The story behind this shot: I’ve been holding for a long time the idea of a bright story withelements of Spanish or Gypsy characters. According to my idea, Tatyana Cole created for me bright costumes in passionate colors that help each character easily incarnate to the desired mood. Also, each of my photographs carries a story which each viewer reads in their own way.

My philosophy: I had a client come to me to design a gown for her. She told me she really didn’t know what to do with the dress and when and where she would wear it. This woman just knew how the dress made her feel when she puts it on.

As an artist/designer, I find inspiration in the brightness and intensity of different colors. Purple symbolizes royalty, spirituality, extravagance and magic! There is a very special place in myheart for the creativity of famous artists and their paintings, sculptures and architecture, with its beautiful, magnificent shapes and symmetry. I often use an oversized construction with finedetail to create unique, architectural elements for innovative looks in my gowns.

Whether you’re headed uptown, downtown, across town or in Midtown, New York City is full of photography gems. Its grid layout lends itself to plenty of leading lines and opportunity for street photography, while gentrified areas of Brooklyn shine a light on the city’s offerings beyond Manhattan. To make it easier, I’ve compiled a list of some of the best photo locations across New York.

For those of you planning a trip to New York, it’s probably seemed a monumental task trying to work out how you can fit everything in. The city is HUGE! We tend to work in areas when we travel, covering corners off at a time to maximise our visit and get the most out of our stays.a time to maximise our visit and get the most out of our stays.

BROOKLYN BRIDGE

A quintessential bucket list item for The Big Apple, Brooklyn Bridge, is one for everyone. To get the bridge to yourself, or with a few locals on their way to work, visit early morning just after sunrise to enjoy the walk without the crowds. Grab a coffee and enjoy the morning before the boardwalks are teeming with bodies. If crossing from Manhattan to Brooklyn, don’t forget to turn around to take in the few looking back across the financial

district in lower Manhattan. In a city this big, it’s not hard to see why covering off everything on your list can be difficult, especially if you only have a few days. We recommend spending at least a week in New York so you don’t feel too rushed and can take your time to enjoy it. This list certainly isn’t comprehensive, and there’s so many other places to snap a great picture and capture the essence of one of the world’s largest metropolises.

Arabic cuisine consists of several dishes all served together on the table at once. And always ends with a great dessert, coffee or tea. This tradition is believed to have started in Saudi Arabia and spread to the entire Arabic region. Arabic cuisine has left its mark on street food worldwide with its traditional signature dishes, especially shawarma, a delicious mix of chicken, meat or goat prepared with aromatic species, cut in cubes or slices, served either with pita or with rice and salad. Hummus is another Arabic signature dish that you cannot pass on at Café-hub. Hummus is a dish made by adding lemon juice, garlic, cumin, red pepper, and olive oil to blended chickpeas and tahini. It is impossible to leave out falafel! Falafel, is another traditional dish made by frying balls of chickpeas or broad beans mixed with various herbs and spices. It’s generally served with pita or lavash. Falafel can also be served with salad, vegetables, and tahini sauce. In essence, Shawarma, Falafel and hummus have well deserved their fame in the west.

And that’s exactly what chef Ramzi served us to showcase Hud-Cafes’s best and most popular dishes.

Chef Ramzi explained that the most important part of cooking Arabic food is the combination of spices. The spices that go into cooking are essential to its unique flavor. Za’tar, baharat, kammon hoot are flavors that distinguish Arabic food.

The seven most common spices in Arabic food are: cumin, cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, garlic, black pepper, in all its variations. He continued to explain that the sour flavors, like sumac, lemon, pomegranate, and plum, are also essential to what he likes to cook.

Bahar means spice in Arabic. The most popular bahar is a mix of 7 spices that include nutmeg, cardamom, coriander, paprika, black pepper, cinnamon, cumin, and cloves. Goat, beef, chicken, fish and game, like rabbit, have a special place in North Africa where these proteins are generally cooked in stews or roast. So, if you are looking for a vibrant experience with punchy flavors, go to Hub- Cafe. Open Monday to Sunday from 10:00 am–11:00 pm. They also cater and are open to hosting community events.

Dr. LaVerne Adams exclusive for Mighty Magazine

TTo my surprise, today, a young 26-year-old man at the car service place asked me if I was single or married and at the sound of it, I burst out in laughter! Although he was serious, I could not believe that this younger man was actually hitting on me…at my age! My additional shock came from the fact that I had just got back from my routine walk without makeup or a fancy outfit. Then he was bold enough to ask me how did I know we couldn’t work out together? My response: “WISDOM”. After all, my children were older than him! This did not seem to faze him at all. He told me I looked great and that if a man his age was interested that I must be doing something right! I politely thanked him and drove off thinking that he was right! Not just about his interest in me, but the fact that I finally figured out how to do some things right.

The first thing is understanding that aging is a natural part of life, and it can be a beautiful and rewarding experience. I refer to this in my recent TEDx Talk entitled the “Age of Beauty”. In today’s culture, aging is often seen as something to be feared or avoided because we are bombarded with images of youth and beauty, and easy to feel like we are losing our value as we get older. The second thing I have learned is knowing that we should be intentional about aging with grace. Now, this is not about trying to look or act like we are younger. It is about embracing the changes that come with age and finding ways to live a fulfilling and meaningful life. If you ask me, having a life of meaning makes you very attractive because you wear fulfillment like an old, comfortable sweater, no pun intended.

Aging gracefully is about accepting ourselves for who we are and contributing to the world around us.

HERE ARE SOME TIPS THAT I FIND HELPFUL FOR AGING WITH GRACE:

- Take care of yourself. This means eating a healthy diet, getting regular exercise, and getting enough sleep. It also means taking care of your mental and emotional health.

- Stay active and engaged. Find activities you enjoy and that keep you mentally and physically stimulated. This could include volunteering, learning a new skill, or traveling.

- Connect with others. Build strong relationships with family and friends. Spend time with people who make you feel good about yourself and who support your goals. Studies show that a good social life and a great attitude add to longevity.

- Live in the present moment. Don’t dwell on the past or worry about the future. Focus on enjoying the here and now.

- Be grateful. Appreciate the good things in your life, both big and small. Gratitude can help you find joy in each day.

Aging with grace is not always easy, but it is possible. By following these tips, you can create a beautiful and fulfilling life well into your senior years. Finally, aging with grace is a journey, not a destination. It is about finding ways to live a fulfilling and meaningful life, no matter what your age. So, it’s important to embrace your age, celebrate your accomplishments, and let go of the past. Live in the present moment, be grateful, help others, stay connected, take care of your health, find meaning and purpose, and live your life to the fullest. That, my friends, will make you the most attractive person in the room! And as for that young man, I have to hand it to him. He knows a “hottie” when he sees one!

SONIA’S HAIR BEAUTY TIPS

Sonia emphasizes the importance of women’s development from the ages 7 to 17, when young girls and women want to feel confident, elegant, secure and happy. Sonia’s passion and motivation is to introduce self-care and self-love, which is imperative for a woman’s nature, as they influence their appearance and overall well-being in day-to-day living. Here are some helpful beauty tips that Sonia would like to share for all women:

1. Cancer diagnosis affects one in three women, causing emotional and physical stress, according to the CDC. Women experience loss of hair elasticity and moisture, making them feel less confident. Sonia uses special techniques to restore hair loss, install prosthetic hair, and help to maintain a healthy appearance with Customized Wig Solutions for clients with hair loss challenges. Sonia offers customized wig solutions for cancer patients, providing non-surgical, painless hair prosthesis and customizing wig sizes, styles, and fits for clients with medical conditions.

2. Women of color often have naturally dry hair, so coloring products should be made from natural seeds or flowers. Sonia uses a proprietary blend for long-lasting, damage-free hair color without causing damage to the scalp.

3. Sonia recommends three vitamins for healthy hair: Vitamin E to retain moisture and healthy shine. Vitamin D3, Vitamin C for healthy, thick, strong hair and nails.

4. Sonia’s Special Hair Food Spray is designed for women over 30 with aging skin and hair conditions. It contains natural elements like rosemary, avocado seeds, and coffee grinds, which can be used as a tonic for the hair and scalp. Boil the ingredients and spray on the scalp and hair each night before bed, or each time you wash.

5. Hair loss can result from medication, age, or lack of knowledge. Examine hair with hands and fingers, every two weeks. Consult a specialist if sudden hair loss, bald patches, or unusual scalp growths or irritations occur. Be aware of hormone changes and continue taking pregnancy vitamins six months post-birth.

6. Sonia believes the hair is the crown that God has given to you. The “cabello” should be protected and handled with natural products from the scalp to the hair shaft. Sonia believes a woman’s hair is precious, and whether short or long, the hair is her crown.

“Sonia Mambru has been my hairstylist and ‘Hair Doctor’ for about 8 years now, and I wouldn’t trust anyone else with the health of my hair. Best Greek islands to visit.

EXOTIC TRAVELS
24 AUGUST2023

The choice and variety of Greek islands is staggering. Not sure where to start? These are the isles you need to know about.

Mykonos and Santorini may be the obvious stars of the show, but the scattered isles of Greece play host to plenty of other headline acts. From the Cyclades to the Dodecanese and across to the Ionian, each island group had its standout attractions to put it on any must-visit list. Their secret is diversity; no matter what type of sunshine-filled holiday you seek, you’ll find it among the forest-backed beaches of Skiathos, the car-free calm of Hydra, the clifftop vistas of Santorini or the non-stop buzz of Mykonos.

To avoid the crowds while still taking in the caldera views, stay in the stretch between Imerovigli and Oia or stay south of Fira in the cliffside hotels near Akrotiri, Megalochori, or Mesaria – though you’ll want to rent a car to get around, as hotels along the southern rim of the caldera tend to be more isolated with little within walking distance (which is fine if you just want to spend most of your time by a pool enjoying the caldera views). The traditional, mountain village of Pyrgos is another excellent choice for a romantic atmosphere and sunsets, plus panoramic views over the whole island from its perch at one of the highest points in Santorini. Another traditional village, Megalochori, sits in the heart of Santorini’s wine region with an alluring village center to explore.

26 AUGUST2023

The volcanic island of Santorini is most loved for its dramatic landscapes and breathtaking views over the caldera, especially during sunset. To best absorb the legendary scenery, travelers should plan on staying on the northwestern side of the island in one of the four villages built on the side of the caldera’s rim: the capital Fira, relaxed Firostefani, romantic Imerovigli, and upscale Oia. They each have different pros and cons, but most visitors, especially first-timers, will prefer to stay in one of these four villages. It’s easy to walk between Fira, Firostefani, and Imerovigli but Oia is a two-hour hike (or 20 minutes by bus or taxi) north of Imerovigli so feels like a separate part of the island. The hike between these four villages is one of the highlights of a Santorini visit.

In most other island destinations, the beachfront would be the most prized and expensive real estate. But in Santorini, where the caldera is the main draw, the beaches tend to be more affordable with hotels here offering larger rooms and much more privacy than those along the caldera. Kamari, Perissa, and Perivolos are the most popular beach towns on the island, with plenty of restaurants, beach clubs, water sports centers, an open-air cinema, and even a water taxi connecting the beaches. Most of Santorini’s beaches are composed of black sand and pebbles and are situated along the eastern and southeastern coast of the island.

J Louis

I did in fact approach this show differently than many past exhibitions. From a storytelling perspective, I wanted to present a greater breadth of influences than I typically do in a single show. I wanted to play with whatever I felt inspired by at the moment, drawing from influences in modern and contemporary art, old masterworks, mythology, cinema, fashion, my past works, and of course the wonderful people I had the pleasure to collaborate with. – J Louis

Louis is best known for his oil paintings of female figures, focusing on the exquisite strength and alluring complexity of women juxtaposed with saturated color, flattened space, and texture. His technical painting skills, his eye for capturing an expression that portrays an intimate story, and his material experimentation are combined to create a dynamic harmony between emotion and design. He is fascinated with moments of human connection and that fascination exhibits itself in his work through cleverly posed subjects, use of texture, and color amid abstracted space.

The figures in his paintings are always in contemplative and often curiously surreal poses. They conceal and reveal the environment, dissecting it through perspective, gesture, and form. They act as guides through the painted space; their elongated anatomy highlights divides or unites the composition.

“My greatest hope for my work is to reveal a deeper passion and appreciation for life and to connect viewers with the kinetic energy of my art,” says artist, - J Louis.

The artist, J Louis paints exquisite, abstracted forms creating a vibrant story that cleverly directs viewers toward personal introspection. He considers himself a Dynamic Impressionist, constructing what he calls “moments of fleeting light, abstracted space and cleverly posed subjects.” The often-juxtaposed figure abstractions in J Louis’s work produce spiritually-charged, timeless visual harmony in a velvety color palette. The female figures of his debut figurative show exhibit a radiance reminiscent of the great French Impressionists and refreshingly combines abstracted spaces with the vision of a new kind of American Expressionist. Known for his rich color expression, crisply focused energy, and impeccable line suggestive of a bygone era.
