February 2026

We hope this month’s Junior Irish News finds you and your family safe and well following last week's devastating winter storm. At Father Ryan, we experienced a power outage that lasted nearly a week, but we are now safely back on campus. We continue to pray for the safety of our community and for all the crews who are working tirelessly to restore power and clear fallen trees.

Clubs at Father Ryan

A rewarding high school experience extends beyond academics, athletics, and arts. Our robust club program enables students to try new things, expand their friend network, and go deep on their passions. Our larger size means more club resources and offerings. Here are just a few of our 40-plus club offerings:

Our popular coed Volleyball Club was created by students a few years ago. It offers a fun way to enjoy the game and one another.

Did You Know?

That we have 40+ student clubs?

That 88% of our students participate in one or more clubs?

That students may start their own clubs?

Every student club has at least 1 faculty advisor?

Rescheduled: Junior Irish School Spirit Night

Small but growing in numbers and mighty at heart, the Speech and Debate Team has made major progress in the way the team writes and delivers speeches, shares stories, and builds camaraderie. The team is enjoying trying new, impromptu debate categories and stepping out of the members’ comfort zones, a goal for every club experience.

On February 20-22, our two Mock Trial teams will compete in the Davidson County Mock Trial competition. Each team must prepare a prosecution and a defense, and several members will also serve as witnesses for both sides of the competition. Good luck, Father Ryan Mock trial!

Meet HannahMaria Dixie ’25, a political science and government major at Spelman College and Father Ryan legacy. In this video, she talks about how Father Ryan’s clubs and activities helped shape her as a leader and person.

Irish Athletics News

January was a busy month for our Irish athletes, beginning with our own Charlie Becker ’24 contributing to the Hoosiers’ undefeated 16-0 record and culminating in the Hoosiers' crowning as National Champions. He played with the same skill and spirit as he did for the Irish.

Well done, Irish Swim and Dive team, for finishing 4th (Girls), 5th (Combined Team), and 11th (Boys) at the Regional Championship! Emilia Trailov '27 earned 1st place in the 100-meter Freestyle. Good luck at the State Championship Meet this weekend.

Way to go, Bennie Bonadies ’26, Grace Klein ’26, Savannah Nimitz ’26, and Clark Steffen ’26, on earning National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association (NISCA) Academic All-American honors! These talented student-athletes have maintained a minimum 3.750 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) over seven semesters and have earned a varsity letter in swimming and diving.

Congratulations to Lydia Brunner ’27 for receiving 2025 DII-AA TSWA Girls Cross Country All-State honors!

Kudos to Heidi Green ’27, who was named to the TSWA 2025 DII-AA AllState Volleyball team!

Father Ryan hosted the 59th Annual Johnny Drennan '85 Memorial Wrestling Invitational, presented by Hiller, on January 9 and 10. The tournament, which dates to 1968 and is one of the oldest in the state, now honors and preserves Johnny's memory as a champion both on and off the mats. In 2014, the event was renamed in his honor. The Irish Wrestling team placed 4th out of 57 teams with impressive individual results:

1st Place (113lbs) - Tanner Tran '26

2nd Place (126lbs) - Aidan Hare '27

2nd Place (106lbs) - Colten Calvin' 28

5th Place (285lbs) - De'Antowan Malone '26
