Set in the lush Rutland countryside, The Tower is one of just eleven stunning apartments at the pristinely converted country house Stocken Hall. The magnificent, first floor, period apartment comprises the light and spacious drawing room, family/dining room, and kitchen, before curling into the eponymous tower, consisting of the master bedroom, a bathroom, and, up on the second floor, a second bedroom with en-suite shower room.
TAKE A TOUR A Grade II* listed property dating from the seventeenth century, one approaches the impressive Stocken Hall via a private road with parkland to either side. Positioned within a serene and secure location, extensive grounds await to be explored, maintained by gardeners and laid out with lawns, shrubs and mature trees with many spots to sit, whether shaded under a tree or by the fountain. The Tower is situated on the front of the main house, on the first floor, boasting marvellous views, grand rooms, high ceilings with cornicing, and huge sash windows. Parking for two cars is allocated for the apartment. When purchasing their home, the current owners instantly fell in love with the building, the apartment, its views and

Returning to the family/dining room, one can access a drawing room to the right, featuring charming, painted wall paneling, and two casement sash windows fitted with window seats to gaze at the grounds from. With an electric fire the owners note that it is a “comfortable room to be in, whatever the weather, is airy, elegant and a great space for a desk to do some reading or writing.” Thanks to its large floorspace it has also acted as the perfect place for grandchildren to spread out and play with their toys. Walking back across to the left of the family/dining room, the rest of the apartment awaits. A unique hallway with a curved feature wall showcases mullioned windows and the original stone.“You can literally touch the walls of the 17th century building here, the raw limestone,” the owners enthused. To the left is a small inner hall connecting to a bathroom with counter-top basin with mixer tap, an Aqualisa power shower with boost and remote control, a bath, WC and underfloor heating. The large master bedroom is also off this hall with “brilliant views and amazing natural light” from a deep bay with south-facing stone-mullioned windows looking over the front lawns and fountain. A further window sits to the side and a bespoke fitted wardrobe offers plenty of hanging space and shelving.
Re-entering the curving limestone hallway, stairs guide you to the second bedroom at the top of the tower, with windows on two walls, and fitted wardrobes. An en-suite shower room adjoins, with a basin, WC and shower. Reflecting on their time at the flat, the owners shared: “It has been remarkably easy to look after, partly because there’s a committee that runs the maintenance, organising the external paint work and keeping the Hall in good order. The gardeners and window cleaners come, and it has really been great for us as a bolthole, a lock up and go, especially with such a sociable community where people are so willing to pop over and check on things if asked when you are away.” Residents at Stocken Hall can also erect gazebos and marquees to host events in the grounds, for birthdays or family get-togethers for example, with permission from the committee. Having enjoyed eight years at The Tower, the owners are reluctant to leave, but with an expanding family, require a bigger home. They said: “We will certainly miss the tranquility of the building. It is a solid, calm space and the views are just lovely. It has been a safe, secure place and a treasure over the last few years, with large reception rooms and the blissful outside area. It’s with great reluctance that we put it on the market as we have had such a wonderful time.”
AROUND STOCKEN HALL While set within open Rutland countryside, along a quiet lane, and providing easy access to walks, Stocken Hall offers quick access to the A1, which has been perfect for the current owners when they travel to and from London. A short distance from gorgeous towns and villages, Stretton is a mere mile away, with a village inn, and a social hub has developed in the church, holding a range of events for locals.
