My love for planning the “perfect” party definitely comes from mom who can create a special occasion out of any scenario using items she already has on hand. Growing up, my childhood home hosted birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, engagement parties, weddings, baby showers, baking competitions, scavenger hunts, themed adult dinner parties and anything else you are thinking about. Most of our decorations and supplies were DIY projects made from repurposed and recycled items and the cakes were always home baked. We never had the means to hire any help, and it was all handson deck for the party setup and cleanup. My mom always had a creative approach to her party planning (she is an artist, so there’s that) and everything she did had a special personal connection to the person(s) being honored.

Fast forward to today, when all of those celebrations and experiences are coupled with

my own passion for simplifying and organizing, leading me to what I believe is the best party planning approach. Here’s what I know to be true---with some planning, you can make any party meaningful and fun without draining yourself.

Are you ready to party but overwhelmed by all the steps and details involved in the planning? Whether you are thinking about an adult get together, a gameday sports watching party, or a full-blown kid’s birthday, there are a few things you can do to make it a success (and to take some of the pressure off of you!). Let’s start with the basic steps below, they may seem obvious and simple but I promise if you do these FIRST, and then follow my Amyzing Party Checklist, the rest of the details will fall into place.

• Establish a date for your party

• Determine why you’re throwing a party (the

answer to this can help you plan for the decorations and theme)

• Set a budget (use the guest list number to help you determine costs)

• Find a location (consider hosting it in your home, here’s a handy checklist for that as well)

Next, let’s break it down with some more detailed tasks and back them up using your party date. Organization is key when it comes to planning a party and the best way to get organized in planning a party with a detailed checklist. This can be used for ANY type of party and will help you from getting overwhelmed or forgetting something. You can email me amy@ amyzingspaces.com for your pdf version. Remember to ask for help and delegate as many of the tasks as possible. People love to help get ready for a party so let them!

One of the best things I learned from my mom

is that you can always make something out of nothing and the most important thing about a party is how you made people feel and I have learned that with some organized planning, you don’t have to be overwhelmed in the process. Remember to have fun yourself---it’s a party! Have fun celebrating, Amy

Brown Butter Pumpkin Spice Cookies

Prep time: 30 minutes

Cook time: 70 minutes

Yield: 48-50 cookies

1 cup unsalted butter

5 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice

2 cups brown sugar

1 can (15 oz.) Green Giant 100% Pure Pumpkin

BROWN BUTTER PUMPKIN SPICE COOKIES

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

2 large eggs

2 egg yolks

For Rolling:

2 tablespoons cane sugar

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

In small saute pan over medium heat, melt butter. Stir regularly until butter turns deep golden brown, 8-10 minutes. Pour browned butter into heat-safe bowl or measuring cup and refrigerate until cooled, but not solid, about 15 minutes.

In large mixing bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, salt and pumpkin pie spice. Set aside.

In separate medium mixing bowl, stir browned butter and brown sugar. Whisk in pumpkin and vanilla extract followed by eggs and egg yolks. Gradually mix wet ingredients into dry until evenly mixed. Refrigerate dough 30 minutes.

Form dough into four separate logs 2-3 inches in diameter and about 7 inches long. Wrap each cookie dough log with plastic wrap. Freeze dough 30 minutes, or until ready to bake. For rolling: Preheat oven to 350 F and line

large baking sheet with parchment paper. Stir sugars and cinnamon on large plate. Unwrap desired amount of dough (thaw slightly at room temperature if dough is completely frozen) and roll each log in sugar mixture.

Slice into 1/2-inch slices. Place on baking sheet 3 inches apart.

Bake 14-15 minutes. Repeat with remaining cookie dough.

Cool cookies at room temperature on baking sheet 10 minutes before transferring to cooling rack and cooling 10 minutes.
