R O I N E S S G N I S MU Since it’s the new year, it’s time for The Senior Muser to make his 2026 New Year’s Resolutions! My 1st resolution is not to complain about things so much this year. I get so tired of people complaining about everything from the economy to the government but are unwilling to do anything about it and the... wait, looks like I just broke that resolution. OK, so let’s try a 2nd resolution. My next resolution is to be less judgemental of people. Everybody has their own reasons for what they do and I need to understand that not everything is what it seems. Just because my cable company can’t seem to figure out why the picture on the TV goes into freeze frame, doesn’t mean that the techs are incompetent.
See? I’m already being less judgemental. Well, maybe not, but give me some time, this is all new to me. My next resolution is to go to the dentist more. Of course, with the prices they charge, George Washington’s wooden teeth sound like a good idea. Of course, then my dentist wouldn’t be able to take a two week vacay in St. Bart’s off my pain and suffering... Wait! I just broke both resolution one and two and let’s face it, I’ll continue to go
to the dentist only when I’m in great pain, so there goes the 3rd resolution. Well, I guess the best resolution to make is to not make any resolutions at all. At least I won’t break that one. So, Happy New Year! ‘til next month, then The Senior Muser

New Year’s thoughts from the Weekend Warrior... It’s now 2026 so time for some reflection on the importance of my weekend warrior extracurricular activities, and how they play havoc with my life. A quick perusal of my health insurance claims page tells me I am getting my money’s worth for my over priced medical insurance premiums. So maybe it’s time to make some Weekend Warrior 2026 New Year Resolutions.

His large fees for telling me not to fall on my head was money well spend. So my first New Year’s resolution is to not fall on my head! I had a bit of a negative impact on my general practitioner’s earnings because she was replaced in 2025. We had philosophical differences in a vast array of medical disciplines. She wanted me to stay out of the water and not surf for three weeks due to a minor muscle tear in my forearm. I felt two days and a prednisone pack would be adequate. She disagreed, imagine her arrogance! Just because she went to medical school, she assumed she knew more about rehabbing an injury than I did! She also wanted
general practitioner who agrees with me and maybe has a financial interest in a steak house or an ice cream parlor. On the home front, my softball escapades have rendered my wife’s honey-do list dormant. She does not seem to agree that legging out a three bagger with bad knees is worth spending the next week on the couch watching reruns of Dexter with ice
packs on my knees. Her statement that the gate will not fix itself seems rather insensitive. Try telling that to my teammates... yeesh! So, my third New Year’s resolution is to hit more home runs! I must concede one point. I cannot justify buying a new nine iron every time I miss the green and toss the club into the water hazard. So my fourth New Year’s resolution is to not toss my nine iron into a water hazard. That should be doable as long as I don’t miss the green on an easy approach shot. So how do I keep the resolution if I miss the green? I can always wrap that nine iron around a tree trunk. Now, I have been accused of lacking, what’s the word... I think it begins with an M... oh yeah, MODERATION. I have been accused of lacking moderation when it comes to sports. Just because I go surfing for eight hours or play 36 holes of golf in a single day. My wife calls it magnificent obsession. I kinda like that. It sounds, well, magnificent. Though she is not smiling when she says it. See broken gate, ice packs and Dexter. So, my fifth New Year’s resolution is to practice moderation. Naa, that’s not ever gonna happen... Happy New Year from The Weekend Warrior!

The Epilepsy Services Foundation: Building Community, Support, and Hope Epilepsy affects not only individuals living with seizures, but also families, caregivers and entire communities. The Epilepsy Services Foundation is committed to ensuring that no one impacted by epilepsy walks this journey alone. Through education, support, advocacy and direct assistance, the Foundation serves children, teens, young adults, families and caregivers in west central Florida.
The Epilepsy Services Foundation provides critical education on epilepsy and seizure response through its Seizure First Aid Training, offered at no cost to schools, community organizations, and other groups. This training is essential for promoting safety, awareness and preparedness, ensuring that staff, educators and community members can
A cornerstone of the Foundation’s work is its support groups, which create safe and welcoming spaces for connection and shared understanding. The Parent and Caregiver Support Group meets virtually twice per month, offering families the opportunity to learn, share experiences, and hear from guest speakers who provide valuable resources and guidance. The Young Adult Support Group meets monthly, often through community outings, helping young adults (ages 18-30) build friendships, confidence, and independence while navigating life with epilepsy. The Foundation also looks ahead to developing Near Peer and Sibling Support Groups for middle and high schoolers to further strengthen its network of care. Education and opportunity are also key priorities. Each year, the Foundation awards college scholarships to individuals living with epilepsy and families affected by the condition.

Through the Joseph McElroy Awareness Scholarship, the Epilepsy Services Foundation honors Joseph’s legacy by giving children with epilepsy the chance to simply be kids at camp. Raising awareness remains essential. Each year, the Epilepsy Services Fo u n d a t i o n h o s t s community walks to educate the public and reduce stigma. The Pinellas County Walk for Epilepsy will take place on March 28, 2026 at Seminole Lake Park, and the Hillsborough County Walk for Epilepsy will take place on May 16, 2026 at Al Lopez Park. Together, these programs, services, and annual walks reflect a shared mission: to empower, support and uplift every person touched by epilepsy, while building a more informed and compassionate community.
