Annual Appeal

Your support transforms lives
Fettes bursaries offer transformative opportunities for young people and we strongly believe that the whole school benefits from a pupil community that is diverse and representative of our society.
Fettes is committed to broadening access by offering means-tested financial support towards the payment of school fees. Bursaries can cover 100% of fees payable, depending on the financial circumstances of applicants. Bursaries are awarded throughout the recipient’s time at Fettes, subject to satisfactory standards of academic achievement, involvement in school life, behaviour and financial need. All bursaries are independently assessed in order to fairly allocate this extraordinary opportunity.
The Fettes Foundation is constantly striving to increase philanthropic income to support our oversubscribed bursary
programme. We can and we must do more to realise the potential of our young people. This was the founding mission when Fettes College opened in 1870. Philanthropy transformed lives then and continues to do so. The Fettes Foundation is the embodiment of that generosity today, raising vital funds towards this important part of school life.
With your support we can provide more opportunities for the young, the ambitious and the creative, regardless of their circumstances.
Thank you.

If 42 people give £100 per month for a year, we could provide a full bursary place for a pupil.

“I owe a considerable amount to Fettes for the life and career experiences that I have enjoyed since leaving school. Whilst studying music at Royal Holloway on a choral scholarship, I joined a
band which signed to a major record label. After touring Europe and Japan and recording two studio albums (the first reaching no. 6 in the UK charts), I returned to university this time to study law. 15 years on and I’m now a partner at a global law firm. It was, without doubt, my five years at Fettes that provided me with the foundations to achieve all of this. I was neither the most musically gifted nor the brightest, but I was surrounded by hard-
working and talented peers, and I was always encouraged by the school to better myself and to try to fulfil my potential.
Fettes gave me the confidence to grab every opportunity and the resilience to bounce back when things didn’t quite go to plan. It is these kinds of traits - over and above natural ability - that I hope are instilled in my children when they eventually go to school.”
Ali (Ki 2000-2005)

“When I first joined Fettes, I was a shy teenager who could barely look people in the eye, but I feel that Fettes has made me a confident young man, who holds values of kindness, tolerance and hard working close.
Fettes feels like a second home and I am sure I will miss it.”
Edward (Mo 2020-2025)
If everyone who receives this appeal gives £10 per month, we could fully fund the annual costs of 12 more pupils.
This year’s appeal takes place against a backdrop of many external challenges for independent schools. External factors make choices harder and support more precious than ever. Fettes has risen to this challenge and continues to thrive but our community have an important role to play in helping us, help others.
Bursaries have been part of Fettes College from its Foundation. Fettes is committed to providing financial assistance in the form of bursaries to those with potential, who could not otherwise afford a Fettes education.
There has never been a more important time than now to provide life-changing opportunities for children at Fettes. Demand for bursaries is growing, year on year. This demand greatly outweighs the financial support we can currently offer. Philanthropy plays a vital role in allowing us to do more to help more students experience a worldclass education.
Please help us continue transforming lives by donating to this appeal.
