Tomorrow, America celebrates 250 years. We won't.

Beneath the fireworks, the flags, and the manufactured nostalgia there’s a history too many people still refuse to confront The United States was built on the genocide of Indigenous peoples and the enslavement of millions of Africans Everything that followed was built on a story that became easier to sell than the truth itself

For generations, history has been sanitized by school curiculum that prioritize mythology over honesty. The corporate, mainstream, Epstein-billionaire class owned media has increasingly pushed bullshit narratives that protect child rapists and murderers in power instead of helping bring them to justice Americans have been taught to believe we're always the heroes, even as our government has repeatedly supported coups, regimechange operations, military interventions, and wars that have left countless civilians dead and entire regions destabilized

For nearly a century, Americans were told cannabis made people violent, insane, lazy, and dangerous. Those lies fueled arrests, destroyed families, filled prisons, justified racist enforcement, and delayed scientific research that could have improved millions of lives While patients suffered and communities were criminalized, corporations and politicians benefited from maintaining prohibition Today, many of the same institutions that pushed those narratives are racing to profit from legalization without ever accepting responsibility for the damage they helped create

That's America in a nutshell Create the problem Criminalize the people. Rewrite the history. Profit from the solution

And here we are once again watching yet another humanitarian catastrophe unfold in Gaza and Lebanon in real time, where Palestinians and others have endured extraordinary death, destruction, displacement, and suffering via a genocide say it with me, GENOCIDE

People from around the world see laws being broken, murder, destruction and corruption being normalized via a little device in our hands, all caused by the wealthiest people in the world, and whose consequences are only felt by the average citizen It’s enough to drive people crazy and into a full-on Luigi-esk uprising...hopefully.

Concentrated wealth has captured enormous influence over politics, media, and public policy Billionaires shape legislation Corporations write the rules Lobbyists run the halls of power. And SCOTUS is bought off while ordinary people are encouraged to fight one another instead of questioning who benefits from the system

Decades of brainwashing Boomers by Fox News, has left millions of Americans consuming a version of reality that serves powerful political and economic interests more than anything else Many people who grew up trusting institutions continue to do so, while countless others, regardless of age or background, have been persuaded to defend systems that steadily transfer wealth upward and diminish their own power. Divide people long enough, and they'll mistake obedience for patriotism That's why independent media matters, and it’s making a difference; just look at the Democratic Socialists being elected (let’s keep that shit going)

Cannabis has always been bigger than a plant It has exposed how fear can be manufactured, how science can be ignored, how laws can be weaponized, and how entire populations can be convinced to surrender their rights in the name of safety. If they could convince generations that a plant was the enemy despite mounting evidence to the contrary, what else have they convinced us to accept without question?

Tomorrow really isn't a celebration. For Indigenous communities, descendants of enslaved people, families displaced by war, Palestinians living through unimaginable devastation, people imprisoned over cannabis, patients denied medicine, and millions struggling beneath systems that value profit over people, this anniversary carries a much different meaning.

Real patriotism isn't pretending our country is incapable of wrongdoing It's demanding that we become better than our history The next chapter of America shouldn't be written by billionaires, corporations, or politicians protecting their own pedofile friends in power It should be written by ordinary people willing to reject propaganda, defend truth, protect one another, and build a future rooted in compassion, accountability, and freedom. That's worth celebrating The last 250 years aren't

Katie is a mom, cannabis advocate, homegrower, and lifelong metalhead who believes community is everything. After spending more than a decade in retail management specializing in merchandising and visual presentation, she naturally brings an eye for aesthetics into both her gardens and her content

Whether she's tending to her plants, out for a run, or spending time with her husband, daughter, and their three dogs, Katie approaches life with the same energy she brings to cannabis - curious, creative, and unapologetically herself.

What stood out to me almost immediately was how approachable and fun she makes homegrowing feel. Katie doesn't pretend to know everything She's learning, experimenting, succeeding, failing, and sharing all of it

her content inviting instead of intimidating, giving people the confidence to believe they can grow their own cannabis too She also represents something much bigger than cultivation

Katie is part of the continued normalization of cannabis She's someone who used cannabis to help leave pharmaceuticals behind. She's a mom who's willing to tell her story openly, helping bridge the gap between longtime cannabis enthusiasts and the millions of people who are simply curious about the plant She educates without talking down to people, builds community instead of gatekeeping, and reminds us that cannabis culture is at its best when everyone has a seat at the table That makes her a perfect fit for Fat Nugs Magazine
