DECA members “DECA, the business club at the high school, has had a great year! DECA had 45 members this year. Students participated in multiple community service projects such as tornado cleanup and raising money for families affected by California fires. We also started an online Raider gear school store, which is run by students and helps them get experience in management. DECA
also sent more than half of our district competitors to the state competition, and 10 of the 25 students from Northfield advanced to finals (top 12) in their events! Feel free to check out the school store by using the “payments” link on the High School website as well as following our student run Instagram @ Northfield_deca for updates!” Allison Goodell
Math Team participants Math Team is a lot of fun. Students compete for themselves as well as for the team score. We compete in the Canterbury Division against Delano, Shakopee, Farmington, Holy Family, International School of MN/Eagle Ridge, and Lakevilles North and South. There are five meets from November to February. Each meet has 4 individual events and a team event. Topics range from algebra I to pre-
Knowledge Bowl members
calculus, with some challenge problems thrown in. We can have an unlimited number of students compete individually, and up to 8 compete in the team event. A full team must include at least two freshmen and/or sophomores, so younger team members are always included. Junior Aydn Math was the top scorer on the team this year. We welcome anyone who is interested to join next fall!

The Jazz bands give music students an opportunity to learn and perform different styles of music than what they would usually play in Concert Band. Jazz music has a greater emphasis on improvisation, and this provides a excellent challenge to
these young musicians. Jazz Two performed in two wonderful concerts and provided some of the music for the annual swing dance held at the Northfield Ballroom. Jazz One also performed two full concerts and played in the annual swing dance. Both Jazz One and Jazz Two attended a Jazz Festival at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where Jazz One earned third-place honors in their class. As always, our seniors provided much leadership. Sam Dwyer wrote an original composition for us this year that was truly fantastic!

Northfield High School mock trial The Northfield High School Mock Trial Program is an exciting, law-related education program that introduces students to the American legal system and provides a challenging opportunity for personal growth and achievement. Students exercise their critical thinking and team-
work skills, as well as the basic skills learned in the classroom. The Northfield team is committed to creating an inclusive environment in which every person can participate in the program. Northfield is one of the best teams in the state each year, and this year was no exception for
the award-winning program. The team was one point and some terrible weather conditions away from punching its ticket for a return trip to the state tournament. At Northfield, we have two teams who compete at the highest competitive level in the state of Minnesota. The captains
this year were Senior Keara Cooney and Isabel Aylin along with Junior Maxwell Gorden-Mercer. Graduating seniors Alec La Voi, Andre Simonet and Liv Sorenson will also be sorely missed as we regroup and reconfigure for next year. Notable returners for next year’s squad and
Symphonic Band
joining Gorden-Mercer as a captain are Junior Chloe and Sophomore Corina Occhiato. Charles Davis also looks to be a big contributor as he moves into his third year of competition. The future is bright for the program, which is advised by Spanish teacher and legally trained Stephen
Cade along with former Rice County attorney, Dakota County Assistant County Attorney G. Paul Beaumaster and Christopher Sorenson, a partner at the great patent and trademark global firm of Merchant and Gould. - Stephen Cade

The Northfield Robotics team, The RoboRaiders, finished out a great season this year. Our season started Jan. 5 this year, and we had six weeks to finish our robot based on the given rules. The theme of the season this year was space, and our robots had to fill “rockets” with cargo so they could “take launch”. On Feb. 19, we put our robot into a bag and waited until March 6th, when we would unbag our robot in Duluth to compete against teams all over the state. We finished our competition with a record of 8-5 and ranked 26 out of 60 present teams. Our team made history this year by advancing all the
way to the semifinals of our competition, a first in our eight years of competing. The Robotics team is dedicated to teaching STEM skills to high school students. By participating in FIRST robotics competitions, we enable everyone on the team to work together for a collective goal. Due to the time constraints, we have to work on our robot and learn to brainstorm creative solutions that we can accomplish in a short period of time. There are around 30 kids on the Robotics team. We usually meet weekly, but during our build season, we have meetings almost every day. Jason Woitalla
