Cristóbal Balenciaga, born in 1895 in Getaria, Spain, is widely celebrated as one of the true masters of Haute Couture. His journey began at a young age, sewing and designing for influential women in Spain, which paved the way for his first boutique in San Sebastián in 1917. There, he dressed the Spanish aristocracy, quickly earning a reputation as one of the most respected and sought-after couturiers of his time.
Written by Alejandra ST
In 1937, Balenciaga moved his maison to Paris, where he achieved international acclaim and became a defining figure in women’s fashion. His revolutionary silhouettes— the sack dress, balloon skirts, cocoon coats, and the tonneau line— transformed the female form, merging architectural innovation with timeless elegance. Balenciaga’s technical precision and visionary designs drew the admiration of Christian Dior and Coco Chanel, cementing his legacy as a master of form and proportion.
Balenciaga retired in 1968 and passed away in 1972, leaving one clear wish: that his house would not continue without him. Yet in 1986, the Kering Group acquired the Balenciaga archives, ushering in a new era for the legendary maison. Under designers such as Nicolas Ghesquière and Alexander Wang, Balenciaga returned to the international fashion stage in the 1990s and 2000s, reclaiming its place among the world’s leading couture houses. Perhaps the most polarizing chapter came under Demna Gvasalia, who introduced a streetwear-driven aesthetic that boldly diverged from Cristóbal’s original vision.
His collections and campaigns sparked widespread debate, yet his decade-long tenure undeniably reshaped the brand’s identity for a new generation.
Now, Balenciaga turns a new page under the creative direction of Pierpaolo Piccioli, formerly of Valentino. Renowned for his mastery in Haute Couture and celebrated for a romantic, feminine, and nuanced approach, Piccioli brings the promise of a renewed elegance—one that honors the sophistication and artistry at the heart of Balenciaga.
As the maison embarks on this next chapter, the fashion world watches with anticipation, eager to witness how history, innovation, and refinement will converge under Piccioli’s vision.

Maltese fashion designer Daly Habboubi Aquilina has never been content with surface beauty. His 2026 collection, Calligraphique, is shaped by a journey—geographical, artistic, and deeply personal—that began in the sun-soaked streets of Cordoba and across the plains of Andalusia. There, amid ancient arches and quiet courtyards, Daly encountered calligraphic works whose fluid lines carried movement, rhythm, and an undercurrent of centuries-old storytelling.
THAT THREAD OF INSPIRATION LED HIM FURTHER EAST TO ISTANBUL, WHERE OTTOMAN SCULPTURE AND ARCHITECTURAL ORNAMENTATION REFRAMED HIS UNDERSTANDING OF FORM. INTRICATE CURVES, CHISELLED DETAILS, AND THE INTERPLAY OF LIGHT AND GEOMETRY OPENED A NEW WAY OF SEEING—ONE THAT WOULD BECOME CENTRAL TO THE IDENTITY OF THE COLLECTION.
+ Craft as Devotion
Every piece in Calligraphique is handmade, the result of a meticulous process in which embroidery transcends adornment to become something sculptural, almost architectural. Daly’s practice is a long ritual of research: reading, sketching, unpicking, reworking. Months are spent refining a single garment until it exudes a quiet harmony—proof that patience is its own artistic discipline.
+ A Tapestry of Places and Memory
Echoes of Hamra’s rooftops, Istanbul’s museums and winding streets, and the artistic heritage he encountered along the way are subtly woven into the collection. Each silhouette becomes a fragment of his travels—a dialogue between past and present, tradition and reinvention.
+ Beyond Malta, Toward the World
Looking ahead, Daly hopes to present Calligraphique in Madrid, Miami, Paris, and Monte Carlo, sharing not just clothing but the narrative and spirit behind it. For him, it is more than a showcase—it is a statement of what a Maltese designer can bring to the international couture landscape: authenticity, craftsmanship, and a deeply personal connection to history.
“In Calligraphique, Daly Habboubi Aquilina doesn’t simply design fashion; he sculpts memory, culture, and calligraphy into wearable art—an unfolding script that invites the world to read.”
“Authenticity craftsmanship, and a deeply personal connection to history”

In an industry where opulence once meant excess, Stella McCartney has built a fashion empire on a radically different belief: true luxury is conscious, innovative, and deeply responsible. Since the launch of her eponymous label in 2001, the British designer has reshaped the global conversation around sustainability, proving that ethics and high design not only coexist—but thrive together.
The Woman Rewriting the Codes of Modern Luxury
- A Legacy Rooted in Purpose
Born in London to Paul McCartney and photographer/animal-rights activist Linda McCartney, Stella grew up immersed in creativity, compassion, and a vegan lifestyle. These early values—respect for animals, a love of nature, and a fierce sense of independence—became the foundation of her aesthetic and ethos.
She designed her first pieces at 13, later refining her craft under Christian Lacroix and on London’s iconic Savile Row. Her studies at Central Saint Martins propelled her into the spotlight, with supermodels Naomi Campbell, Yasmin Le Bon, and Kate Moss walking in her 1995 graduate show.
By the late ’90s, Stella stepped into the role of creative director at Chloé, where she cemented her own identity in fashion, far from the shadow of her famous lineage.
- 2001: A Disruption in the Definition of Luxury
Her 2001 label debut was nothing short of revolutionary. From day one, McCartney challenged the industry’s most entrenched norms, declaring a fur-free and leather-free luxury house—an unprecedented move at the time.
Her vision was not rooted in compromise but in innovation. If traditional luxury relied on materials that harmed animals or the planet, she would reinvent those materials entirely.
- Designing the Future: Fashion Meets Science
McCartney has spent years collaborating with laboratories, scientists, and material innovators around the world to create next-generation textiles that embody both environmental responsibility and luxury craftsmanship.
+Mirum
A groundbreaking, plastic-free material crafted from virgin natural inputs and upcycled agricultural by-products. With no fossil fuels or water-intensive processes, Mirum offers a high-end alternative to animal leather.
+ BioSequins
Developed with Radiant Matter, these sequins are entirely biodegradable, non-toxic, and plant-derived—glimmering proof that glamour doesn’t have to cost the planet.
+ Mylo
A mycelium-based vegan leather created by Bolt Threads. With its supple texture and reduced environmental footprint, Mylo represents a new chapter in responsible luxury.
Redefining Luxury for the 21st Century
For Stella, sustainability is not a trend—it is the core of her creative philosophy. Her collections demonstrate that environmental innovation can enhance, not diminish, fashion’s artistry, beauty, and desirability.
She has inspired a generation of designers to question the old codes of luxury and to imagine an industry where responsibility is a badge of honor, not a limitation.
- A New Vision for the Industry
Stella McCartney’s legacy is more than her materials or designs—it is a cultural reset. She invites the entire fashion world to reconsider what luxury means today: not indulgence, but intention; not excess, but excellence grounded in conscience. Her work stands as a manifesto for the future of fashion—one where creativity and sustainability are inseparable, and where luxury evolves with purpose.

A Brand Built on Confidence and Connection
NYNY Fashion isn’t just about clothing; it’s about empowerment. The brand prides itself on helping women look and feel their very best, bringing runway-inspired elegance to everyday wardrobes. Their approach is simple yet refreshing: fashion should be accessible, exciting, and— above all—true to the woman wearing it. What truly separates NYNY Fashion from the endless sea of boutiques? You. The company insists that its customers are not just shoppers—they’re the inspiration behind every new collection. “Our styles reflect you,” the brand says, and they mean it. Each new piece is designed with real women in mind, celebrating individuality, confidence, and the joy of turning heads in an outfit that feels uniquely yours.

They invite shoppers to connect not only in-store but also on social media, where new styles, behind-the-scenes peeks, and trend inspirations flow daily.
More Than a Store—A Style Family
Perhaps that’s the magic behind NYNY Fashion: it doesn’t see itself as a business built on transactions, but a family built on relationships. Their growth, they say, is because of the customers who continue to walk through their doors, follow along online, and express their individuality through the pieces they choose.
In a world where fashion often feels fast and impersonal, NYNY Fashion brings heart back into style—making every woman feel seen, celebrated, and stunning.
Meron’s store is more than a boutique; it is an experience. A Heart for Love
— she leads with endurance, dedication, and discipline. Her commitment to the community inspires everyone around her. Above all, the way she carries herself, paired with her unique sense of fashion, motivates many and leaves a lasting impression. For Meron Seyoum, the heart of her journey has always started with faith. She often reflects on how God has carried her through challenges, opened unexpected doors, and allowed her to keep serving her community for more than 25 years. His guidance fuels her purpose, keeps hersteady, and gives her the strength to show up every day with joy. In her eyes, every year, every client, and every opportunity has been a blessing she hopes to honor through her work.
Over the decades, Meron has become a familiar, welcoming figure in the DMV fashion scene. From boutiques in Georgetown and Washington, D.C., to National Harbor and Columbia, she has built a career shaped by dedication, warmth, and genuine love for uplifting others.
Her Ethiopian heritage continues to influence her style—bright, expressive, full of life—qualities that shine through in every space she creates. What truly keeps Meron inspired is her community. Her boutiques have brought together an incredible circle of strong, inspiring clients who carry their own confidence and power. Many have shopped with her for years, some even decades, and their loyalty still humbles her. They are professionals, diplomats, high-ranking government officials, business owners, creatives, and friends—each one a reminder of why she shows up with gratitude. Meron often finds herself moved by the encouragement she receives. The excitement her clients bring into her stores, their trust in her eye, and their belief in her vision motivate her to keep evolving. With every season, she listens, learns, and finds new ways to serve with intention. Looking ahead, Meron is filled with optimism for the future. She has new concepts brewing, fresh directions to explore, and creative ideas for elevating the experience her clients love. She is always dreaming bigger, new ventures, new opportunities, new chapters—while staying grounded in the purpose God has placed on her heart. Her story is still unfolding, guided by faith and shaped by the community that has supported her from the start. And to her beloved clients of over 25 years: stay tuned. There is so much more to come.

Creative In Every Way
Fashion, at its most powerful, speaks without noise—and Jesse Lee designs in that language. His work exists at the intersection of restraint and desire, where belts become armor and silhouettes command space.
A modern Drawing from fantasy, architectural structure and spirituality, Lee creates pieces that do more than dress the body—they shape presence. In this conversation, the designer opens up about symbolism strength, and the moment his vision was realized on the front page of Mighty Magazine Issue 78.
Photo: Jonathan Herbst
“IN THIS EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW, HE DISCUSSES THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND HIS LATEST COLLECTION, THE INFLUENCE OF NEW YORK CITY AND THE VISION THAT LED HIS CREATION TO THE FRONT PAGE”
1.- Your designs often balance strength and vulnerability. What emotions or narratives were you aiming to express through this collection?
+ This collection explores the idea of controlled power. The belt dress, Elegans Balteus, was inspired by Tetsuya Nomura’s character Lulu from Final Fantasy X—a figure defined by composure, restraint, and quiet dominance. The belts act as both structure and discipline, while the fur introduces sensuality and instinct. Together, they form a narrative where elegance is born from restraint—strength that doesn’t demand attention, but naturally commands it.
2.- The look evokes a sense of modern Drawing from fantasy ,architectural structure. How do symbolism and storytelling shape your creative process?
+ Symbolism is at the core of everything I create. I design each piece as a character, not merely a garment. The belts suggest ritual, devotion, and control—almost like contemporary armor—while the fur references something ancient and primal. My goal is to translate fantasy into reality, crafting modern myths that feel wearable, where fashion becomes a story rather than an ornament.
3.- How do you approach designing for the body as both a canvas and a statement of power?
+ For me, the body is architecture. My designs don’t conceal; they frame, guide, and assert presence. With the belt dress and leather shirts, every strap and placement is deliberate, shaping posture and intention. Power lies in precision. The garment doesn’t overpower the wearer—it synchronizes with them, transforming the body into a living, commanding statement.
4.- New York plays a strong role in this editorial. How does the city influence your vision and aesthetic as a designer?
+ New York represents discipline, ambition, and resilience. It doesn’t soften you—it sharpens you. Shooting this editorial here felt instinctive, as the designs reflect the same energy: bold, unapologetic, and grounded in reality while reaching toward something elevated. The city fuels my drive to create pieces that can stand confidently within chaos.
5.- When someone wears a Jesse Lee design, what do you want them to feel—and how do you want that presence to be perceived?
+ I want the wearer to feel anchored and empowered—fully aware of their body, their space, and their energy. These designs are meant to shift posture and presence the moment they’re worn. To the world, that presence should read as intentional, commanding, and unmistakably confident.
6.- Tell our readers about your experience seeing your creation on the front page of Mighty Magazine (Issue 78).
+ Being featured on the front page of Mighty Magazine Issue 78 was a defining moment. It felt like a full-circle affirmation of my vision—seeing a concept rooted in fantasy, symbolism, and structure translated into a global editorial platform. It reinforced my belief that independent, narrative-driven fashion continues to have a powerful place in the industry.

Against the timeless grandeur of Catania, where Baroque architecture meets the raw power of Mount Etna, Sicily Christmas Fashion unfolded as a visual and cultural statement—an ode to beauty born from fire, history, and resilience. Set during the festive season, this special shooting captured the essence of Sicily in winter: dramatic, passionate, and profoundly elegant. The city became a living stage, where lava-toned gowns flowed like molten poetry through historic piazzas, echoing the island’s eternal dialogue
Christmas Fashion.
between nature and art. Each silhouette told a story of contrast—strength and grace, tradition and innovation, stillness and movement. The fashion language was bold and cinematic. Deep blacks, fiery reds, and glowing textures mirrored Etna’s presence, transforming couture into an emotional experience rather than a mere aesthetic. The garments embraced sculptural forms and fluid volumes, celebrating craftsmanship while pushing creative boundaries. In every detail, Sicily revealed itself not only as a desti-
nation, but as a muse. This Catania Christmas Special was more than a fashion shoot—it was a tribute to Sicilian identity. During the most evocative time of year, fashion became a bridge between heritage and contemporary vision, honoring the island’s soul while projecting it onto an international stage.
With this exclusive editorial, MIGHTY Magazine continues its mission to spotlight fashion as culture, storytelling, and art.
