In 2009, my husband and I moved to a small, new subdivision in Jarrell called Sonterra. At the time, there were only a few streets completed, a few under construction, the Flying J, and McDonald's. If someone had told us then that in ten years Sonterra would be one of the fastest-growing subdivisions in the country, I would have laughed. I could never have imagined Jarrell would have 18 homebuilders, two elementary schools—a third to start construction soon, a police department with eight paid officers, a Dairy Queen, Tractor Supply, and a live music venue with food trailers. The explosive growth in a relatively short time is unbelievable, and also exciting. The Jarrell Chamber of Commerce has done a tremendous job connecting all the existing and new businesses in Jarrell, not only to each other, but to the community. More than 100 businesses are part of the Chamber today and they will continue to grow as Jarrell grows. It's phenomenal to see all they have accomplished in such a short amount of time! The brand new Family Health Clinic, in partnership with Bluebonnet Trails and Jarrell Independent School District, is the direct result of our growth and will be filling the gap for medical needs in our community. I had a wonderful time at the Jarrell Community Library meeting their new Director Susan Gregurek. The vision she has for the library will provide multiple new resources and additional ways for us to connect as a community as we maintain our small town feel amidst the growth. You will also want to check out the 76537 Life section to find ways you can get plugged in and make a difference right in your own backyard. Making a positive impact in our community is one of the very best things we can do!

t’s truly the golden hour for Lara Ingalsbe. She settles into her porch chair with Willie Nelson quietly playing in the background, relaxing in her favorite cowboy boots and comfortable jeans, taking in the amber spectacle at the end of the day. It’s a moment that never ceases to remind her how truly blessed she is to live in Central Texas.
IT'S IN HER DNA Her mother’s side of the family were ranchers. She loves the countryside and is a pretty darn good skeet shooter so, for Lara, Central Texas is the perfect fit. She’s a 7th-generation Texan who grew up in Austin and lived within a 50-mile radius all her life. She also met her husband Garry here. “He popped into the grocery store where I worked,” laughs Lara. “From the moment we talked, there were sparks—we hit it off right away.” This
They are proud parents to three grown children (and grand children) and her lovable basset hound, Chloe. “Having kids changed my life,” says Lara. “They became my reason.” With her background in new home developments and extensive experience, Lara offers a wealth of knowledge to her clients buying and selling homes, land, and investments.

ara Ingalsbe is looking forward to creating and crafting the Chamber of Commerce into what members need it to be. As President, she is fully focused on bringing value to Jarrell businesses and being a resource for all. "We have about 100 members and we are committed to growing that number. Based on the growth we have seen every month this year, I believe we are poised to grow exponentially." Lara is pleased and proud of the cross section of Jarrell that the Chamber represents. "Our members include the full picture of our economic growth as well as a diversity of skills and passions; engineers, school administration, small business owners, city government, and so many who care about the community, like the person who helped build our new library. We also have some who intersect between personal and professional interests, like the pastor who is also the police department chaplain. There's no area untouched in our collective experience."
WHAT'S COMING The chamber has many superlative programs scheduled in the months ahead. Their September speaker is a small business expert who has helped many small businesses, in multiple industries, utilize the power of social media to grow in their market. Lara adds, "The October program includes the City Manager and Mayor of Jarrell, who will talk about where we are as a city, where we're going, and what will that fo-
cus bring us as business owners. We hope to schedule a similar update on a quarterly basis. Like us, City management is mirroring the growth of Jarrell and may soon be meeting every other week rather than monthly." November's meeting will feature and focus on our non-profit agency panel; their work and what they offer to the citizens of Jarrell. Lara says, "During winter storm Uri, we saw a great deal of rallying among and between small businesses and citizens. That event brought to light what we need to promote in terms of the services and support Jarrell has to offer citizens, and whom residents can call for help."
BE PART OF IT As businesses struggle to adjust to a post-COVID norm, Lara encourages owners in Jarrell, and any from towns around who do business here, to consider joining the chamber and taking advantage of resources they offer. "Our website has everything you need; applications, schedules for chamber and other city meetings, and opportunities for greater visibility as a lunch sponsor. Rest assured, it is my personal goal to make sure every business in Jarrell knows and can profit from the value of what we have to offer."

• The Sonterra Municipal Utility District (MUD) is a political entity created to serve the water and wastewater requirements of a defined area near Jarrell, Texas. • The MUD has the power to levy taxes to support its operations and facilities and is generally responsible for preserving the value of properties within its boundaries. • The MUD is governed by a board of five elected Directors; these Directors work with several professional companies and specialists who provide management, billing, legal, financial, engineering, maintenance and other services to the district. • The MUD provides water and wastewater (sewer) services and infrastructure, and pool, parks, and common area maintenance and upkeep to the district. Solid waste (trash) and power services are provided by outside entities.

Getting the Band Back Together! Jarrell HS Homecoming Parade Returns
N
othing says community spirit in Texas quite like a good homecoming parade! It has been several years since Jarrell has enjoyed this traditional Fall ritual, but, hopefully, it will become a tradition once again. Thanks to the Jarrell High School Athletic Booster Club, the Jarrell Homecoming Parade will be Wednesday, October 13th at 7pm. The exact route is still to be determined, but the parade will end at the Jarrell High School Football Stadium with a community pep rally to follow. If you own a business, or are part of a local club or organization this

is a great opportunity to show your support for our high school football team with a festive float decked out in all the blue and white you can find. Everyone in Jarrell and towns around are encouraged to come out and line the parade route to cheer on all the floats and participants.

n August 2020, the Jarrell ISD Board of Trustees approved a partnership with Texas A&M College of Nursing and Bluebonnet Trails Community Services to establish a Family Health Center on the Jarrell ISD Administration campus offering health care services. This partnership brings a medical practitioner and licensed counselors together in a campus-based clinic, which increases access to quality medical and behavioral health care in the JISD community. Renovations are underway at the Family Health Center at 301 East Avenue F. With an anticipated opening September 7, 2021, the Family Health Center will offer scheduled and walk-in appointments to Jarrell ISD students and family members, Jarrell
ISD staff, and community members— regardless of insurance status. The cost of services will be charged on a sliding-fee scale based on ability to pay. Built on a commitment to expand access to health care, the Family Health Center will offer medical examinations for illnesses, infections, colds, and flu, plus immunizations and sports physicals. Specialty care including psychiatric evaluations, medication reviews, counseling, and care coordination will also be available. Mental health services addressing depression, bullying, trauma, anxiety and grief Management of chronic disease such as asthma, hypertension & diabetes
Telehealth through a licensed professional counselor also supporting the ability to reach each ISD campus, when the service may have the greatest impact Preventive medical care including immunizations and well child visits Sports physicals Employee physicals and wellness checks Episodic visits for things such as UTI, rapid strep test and flu screening TxDOT physicals for JISD staff and other local agencies Prescriptions and access to medications when beneficial to the health of the patient

News from Jarrell Community Library
W
e are pleased to introduce to you, Susan Gregurek, the new Director for the Jarrell Community Library. Susan and her husband Greg recently moved to their new home in Granger, from Spring, Texas, to be closer to their son, daughter-in-law, and new granddaughter. Susan was an elementary educator for 15 years and middle school teacher for 16 years. Throughout her career, she found herself in mentor and leadership positions, including: team leader department chair instructional specialist trainer of trainers grant and curriculum writer. Since retiring, she has continued to share her skills in education services. Curriculum trainer with Achieve 3000, a reading improvement program Social studies curriculum trainer through Region IV Education Service Center per diem sales presentations and textbook training representative for McGraw Hill Education Board of Directors for TEACH (Transforming Education and Changing History) a non-profit organization providing training and assistance for school improvement and fundraising for teacher and student scholarships.
AT THE LIBRARY As the new Jarrell Library Director, Susan’s long range goals include working with the Library Board of Directors to gain accreditation through the Texas Library Association. She will also be developing a plan for creating a library district for the Jarrell Library. Her vision is to create a unified community library where people of all ages will be able to access essential library services, enjoy planned enrichment activities and group sessions, and view the library as an exciting and innovative community centerpiece.

NEXT-LEVEL LEARNING Susan is excited to report the Jarrell City Council voted to fund the library for three years while they are in the process of becoming a library district. The City will fund the minimum required for accreditation, which is dependent upon the population of the city. "This will be a huge blessing to the library," she says. "It means all of our amazing programs will not only continue but new ones will take off as well. Some of those new programs include ESL classes for adults, Community Conversation Cafe and AA meetings take place in the library building after hours." As community support continues to grown, the library invites everyone to The Granary September 25th for a day of family fun. The Granary has graciously offered to give 10% of The Bar and BBQ proceeds to the Jarrell Community Library. There will also be a silent auction, live music throughout the day, ax throwing, and more!

od Bless Simone Biles. Whether you agree or disagree with her decision to withdraw from some of her events, Leigh is still annoyed that the IOC took away her difficulty points and caused the kerfuffle in the first place. I'm sad that the "everyone gets a trophy" culture actually reached the point that the best athletes in the world can be handicapped simply because... wait for it... they are THE. BEST. ATHLETES. IN. THE. WORLD. Honestly, Ms. Biles doesn't need another three or four golds to convince anyone she is the best there ever was. Plus, because Leigh is nothing if not snarky, if I were in Simone's shoes, I'd also have said, "Fine, I hope all the people who medal are okay with the invisible-but-implied footnote that says, 'Because Simone dropped out.'" Philosopher and author Ayn Rand's said productive achievement is man's noblest activity. Based on that premise, I think telling people—who have literally worked their entire lifetimes to achieve a goal—that their best is too good is to say that humanity would have been better off without self-interested individuals like Muhammad Ali, Mia Hamm, Joe Montana, Tiger Woods, and Babe Didrickson; to say nothing of so many others like Denzel Washington, Wernher von Braun, or J.K. Rowling. Would you have paid $99 to pay-per-view to watch Mike Tyson fight with one hand tied behind his back? Or maybe they should have given Ali a few benadryls right before his fights so he would just float like a butterfly and not sting anyone. Tiger, you're fun to watch but you have to start at the special tee box 75 yards behind everyone else. I know it's not fair, but no one else won a tournament this year and their feelings are hurt.

Jackie Joyner, we're going to give you these flipflops for the heptathlon this year. We'll be at the finish line with a bucket of ice for the ACL you're going to tear in the process. Depending on how well you recover, we will consider giving you shoes next time. Mr. Brando, we like the choice you made to play with the cat in that scene but we think Don Corleone should maybe tell a knock-knock joke at the end so the other actors don't look like such amateurs. Mr. Musk, SpaceX is a great idea but we're going to put together a panel of 9th graders who are really good at video games. They will also co-own your company to make sure you don't make too much more money than anyone else by winning sole-source government contracts. We know you're the only company that can actually get the job done, and I know we want to make it to Mars, but not until everyone can take equal credit for it. History?... Well, President Roosevelt was literally handicapped but he still managed to nearly get us to the finish line of World War II before he died. Then again, the government took his trophy posthumously and decided no one, no matter how good, would be allowed to be President that long ever again. Sure, you can try to change my mind but it's a shame we've been telling our kids to try hard, achieve, and be sure to believe in themselves for such a long time, only to make them feel bad about succeeding too much. If it's more fair and compassionate to insist that we all achieve equally, how can the standards ever be raised to inspire us to greatness? Seriously... what if someone had told Robin Williams he wasn't allowed to be funnier than Pauly Shore?

The kind of Blizzard everyone likes! Practically a Texas city's rite of passage, Dairy Queen cut the ribbon at their grand opening event August 27. Members of the Chamber of Commerce were joined by Mayor Larry Bush, Police Chief Denney, EDC Director Mary Poché, and Commissioner Valerie Covey. This wonderful new community partner is family-owned and congratulated the first customer, Amy Flores (bottom, right), who got up very early to wait for the first ice cream cake at their soft-opening on August 12. The manager also invited students to stop by after their first days of school, and posted on social media that the restaurant is still hiring. The restaurant is located at 104 Town Center Dr. and is open every day from 10am to 11pm.
