Early Childhood Family Education/Pre-School/Kindergarten/1st Grade

Otter Preschool has been filled with learning and fun during these winter months! Preschoolers worked on developing sorting skills using small, medium, and large bears, explored patterns and part-towhole relationships, and balanced learning and play by making the most of our indoor play spaces during the cold winter weather.

Kindergarten students are beginning to learn about greater than and less than, and who gets chomped

Lincoln students have been so fortunate to work with staff from Otter Cove for enrichment activities as part of their Otter Cove On the Go programming.

In ECFE, we’ve been having fun with story time, discovering the joy of reading We’re also exploring science through hands-on activities!

Grades 4th-5th

Stephanie Cloud recently attended the leadership conference for Minnesota MAAP Stars. She is a statewide leader, representing both the Fergus Falls ALC as well as other west central area learning schools. Stephanie is in the front row, second from the right. She is standing next to the Alternate Learning Specialist from Minnesota Department of Education, Christy Irrgang.

While most of our activities are just over the mid-point in their seasons, the post-season is approaching quickly:

iQAcademy

iQ Academy wrapped up the first semester on Thursday, January 22, marking the halfway point of the academic year. We would like to thank our students and families for choosing iQ Academy and for their continued partnership and support. In the coming weeks, we look forward to updates from Stride/K12 to the elementary dashboard, which will make the student login experience more user-friendly. Enrollment at iQ Academy remains steady, with a current total of 746 students.

what iQ families are

"You sincerely have some of the best teachers I've ever met, and I've had children in school since 2004! So kind and knowledgeable!"

“I love that my son has been able to experience wins in his learning and accomplishments in this program while also having the flexibility to learn from anywhere!”

Results from our learning coaches/parents from last year’s survey "My student learned accountability and responsibility."

The district has been asked about resources to answer questions about immigration.

You may find the following resources helpful:

1. Direct Legal Aid & Advocacy

Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota (ILCM): The primary nonprofit providing free legal representation to low-income immigrants and refugees in MN. They have an intake line (1-800-2231368) and excellent "Know Your Rights" fact sheets in multiple languages.

ACLU of Minnesota: Offers comprehensive guides on rights when interacting with ICE, specifically for K-12 students and their families.

The Advocates for Human Rights: Provides free legal help for asylum seekers and victims of trafficking in the Twin Cities and beyond.

2. Family Preparedness & "Red Cards"

ILRC "Red Cards": They explain the right to remain silent and the right to refuse a search without a judicial warrant.

Delegation of Parental Authority (DOPA) Form: A critical tool for immigrant families. This MNspecific legal document allows parents to name a trusted person to care for their children temporarily if the parents are detained.

Family Preparedness Plan (ILRC): A step-by-step guide for families to organize important documents and emergency contacts.

3. Community Support Networks

MIRAC (Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee): A grassroots organization that tracks local ICE activity and provides deportation defense support

CLUES (Comunidades Latinas Unidas en Servicio): Offers holistic support including mental health services, financial empowerment, and education for Latino families in MN

Minnesota Dream Act (OHE): The official state portal where undocumented students can apply for instate tuition and state financial aid

If you or someone you know is looking for resources regarding immigration rights or family safety planning, the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota (1-800-223-1368) and ACLU-MN offer free, confidential guidance. You can also find 'Family Preparedness Plans' at LawHelpMN.org to help ensure your children are cared for in any emergency. "
