My brief idea-
My idea for this project is to create a short (between 2-5 minute) documentary on the misunderstood history of pigeons. My project aim is to make the public understand pigeons more, and understand why they need our help, how we can help them.
To form my outcome, I will research the past, present and future of pigeons, and study them through primary and secondary research (information from rescues and drawings, photography and videos of my own), once building a portfolio of research, clips, and possibly interviews and drawings.
I will compile my research together along with music until I am able to create a documentary that can communicate why pigeons are so misunderstood, their sad history, and why I want to help them to result in the information persuading others to share my view, which is a key point of the brief.
Whyadocumentary?
I have chosen for my outcome of this module to be a documentary, the main reason for this being that it is well suited for the brief being reportage based, I feel it will be the best way for me personally to display my research and opinions to make a meaningful and emotive project.
Another reason for documentary being my chosen medium is that for the last two units I have wanted to produce something that involves filmmaking skills however the idea has fallen through the gaps, or I have run out of time, but if I were to make it my priority for this project this shouldn’t be the case.
Making a documentary also seems like a sensible choice because I should not create any waste that could harm the environment or pigeons and the areas, they inhabit.
A drawback to me choosing this method is that it will be a challenge for me to get the confidence to film in public, however I could overcome this by going out with friends or in small amounts to adjust and build confidence.
Whypigeons?
Like most people, when I was younger, I saw pigeons as something that was dirty and lived on the streets, but when I found out their true history (something I will discuss later in this proposal) my opinion was swayed.
Now living alone in the city and being without my pets I often find myself comforted when I see a pigeon and I would enjoy getting to learn how to help the creatures that have helped me so much in the last few months.
