Q: I was interested when Eugene Levy and Dan Levy were announced as the hosts of the latest Primetime Emmy Awards. Had a father and son ever done that together before? – Linda Cain, Amherst, N.Y. A: No, that was a first, and those behind the ceremony — including ABC, which televised it — were quite happy to trumpet that fact. It wasn’t merely a stunt, either, since both men are Primetime Emmy winners (Eugene for both “Schitt’s Creek” and the classic “SCTV” franchise, and Dan for “Schitt’s Creek”). Of course, the Emmy organizers were banking on co-hosting rapport between the two Levys that you simply can’t buy, given their personal familiarity with each other as well as their professional connection. It was the first time since 2018 — when “Saturday Night Live’s’ Michael Che and Colin Jost presided over the event on NBC — that the Emmys had dual hosts, which in its own way suggests that a “right” combination is desired in having more than one celebrity Eugene and Dan Levy guide the show.
