Wholeness and Healing
We can shape the new Queen’s Medical Center Kona campus into a place of healing that is distinctly Hawaiian.
Archaeological discoveries in the KalokoHonokohau National Historical Park and in the Cultural Preserve adjacent to the project site suggest that Honokohauiki was once an active ahupua’a. The name Honokohau, which means “the bay where waters congregate” and the archaeological remains of fish ponds discovered here suggest that vital connections
from Mauka to Makai once created a whole, self-sustaining ecosystem. This idea of wholeness begins to suggest a starting point for how the new hospital and other buildings being planned can shape the new Queen’s Medical Center Kona Campus into a place of healing that is distinctly Hawaiian.
