Virtual Field Trip Helping the Earth

Let’s Take A

FIELD TRIP

On today’s virtual field trip, we thought we’d look at some of the places where we’ve helped make changes that help the Earth.

Our first stop -

Somers, Connecticut At this greenhouse, we’ve helped them expand their water reuse capabilities. Recycled water was previously used for less-sensitive species such as poinsettias, but we’ve helped them implement ebb and flow irrigation systems over 14 acres of their facility!

One recent change was the addition of activated carbon to treat the recycled water. This has enabled nearly year-round water reuse on almost all of the plants in the greenhouse, as well as for capturing key nutrients for growth. This is good for the Earth and for the plants (and plants are good for the Earth)!

Let’s head up to

Amherst, Massachusetts where we’re helping the University of Massachusetts develop a solar canopy for their Visitors Center. Solar power is a clean source of energy because it does not release any greenhouse gasses.

The sun is an unlimited power source and helps us reduce our reliance on non-renewable energy sources.

If we virtually head over to

Providence, Rhode Island we’re helping the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) convert their buses to electric vehicles. These buses will replace aging diesel buses that need to be retired.

When added to RIPTA’s existing hybrid diesel electric buses (which combine diesel with battery power), this investment will give RIPTA a fleet that consists of approximately 36% lowand zero-emission vehicles.

We hope you had fun on our Virtual Field Trip
