ducation and learning are a vital part of the 2012 Agri-Trade event. Thanks to the continuing generous sponsorship support of FORTIS Alberta and the professional organizing skills of the Agri-Trend Group of Companies, we are pleased to introduce an informative and comprehensive learning stage program for 2012. The learning stage will operate on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily with a variety of interesting topics and presenters. This guide, prepared by Alberta Farmer Express and the Wheel and Deal publications, will reveal daily learning stage topic details. We are pleased to have their support in this most worthwhile production which is circulated throughout Alberta and provided as a guide at the show. Please look it over carefully, to enhance your visit to the 2012 Agri-Trade Show. Conveniently located on the south side of the ENMAX Centrium concourse, comfortable tier seating makes visibility and sound capture the best available. Many presentations will feature exciting audio visual support to add an important dimension to each stage presence. Agri-Trade strives to annually present the best and newest ideas and innovations in agricultural production. With over 425 exhibitors occupying 300,000 sq. ft. of indoor space and 100,000 sq. ft. of outdoor space, the November show represents Alberta’s annual international salute to agriculture in Western Canada. In addition to many Canadian based manufacturers and suppliers, we are pleased to welcome exhibits from Holland, New Zealand, Australia and the United States to the 2012 show. We invite you to take advantage of the many aspects of Agri-Trade as your 2012 visitor experience unfolds. The FORTIS Agri-Trade — Agri-Trend learning stage is an integral part of the show and represents Agri-Trade’s continuing commitment to providing the best environment for attendees and exhibitors alike. This year, your admission to the Westerner Park complex includes multiple entry vehicle parking, adding convenience for visitors wishing to enter, leave and re-enter the show on the same day. All in all, I am very proud to be the chairman of the show that has been rated fifth in Canadian tradeshows for 2011. Welcome Message From the Premier of Alberta

n behalf of the Government of Alberta, it is my pleasure to welcome everyone to Agri-Trade 2012.

Agri-Trade is an important event that helps build relationships, share knowlege and promote agriculture in Alberta. In 2011, Alberta’s exports of primary and processed agriculture and food products increased 19 per cent to more than $8 billion. This tremendous increase was due to strong commodity prices, and also to the hard work of producers and the technology and innovation available to them. One of my government’s priorities over the next four years is to ensure that entrepreneurship continues to be a conrnerstone of Alberta’s dynamic economy. We continually strive to do things better and smarter. That pioneering attitude has fuelled Alberta’s success, especially in the agriculture sector, for decades. Innovation is pivotal to Alberta’s ongoing success and Agri-Trade gives producers more tools and information, which will help them continue to build their businesses and compete in the global marketplace. I believe we can achieve great things by working together. Special thanks to the organizers of Agri-Trade 2012 for their commitment to bringing producers together to share and learn.

For 29 years, Agri-Trade has been a celebration of innovation for the agriculture community and a tremendous opportunity for producers to enhance their operations. With more than 400 exhibitors and businesses on hand, this is one of the largest events of its kind in Canada, showcasing the latest leading-edge equipment, technology and techniques. The future of agriculture, one of the cornerstones of our provincial economy, is very bright. There is tremendous opportunity for our agricultural businesses and producers, as Alberta continues to expand access to new markets. Our province is home to some of the best and most innovative producers in the world and events like Agri-Trade help producers continue to be leaders and have the resources they need to remain successful. Join Agri-Trade to champion the industry

n addition to viewing the latest in farm equipment and various exhibits at Agri-Trade, attendees are encouraged to champion the agriculture industry and play a role in changing perceptions about agriculture through a new initiative underway. Agriculture More Than Ever is a multi-channel, multi-year industry initiative to improve perceptions of agriculture in order to assist the industry to reach its full potential and ensure its long-term viability. Image matters To attract the people, skills and investment needed to meet the growing demand for food, those of us involved in agriculture have a responsibility to promote the industry. Agriculture is Canada’s largest employer and a contributor of more than $130 billion dollars to our national economy. We can’t ignore challenges, but when we discuss agriculture, we can choose to focus on the optimism and positive side of the industry. Agriculture More Than Ever asks those involved in the industry to champion agriculture by engaging in more frequent discussion regarding what’s going well within the industry — filling in information gaps, responding to misguided perceptions and telling the success stories about the industry, online and offline. The way we portray agriculture has a direct and powerful effect on how the public views our industry. Agri-Trade Exposition “Meets the World”

n October of 1984, a brand new farm show called Agri-Trade entered the world of agriculture. Its home, a two pavilion Westerner Park venue, proved to be popular with farm producers from the area as they rushed to complete harvest and get ahead of pending snow falls. Alas, it would not be as the week of the show snow hit central Alberta with a vengeance and almost brought the first annual edition to a resounding end. Today, 2012, the show will celebrate its 29th birthday and the size of the show has literally tripled. Today Agri-Trade is recognized as the largest indoor and outdoor show of its kind in Western Canada. The community benefits from the annual show are numerous. During Agri-Trade week (normally the third week of November), Red Deer businesses (service and retail) and hospitality centres record aggressive sales and customer activity from out-of-town visitors.

Agri-Trade is proud to occupy all major buildings at Westerner Park to the tune of 270,000 sq. ft of indoor space and 100,000 sq. ft. of outdoor display space. As one farm producer recently noted… ”Agri-Trade occupies close to five acres of space all told.”

Agri-Trade has always prided itself in its ability to present the best in farm equipment and the newest and innovative ideas available to the industry. All major power (tractor/combine) manufacturers exhibit at the show annually. Their presence is an agricultural show industry benchmark for visiting farm producers and attendees.

Agri-Trade is a partnership between the Red Deer Chamber of Commerce and the Westerner Exposition Association and was founded in 1984 by present show manager Patrick Kennedy. In 2014 the management responsibilities for Agri-Trade will become the responsibility of Dianne Smirl, presently Assistant Agri-Trade Event Manager.

Recently, Agri-Trade has formed an important alliance with the U.S. Department of Commerce by receiving the all important show certification by that department of government and with Central Alberta Access Prosperity. The alliance will grow to permit Agri-Trade the opportunity to attract foreign businesses to the venue to create new and exciting opportunities for central Alberta business growth. Countries exhibiting at this year’s show include Holland, New Zealand, Australia, the United States and Canada.

Efficiency — Economy — Ergonomics and Ecological. We design and produce our machines for the most optimal working conditions for the operator, the entrepreneur, supplier and the environment. With “for growers” we refer to our target group, Agrifac customers like to grow for the future, developing and trying to grow their crops in a most economical way, to make more profit. During this presentation Steven will show you the latest developments in spraying techniques, for example the new AirFlowPlus system which gives a unknown penetration of your chemical into the crop. Next to sprayers the company is also specialized in self-propelled sugar beet harvesters, this will also be a topic of the presentation.

I n ventilation principles two distinctive different systems can be found: The American system and the European system. Why are these different systems developed and where do they originate from? Once the understanding of how different they are and what the pros and cons are, a good and weighed choice can be made. In this presentation Omnivent will explain how the design of a storage facility comes final and which factors determine what kind of system will be installed. Key in the decision making process is how the product quality can be maintained and how the efficiency of the storage can be increased. To determine this a good risk assessment needs to be done and the local situation needs to be assessed.
