Fresh Face: Commons on Vine

WHEN THE LANCASTER COUNTY CONVENTION CENTER (LCCC) opened its door in 2009, it transformed the downtown core, bringing thousands of visitors to Lancaster each year and inspiring a new chapter for the city’s economic vitality.

Anchored by core features like Freedom Hall and the adjoined Lancaster Marriott, the dynamic event venue took shape, with the south end of LCCC designed to be a conference and convention registration area. However, meeting planners rarely used it as it was originally intended, and the configuration of the 17,000-square-foot space became limiting.

“After meeting with key people from our team, a plan emerged to reimagine the space,” shared Kevin Molloy, Executive Director of the LCCCA. “We crafted a proposal to knock down walls,

add customizable amenities, and bring new life for prospective event planners.”

Construction for the project began in mid-2025, along with the debut of a new visual brand and name for the space: Commons on Vine.

“Our vision was to design a unique space that sets us apart from other venues so we can draw in new clients, new events, and new excitement along Vine Street,” Kevin said.

Officially opening its doors in February 2026, Commons on Vine boasts three separate event areas. Two of these spaces are 100-person breakout rooms, named ‘The Statesman’ and ‘The Confidant,’ respectively—an homage to Thaddeus Stevens and Lydia Hamilton Smith. The third space, called ‘Common Ground,’ can host up to 300 people

and includes a 44-foot-wide floor-toceiling video wall.

Other key features include dynamic acoustics, versatile LED-lighting options, and thoughtfully arranged seating arrangements—all designed to empower event planners to host one-of-akind experiences.

“Commons on Vine reinforces LCCCA’s mission to provide economic vitality to Lancaster City and Lancaster County,” Kevin said. “This project would not have happened without the help of the Lancaster City CRIZ Authority. We are excited for how this will impact the community and our residents over the next several years.”

For more information on hosting an event at Commons on Vine, visit lancastercountyconventioncenter.com.

NYC-BASED PERFORMER Tarra Conner Jones is returning to the Fulton Theatre this spring for Hairspray , coming to the stage from April 10 to May 3. Tarra is thrilled to join the talented cast for another incredible Fulton production.

Fulton Spotlight “

I love performing at the Fulton because it’s truly an artist’s paradise. Every time I’m there, I feel seen, appreciated, and genuinely taken care of. Lancaster itself is a breath of fresh air—it feels like a Hallmark movie town, and don’t get me started on Central Market…absolutely to die for! Given the current state of our country, returning for Hairspray feels especially necessary. It tells a hard but vital story—one that we’re still called to confront through deep, honest, and robust conversation. I’m honored to have been chosen to help lead that discourse. Come hear Motormouth, and let’s get back to loving.

Fresh Face: MAKE/FILMS

FOLLOWING THE SUCCESSFUL RELEASE of their first feature-length film, Brave the Dark , in 2025, MAKE/ has several new projects in the works, including one that’s happening off camera: the transformation of their new space in Lancaster City’s northwest.

With quadruple the space of their former location above Prince Street Café, their passionate team of filmmakers have spent the last several months building out a home for the creative process.

“We were in our last spot for 13 years, and in it, we’ve produced four films in the last four years along with so many commercials and ads, which is awesome,” shared Derek Dienner, MAKE/ Founder and Executive Producer. “But it got challenging with all the stairs, between loading in gear and meeting with clients, to be on the fourth floor.”

For several years, Derek had a “dream space” list in the back of his mind—garage door access, shooting space, editorial offices, and something still in the city he loves, to name a few. When he came across the new building, it really checked every box.

Anchored by a 38-foot cyc wall, the studio will serve as a true production headquarters for the engaging films, commercials, and social content MAKE/ is known for.

“The studio really gives us the ability to have a full-service client experience all in one place while giving our talented team a really efficient place to do what they do best,” he said.

As they look towards these upcoming projects, their mission to tell impactful stories that resonate with audiences and deliver results remains at the core of their growth.

“This space symbolizes our commitment to filmmaking in Lancaster City,” Derek said. “There is an incredible creative community here, and we want to continue collaborating and creating really incredible work.”

MAKE/ invites you to find out more about their client process and what the expanded capabilities of their new studio could do for your business by visiting makefilms.cc.

Fresh Face: David Lyall Home & Design

DAVID LYALL HAS ALWAYS HAD A PASSION for beautifully designed spaces. When he purchased the family furniture business from his parents in 2005, David knew he wanted to expand the offerings, leaning into his expertise for creating custom residential and commercial interiors with intentional elegance.

In 2015, he moved the business to Prince Street in Lancaster City, and now, a decade later, David and his team are welcoming clients into their new home on North Duke Street.

“When we began to think about a new space for the business, it was so important for us to remain in the city,” David said. “While we loved our former showroom on Prince Street, this new building allows us to reach the long-term goals we have for David Lyall Design.”

One of those goals is having a space that is more accessible for the range of customers that David Lyall serves. The new showroom, a former firehouse, is all on one level—making it

ADA accessible while incorporating thoughtful design touches throughout to elevate the client experience.

“We’ve added custom built-ins and storage for our samples which creates a more interactive and intuitive space for design projects,” he said. “Overall, I feel we’ve captured the style we are known for but in a fresh, modern way.”

The unique, light-filled location also features new curated products in a more consolidated showroom—including beautiful furniture, art, and accents sourced locally and from around the globe—with triple the space for their design studio and collaborative conference spaces.

Throughout all these changes, David and his team have stayed true to the values that made their interior design business a success. “I’m excited for people to experience the new space,” David shared. “It really is a picture of the continued evolution of our design business and mission to create beautiful, personalized interiors.”

Revolutionary Lancaster

FROM THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION through Reconstruction, Lancaster stood at the heart of the nation’s most defining struggles. Here, the ideals of liberty were debated not only in words but in action—by revolutionaries, freedom seekers, abolitionists, and reformers who believed freedom and democracy demanded courage.

As a political crossroads, an abolitionist stronghold, and a refuge along the Underground Railroad, Lancaster helped define what America was—and what it could become. In moments of national crisis and transformation, this small city has played an outsized role in guiding the country toward its highest ideals.

As the nation marks America’s 250th anniversary, LancasterHistory is proud to introduce a powerful new place to explore our shared history and its relevance today. Opening in May 2026, The Thaddeus Stevens & Lydia Hamilton Smith Center for History and Democracy invites you to explore the stories and struggles of American democracy.

Fresh Face: Not Beige

MARY GRACE SOPER IS ON A MISSION to make the common more colorful by celebrating small businesses, fair trade practices, and a lifestyle rooted in intention through her new shop, Not Beige.

An artist and photographer by trade, Mary Grace comes from a family of creative entrepreneurs, taking inspiration from her mom and sister who both have owned their own creative businesses.

“My family, and especially my parents, have always fully supported my passions, and without that, I wouldn’t have been able to open the shop,” she shared.

Mary Grace had the idea for Not Beige while working on her own art at a local coffee shop. That’s when she stumbled upon the available rental space next door and began to dream of a place where she could share her love of nature, art, and all things sustainable.

“The vision was to create a cozy space focused on uplifting makers,” she said. “I’m not a fan of convenience culture when it comes to shopping, so I really wanted to stock goods that are ethically and locally made.”

The name “Not Beige” came out of a running joke between Mary Grace and her best friend.

“I always tease her that everything she owns is beige, so the name was a play on that,” she explained. “The name has evolved to be more about a movement—where intentional living happens to be a bit more colorful to me.”

With the help of her family, the shop quickly went from a dream to opening day in just three months, and Mary Grace is excited for the growth in the new year—including a line of her own custom greeting cards as well as hosting art lessons for kids in a new art studio at the back of the store.

As Mary Grace expands her offerings, she is connecting with more vendors to add to her collection, which she says represents all things good, true, and beautiful.

“I’m really impressed with all the resources available for new entrepreneurs and with the community of makers we have,” she added. “Everyone wants each other to succeed, and I’m excited to give people a happy place to shop.”

LANCASTER love for

REACH HIGH

A series brought to you by High Foundation that introduces you to business and nonprofit leaders who are thoughtfully innovating with a spirit of servant leadership.

For as long as he can remember, Marshall Snively has loved the things that make up a city. Originally from Hagerstown, Maryland, he and his family would frequent nearby Baltimore, watching as the bustling harbor took shape over the years.

When it came time to think about college and career, Marshall was drawn to architecture, but shortly into his time at the University of Maryland, he realized his passions extended beyond a singular building.

“As a kid, I remember drawing buildings and almost designing my own cities in my head,” he shared. “Then in architecture school, my urban design classes showed me that it’s not only about the building you’re designing, but how the design fits into the environment around it, and that’s what truly excited me.”

After graduation, Marshall began dreaming of an even bigger city as he set his sights on grad school for urban planning in New York City. In the meantime, he moved to Baltimore and noticed an organization called the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore that was working on investing in the central business district, which was on a decline as the waterfront developed.

A cold call and a few interviews later, Marshall found himself working on facade improvement programs, streetscape programs, and urban space redesign projects as their project coordinator. He stepped down 10 years later as the VP of Economic Development and Planning.

“I never made it to grad school or to New York, but I probably had the best hands-on education I could have found,” he shared.

“ Being a part of the extraordinary growth that’s happened here is a feeling I can’t even describe.”

Fast forward to 2005, Marshall was working for a real estate developer when he was approached by a former colleague, Lisa Riggs, about joining a new initiative in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, called the James Street Improvement District. Serendipitously, he was already familiar with the city after meeting his partner, Paul, who was a Lancaster native, just a year before. Finally, in 2007, he made the move.

“Lisa asked, ‘Do you want to do another downtown?’” Marshall reminisced. “I thought it was just going to be for a couple of years, and now it’s been nearly 20.”

In those two decades, Marshall has fallen more and more in love with Lancaster and led what is now known as Lancaster City Alliance as president for the last 10 years—guiding a growing team of passionate Lancastrians through their Building on Strength strategic plan and staying focused on their mission to ensure a clean, safe, and vibrant city for all.

“Being a part of the extraordinary growth that’s happened here is a feeling I can’t even describe,” Marshall shared.

“Developing such a fantastic team and working with our many corporate, government, and community partners to foster continued city-wide advancement—it is super rewarding.”

Dream on

LORI OBERHOLTZER

HAS ALWAYS BEEN a dreamer, drawing inspiration from a line of creatives and entrepreneurs in the design industry.

“Then I married a realtor, so homes were always a part of my story,” she added. It was in 2018 when Lori pitched the idea to flip a house to her husband, Justin. Their combined expertise and passions were the perfect match, and Lori loved every minute of the design process.

With her creative vision for starting the business and Justin’s unwavering support of her dreams, they launched Plumb + Fig. “‘Plumb’ represented Justin’s knack for precision, and ‘Fig’ symbolized my love of design which is often inspired by my surroundings—even from a unique piece of fruit!” Lori explained.

After a few successful flips together, the Oberholtzers received news that Justin had been diagnosed with ALS.

“My attention quickly turned to caregiving for him and our two kids through this unfathomable and life-altering diagnosis,” she shared. “Throughout his seven-year journey with ALS, I focused the business solely on interior design work and took on several creative projects, but on a limited basis.”

Some of those projects included commercial designs and art installations for Manheim’s SUPPLY Coworking Space and Cavod Performing Arts, as well as full-floor renovations, and most recently, a modern new build. Her approach to each project is fueled by her pursuit of constant inspiration, allowing everywhere she goes and everything she does to be a learning opportunity.

“I always start with discussing a client’s goals and style so I can infuse personality into their spaces,” she said. “People and connection are so important to me, and that’s really my favorite part of the whole process.”

After a significant loss to ALS, Lori is stepping into 2026 carrying forward a fresh passion for her work—hoping to inspire the next generation to take a chance on their dreams.

“It’s empowering to know I had an incredible framework of people who believed in and invested in me, so continuing to bring this vision to life even still is a huge accomplishment,” she said.

Fresh Face: Runcible Studios

THE LANCASTER CHAPTER of Runcible Studios’ story may be new, but Founding Principal and Lancaster native Marilyn Moedinger’s passion for architecture and design began when she was just five years old. “My mom would buy me books of house plans, and I’d whiteout all the walls to redraw them where I wanted them,” she reminisced.

Now, she brings that same passion and creativity to her clients. Marilyn founded Runcible Studios Architecture and Design in Boston in 2014, but the pandemic got her thinking about home. “I wanted to be close to family again, and I realized I could open a second office right here in the city,” she shared. “Lancaster is so cool!”

Her first big project in the area was a full renovation and interiors of a 1730s stone house on the farm where she grew up. “The house has been in our family since it was built, and it was time to give it the love it deserved while respecting its history,” she explained.

The house has since won national awards for design and is a showcase of her flair for color, texture, and art, as well as practical considerations like systems design, structure, and

function. “Where all that comes together, that’s where I thrive, especially when it seems impossible at first,” she said.

Marilyn is excited to bring her decades of experience in the built environment to Lancaster. With her background in construction, architecture, design, real estate, travel, and teaching, she's uniquely qualified to help her clients bring their dreams to life—offering high-touch client services, sophisticated design, and deep technical knowledge.

“We aren’t just ‘drawing up plans.’ We're bringing our experience to bear at all points of a project, from vision through construction,” Marilyn explained. “Our clients have busy lives and expect excellence, creativity, and something a little different from the run of the mill. And we're here for it!”

As for working on more projects in Lancaster, Marilyn is excited to be part of a community that has grown and changed over the years. “Lancaster is a special place,” she says. “I’m thrilled to be back home, working in a place and for people I care deeply about.”

BUILDING FOR life

AT CAPSTONE DESIGN + BUILD, they believe the best ideas happen when everyone’s at the table—so they pin up your projects for architects and builders to review together during what they affectionately call “Beer 30.” It’s a collaborative process where sharp eyes, honest feedback, and decades of experience all get a say. Plans get marked up, ideas get better, and yes, occasionally a beer can be found on the table. The result is smarter design, fewer surprises, and buildings that benefit from being thoughtfully questioned before a single nail is driven. Turns out a little collaboration (and maybe a cold one) goes a long way.

A fresh take

BUILT A CENTURY AGO, the former First Church of God has now been updated to address the needs of a modern congregation, while still highlighting the qualities that bring the space so much charm. The Cornerstone Design-Architects team was honored to be part of giving this historic building a refresh for Community Fellowship Church and their neighbors to enjoy for the centuries to come.

Modernizing a 100-year-old church while honoring its historic character is a daunting task, and Cornerstone helped us create a space that warmly welcomes our young families and invites new attenders. We are thankful for their partnership in building a gospel-centered hub that will impact the next generation for years to come.

FOUNDED IN 2015 by experienced wealth advisor Edward O’Gorman, River Wealth Advisors is a leading independent wealth management and financial advisory firm, serving clients across the country from locations in Harrisburg and the Lehigh Valley. The firm’s advisors and team members focus on understanding clients’ values and objectives to build plans and portfolios that are aligned with clients’ goals, while keeping an eye on long-term financial success. Now, their client-centric, concierge approach is making a new home in Lancaster.

Headquartered at 101NQ in the heart of Lancaster City, the Lancaster office is led by Senior Vice President Mitchell Fenimore. The decision to open the office came from the firm's growing number of Lancaster-based clients, as well as an interest to develop a niche offering focused on business owners.

“While we have been working with clients in Lancaster for years, we decided it was time to become part of this vibrant community and are looking forward to bringing the best our firm has to offer through our new local presence with Mitch at the helm,” Ed shared.

“Being local and independent distinguishes River Wealth in how we deliver investment, financial, and business planning advice,” Mitch explained. “This move is an opportunity to grow and better serve local clients by being on the ground where they are. We really believe in this city.”

The new office space gives clients a comfortable and intentionally designed space to meet in-person, and their outdoor terrace overlooking Ewell Plaza will be used to host clients and larger events as well.

Capital’s team serves 21 counties across Central Pennsylvania and the Lehigh Valley, including more than 30,000 residents and 1,500 businesses in Lancaster County alone.

“Around sixty percent of people receive healthcare coverage through their employer nationally. By giving Lancaster employers the option to work with a community health plan, they have the opportunity to not only impact their business but also the lives of their employees and their families. I really believe these small businesses we serve are the backbone of Lancaster, and healthcare coverage is too important to just be broad and generic. Capital’s relationships with the providers and healthcare systems here make all the difference in the experience we give our members.”

“A local health plan means we really know the lifestyle and the needs of the people we serve. We also know the networks, the providers, the local offerings, so we can simplify and personalize the healthcare coverage experience. I’ve lived in Lancaster for more than five years, and this place is special. I really believe my work benefits from my life being here in Lancaster—because the same businesses I serve are the incredible independent restaurants, shops, and galleries where my family spends our time and our dollars.”

Fresh Face: My Own Yoga

WHEN MICHELLE DORTIGNAC moved to New York in 1991 to pursue a career in movement arts, she began practicing yoga like many other dancers were doing at the time. Fast forward three decades, she is a passionate yogi who is bringing years of teaching experience to her new practice— offering small group and private classes in Chestnut Hill.

Michelle and her husband relocated to the community after falling in love with the city on a trip back in 2022. Once they settled into their new home, Michelle was excited to transform their second-floor space into her in-home studio.

“When students take a class, they are invited into a cozy and comfortable space so they can feel at home right away to explore their practice,” she said.

Since Michelle became certified to teach in 1998, she has always been drawn to teaching in smaller settings, where she can offer students more direct, thoughtful support.

“When you have a group class, there is going to be a mix of all levels there in terms of what people can do, and as a teacher, you have to teach to the middle,” she explained. “But some people may need more time to get into things while others get into a pose quickly and sustain it—and maybe they need a little more to do.”

“What I’m doing here in Lancaster allows me to give a lot of personal attention,” she added. “I can really adapt a class based on abilities, limitations, and goals each time.”

My Own Yoga offers two types of classes, Traditional and Hammock-Assisted, for one, two, or three people at a time. Rooted in her past work in aerial dance, Michelle's hammock classes offer a calming, playful practice that blends traditional poses with light suspension—easing joint pressure, deepening stretches, and building balance.

These classes are great for people new to yoga, as they ease into their practice, as well as allow seasoned yogis to try more challenging poses by using the hammock. Her traditional yoga is a steady, grounded practice that is calm, supportive, and designed to meet you where you are.

“My vision here in Lancaster is that beginners will feel safe and experienced students will be invited to go deeper,” Michelle said.

Book 30-minute or 60-minute spots online, or reach out to Michelle about class series and private sessions.

Two schools. United in vision.

BUILT ON YEARS OF A SHARED VISION that students learn best by doing, The Stone Independent School and Solvit Academy are merging to provide a unique educational opportunity for students from kindergarten through 12th grade, starting July 2026.

Founded in 2017, Stone offers problem-based, interdisciplinary education for 7th to 12th grade while Solvit Academy has specialized in mixed-age, experiential classrooms for elementary-aged students since 2020.

Now, as the only K-12 problem-based school in Pennsylvania, the new Stone Independent School is able to bring an education that fosters intellectual agility in a student-centered, innovative environment to students of all grade levels and ages—empowering them to thrive across disciplines, industries, and global contexts.

ENROLLING NOW for fall 2026 classes

“Lancaster has been a laboratory for educational innovation for nearly three centuries,” said Mike Simpson, Head of School at The Stone Independent School. “This merger marks a remarkable new chapter in that story. By uniting these two schools with such strong and complementary philosophies, we’re creating a unique K–12 environment where students can pursue their passions, develop their voices, and prepare to make an impact in the world.”

With this new model, students will learn from their earliest years to ask openended questions, pursue evidence across disciplines, and use their discoveries to create meaningful work for authentic audiences beyond the classroom.

“Uniting our communities ensures we preserve what makes each school special

while expanding opportunities for every learner,” Melissa Groff, Owner and Head of School at Solvit Academy, shared.

“I am thrilled to continue this work as a member of The Stone Independent School’s Board of Trustees and to help build a truly 21st century model of education.”

As they work towards designing a state-of-the-art campus in Lancaster, both locations will remain open with Lower School (K-6) operating on North Prince Street and Middle and Upper Schools (7-12) at the New Holland Avenue campus.

They invite families to schedule a tour and learn more about the application process by visiting stoneindependent.org.

New chapter, new location

FOLLOWING THE CELEBRATION of United Way of Lancaster County’s centennial year in 2025, they are stepping into the next chapter—and a new location at 2121 Oregon Pike! This move reflects their continued commitment to grow alongside the community they serve. By right-sizing their space and increasing visibility and accessibility, they are better positioned to connect neighbors to critical resources and collaborate with partners to meet evolving community needs.

As the organization’s next chapter takes shape, United Way of Lancaster County will be rolling out new branding and launching a new strategic plan to measure progress, strengthen local organizations, and empower individuals and families across Lancaster. Fresh Face: My Colors Pop

AT MY COLORS POP, Kate Stoltzfus is on a mission to help people feel more confident while simplifying their lives through color analysis. As a Certified Image Consultant, she offers private sessions and group color parties from her warm and, of course, colorful home studio along with mini session pop-ups throughout the Lancaster community.

Kate’s career in color started when her family moved from Pittsburg to Lancaster in 2021, as she began looking for something new to do after recovering from a period of health issues and becoming a first-time mom.

“I’ve been a fashion and art lover all my life—even in preschool, I was always creating something or in the dress-up area,” she shared. “When I started seeing these videos online of color analysis, it combined my love for both things, and I knew I just had to do it.”

Kate’s fun and personalized sessions use color theory to help clients find their perfect shades to complement their features from 12 distinct color seasons. She also offers advice on hair color, jewelry, and makeup based on your palette to round out your style.

“Although the experience is a lot of fun, color analysis is also really practical,” Kate explained. “Knowing the colors that really

make you shine allows you to pick out clothing and makeup easier and helps you avoid making purchases that don’t make you feel your best when you wear them.”

Her color parties are designed to make the experience even more unique, with complimentary snacks and an extended session for groups of 2 to 4 people. These are perfect, she explains, for friend outings, birthday parties, or team building.

“A session or a party is also a great gift, especially for bridesto-be before they begin planning their wedding or shopping for their dress,” Kate added.

For clients who want to go a step further, you can also add on a closet edit, where Kate can help organize and downsize your wardrobe based on your personalized palette.

“Overall, this is just an all-around positive experience, along with adding value and efficiency for your life afterwards,” she said. “My goal is always that people walk away feeling uplifted and empowered to be a more radiant you.”

Book a private session or gather a group for a color party with Kate today.

Empowering women to step into confidence, health, and authenticity through movement. I also love staying curious and creative—recently that’s looked like learning horseback riding and DJing purely for the joy of growth and self-expression.

HOW DO YOU INVEST IN YOUR OWN WELLNESS?

Consistent movement—weightlifting, pole dance, and yoga—are non-negotiables for me. As a neurodivergent woman, prioritizing my mental health through therapy and psychiatric support is equally essential.

WHAT IS YOUR PASSION?

We’re really passionate about art, music, and fashion. The store gives us the opportunity to blend our passions and create a safe space for people with similar interests.

HOW DO YOU INVEST IN YOUR OWN WELLNESS?

For us, investing in our wellness looks like taking the opportunity to rest and enjoy our downtime. We’re constantly moving as we build the business, but we try to slow down when we can to connect with each other and connect with the world around us.

WHAT FULFILLS YOU AS AN ENTREPRENEUR?

Lancaster is such a dope city with a rich music and art scene. We love the idea of being a place for people of all types to connect. Community is everything to us, so we love the concept of being a hub for ideas and creativity.

WHAT IS YOUR PASSION?

My passion lives at the intersection of movement and human connection. Whether I’m coaching, running a small business, or leading a community workout, I care most about creating spaces where people feel strong, confident, and deeply supported.

WHAT FULFILLS YOU AS AN ENTREPRENEUR?

As a Lancaster native, owning a business here is deeply personal. As a woman and mother, it’s even more meaningful. I get to pour into the community that shaped me while building a business rooted in the values I want my children to see—honoring the human experience, leading with integrity, holding ourselves accountable, and creating an inclusive space where everyone belongs.

Celebrating 50 years

HINKLE INSURANCE was founded in 1976 by Tom Hinkle in his family home in Lancaster— with a vision to better serve clients by offering comprehensive insurance options through a trusted independent insurance agency. For over a decade, Tom ran the business from his basement office with client meetings happening around the dining room table. By the late 1980s, Hinkle Insurance found a space to expand, opening its first office space and expanding their team.

When Tom retired, his daughter Karyn Miller and Luke Mosch bought the family business. Later, Karyn’s son Zachary and daughter Molly came on board as the third generation to invest in the business—reinforcing the Hinkle family’s commitment to the Lancaster community.

As they mark their 50-year anniversary in 2026, the entire team is proud of the legacy that started around the dining table all those years ago.
