Extensive, farmer-managed DST trials also confirm InVigor yield lead The leading independent measure comparing yield performance of canola hybrids has again put InVigor ® canola hybrids from Bayer CropScience on top in 2008. It’s the sixth consecutive year that the Prairie Canola Variety Trials (PCVT) results have InVigor hybrids on top – maintaining an unbroken string as the top yielder every year since the inception of the PCVTs in 2003.

Manager with Bayer CropScience in Calgary. The Prairie Canola Variety Trials (PCVT) are managed by the Canola Council of Canada. The PCVT trials are replicated weed free trials that provide information on the genetic capability of all canola types entered into the trial. Starting last year, InVigor 5020 and Pioneer ® Hi-Bred 45H21 became one of the new checks of the PCVT trials.
What’s impressive this year is that InVigor canola hybrids earned all top seven yield positions – outpacing leading competitors in all zones, including shortseason, mid-season and long-season. “The PCVT results confirm what thousands of canola growers have known for over ten years: InVigor canola hybrids yield more,” said Rod Merryweather, North American Oilseeds Business Operations

The Results are in Comparing hybrids to those new checks, the top seven in 2008 were: 1. InVigor 5440 – 110% of the new checks – the highest yielding canola hybrid in all the zones! 2. InVigor 8440 – averaging 108% of the new checks 3. InVigor 5030 – also averaging 108% of the new checks 4. A new experimental InVigor – also averaging 108% of the new checks 5. InVigor 9590 – averaging 106% of the new checks 6. InVigor 5020 – averaging 105% of the new checks 7. InVigor 1144 – a specialty canola oil hybrid, averaging 105% of the new checks. It performed better than any other specialty products in the trials. In fact, no competitor hybrids exceeded 100% of the check yield – indicating that InVigor continues to deliver 10% or more yield over any competitive products.

Demonstration Strip Trial results echo PCVT Wins “We’re pleased that the results from the Canola Council’s PCVTs are in line with the results we saw in our extensive Demonstration Strip Trials this season,” said Merryweather, pointing to the annual results from Bayer CropScience’s Demonstration Strip Trials (DSTs). “It all paints a very consistent yield picture – not only in 2008 but for the past several years – nothing outperforms InVigor.” Since 1997, Bayer CropScience has also conducted DSTs at various locations across the canola growing regions of the Prairies. What makes them meaningful is that they are farmer-managed trials also showed a clear InVigor yield advantage. In this year’s DST results, the top InVigor ® canola hybrid lead competitors Dekalb’s 71-45® and Pioneer Hi-Bred’s 45H26® by an average of 5.6 to 6.2 bu/ac. That’s an average of 51.6 bu/ac at the 36 DST locations across Western Canada while Dekalb’s 71-45 and Pioneer Hi-Bred’s 45H26 came in at 45.4 bu/ac and 46 bu/ac respectively. Regional results were more dramatic: • Alberta’s eleven locations showed
a superior yield performance by the top InVigor hybrid of 8 percent ahead of DeKalb 71-45 and Pioneer Hi-Bred 45H26. • Southern Saskatchewan’s seven locations showed the top InVigor outyielding the same competitors 8 to 15 percent. • In Northern Saskatchewan the top InVigor hybrid performed 10 to 11 percent better than competitor hybrids in seven locations. • Manitoba’s eleven locations saw the top InVigor performing 8 to 12 percent ahead of the same competitors there. Growers know Nothing Outperforms “Without a doubt, InVigor is the undisputed yield champion and we’re pleased that canola growers in Western Canada continue to have confidence in InVigor for top yield performance, a strong agronomic package and the best return on investment,” said Merryweather. Bayer is awarded 2008 CAMA “Best in Show” Bayer CropScience had an excellent showing at this year’s Canadian Agri-Marketing Association (CAMA) awards this year picking up a total of eight category winners and two merits. “We are extremely happy with our performance this year and are honored by the acknowledgment of CAMA.
