So where’s the balance? Here’s a list of what to review so you can find the balance between going mad and never knowing anything. Checking/Savings accounts. At the very least, take a look at your main checking or savings account to have a “feel” for where you are. Balancing the checkbook is best, but looking online is a good habit to have just to stay current. Other common accounts. Take a quick “peek” at any other accounts that you keep. Check your emergency fund just to make sure nothing has happened. It takes less than a minute to do this online, but the peace of mind is worth it. Budget. No two months are alike. Try to budget a day or two before the new month begins so you’re ready and still have time to make adjustments if needed. Bills! Set your bills up in Bill Pay and never worry about missing a payment or paying late fees. Debt Levels. Take a few moments each month to review your debt level to ensure you don’t get in over your head. Investments. Quarterly looks at the performance of your investments can give you a better picture of how you are doing.
