold and Yellow Watercress, all of which flourish. e meadows are perfect habitat for several species of butterfly, too, including skippers, blues and Meadow Brown. e meadows are a haven for birds. In spring and summer, Sedge Warblers breed in the riverside scrub. Both Whitethroat and Lesser Whitethroat frequent the hedgerows, which are such a distinctive part of the British countryside and vitally important for wildlife, too – not just for breeding but as shelter and a food source. ere is up to ten miles of hedgerow on the reserve, much of which is also managed traditionally, by laying and coppicing. Late summer sees flocks of finches, such as Goldfinch, on the seed heads of thistle and teasel. e river is a reliable site for Kingfisher and Grey Heron. Look for Little Egret and Little Grebe, too. Kestrel, Buzzard and Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers can be found elsewhere on the reserve. • Roding Valley Meadows were declared a local nature reserve in 1986. From 1938 to 1964, part of the reserve RAF Chigwell; a number of features from the former site remain. ese include the balloon rotundas, from which barrage balloons were launched to protect North London

BUCKETS LISTS, DREAMS AND PERSONAL BENEFITS WORDS: MICHELLE B. HARRIS
At the tender age of eighteen, I wrote my Bucket and Wish List. This outlined everything I hoped to achieve within my lifetime…
L
ike most people, there have been unexpected pitfalls along the way but for most of us, a curved line means that we develop on multiple levels along our personal journey rather than adopt a stance of complacency. We can’t have a dream come true… if we don’t have a dream. Taking time out to just think about what we want, can open our minds and hearts to the possibilities that may be achieved, as compared to missing out on opportunities simply because they had never been considered or prioritised. e Bucket List is nearly finished and not that I have imminent plans to meet my maker, but what is the point of waiting until it’s too late and you’re not physically or mentally able to fulfil your dreams or ambitions… I therefore have been addressing my Bucket List for the last thirty years and as appropriate or possible. My life became the Bucket List rather than a last minute stampede through a desperate overdue desire. We all make plans and have hopes, whether financial, personal, how to help others or self-fulfilment. As a writer, my work involves understanding the human condition, what motivates people and understanding a purpose or aspiration. By observing others, will ultimately help us to understand ourselves, our weaknesses and from where we should find strength and

inspiration from those who lead and not those who follow. I recently went to China and managed to climb e Great Wall and whilst doing so, observed those around me. People from all over the world and of varying ages but noticeably, predominantly older people… those who had planned this trip as part of a later in life experience, probably at retirement or at a certain financial status. However if we leave things too late, perhaps we won’t enjoy them. Sometimes the reality of the dream can under deliver and the moment has passed from its optimum point but that doesn’t mean you give up – simply that it might be harder. …Carpe Diem; seize the moment. at doesn’t mean being reckless or making irrational decisions but simply ascertaining when the time is right. Life is not a dress rehearsal so grab your moment with both hands and enjoy! n

The Master Distiller uses a secret recipe of eleven botanicals, including some traditionally used for making cordials in the 18th Century, as well as juniper, orange peel and English coriander with the unique addition of red cole to give the gin its long, lingering finish. Horseradish, or red cole as it was known in Dakin’s day, was used to revive weary travellers journeying by coach and horses from London to Scotland. Joanne Moore, who is only the seventh Master Distiller at G&J Distillers to hold the title since 1761, selects the botanicals and oversees the gin’s handcrafted distillation. Thomas Dakin Gin is currently distilled at the world’s oldest gin distillers in Warrington, Cheshire. Thomas Dakin Distillers are committed to building a gin distillery in Manchester in the near future. Thomas Dakin Gin is a juniper-led classic style gin with sweet orange and citrus notes and a pepper and savoury finish, thanks to the cubeb berries and red cole. Thomas Dakin Gin is gluten free. Thomas Dakin Gin is available in Waitrose and Harvey Nichols stores nationwide. It is also available from Booths, Amazon, Ocado.com, 31Dover.com and GinFoundry.com as well as fine bars and restaurants in Manchester and throughout the UK, and World Duty Free Airport shops in the UK and Spain. RRP £29.00 for 70cl ABV: 42%.

aunched in 2012, it is a super-premium, crystal clear vodka distilled from the whey of milk and treated to a secret blending process created by dairy farmer Jason Barber. His inspiration came from a desire to diversify the produce from his 250 strong dairy herd and his personal interest in vodka. Most vodka is made from grain or potato whereas Black Cow is uniquely made entirely from milk. The milk is separated into curds and whey. The whey, which contains the sugar needed to produce alcohol, is fermented, using a special yeast, into a milk beer. The milk beer is then distilled and treated to Black Cow’s secret blending process. The vodka is triple filtered and finished before being hand bottled. The vodka has no additives or flavourings, is gluten free and is suitable for those with lactose intolerance, as all the milk sugar (lactose) has been converted into alcohol. Black Cow has won several awards including a Gold Medal from the the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition and has a clean, smooth taste perfect for sipping chilled or mixing in cocktails such as the Dirty Cow Martini, the Dorset Donkey, Pink Cow and Tonic and the Mos’cow’ Mule.
Black Cow have recently opened their doors for the first time to the public and launched the Black Cow Distillery Tours. The Distillery Experience includes a tour of the distillery, a cocktail making class and lunch in the new Bar & Kitchen with a menu created by Mark Hix, a long time fan of Black Cow. TRAVEL
WHY USE A TRAVEL AGENT
W
hen online travel booking sites have become the norm for people to book their travels, everybody soon became their own travel agents. For a number of years, we’ve seen the closure of a number of high street travel agencies as self-booking tools grew stronger than ever. e fate of a travel agent has been on dangerous grounds over the last decade, if we are to believe the headlines and articles that were written about the industry. e traditional brochure-laden travel agent as we know it may be gone, but the last few years have seen the rise of luxury travel agents and many returning customers who no longer trust booking online. Here are the reasons why we will be seeing more of luxury travel agents or travel designers, as some of them are known. 1.) Online booking sites were not designed with the luxury traveller in mind. Online travel booking sites do not necessarily target luxury travellers. Most flight aggregator and hotel booking websites were created to search for the cheapest fares/ rates and promotions. ese are not the elements that a luxury traveller requires when travelling. As we have discovered with previous years’ luxury travel trends, most luxury travellers have embraced multi-generational travelling and as such, require complex bookings over multiple villas and rooms in resorts and hotels. Special requests are a normal part of a luxury traveller’s itinerary. In their article “e Super Rich are Leaving Technology in the Draw”, Forbes rightfully and aptly describes organising trips for luxury travellers more similar to planning a concert tour for e Rolling Stones than looking for the best deals on airfare and accommodation. 2.) Luxury travellers are getting more adventurous Luxurious adventurers are exploring farther. Adventure travel mixed with luxury is a growing trend. Most luxury travellers these days want adventures beyond the brochures. In fact, it seems that the more an activity or tour is in a brochure, the more some of these luxury travellers will avoid it. e past two years’ luxury travel trend predictions included reports that luxury travellers not only want high-end products. ey want products, destinations, and experiences that no one, or only very few have done. Experience has played a huge part in influencing traveller’s
3 4 JUNE 2017
decisions, including luxury ones. As luxurious adventurers go to more far-flung destinations and engage in bolder activities, this involves complex itineraries and requests so a trip like this is best handled by an experienced travel agent. 3.) Luxury Travellers need advice from someone who’s been there Luxury travellers want an agent who’s been there personally Luxury Travel agents are twice as likely to be well-travelled than the regular travel agent. ere was a recent discussion on Flyertalk forum, a site where hundreds of thousands of frequent fliers worldwide gather and share travel tips. One member stated that he uses a travel agent because he or she may provide an insight about the destination he’s going to. Knowing that the agent has been to a destination and may have partnerships with travel brands in that area gives travellers a sense of confidence. Luxury travellers need more than just an agent who knows a brochure from the first page to last. ey actually want someone to tell, show and describe to them their own personal experiences. As the luxury travel agent is someone they would have established trust with, they rely on the agent’s personal experience and advice. e agent also knowing their client’s travel style, they can advise appropriately on whether a destination or an activity is recommended. 4.) It’s not just for the luxury traveller. Many are back to use the service of a travel agent. Millennials are the fastest growing segment of travel agency users. Some consumers who used to book their own travels online are now reverting back to the services of a travel agent. Studies reveal that one of the fastest growing segments of travel agency users are technology-tied Millennials. ey may spend a lot of their waking hours glued to technology, but not all of them actually have the time to book and plan their travel itinerary. Increasing factors of travel disruption such as airline delays, natural disasters, and global terrorism have reinforced travellers that they need a professional to look after their itineraries, should any of the disruption factors occur. People’s busier lifestyles also mean that they would rather call, send an SMS or email one key contact for changes in their travels, rather than be put on hold or email a generic customer service centre. n

It was basically just a tightt vest and shor shorts, but eyebrow ws were still raised due to the previously unseen u tight fit. However oweverr,, showing the belly button n was still uncharrtered tered territorry! y! On July 5 1946, the bikini as we know it today wass born. bor Inspired by seeing women in n St T Tropez ropez rolling up their swimsuits to get a better tan, engineer Louis Réard designed the first st bikini. He named his design esign ‘bikini’ affter ter Bikini Bikiini A Atoll, toll, where post-war testing on the atomic bo omb was happening. His rreasoning? “I actually looked forward to my appointments” WORDS BY JENNIFER SPENCER
A
nother patient overjoyed with her new smile at Smile Design by Ash.
Our wonderful patient Lesley recently left looking totally fabulous and feeling confident. She is beautiful inside and out, and now she has a smile to match! An absolute pleasure to treat. Lesley approached our practice wanting a new fresher looking smile. With a combination of general and cosmetic treatment, including some restorative work, teeth whitening, and four porcelain veneers, this amazing result was achieved. I asked Lesley how she found her experience with us. “e overall experience was wonderful; I actually looked forward to coming to my appointments. It was totally pain free.” “e team were fantastic, I felt their empathy and had never really felt this before at a dental practice.” Since Lesley has completed her treatment, she feels more confident and is proud to smile. At a business meeting recently Lesley was greeted by an old colleague; someone she had not seen in months. “Hi Lesley you look well, no you look really well, great in fact!” Clearly the impact Lesley’s smile has made to her appearance and confidence was shining through. Lesley said to me that the compliment made her feel good inside, a genuine compliment is something that can truly be felt. Lesley has her own company called SLR Wealth Services Limited, which was founded in 2009. SLR Services specialise in sharing ways of investing so that you can increase your income, and achieve capital growth through your cash or pensions. Lesley will also introduce you to trusted business partners who have been servicing her clients for many
years, who specialise in all areas of financial planning. If you feel Lesley could help you, her contact details are 020 32451126. Alternatively you can book your FREE consultation at enquiries@slrwealth.com or www.slrwealth.com. n

SUMMER FEET Use these 10 summer footcare tips from The Society of Chiropodists & Podiatrists to get your feet in shape this summer!
1 2 3 4 5
1. TRIM YOUR TOENAILS FOR SUMMER Use proper nail clippers and cut straight across, not too short, and not down at the corners as this can lead to ingrown nails. File them, if that’s easier. 2. GO BAREFOOT Go barefoot or wear open-toed sandals whenever you can in the hot weather (except when you’re in a communal shower or changing area) to help stop your feet getting sweaty and smelly. 3. FORGET FLIP-FLOPS Don’t be tempted to wear flip-flops all through the summer. They don’t provide support for your feet and can give you arch and heel pain if you wear them for too long. 4. CHANGE SOCKS DAILY If you have to wear socks in hot weather, change them once a day and choose ones that contain at least 70% cotton or wool to keep your feet dry and stop them smelling.
6. BANISH BLISTERS Blisters strike more often in hot weather. They’re caused by rubbing, especially between the toes if you’re wearing flip-flops with “thongs”. Lorraine Jones, a podiatrist from The Society of Chiropodists & Podiatrists, says the key to preventing summer blisters is to keep your feet dry, wear shoes or sandals that fit well and aren’t too loose, and give your feet ample rest so they don’t get hot and sweaty. If you do get a blister, don’t put a plaster over it. Leave it to dry out on its own.

5. REMOVE HARD SKIN Hard, cracked skin around the heels is very common in summer, often caused by openbacked sandals and flip-flops rubbing around the edge of the heel. Use a foot file, emery board or

pumice stone to gently rub away the hard skin, then apply a rich moisturising cream such as aqueous cream or E45 to soften the skin.
7. RING THE CHANGES Wear a variety of different sandals and shoes during summer to help prevent cracked heels, hard skin and blisters. Lorraine says: “We understand that when the summer arrives, people are naturally going to opt for lightweight footwear such as flip-flops and flimsy sandals. However, we’d recommend alternating your footwear so that you aren’t wearing this style of shoe day in and day out.”
8
8. WATCH OUT FOR FOOT INFECTIONS The floors of communal showers and changing
9. TACKLE SWEAT If you have sweaty feet in the summer, it’s even more important to wash your feet each morning and evening in warm, soapy water then dry them thoroughly. You can also use an antibacterial wash, which helps deal with foot odour. Then wipe them with cotton wool dipped in surgical spirit and dust them with talc.
10. GET HELP IF YOU NEED IT Basic hygiene and nail cutting should be all you need to keep your feet healthy. But if you have any problems, such as hard skin that you can’t get rid of, it’s best to seek professional help. Your GP will be able to advise you on local foot services. Registered podiatrists (also known as chiropodists) are trained in all aspects of care for the feet. The Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists can help you find a local podiatrist. “
Plexr is a cordless hand operated micro-surgical device that transfers concentrated heat to the treated skin tissue. It uses the difference in voltage between the device and the patients skin, generating a small electrical arc, similar to lightening. Plexr ionises the existing gases in the gap atmosphere (that would be the space between the needle tip and the patient’s skin) producing plasma. The small lightening sublimates the fluids contained in the superficial part of the skin, without unwanted heat transmission to the adjacent tissues. Additionally it acts on the superficial layer of the skin preserving the lower layers, which reduces drastically any potential permanent skin damage that could be caused by the misuse of conventional lasers.
”
‘My under eye bags were making me look so tired, being a man make up tricks are not an option. I was quite scared to have surgery and wanted to try something less invasive, Frances suggested the new Plexr treatment , this is me 8 weeks after a single treatment and I am delighted, friends and family are commenting on how fresh and well I'm looking,I will certainly be having another session as Frances said after 2 the results will be even better’ R.E - Hertfordshire

Frances suggested I try Plexr to help smooth out the eyelid skin and give me a fresher more youthful eye area. She explained I may need 2-3 treatments. ALL ABOUT EYES WITH FRANCES FURLONG
T
he moment you interact with someone, you look into the eyes. Eyes are the most expressive element of personality, tell a lot about you and are considered the mirror of the soul. e most common facial complaint from potential aesthetic clients is that they 'look tired' or they are concerned with heavy eyelids or puffy dark under eyes. is month I will focus on some of the most common problems and how they can be dealt with. When we’re feeling a little fatigued we are battling those pesky dark shadows under our eyes. But why do we get dark circles under our eyes when we’re tired? It’s important to note that dark circles and eye-bags are two separate things, although they often appear in tandem! - Dark circles are down to genes as much as lack of sleep - e skin underneath your eyes is thin and covers muscles, fatty tissue and blood vessels. Dark circles are the result of light being reflected back from blood vessels sitting just below the skin’s surface. - How dark that area is has a lot to do with skin colour and thickness. Why are they more prominent when you’re tired, it’s because your blood vessels increase in size! DAILY TIPS TO HELP DARK CIRCLES - Limit your salt intake - Apply your concealer in a triangle under your eye rather than along the dark area - Use a daily vitamin C serum under the eyes and an SPF protector - Nothing beats 8 hours sleep a night, exercise and a good diet - Take antihistamines and allergy nose sprays as allergies will worsen the under eye area - FACT - Gravity will also affect the skin under the eyes in time, causing tissue to droop a little. EYE TREATMENT OPTIONS: Problem Deep lines and creases around the outer eye often referred to as Crows feet : they are the fine lines and wrinkles around our eyes. For the most part they're caused by sun exposure, but certain lifestyle habits like smoking can make them worse. Years and years of smiling and squinting can also play a part in how they're formed. Solution Muscle relaxing injections placed correctly really help to reduce the heavy smiling and squinting action that contributes to the formation of the lines. In some case a light dermal filler injection may be beneficial as a stand alone treatment or in conjunction with muscle relaxing treatments. Problem Hollow sunken eyes, this is when you can see a hollow ring under the lower eye. Hollow eyes are caused by the loss of orbital fat in the lower eyelids, in many clients I see they often have a darker tone to the skin which exaggerates and highlights the problem more so. Treatment A good hyaluronic acid based dermal filler injected deeply
5 4 JUNE 2017
can really help, in some cases choosing a product with additional depigmenting agents will help. Using a daily vitamin C or vitamin A based product can help to lighten and thicken the delicate under eye area skin as it is very thin naturally. Problem Under eye bags as you age, the tissue structures and muscles supporting your eyelids weaken. e skin may start to sag, and fat that is normally confined to the area around the eye (orbit) can move into the area below your eyes. Also, the space below your eyes can accumulate fluid, making the under-eye area appear puffy or swollen. Several factors can lead to this, including: Fluid retention due to changes in weather (for example, hot, humid days), hormone levels or eating salty foods. Not getting enough sleep. Allergies or dermatitis, especially if puffiness is accompanied by redness and itching. Heredity - under-eye bags can run in families. Also can be an indication of thyroid disease. Treatment Lower blepharoplasty Surgery is a good solution to help resolve these problems. However many of my clients would not consider surgery or are too frightened. I am now able to provide them with a non surgical softer approach to help - Plexr, which is giving amazing results. Problem Sagging loose upper eyelid skin, a common problem in many individuals, eyelid drooping is excess sagging of the upper eyelid. e edge of the upper eyelid may be lower than it should be (ptosis) or there may be excess baggy skin in the upper eyelid (dermatochalasis). Eyelid drooping is often a combination of both conditions. Treatment Again surgical upper blepharoplasty is a good choice, but if it's not for you then again Plexr soft surgery treatments could be for you, normally 1-2 sessions are required and results can last around two years. Problem Slight puffiness and first signs of under eye ageing or darker skin. Treatment Perfect Skin's bespoke tired eye treatment consists of mesotherapy injections of vitamins and anti ageing solutions in conjunction with derma pen to strengthen and tighten the delicate skin. n Before After

Twills and velvets have been sourced from Saville Row’s finest suppliers, upholstery services are by heritage British furniture manufacturer Artistic Upholstery and casegoods have been created by world-renowned Italian furniture brand, Porada. The Harrods of London collection draws inspiration from Art-Deco jewellery and tailoring. Each piece combines an elegant and timeless silhouette with
unexpected embellishments and detailing, giving the collection an understated yet intriguing aesthetic. Annalise Fard, Director of Home at Harrods: “We are thrilled to be launching Harrods of London’s first furniture collection this spring. Designing a furniture collection in-house was the next step after the relaunch of Harrods Home four years ago. Since then, we have introduced new brands in a range of styles across the furniture department, curated collections of lighting and accessories, and moulded Harrods into a design destination like no other. The elegant designs created by the Harrods Interiors team bring together contemporary understated finishes and the finest materials. A nod to Harrods heritage and the 1930s, brings an air of sophistication to the collection; I love how the clasps of each of the occasional pieces encase the marble table-tops, so evocative of the solitaire setting of a ring.” The collection is the latest addition to Harrods of London, the store’s own label, which includes womenswear, menswear, layette and luxury linens. Butter-soft leathers and fine wool and cashmere feature in each category, and the furniture collection is in keeping with this sophisticated aesthetic. URBAN MYTH REVEALS WHY THE KITCHEN IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ROOM IN THE HOUSE
W
e are a nation that loves food, we love to eat out and more often we love to eat in. Families come together in the kitchen and friends are entertained. e kitchen is more than just a food preparation area; it’s the heart of your home. A new kitchen can also add value to your home, by creating a space that combines function and style, not only will you enjoy using it for years to come if you decide to sell, buyers will pay a premium to inherit a well thought-out, designer kitchen. Choosing the right company to design, build and fit your ideal kitchen can be a challenge. At Urban Myth we have over 30 years’ experience in the kitchen industry, there isn’t much we don’t know or have already experienced when it comes to kitchens. As well as manufacturing our own range ‘Urban Life’ at our factory in Essex we also import the highest quality German and Italian brands to add to our extensive kitchen range. From the very first meeting, we invest a great deal of time learning about your needs and lifestyle. Once we have your complete wish-list we can suggest the kitchen ranges and styles that we feel will match and you can see and feel the quality of our products at your showroom appointment. With an almost endless list of materials, finishes, and colours to choose from, no two Urban Myth kitchens are the same. We offer a full service, from concept to completion. e journey begins with the design team and our project managers

and logistics team oversee the delivery and installation process. And we believe that our service shouldn’t end there, If you have any problems, we also have a team dedicated to looking after you even when your job is finished. Our membership of the KBSA and Trust Mark is testament to our working practices and qualities, to ensure that when you buy with Urban Myth you buy with confidence. n We recently designed and installed an Urban eme Concrete and Taupe kitchen with Quartz worktop, for the McNally’s, a family of five, who had decided to extend their London home rather than move. ey needed a functional kitchen to accommodate their growing family and complement their modern taste. See the back cover for the finished results!
“While the kitchens are head and a shoulder above the competitors, the service is also second to none… the whole team are professional, courteous and approachable” Mrs McNally, London

HOME & GARDEN PROPERTY HOUSE &
The Seasons of Origin With hot Summer months on the horizon, now is the ideal time to make use of an indoor swimming pool. However, these fantastic leisure facilities are the perfect addition to a family home all year round. Origin, the UK’s original luxury indoor pool company, considers the different ways to make the most of your pool house during every season.
Summer As temperatures rise, a pool offers a welcome relief from the heat. It is a fun and relaxing space providing entertainment for each member of the family. Bi-fold doors bring the outdoors in, connecting your pool with the garden. By opening them up you create a natural breeze and can privately catch the sun as you lay poolside. When it comes to entertainment, a pool house certainly adds the wow factor to any BBQ. Whether it be a children’s party or an evening in with friends, hosting gatherings in the pool house is sure to put a smile on your guest’s faces.
Autumn
Winter
As Autumn leaves make their first appearance, gaze out at the spectacular scenery from the comfort of your pool house. Or even better, turn it into a social venue and have friends around to enjoy the views whilst you cook up some treats in the fully fitted kitchen, or prepare Autumn cocktails in the bar. These remarkable leisure facilities help you to maintain a workout regime all year-round. For children, it might be a quick dip after school, while you can jump in and refresh after a session in the gym.
Increase the temperature of your pool and it becomes a great place to spend time during the cold winter months. Instead of heading away from home to find a fun activity that accommodates the whole family, go to the pool for the day. As the children play in the pool, adults can either relax in the spa pool, use the gym or watch the TV in the seating area. It really is an entertainment space for everyone.
Spring Wave goodbye to Winter and open the pool house doors because Spring is on the way! Relax after a long day and watch the evenings pass by, whether that be from the inbuilt bar, the spa pool or simply sitting on the decking outside. To speak to the Origin experts please contact 01895 453996

Richard explains, ‘’When the opportunity arose to take the short journey to the shop front below our previous office it seemed the natural progression for the company. Since being formed in 2012 we have steadily grown our portfolio and enhanced our reputation as a professional, experienced and approachable agent who cares a great deal about the service a client receives. In a market where there is much competition, be it high street or online I believe the core values of communication, trust and transparency are what makes the difference and that people buy people. e process may be the same but the circumstances surrounding each transaction never are, and this is where agents differ. Firstly understanding the process is key, enabling clients grasp the 6 6 JUNE 2017

Asides from this most attractive shop front the attention to detail is apparent as soon as you walk through the door, from the hand painted gold leaf signature to the newly installed period panelled walls. is does certainly not feel like your average high street agent, yet it is a most refreshing experience.
