Annual Fund Appeal 2012-13
What is the Annual Fund Appeal? Thanks to the wonderful generosity of the Felsted community, including Old Felstedians, parents, governors, staff and friends, the Annual Fund has raised ÂŁ85,000 since 2009. The aim is to fund smaller projects and equipment for clubs, societies and co-curricular activities that help to enrich the experience of pupils at Felsted. With the proceeds of funds raised, Felstedians have enjoyed excellent new equipment including musical instruments, sports coaching kit, mobile ICT learning suites, GSM tracking devices for CCF and Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme expeditions and a great deal more. The fund has shown that gifts of any size can genuinely help to broaden the excellent educational provision at the School.
Why do we need an Annual Fund? The rich programme of co-curricular activities, academic societies and clubs are hugely important to the personal growth of every Felstedian and help to support the all-round education provided by the School.
It is thanks to the generosity of Old Felstedians, current and past parents and friends that the School is able to offer such a diverse range of activities over and above the provision included within the school fees.
How will the money be spent? Each year the Heads, with guidance from the different departments and parents, compile a list of equipment or materials that would be beneficial to Felstedians. The Fund will run for the academic year and a full report on projects supported will be produced in the Autumn Term. If we exceed our targets, any excess funds will be pooled and directed to either Capital Funds or our Bursary Fund as indicated by you on the Gift Form. Annual Fund 2011/12 funds raised

What are we raising money for? Music, Arts and Drama Opportunities for Felstedians to develop their creative skills continue to flourish, whether it is performing on stage, playing in our excellent musical groups or through outstanding creative art and design. We would welcome your support to enhance this provision, including character dance shoes for stage, DVDs for film appreciation club, improved stage lighting and sound system for performances, marimba for the music school, and a video camera for film club.
Sports and Activities The Combined Cadet Force, Duke of Edinburgh Award and a robust sporting programme help to develop leadership, team and service skills and every pupil is encouraged to enjoy recreational interests whilst developing a healthy attitude to fitness and exercise. Our professional sports coaches strive to improve the skills and ambition of pupils through team and individual sports and new training equipment including rugby contact suits and an artificial surface for the Prep School cricket pitch will greatly assist in strengthening these goals. The Combined Cadet Forces and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme are longstanding traditions at Felsted and would greatly benefit from updated training equipment including binoculars, specialist clothing and cameras. Enhancement of play equipment will help to bring challenge through activity for children at the Pre-Preparatory School.
Science and Technology Creative technology is a superb tool for enhancing pupils’ learning and interest in the world around us and the iPads previously purchased through the Annual Fund have proven to be a great hit with pupils and teachers alike. Their versatility enables use in music, drama, ICT and many other subjects both in lessons and co-curricular activities and, as a result of their success, an additional mobile learning suite would be a great asset to the School. Felsted has a history of producing great scientists and the science department regularly run cocurricular activities to inspire an interest in the subject. A protein electrophoresis kit would help budding biologists through an extension activity.
Social and Humanitarian Felsted’s social activities help to develop life skills and promote responsibility and awareness. The textile and craft club needs sewing machines to help develop textiles skills and they will also be used to produce products as part of the Young Enterprise programme. The Felsted Model United Nations engages students from around the world in debating, discussing and attempting to solve some of the world’s greatest issues during a lively weekend at the School. With the increasing number of schools attending, additional wireless microphones would be a great asset.

How do I donate? Please complete the Gift Form on the next page and return it to the Development Office. Supporting the Annual Fund by setting up a direct debit or standing order can help spread the amount of your gift over the course of the year and provides a regular income stream to support the projects you choose. If you prefer, you can donate a single gift to the Annual Fund by cheque made payable to Felsted School. Furthermore, as the School is a registered charity, if you pay UK tax, the Gift Aid scheme will increase your gift by 25p for every £1 donated at no extra cost to you. Gift Aid may be applied to all donations, including single gifts and regular giving, regardless of amount. In addition, if you are a higher rate taxpayer, not only can we claim Gift Aid, but you can also claim tax relief from the Inland Revenue on your donation.
Please give an amount that is meaningful to you. Every gift is valuable and will make a real difference to the area you choose to support.
Donor Recognition – Lord Riche Society The Lord Riche Society, named in recognition of the original benefactor of the School, has been established to express our gratitude to all who have given generous financial gifts to further the development of the School. We value every gift and are thankful to all of our donors whose generosity has provided many of the excellent facilities enjoyed by pupils and made significant contributions towards bursaries. All who have donated during the year will be listed within our Annual Report. In recognition of those who provide larger financial gifts to the School we have established categories of membership of the Lord Riche Society.
Members All donors who give above £1,000 will automatically become Members of the Lord Riche Society and we will hold a ‘thank you’ event each year for Members.
Benefactors Donors who give in excess of £50,000 will become Benefactors of the Lord Riche Society and in addition to the benefits of Membership, will have their names included on the Benefactors’ plaque at the School. Naming rights to certain rooms and other naming opportunities at the School will also be provided for Benefactors.
Major Benefactors In addition to the benefits of Members and Benefactors, for those who have donated in excess of £250,000, an annual meal will be held by the Headmaster and Governors for Major Benefactors.
