MARCH 2026 33 YEARS SUPPORTING THE COMMUNITY SINCE 1993

This month Cabo Roig will once again host one of the most impressive St Patrick’s Day celebrations outside Ireland. Although St Patrick’s Day officially falls on 17 March, the main festivities in Cabo Roig are traditionally held on the Sunday closest to the date - in 2026, this will be Sunday, 15 March. The highlight of the weekend is the much-anticipated parade, which usually begins mid-afternoon along the main strip, filling the streets with colour and excitement.
What began in 2011 as a small community gathering has grown into what is widely regarded as the largest St Patrick’s Day parade on mainland Europe. Each year, tens of thousands of spectators line the route, creating a vibrant sea of green. Floats decorated with Irish symbols, marching bands, pipe players, dancers and entertainers bring energy and spectacle to the event, making it a fantastic experience for families and visitors of all ages.
The celebrations extend far beyond the parade itself. Throughout the weekend, Cabo Roig’s bars and restaurants embrace the occasion with themed décor, special food menus and live entertainment. Visitors can enjoy traditional Irish dishes, flowing pints of Guinness, and lively music sessions.

Blending Irish heritage with the warm Mediterranean setting, St Patrick’s Day in Cabo Roig offers a unique mix of culture, community spirit and holiday atmosphere, bringing together locals, expats and tourists for a memorable and joyful celebration.

Since Brexit, many aspects of life have changed for UK nationals already living in Spain or considering a move. One of the areas most affected is healthcare. Access to the Spanish public system is not automatic and is not an entitlement for everyone, which means private healthcare is no longer simply an optional extra. For many expats, it has become a necessity.
Healthcare and Visa Requirements Go Hand in Hand
For UK nationals applying for residency in Spain, whether through a Non Lucrative Visa, Digital Nomad Visa, TIE or Residencia, proof of comprehensive private health insurance is a compulsory requirement. If you are not eligible for the Spanish national health system through employment, a registered S1 form or permanent residency, you must arrange an approved private policy.
This is where ASSSA Health Insurance plays a key role.
Accepted for visa applications, ASSSA provides the correct legal certification and helps ensure that you meet Spanish immigration regulations without unnecessary complications.
ASSSA offers extensive cover created with expats in mind. Benefits include access to private hospitals and clinics, reduced waiting times for consultations, diagnostic tests and treatments, and a wide choice of specialists. Many doctors within the network speak English, removing the stress of language barriers and the need for an interpreter.
When your policy is used correctly, you can also avoid unexpected medical bills, which offers valuable reassurance when navigating healthcare in a different country.
A common mistake is choosing a policy based purely on price. Lower cost options can include limited cover, co payments or exclusions that may not satisfy visa conditions. ASSSA policies come without co payments and include a contractual guarantee that your cover cannot be cancelled due to age, illness or high usage.
In addition, your joining age is fixed, so premiums do not automatically increase simply because you grow older.
Although Spain’s National Health Service is highly regarded, it is currently under pressure. Waiting lists for routine appointments and diagnostic tests are becoming increasingly common. For those experiencing discomfort or needing swift answers, private healthcare can make a significant difference.
ASSSA clients benefit from quicker access to medical services, including emergency care and ambulance transport within the approved hospital network.
Understanding your policy and knowing how to use it is just as important as having cover in place. Jennifer Cunningham Insurance has a dedicated ASSSA administrator available to assist with authorisations, answer queries and communicate directly with the insurer on your behalf.
When it comes to health insurance, the cheapest option is not always the best. The right cover, backed by reliable support, is an investment in your wellbeing and your future in Spain.

I have recently recovered from a bad case of a cold that seemed to last forever. Just when I thought I was over the worst, it would come back stronger than ever. I know a lot of people have been suffering the same bug and my sympathies go out to you, hopefully this time, once it's gone, it's gone forever.
We have had some severe weather warnings recently and the horrendous winds have caused big disruptions and chaos along the coast. Let's hope we have seen an end to this and welcome the springtime with open arms.
March seems like it is going to be a busy month for many bars and restaurants with a Tapas Run being held at the top of Quesada on Saturday 14th March, the same day as the six nations rugby final, followed by Mother's Day on Sunday 15th March which also coincides with the Cabo Roig parade to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.
We then have San José (Father's Day) on Thursday 19th March which is a fiesta day so most shops will be closed, then the celebrations leading up to Easter commence with many local towns and villages having processions during this period.

With over 18 years as cattery owners in the UK and now 3 years in Spain, after testing numerous different cat litters this is the best cat litter we have ever come across and because it has so many outstanding features we decided to use it in our cattery, The Cats Whiskers Cat Hotel in Dolores.
It is so light with a large 21L bag weighing only 6kg, which makes handling such a pleasure and a dream to work with, so no more heavy lifting. This white paper clumping cat litter contains no dust when pouring, is guaranteed not to stick to the tray when wet and provides excellent odour control. It is 100% biodegradable and is very economical in use mainly because urine is isolated and does not contaminate the surrounding area, so less litter is being used. Our guests also really appreciate how soft the litter is on their paws. Before purchasing we welcome the opportunity to demonstrate this amazing cat litter and once used, like ourselves, you will never want to use anything else… try it and be amazed.
The Cats Whiskers Cat Hotel in Dolores was opened in 2023 and is the end result of over 18 years experience in the UK as owners and advisor to our local licensing department of environment health. Our unique designed cat hotel is rather special in every respect along with the service we provide, and has been appreciated by our 368 clients to date, including 2 vets.
Since we opened in August 2023 there have been several cattery closures following spot checks by the police and Guardia Civil for Zoological Registrations and those not registered were closed down with immediate effect, which regrettably left owners distraught with shattered plans as well as being out of pocket.
Our cat hotel is Zoological Registered and our registration is prominently displayed in reception, confirming that our cattery is totally legal. This means we will not be closed down either prior or during your breaks away, so you can be assured your bookings are secure.
The video of our fabulous cattery can be viewed by clicking on our adverts in the Talk Quesada and Costa Banca News forums as well as on our website www.thecatswhiskers-dolores.com.
We are open Monday to Saturday from 9am until 2pm and welcome the opportunity to escort you round, showing you how different our cattery and the service we provide is at The Cats Whiskers. Please call 629 463 103 for more information.

Here are two Sudoku puzzles of different skill levels for you to try. It is not a math game at all - it is a pure logic game.
Fill in the grid so that every row, every column and every 3 x 3 grid contains the digits 1 through to 9 with no repeats, which means that no number is repeated in any row, column or box.

In March 2026 in Alicante, Spain, the DroneArt Show: Music That Lights Up the Night will transform the night sky into a breathtaking piece of aerial art. Taking place at the Estadio Municipal d’Atletismo on March 13 and 14, the event brings together cutting-edge drone technology, live classical music, and visual spectacle in an unforgettable open-air performance.
The show uses more than 1,000 illuminated drones that rise into the dark sky to create dynamic, synchronised light formations - stars, flowers, abstract patterns, and shifting images that dance in harmony with the music below. Meanwhile, a live string quartet performs classical pieces under the glow of candles, enhancing the sensory experience and blending tradition with innovation. Each performance lasts around 65 minutes and begins at 9pm, with doors opening two hours beforehand so visitors can enjoy food, drinks, and the festive atmosphere. The event is appropriate for all audiences and promises a magical night where art, technology, and music converge to paint the Alicante sky with light and sound.
Tickets are available online, by searching for DroneArt Show Alicante.

Feel rewarded. Stay protected: Generali’s €30 cashback campaign now running
Living in another country already involves enough decisions. Insurance should not be one of the stressful ones. Generali Expatriates specialises in protecting foreign homeowners, drivers and families across Spain, helping them find cover that works in their language and fits the way they live.
Generali addresses that need through Generali Expatriates, its specialist service for international clients in Spain, combining the strength of a leading insurer with local agents who speak their clients’ language. Now it adds a direct incentive to act.
Until 31 March 2026, customers taking out a new car or home insurance policy can receive a €30 cashback reward per policy. It is a limited-time campaign designed to reward customers for choosing Generali. Insure your home. Insure your vehicle. Each eligible policy earns its own cashback.
A practical bonus, not a gimmick The idea behind the campaign is simple. Reliable insurance is essential. The cashback adds a small but welcome bonus for a decision many people were planning to make anyway.
The promotion follows standard campaign conditions, but the principle is clear. Choose new qualifying cover and receive a reward in return. It is less about flashy marketing and more about recognising customer loyalty.
Built around international life in Spain Across Spain, more than 200 expat brokers and agents specialise in supporting international clients. They are local professionals who speak their customers’ languages and understand the practical realities of living in Spain.
Insurance simply becomes easier when you are dealing with someone who understands cross-border life and can explain everything in familiar terms.
Cover designed for real situations Home insurance is designed to let owners insure what really matters to them, with tailored packs that adapt to their property and lifestyle. Standard cover includes emergency assistance in English, extended cover for jewellery and valuables, garden furniture and outdoor areas,

aesthetic restoration after damage and public liability, with optional legal defence cover in case of illegal occupation for owners who spend long periods away from their property. Car insurance focuses on everyday reassurance. Englishspeaking roadside assistance, courtesy car as standard, enhanced theft protection and accident cover help reduce the stress of driving in an unfamiliar system. Support is designed to be clear and accessible when it is needed most.
A short window to benefit The cashback campaign runs until 31 March 2026. For those considering a move to Generali or taking out new cover, the campaign offers an extra reason to act now.
Interested customers can request a personalised quote at generaliexpatriates.es/quote and speak directly with a local broker who understands their situation. Every step is guided by a real person, keeping the process simple and reassuring. Campaign conditions and minimum premiums apply, with full details available through Generali Expatriates’ agents and website.
Reward and reassurance The message behind the campaign is simple. Feel rewarded. Stay protected.
For many international clients in Spain, insurance is not just paperwork. It is part of building a life, protecting a home, a vehicle and the people and plans that matter most. Generali’s approach is built around that idea: offering protection that adapts to each stage of life and supports whatever comes next. Because wherever life takes you next, what matters most deserves to be protected, here and now.
Offer available for a limited period. Not for renewals or replacements. Other terms and minimum premiums apply.
For full details, a quote or to find your nearest agent or broker, visit www.generaliexpatriates.es or call 91 342 25 49.

Jupiter is at its closest to earth this spring, so it is a very good time to go out and have a look. If you go out on a clear night and look high up in the south, you will see an object that is brighter than all the others. You've found Jupiter, don't mistake the star Sirius for it, that's quite low down. For constellation viewers, Orion is just to the right.
So what you might say. A bright point in the sky, who cares? Well, you should. The huge gravity of our largest planet has swept up a lot of the rocks in the solar system, and that has helped keep Earth safe. OK, now what to do. If you have some binoculars, you will be able to see a lot more. First make yourself comfortable, a chair or garden recliner is ideal, binoculars can feel heavy when you hold them for a long time. Try to position yourself so your elbows are supported, relaxing will allow you to concentrate on what you are seeing. Some binoculars have a mount for a tripod, if you can use this it will really allow you to relax.

The first thing you will have noticed are 4 little points of light around the planet (unless one is hiding behind it) these are the Galilean moons named after Galileo who was the first to see them. They are called, Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto If you look at them for a while, their relative positions will change as they orbit Jupiter, try and work out which is moving the fastest, this will be Europa the closest moon, the slowest will be Callisto, the furthest away. There are many more moons around Jupiter, but you won't see these so don't worry about them.
If it's a very clear night and your binoculars are more powerful than most, you might get a glimpse of some markings on the surface, you are seeing the clouds above the most powerful storms ever seen, Jupiter is a violent place.
The moon Europa is a fascinating place. It's covered in a thick layer of water ice, by thick I mean it's up to 30kms deep. Hiding underneath all this ice is a liquid ocean that probably has more water than all Earth's oceans combined. Many scientists are intrigued with the possibility of life existing in these oceans, personally I thinks it's very unlikely but given time we'll find out. Many people buy a small telescope and are not sure what to do with it, all the above is a great starting point, 50 to 75 times magnification will let you see some detail in the storms and you can look for a small reddish area, the great red spot, a major storm that has been going on for decades.
