July Birthdays!
Pens & Pliers is our quarterly newsletter. Our goal is to keep everyone informed, engaged, and connected. Whether it's celebrating achievements, sharing news, or spotlighting our incredible team members, this newsletter will be a great source of what’s happening at Ferran Services & Contracting.
If you have any exciting updates about yourself or a coworker that you feel would be suitable for a feature in the Pens and Pliers edition, please reach out to Cassidy at cmartinez@ferran-services.com
What a quarter it has been! Q2 was packed with energy, excitement, and a whole lot of memorable moments. From Administrative Appreciation Day (AP Day) to huge company milestones such as our 30+ Year Anniversary Luncheon, we’ve had no shortage of things to cheer about.
On May 3rd 2025 our team experienced the loss of a dear colleague, a true friend, and a sister to our Virginia. Pam was a valued member of the Ferran family. She served as our HR Manager for over 30 years, and recently retired in December. She was full of spunk, and had one of the best senses of humor. She left a lasting impact on this Company and her legacy will live on.

In each newsletter we are going to feature a recipe that has been randomly selected from someone in our Ferran Family. If you would like to submit a recipe please email cmartinez@ferran-services.com
This Quarter’s Featured Recipe:
Caribbean Cornmeal Fungi by Leona Davidson Serves 4-6
2 Cups cornmeal
2 Cups cold water
1 Tbsp olive oil
½ Cup onions (finely chopped)
1 Tbsp garlic minced
1+1/3 cup Okra (thinly sliced)
4 Cups boiling water
1 Tsp salt
2+1/2 Tbsp salted butter divided
Optional: Top with parmesan cheese
Instructions:
1) Soak the cornmeal in the cold water for 5 minutes.

2) In a large pot, heat the oil, and gently sauté the onions and garlic for 1 to 2 minutes. Add the sliced Okra and sauté for another 1 minute.
3) Pour the boiling water into the pot with the onion-okra mixture, and let the vegetables boil for 10 minutes. Use a slotted spoon to remove the okra and onions, and place into a small bowl. Set them aside.
4) Pour half of the liquid from the pot into a small bowl and reserve for later use. Have extra boiling water on hand.
5) Turn the heat to low and simmer. Add the soaked cornmeal, plus the salt and 1 Tbsp of the butter. Stir constantly using a whisk to avoid lumps and keep the cornmeal mixture from scorching.
6) As the cornmeal begins to dry out, add the reserved cooking liquid in stages, stirring with a wooden spoon until the cornmeal is cooked. This process takes about 90 minutes. Stir in 15-minute intervals to ensure that it is not sticking to the bottom of the pot. If dry- add more boiling water ¼ cup at a time.
7) As the mixture begins to break away clean from the sides of the pot, add the okra and onions in, and stir to incorporate fully.
8) Continue to cook until firm, but not stiff. To check If it is done, Insert the wooden spoon into the middle, and it if stands up.. it is done.
9) Generously butter a medium bowl with the 1+1/2 tablespoons remaining butter. Pour the mixture into the bowl and swirl it around to form a mold. Invert the bowl onto a serving platter so the fungi drops out in a nicely shaped mound. Serve immediately.
How to Serve: Create an indentation In the center of the inverted fungi and heap in stewed fish, meat, poultry or vegetables, letting the rich sauce spill over the sides.

Highly recommended Andrew and Ferran for your plumbing needs. They also have an electrician I have used but can’t remember his name right now. Also, their customer service is very responsive.”
5/29/25 Lynn Vannier sent us an email saying “The two technicians did a great job and somehow managed to tolerate the heat in the overhead. I guess that's part of the job, never complained. Always respectful and answered any questions that I had as work progressed. They even put Ferran floor covers over the ones I had placed so as not to soil or drop anything on them. Fortunately, they didn't have to move one thing in the Florida room and at the end everything was put back in place and covers rolled up. Very professional and considerate.
The supervisor, Reinaldo Resto #3359 stopped near the end of the installation and made a through inspection even to the fins on the ceiling cover for any finger prints or smudges. When the wire was fished through the walls and the thermostat in place plus the remote sensor unit in place Reinaldo was very patient in explaining how it worked and left the operation folder for me to refer to, if I had any questions after they left. As always Ferran associates are respectful of property and the client, plus leave the premises without a trace of being on site.”
