he arts are a cause for celebration in our community, and we have much to celebrate in 2019. The Paradise Center for the Arts is grateful for the ongoing support of so many businesses and individuals in our community that allow us to continue to offer a variety of arts programming for our community and region. Through MN State Arts Board and SEMAC grants, we were able to expand our programming in 2018 and will be continuing to expand programming in 2019. We are adding more family-friendly programs, as well as working to make our space more accessible. In 2018 we finished some important renovations, including repairing and installing a new HVAC system and remodeling the basement. These updates will continue to enhance the experience of our guests and patrons, and also make our space more usable for community groups. We are so thankful to the Schmidt Family Foundation, the MN State Arts Board, and the generosity of local community members who are helping to make these updates possible. As we look to 2019, I am struck by a quote from novelist Sarah Dessen: “Music is the great uniter. An incredible force. Something people who differ on everything and anything else can have in common.” I think we could easily insert “Art” as the opening to that quote. Art is the great uniter...art has the power to bring people together, whether it is taking a pottery class that morphs into a weekly pottery group, attending a live children’s theatre performance and cheering those young actors on, listening to music at work and realizing everyone in the office is singing along, going to book club with friends, or sitting in a movie theatre laughing with strangers, art is a part of our daily lives. Art connects us to each other. It helps us see and experience our world and community differently, and it celebrates the creative in all of us. The Paradise Center for the Arts 2019 line-up is overflowing with opportunities to connect, experience and create. It is overflowing with opportunities to unite us! From local favorites to Grammywinning musicians, from student artists to Broadway-style musicals, the Paradise continues to strive to engage our community through the arts. To paraphrase the great Stevie Wonder: Art gives us memories. The longer art exists in our lives, the more memories we get to make. Our 2019 Season is full of memory-making opportunities. First Avenue named Annie Mack as one of the Best New Bands in 2018. Annie Mack has built a reputation for writing meaningful, relate-able and inspirational songs. Live, she delivers her songs with power, soul and conviction. The High 48s return to the Paradise after impressing our audience in 2018! They make music that combines the soulful sound of classic bluegrass with a modern attitude and a wide range of music influences. This band of songwriters perform their own material in addition to the festival favorites. Thanks to a SEMAC grant, the Paradise Center for the Arts is excited to offer a 2019 Marquee Children’s Theatre Program! Three different children’s theatre camps will be offered for three different age groups. Each camp ends with a community-theatre style production for the public. Camps and performances will provide high quality arts experiences for children and youth through the process of learning acting skills, actor and audience etiquette, and most importantly, having FUN!

Acting Fun for Little Ones (ages 4 - 7)

(must be potty trained) Tuition $75, scholarships are available. Acting Fun for Little Ones - Jan. 26, Feb. 2, 9, 16, 23, March 2, 9 AM - 10:30 AM classes with a final performance on March 2 at 11 AM. Acting Fun for Little Ones is an introduction to acting, theater and using your imagination. Over the course of the class, kids will participate in a variety of acting games, art activities, rehearsal, and a performance for the public. Family and Friends are encouraged to join us for the performance!
