Come join us at Applefest, it’s a great place to meet; St. Anne’s community celebration, a real family treat.
It’s feeling like Applefest and all its fun; It starts with church, then food, games, and the kid’s obstacle run. The Apple of Our Eye, Granny’s Mercantile, too; You knew it was coming; it’s that don’t forget the raffle drawing, time of year. Granny’s Mercantile 9 am – 4 pm
at St. Anne’s School. And…because this year’s festival is all on one day, you can bid on your item(s), check back to see if your bid(s) are still ‘safe’, and when the auction ends, you can claim your item(s) and take them home with you.
My advice? Come early and check back often. You will find a great selection of homemade cookies, candies, bars, jams and jellies, other home canned foods and more all for sale at Granny’s Mercantile. There will be Applefest apple pies for sale here, too! Check out the painted pumpkins. There will be a fantastic selection of pumpkins with creative designs and themes all hand-painted by local artists and church members. And…there’s still more at Granny’s! The craft and gift section includes hand-crafted and unique items such as decorations, sewing, and more.
Did you know that apples are a member of the rose family? Yep, it’s true; but then so are pears, plums, cherries and peaches.
Wine Pull 9 am – 4 pm
The wine pull has been such a popular event that we had to bring it back again this year. When you make a $10 donation, you get to select (pull) a bottle
of wrapped wine from the wine board. Bottles of wine vary in value, so you could get a $20 bottle of wine for your $10 donation! You can pull the cork on your selected wine and share it with family and/or friends at Applefest or you can take it home at the end of the day, kick back, and relax with a glass of fine wine. What could be better? And, the choice is yours.
It takes 35 to 40 apples to make a gallon of apple cider.
Jewelry Stand 9 am – 4 pm
Don’t forget the jewelry stand! There will be new, gently used, and antique jewelry. You will find creative and one-of-a-kind jewelry designed, fashioned, and for sale. If you see something you like, we suggest you buy it. These items are not massproduced and yes, the prices are ‘right’! The jewelry stand will be in the gymnasium, close to Granny’s Mercantile.
Silent Auction 9 am – 2 pm
The Silent Auction has been a staple of Applefest. You really need to check it out. The auction fills both sides of the hallway
Over 20 years we’ve been doing this, and we want you know, we’d love to see you at Applefest enjoying the show. To learn more about Applefest, continue to read, there’s lots going on, we have all that you need.
You will find many unique and valuable merchandise on the auction. There is something for everyone and at a wide range of prices. Each year, the selection seems to get bigger and better, including games, wine baskets, hand-crafted new and refinished furniture, foods, and much, much more. Be sure to stop by periodically during the day to make sure your bid is secure, or to raise it as necessary. The auction closes at 2 pm sharp on Sunday and final bids are recorded. After the bidding closes, you will have just enough time to wander over to the gymnasium to find out if you are one of the lucky winners in the raffle drawing. Then, you can pick up and pay for your auction item(s) and make any other final purchases at Granny’s, the Jewelry Stand, Concession Stand or elsewhere before heading home.
Apples are 25% air – that’s why they float which makes it such fun to bob for apples.

The Mass will be held on the east side of St. Anne’s School on the concrete pad, weather permitting. The children/youth of St. Anne’s parish will provide the music for the Mass. Events following the Mass highlight fun and games for children as a feature of Applefest. In case of rain, the Mass will be held at the church. Please note: The Saturday 5:15 pm Mass and the 8:00 am Sunday Mass will still be held at the church. Following the 10:30 am Mass, please join us in acknowledging and honoring this year’s Apple of our Eye as the recipient is announced and presented with the trophy. This year marks the sixth year of this award. At the ceremony, selected speakers will talk about the recipient and share with us why this individual deserves the recognition. Last year’s Apple of our Eye recipients, Dave and Robyn Pfarr will be presented with an engraved crystal apple as lasting recognition of their honor. Previous Apples of our Eye include: Year 1 – Henry Kress; Year 2 – Fr. George Grafsky; Year 3 – Art and Barb Straub; Year 4 – Theresa Doherty; and Year 5 – Dave and Robyn Pfarr.

Hog Roast Dinner 11 am – 1:30 pm
This dinner gets bigger and better each year. Be sure to come hungry; the menu includes smoked pork, coleslaw, mashed potatoes, corn, a popover or cornbread with honey butter and apple crisp for dessert. As an added feature this year, takeouts and delivery are available. The number to call for in-town delivery is: 612-756-2750 Even better – advance tickets are being sold for the dinner. Why is that better? Well, in addition to the meal, for every adult ticket you purchase, your name will be entered in a drawing and you could win a half hog, complete with standard processing. There will be TWO winners drawn. You can buy tickets at St. Anne’s School Office, at the Parish Center, and at the SCRIP table after each weekend Mass. The dinner ticket price for 11 years old and over is $12.00 and for ages 10 and under the price is $5.00. The dinner will be served in the school cafeteria. We hope to see you there!
For a quick meal or snack, check out the concession stand located in the tent in the school parking lot. There you can purchase hot dogs, barbeque sandwiches, chips, pop and water; freshly popped corn, and more. These items are sold in even dollar amounts. You can leave your loose change at home or drop it in one of the donation boxes located on the Applefest grounds and we will use it to offset expenses. There are picnic tables scattered throughout the grounds. Sit at a table, visit with friends, listen to the music, people-watch, or watch the kids enjoying the many games, or enjoy a cold beer or glass a wine. Enjoy the day – you deserve it.
An apple has about 80 calories and has lots of fiber and the peel has antioxidants. That old saying, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”, may have some validity.
Beer Stand 11 am – 4 pm
Yes, you can enjoy a cold can of beer or a glass of wine and even watch the Vikings play the Raiders at 12 noon at the Beer Stand. There will be a big screen Smart TV set up for your viewing pleasure. During/After the game the TV will be raffled off, so stay for the game, get your raffle ticket(s) and you could be the lucky person to walk off the Applefest grounds with a new TV. And…if the Vikings also win, it can’t get much better than that! Beer and football – go VIKES!
Sprout Obstacle Challenge Registration 11:30 am – 11:40 am
Yes, you can register for the challenge at Applefest for $10.00 (same day registration), but an even better idea is to preregister for $5.00. All pre-registrations will receive a prize after completing the competition. Registration forms can be found on St. Anne’s website (stanneschurchlesueur.org) or on St. Anne’s Facebook page. The Challenge is for kids 12 years old and under.
You know those pretty crab apple trees that blossom in the spring? Well, that is one apple variety, but it is not good for humans to eat. It is also the only apple plant native to the United States.
Sprout Obstacle Challenge 11:45 am
So, you 12 and under boys and girls, are you ready for a fun, interactive obstacle run challenge? The competition includes a short run with various challenges such as tunnels, crawling, jumping, climbing, and more. It will be FUN!

Kids’ Games/Wagon Rides/Face Painting 12 noon – 2 pm
Raffle Drawing 3 pm
Ah, yes, the raffle drawing! Of course, you are encouraged to purchase tickets early and often (available at the Parish Center, Joan Stoffel, or one of our many ticket sellers) for $30 each.
Sometimes, we all act like kids; but unfortunately, as an adult we just feel like a kid at heart. Adults can still go on the wagon ride and have their face painted.
Cash prizes totaling $5,000 go to lucky winners, including 1 $2000, 1 - $1,000, 2 - $500, and 5 - $100. There are only 500 tickets sold, so the more tickets you purchase, the better your chance of winning!
Remember all the activities from last year? There are just as many this year and maybe even more. It is best to come, check out all the games and activities and enjoy as many of them for as long as time allows. Prizes are awarded for many of the games. All the games are set up in the south end of the parking lot and along the grassy area.
Apples will ripen anywhere from 6 to 10 times faster at room temperature than if they are refrigerated. When ripened, if you refrigerate them, they will last longer.
Caricatures by Lana Beck 11:30 am – 2 pm
Lana Beck’s caricatures are always very popular. You will want to be in line early for this fun activity. Lana will be located in the school parking lot near the kid’s games.
It takes 2 pounds of apples to make one pie.
BINGO 11:30 am – 2 pm
If tickets are still available, they will be sold at Applefest until we sell out or until the time of the drawing. You do not have to be present to win, but you can’t win if you don’t have a ticket. Applefest Kids’ Games
It takes 4 to 5 years for an apple tree to produce its first fruit.
Apples come in all shades of reds, greens, and yellows.
Lillenthal’s Wild Things Zoo Attraction 11:30 am – 2 pm
This is the third year Christian Lillenthal has been bringing his exotic zoo to St. Anne’s Applefest. Each year there are many different animals, birds, and other “creatures” to see and learn about. Animals may include turtles, kangaroos or wallabies, alligators, zebras, macaws, armadillos and more.
I know, people seem to associate Bingo with Catholics, but this activity consistently proves to be popular with a wide range of people, and why not? It is easy, fun, and you can win money. All Bingo cards are 50 cents each and payout is 50% of each game sales.
You not only get to see (and sometimes touch) the animals, but you can ask all kinds of questions about the animals and Christian will share interesting and educational facts about them. The Wild Things Zoo Attraction is very popular with children and adults and it is Free. Don’t miss it!
The Bingo tent will be set up in the school parking lot and there will be plenty of tables and chairs available. Bingo grows in popularity each year at Applefest.

The Mages and Bemmels families have played at Applefest and at St. Anne’s church services in the past so you are probably familiar with their country-style, easy listening music.
Applefest Zoo
Apples are often sold by the pound, but you also can buy them by the peck or the bushel. A peck of apples weighs 10.5 pounds and a bushel of apples weighs about 42 pounds.
The band is a blend of the talents of youth and maturity, appealing to a broad audience. They will be performing in the school parking lot, near the Concession and Beer stands.
In colonial time, apples were called winter bananas.
Music by Krissy Marie 2 pm – 4 pm
Krissy Marie plays a variety of music by request but is probably most recognized for country music. Krissy is originally from Arlington, MN and this is her third year at Applefest. She will be playing in the parking lot close to the Concession and Beer stands. That way you can enjoy food and drink and listen to great music, too.

In the United States, about 40% of our apple crop is used for making applesauce, cider, juice, and for baking things like cake and pies. The other 60% are mostly eaten raw. Are you eating your share?
