A delightful, substantial and unique house set well back from a country road at the bottom of a hedge-lined driveway. Rooms boast impressive proportions, while the house is flanked by an acre of landscaped garden. The property comprises further acres of paddocks and parkland beyond. Greystones has been the much-loved home of the current owners for the last twenty-five years. Within are rich, colourful interiors -– the work of the owner, who, with an innate sense of decorative flair, has gathered unique furniture, objects and curios over years. An oriental-meets-eclectic theme (with plenty of surprising detail) pervades throughout.

The extensive front garden is a beautiful blend of style, formality and freedom. ‘Essentially there are three lawns. The largest is surrounded by pleaching and is good for children to play and run ragged on. An oval one leads directly from the front door and is quite well planted, and a conjoining smaller one with mature yews around it is an extremely peaceful space. The formal framework of box hedging and the walled-off section ensures it looks lovely in winter as well as summer. In the spring it’s an absolute riot of colour,’ the owner attests. ‘It’s very quiet, too, with unrivalled privacy’.

Greystones is well located with a primary school, butcher’s shop and Co-op found in the village close by. It is in the catchment area for nearby Spalding High School (for girls) and Spalding Grammar School (for boys), both excellent state secondary schools. The bypass also provides a handy direct route to Peterborough and easy access to lots of things nearby. As the owner sums up: ‘We are really going to miss it here. I am leaving our weathervane on top of the house, as it represents how I feel about the place – the two Picasso women are joyfully running wild and free, just how we have lived here at Greystones.’
