THE FOOD AND DRINK INDUSTRY DINNER 2026

Bringing together the UK’s largest manufacturing sector

The Food and Drink Industry Dinner | 2026

WELCOME

It is a real pleasure to welcome you to this year’s FDF Industry Dinner. Coming together in such a remarkable setting gives us a rare opportunity to pause, reflect and celebrate the industry that binds us – one that is driven, above all else, by people.

Over the past year, I’ve had the privilege of spending more time with fellow FDF members, colleagues across our supply chain, and of course the team at FDF. What continues to strike me is the sheer scale of passion, skill and determination that keeps this industry moving forward. From engineers and production teams to lorry drivers, innovators, sustainability experts and thousands more – it is the collective effort of these people that ensures safe, high quality and affordable food reaches households across the UK every single day.

We also know that this doesn’t happen without challenge. Supply chain disruptions, unpredictable markets, and the pressures of investment and productivity are part of our daily reality. And yet, time and again, our sector responds with resilience and ingenuity. That resilience fuels growth – real, bottom up growth created by businesses across the UK adding value, supporting communities and contributing to a thriving manufacturing base.

Tonight is an opportunity to recognise that contribution and to look ahead. As both President of the FDF and someone leading a food and drink business day to day, I see firsthand the ambition and capability within our sector. The UK has the potential to be the most dynamic place in the world to start and grow a food and drink manufacturing business. Realising that potential will depend on the right conditions for investment, smart and practical regulation, and a shared ambition between industry and government.

And from my vantage point running a food business – where I see teams overcoming real world challenges every day just to keep products on shelves and customers supplied – I’m reminded constantly of the grit and excellence that defines our industry. From where I stand – working alongside talented teams in my own business and seeing the drive across the companies represented here tonight – I am confident that we have everything we need to unlock that growth. Thank you for joining us, and for everything you and your teams do to strengthen this extraordinary industry. I look forward to the conversations ahead – and to raising a glass to another year of progress, partnership and pride in UK food and drink.

THE FOOD AND DRINK INDUSTRY DINNER 2026

Welcome to FDF’s 2026 Industry Dinner! This evening, in the magnificent setting of Guildhall – the City’s oldest secular building – we come together to celebrate everything that food and drink manufacturing contributes to our country and communities, and to celebrate its success around the world.

The past year has been challenging for food and drink manufacturers. Regulatory change has been a theme, alongside persistent inflation, tariffs and trade disruption, and now an energy supply shock. But the industry continues to respond with resolve, resilience and ingenuity.

Our 2026 Powering Communities report [link] sets out what food and drink manufacturing contributes in every nation and region of the UK. Overall, we contribute £42bn in GVA, and our sector represents almost a quarter of total UK manufacturing revenue.

Our members’ success rests on a number of factors, but most significantly on the quality and dedication of our people. Nearly half a million people work in food and drink manufacturing in the UK, following their passions and growing their skills, from product developers and food technologists to sustainability experts and engineers. Every day, our teams are developing healthier products; introducing new technology; establishing sustainable practices to protect the natural environment; and supporting their local communities, by helping to redistribute surplus food or volunteering for local causes.

FDF’s role is to support businesses in our sector to succeed, ensuring the UK is food secure and that our food system is competitive, innovative, sustainable and healthy. We want companies to choose the UK to start or grow their food and drink business. We want exports to thrive and imports to work.

Tonight, we’re proud to come together with partners from across the food chain, from government and regulators to our European allies, FDF’s Professional Affiliates and third sector organisations. Everyone here this evening plays a critical role in the success of our industry across the UK and we’re grateful for your inspirational partnership.

Thank you for joining us, and I’m looking forward to raising a glass with you all to the strong and vibrant future for UK food and drink.

UK FOOD & DRINK MANUFACTURING:

REGIONAL REPORT 2026

FDF’s Powering Communities report shows the impact food and drink manufacturing has on every corner of the UK.

With over £25bn of food and drink exports in 2025, the sector contributes £42bn to the economy - nearly a quarter of total manufacturing turnover - and supports nearly half a million jobs across the country.

We want to grow in productivity, efficiency, and exports, to continuously improve, innovate and modernise UK food security and resilience. Government needs to work with industry to create the conditions for food and drink manufacturing to grow to £50bn by 2035.
