PRAYER & BIBLE STUDY Intercessory Prayer Sundays and Wednesdays In-Person and Online We invite you to unite with us in prayer on Sundays before worship services and Wednesdays before Bible Study.
Noon Bible Study & Prayer Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m. Online Each Wednesday you're invited to grab your lunch and Bible and join us for prayer and Bible Study in the middle of the day. Congregational prayer begins at 11:30 a.m., followed by Bible Study at noon. We're studying from the book, "Reading while Black," by Esau McCaulley. Greetings, FIBC Members and Friends, Hallelujah! I believe Fall 2023 has finally arrived in the Valley of the Sun, although quite later and hotter than usual. Lord, help, for those who still do not believe in climate change! Fall is a season when change is quite noticeable in most places— cooler weather, changes in vegetation, closing out the year, etc. This fall FIBC is experiencing change with the retirement of Pastor Karen after 30 years being on our FIBC Staff and Pastor Talley being the new Executive Director of Ministries over the last month. Let’s thank God and pray for both of them in this significant transition for all of us. Fall is also harvesttime—a time when we reap the benefits of our labors of love for the Lord, His Church, one another and ourselves. Thank you for your faithfulness over the last 10 months of 2023. Without your love, support and participation, FIBC would not be where we are in this last quarter of 2023. Much obliged to our FIBC Staff, Deacons Ministry, Governance Council, ministries and their leadership, and you. God continues to shower this pastor and people with His favor in so many ways. I also offer a “shout out” to FIBCO Family Services, Inc. and the Broadway House Corporation, two of our affiliated nonprofit organizations which enable us to fulfill our Purpose and Vision from 1141 E. Jefferson Street and beyond in meeting the basic needs of persons who would be barely surviving without their vital work in our communities. Our 2023 FIBC Theme Focus for November is: LET’S SHIFT TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE LORD’S “BUT” PRIORITIZING OUR FINANCES! Did you know that this is a “Jesus-thing”? Our Lord and Savior talked and taught about the righteous handling of material possessions in more than a third of His Words recorded in the Gospels. In Luke 12:34, Jesus said, “For where you treasure is, there your heart will be also.” I will be praying for you as well as for Pastor Karen and me to incarnate this month’s focus in “PRIORITIZING OUR FINANCES”. Hitting the Highlights THIS MONTH'S ACTIVITIES Harvest Sunday 2023 Join us on Nov. 5 for Harvest Sunday as we celebrate the works God has done this year in the life of our congregation and bring our First Fruits Offering as we start laying out the plans for the new year. Harvest Sunday is a wonderful time for you and your entire family to commit to the ministry and work of FIBC and we can’t wait to see you in worship!
Interfaith Prayer Vigil for Peaceful Democracy Join FIBC leaders and others across the state for a special prayer time on Nov. 5 at 4 p.m. We are calling for a peaceful democracy one year before the 2024 General Election. This is your opportunity to unite with others in prayer and we move through the election process. This event is in partnership with the Arizona Faith Network and the Arizona Democracy Resilience Network.
PMBSCAZ Annual Session The Paradise Missionary Baptist State Convention of Arizona is preparing for its annual session and return to Phoenix. Under the direction of Pastor James L. Harris, Jr., we invite you to meet us at New Home MBC, Nov. 9-11. There will be worship services and classes for all ages, including a youth day on Saturday, hosted here at FIBC and Jakes Unlimited in Mesa.

We want to remind you of our Thanksgiving Campus Closure. We give the campus a break during Thanksgiving so the staff can enjoy their families, just like you. Our campus will be closed Thursday, Nov. 23 through Friday, Nov. 25. Regular worship times will take place on Sunday, and the campus will fully reopen on Tuesday, Nov. 28. African Immigrant and Refugee Support by providing resources and support to African immigrants and refugees. Health and Healthcare by addressing healthcare disparities and improving access to care.

I am please to report that FIBCO Family Services, Inc. is continuing to impact lives in the greater Phoenix area. A big THANK YOU to all our FIBCO volunteers. Thank you to everyone who has donated items to our prescription bottle and clothing drive. Check out our upcoming Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive and support a family in need this month. Your continued support of FIBCO Family Services, Inc. is making a difference in the Greater Phoenix area.
Akilah Stewart THIS MONTH’S HIGHLIGHTS Desert Botanical Gardens invited FIBCO Family Services staff, children, and volunteers to a day of harvesting. 91 pounds of squash was harvested that day. The Senior residents at the Aeroterra Food Distribution site went wild for the fresh squash. If you are interested in this volunteer opportunity in the future, please contact FIBCO Family Services. Thank you to everyone who donated clothing, prescription pill bottles and other needed items. Please keep the donations coming. We also want to thank our volunteers. In October the provided 360 hours of their time helping serve the community. We serviced 1,991 individuals and could not do it without their support.
October was a very busy month for FIBCO Family Services, Inc. from our outing to the Desert Botanical Gardens to healthy food demonstrations for seniors and more, the work of your non-profit continues to make a difference in the Greater Phoenix area. Check out some highlights below.

November 11 is Veterans Day, a time to honor military veterans who served in all of the U.S. Armed Forces. For one day we stand united in respect for our veterans. The holiday started as a way to reflect upon the heroism of those who died in service to our country. Today we salute our Century Club Veterans and say thank you to each of them, and all those who’ve served in defense of our freedoms.

notes fromPastor April FIBC! Happy End of the Year Season!
As I share bi-monthly with you, this will be my last note as we make our way to wrapping up 2023! I want to thank you for all of your support throughout this year and I look forward to more communication and community in 2024. I was reading in my devotion time this week about the ordinary roads that we are all called to walked on and how God met Moses in his ordinary work that led him to God’s extraordinary calling in in his life. “One day Moses was tending the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian. He led the flock far into the wilderness and came to Sinai,[b] the mountain of God. 2 There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a blazing fire from the middle of a bush. Moses stared in amazement. Though the bush was engulfed in flames, it didn’t burn up. – Exodus 3:1-2 NLT We often expect God to meet us in places of the miraculous, but most oftentimes, He is in the quiet and the ordinary of our lives. There, He demonstrates His glory and shares His plans with us and His power for us. I wanted to remind us as we make our way toward the final stretch of 2023, to look for God in the ordinary places of our lives. The mountaintop experiences bring Him just as much glory as the experiences of our ordinary lives. He is just as glorified when we work our hands diligently and when we rest in Him for all that we need. The secret is to see Him in what He is doing in the big and small of our lives and trust that the ordinary is where He lives with us and the extraordinary is where He leads us. As you take inventory of this year, what you could have done differently, how you want to be better in the coming year in your families, communities, and even in the FIBC family of faith, remember to look for God in the ordinary, He will surely meet you there and share His extraordinary plan with you and demonstrate His extraordinary power for you. Going to the ordinary jobs, packing the ordinary lunches, and being the steady in our ordinary families can lead us to the most extraordinary adventure of our lives. As we prepare to enter the season of gratitude and thanks, it’s important to help our young people understand and learn good habits of gratitude. Creating an environment of gratitude around young people is important during this season of generosity. Here’s how you can get started:
CREATE MOMENTS OF GRATITUDE IN YOUR ROUTINE Find a time in your daily routine that makes sense to add a moment of gratitude. It can be anything, big or small. This will help kids think about and be aware of the good things in their lives. MODEL THANKFULNESS YOURSELF As a parent, you are your child’s primary teacher. It is incredibly important to express thanks for what you have and always say “thank you” to other people when they do something for you and your family. Extend this to your children, thank them for what they do and who they are. SAY NO SOMETIMES When your children ask for something or ask to do something, it’s okay to say “no.” In fact, saying “yes” all the time can be a disservice to them. Instead, give your kids a way to earn what they desire. WRITE A NOTE OF THANKS Make time as a family to write thank you notes to the people who were generous to you during the holiday season. Handwriting cards gives kids an opportunity to put their gratitude into words and is such a special treat for the people who receive them.

Four Ways to Practice Spiritual Health by Josh Haight
ADMIT NEED As people, we can easily succumb to the temptation to take on the weight of the world and in an effort to carry it all, we ignore our need for help. When we choose this posture, though, we reject our humanity which comes with implicit need. When we reject our needs, we reject God's design for our life – the design He called “very good.” Finding health for our souls requires acknowledging the need to be tended to in the first place and that only our Heavenly Father can do it. ESTABLISH RHYTHM Like any habits in life, spiritual rhythms require consistency and practice. There are no rules against putting spiritual practices on your calendar. In our busy culture, if things aren’t on my calendar, they usually don’t happen, so don’t feel shame if you need to do that. Creating space for spiritual practices is vital to maintaining rhythms that will help us communicate with God, hear from Him, and consistently live the way of Jesus. PRACTICE HIS PRESENCE Our spiritual care doesn’t have to be relegated only to rhythms or spiritual habits but can be found in thinking on and delighting in the presence of God, even in the mundane areas of life. Daily commutes, household chores, meetings, email writing, and so on can be moments of delight when we consider the presence of God in it all and choose to embrace each moment. In that nearness, we find refreshment for our souls and the fullness of life Jesus invites us into. LIVE IN COMMUNITY Following Christ can be really lonely, but following after Jesus is not a life meant to be lived in isolation. The body of Christ is a gift, one of His good graces that remind us of His faithfulness and provision. In community, we see His image reflected, His goodness expressed, His compassion shared, and His love lived out. Community is a vital part of caring for our soul. We need amazing people with whom we can be honest, vulnerable, and sharpened. taken from Youth Ministry 360

Around the Table As we encourage engagement by conversation about important topics, we wanted to provide some conversation starters for you and your family. These discussions can take place around the dinner table, on the way to or from school, or while casually hanging out at a game or other gathering. As you have these conversations, the goal is to get some insight on your young person’s thoughts, help to navigate them toward a healthy though process, and always interject the message of God's love to them. the Praise Dance Ministry is looking for a few good dancers to join the ministry. You’ll have the opportunity to minister on Sundays and during special events and programs. The final Hoop Dreams Basketball Clinic of the year is happening this month. This is your opportunity to learn basketball fundamentals, brush up on your shooting skills or get some one-on-one coaching, and best of all, it’s free and open to all young people, ages 5 to 18. The next session is Sunday, November 26 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in The Hope Center Gym.

We need to get our campus ready for the Christmas season. Volunteers will help put up Christmas trees, wreaths and other decor across the campus.
