AS/NZ 4602.1.2011 // HIGH VISIBILITY SAFETY GARMENTS – GARMENTS FOR HIGH RISK APPLICATIONS There should be no less then 0.2m2 of unbroken hi visibility fabric on both the front and back of any garment that covers the upper torso. High visibility fabric must not be broken with non compliant fabric within the 0.2m2 area from the top of the shoulders to the waist, so no full side panels at armpit level are permitted. This standard also explains the position of the retroreflective tapes on the garment, the width and quantity used. These tapes should not detract from the 0.2m2 measurement required. Excessively large embroidery may jeopardise the classification of the high visibility safety garment. Embroidery on wet weather jackets may also impair the waterproofing properties of the garment. Please seek professional advice.

To most people, a safety garment is a safety garment. Orange or yellow, big or small, it’s all the same. Not all hi vis safety garments sold in the market today comply to the latest Australian and New Zealand safety regulation for highvisibility garments 4602.1.2011. Below are a few common examples of garments that would not pass the current 4062.1 2011 AU/NZ standard.

Heat Stress is the single biggest problem affecting our customers at work. Heat stress is not only uncomfortable but can result in serious injury or even death in extreme cases. Under the workplace health and safety act 2011 (AS) it is the legal obligation of employers to put plans in place to mitigate the heat stress risk. Syzmik’s Rugged Cooling range of works shirts and pants changes the way cool workwear is developed. When we started to look for a better solution to heat stress we first had to understand the way the body cools itself which is primarily through the evaporation of sweat. So to aid the body in cooling, we set out to create a fabric that would increase breathability to not only keep the wearer cooler but also allow the body’s sweat to evaporate and dry quicker.

UNIQUE SQUARE WEAVE FABRIC AND VENTING ALLOW INCREASED AIR FLOW TO COOL YOU DOWN WHILE THE RIP STOP CONSTRUCTION GIVES THE LIGHTWEIGHT FABRIC MORE TEAR STRENGTH.

The fabric we use is a 100% cotton, produced in a square weave construction that allows the maximum amount of air to pass through the fabric. Added features like extensive mesh venting and vented tape increases the breathability of our range even further. We then set out to make our fabric more durable and developed a ripstop construction in the fabric which uses thick reinforcing thread through out to make the fabric stronger while not limiting the breathability. The result of all this development is a range that is not only cooler and more comfortable but also actually stronger than traditional workwear.

FR clothing is needed to protect workers who may be exposed to the risk of fire or arc flash. If non FR clothing, such as cotton is worn when exposed to these risks it will increase the injuries suffered from the incident. FR clothing will not prevent all injuries in the case of a flash fire or arc flash incident but they will significantly reduce the injuries and give the wearer an ability to escape the incident. At Syzmik we understand that an FR garment has to be cool and comfortable enough to wear or workers will simply not wear it. To combat this we developed a fabric that provides outstanding moisture wicking characteristics in a light 250 gsm fabric that delivers high level HRC/PPE 2 – 10 Cal arc flash protection as well as ISO 14116:2008 and ISO 11612:2008 certified flame protection.

DESIGNED TO MINIMISE EXPOSURE

The range has been designed to achieve minimal skin exposure so all products feature gusset sleeves. GARMENTS CAN BE REMOVED QUICKLY

Garments have been designed to be quickly removed in case of emergency, with FR press studs on the shirts and an FR zipper on the overalls.

ONLY FR RATED COMPONENTS USED

All products use fully FR rated trims including reflective tape, snaps, buttons, zippers. Non FR rated closures can melt when exposed to flames, this makes the garment difficult to remove and puts the wearer at risk of greater injury.
