And the king went up to the house of the Lord, and with him all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem and the priests and the prophets, all the people, both small and great. And he read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant that had been found in the house of the Lord. ~ 2 Kings 23:2 (ESV) ~ Here’s the lesson. When God’s Word is received with humility and obedience, transformation follows. Here’s the addendum to the lesson. The revival that began with Josiah faded with the next generation. As we learn in Nehemiah 13, revival must be intentionally sustained from one day to the next, and one generation to the next.
Here’s a personal challenge from the lesson. If you truly want to live a life that reflects transformation, here are 5 Integrity Questions you should be ready to answer: 1. Am I Honest? 2. Am I Truthful? 3. Am I Faithful? 4. Am I Pure? 5. Am I Dedicated?

WHEN THE BOOK WAS FOUND King Josiah was only eight years old when he began to reign. This was around 640 B.C. By the time he was twenty-six, the temple in Jerusalem had fallen into a state of disrepair. During renovations, Hilkiah the priest made a nation-changing discovery: the long-neglected Book of the Law. It had not been publicly read for decades. And it certainly hadn’t been obeyed. It had been, apparently, completely forgotten. When the scroll was brought to Josiah and read aloud, the young king could not ignore it. He recognized how far the nation had wandered from God’s revealed will. He tore his royal robe as a sign of grief and repentance. And then he took action. He gathered the people and read the Book publicly. He renewed their covenant with God. He removed idols and restored worship. A season of revival began. This happened because a young leader rediscovered Scripture and took it seriously.
